Extremely Healthy Bucs

September 10th, 2019

Recovering

Outside of the two Buccaneers with major injuries, the entire roster practiced yesterday, though there were newcomers to the injury report.

Of course, Justin Evans, who landed on injured reserve late in the afternoon, didn’t practice. Blaine Gabbert’s bad shoulder is still healing, as well. But everyone else was full-go.

O.J. Howard made his season debut on the injury report, and it wasn’t for KY hands or bruised pride. He’s got an ankle issue but was a full participant in practice. That bears monitoring considering he was lost for the season with a bad ankle injury last year, and he focused this offseason on strengthening his ankles.

Ronald Jones has a “toe.” Returner Bobo Wilson also has an ankle while defensive tackle Rakeem Nuñez-Roches has a “finger” and savior linebacker Devin White is still battling his illness. Again, they all practiced yesterday.

That’s a darn healthy roster for any NFL team.

Good! We need all the help we can get on this short week.

  2. Nick Says:

@Joe, not sure about OJ, sure glad we didn’t get rid of Brate.

  3. buc15 Says:

OJ with an ankle problem already….oh boy

  4. Pittsshore Says:

OJ is way to soft to be a Bama player. Suck it up butter cup.

  5. zzbuc Says:

If Jameis doesn´t get better who cares if the roster is healthy…….Saw the game twice yesterday…..Is all on JW despite some OJ mistakes……

  6. Buc4life24 Says:

Am I the o my one who was very unimpressed with White and thought he looked lost?

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

White was fine…expectations set too high….Josh Allen had 1 solo tackle and zero sacks….he is already a bust by Bucs standards

  8. Buccernutter Says:

All on JW? Unimpressed with White?

    Dumbest fan base in sports.

  9. Defense Rules Says:

Buc4life24 … So you were ‘unimpressed’ and he ‘looked lost’? Ever have the flu? Were you able to go at 100% when you did? Did you see today’s injury report that he’s STILL battling his illness? Did you notice that he had 6 tackles on Sunday & played all of the defensive snaps, calling all the defensive plays & adjustments? Do you know what defensive formations were called & what Devin’s responsibilities were in each play? Somehow I don’t think so.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe has set “savior “ as the expectation for White…but America’s QB…has never been that.
I have been a big supporter but I’m losing confidence in him.

  11. Doctor Berto Says:

Devin White looked terrible. Hopefully it was just him out of gas due to his illness but he looked awfully slow.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The issue is that fans want and expect instant gratification. In their minds rookies should produce right away, as should all free agents.

They do not take into account player development, team chemistry, illnesses, or new system familiarity.

Most of the time, it takes a few games to work the bugs out.

Lavante David was running the defense this week, not White. White was mostly dropping back to defend the pass or protect the second level. He was actually in on a lot of plays. When he’s healthy, he’ll get to blitz and go after the QB. That’s when he will start to shine.

Jameis did indeed have a bad game. No point in denying that. However, it also gave Arians a list of things to focus on this week. Again, fans expect instant results, but fixing Jameis cannot instantly happen. Haters will have their ammo, but the end result is what matters.

And the irony…many of the fans here freaking out on OJ are the same people who wrongly wanted to trade Brate.

  13. Adrnagy Says:

Saw the the game twice. Not all on Jameis. What about dare ? Missing the block on the punt ??
Yes Jameis played good with out receivers and Peyton. Yes Jameis choke and made game ending plays. But where is bryon to facilitate some throws or make adjustments on favorable matchup? None.

Why not send the RB to the flat like most offenses. Why not throw some easy screens early on the game. I think that game is a turnaround for the franchise.
We might have talent but no brains.

Plug watford at RG and Hawkins at RT and none at RB to start.

  14. BucDan Says:

The only issue that I currently have with Devin White is that he needs to learn how to work through or avoid blocks. This can be seen in his college tape as well (Alabama game).

Even more blatant in the NFL, given the increased quality of athletes vs what he saw week in and week out at LSU.

I wouldn’t say he looked “lost”, but to me he was slightly hesitant. Hopefully that case of “Hey, I’m now in the NFL” jitters works its way out of his system come Thursday, because McCaffery is all about putting on clinics for LBs.

  15. Jean Lafitte Says:

RoJo with a “toe” …not good in Buc land

  16. Jean Lafitte Says:

The defense did well but we want to crucify a rookie LB? LVD made a lot of plays while DW was a little under the weather. DW didn’t cost us the game.

  17. Buchead407 Says:

Devin white was horrible on Sunday. Lvd making plays in this defense though

  18. 813bucboi Says:

    DR

i understand he had the flu but thats not an excuse…..if he’s out there on the field then he should play like the #5 pick that he is…..

i saw him late on some reads, take bad angles, have a tough tie disengaging from blocks and arm tackling…..flu wouldnt make you do that….

still a lot of time for him to bounce back but i didnt see a #5 pick on defense sunday….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  19. doctor_berto Says:

Bonzai, plenty of linebackers produce from week 1. When you draft someone 5th overall then that player should be performing, no excuses.

  20. teacherman777 Says:

Devin White should not have played.

He looked so slow and scared.

    Buccanon should have started.

  21. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey 813bucboi, You Didn’t see the #5 pick, how about the #1 pick did he show up in your vision? How about his #1 pick, his #2 pick, his #3 pick, or the other two potential pick that were dropped? Fifth season for the #1 pick. First season for the #5 pick. Is there a difference?

With the flu and still playing hats off to both White and Evans.
    Go! Bucs!!

  22. TampaTown Says:

    Teacherman77:
Devin White made a few tackles right in front of me (I’m a long time season ticket holder) and he has really good speed and form. Wraps up very well. I can’t even imagine having the flu and playing in that heat. Probably only possible because they’re so young and in great shape.

  23. TampaTown Says:

That is a great injury report after week 1. I’m guessing the players will get a couple extra days off this week to heal up after Thursday. OJ’s ankle seems like a red flag though.

  24. Snook Says:

OJ Howard is the new Gerald McCoy.

  25. doctor_berto Says:

Tampatown, what speed are you talking of? you sure you weren’t watching LVD? White looked like slowest player on the field.

  26. Buccfan37 Says:

This team has Licht written all over it, thus the results.

  27. Bucamania Says:

It better be the flu but what we saw on Sunday sure looked like Devin’s uneventful pre-season snaps.

  28. rrsrq Says:

Devin needs a real LB number, that’s the issue, get rid of that freakin’ #45 and get an LB number like #55, oops, that’s taken, maybe #56 or #52, that’s why he looks slow. He looked out of position. He better not be out of position Thursday night or Christian will throw up another 200+ game.
Did he and Kwon exchange jerseys?
Does Kwon want a Buc jersey?

  29. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

Most bucs fans r just WOW probably cant even coach peewee football but know everything there is to know about coaching n playing in the NFL SMMFH 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️
Whites a bust after one game n howard is the new GMC after one bad game REALLY PLZ JUST STFU cuz ur talking outa ur azzes

  30. 813bucboi Says:

    rusty

i was disappointing in both white and JW….

did you see the 1st, 2nd and 3rd missed tackle by our #5pick?….

im not giving JW or white an excuse…..screw the flu….LVD and VV had sore knees did their play disappoint?…..

they’re professional athletes…they dont get a pat on the back for participating….

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  31. Jeff Says:

Feels like OJ is a bust.

  32. Buc4life24 Says:

Defense rules, I think the others responded to your comment appropriately, so no need to pile on. I’m in his corner, just hasn’t been impressive in the preseason or week 1. Time will tell…
