“Duped”

Not impressed.

Joe cautioned readers this would happen. And here we are.

When you play a team from Gotham, no matter its record, it is a big game because you are under the klieglights of the most powerful media city in the western world. And Joe cautioned readers that scorn and ridicule were to follow from coast-to-coast as a result of the Bucs puking on themselves in the second half and getting punked by a rookie quarterback making his NFL debut.

Unlike locals who are conditioned to watching the Bucs find new ways to lose games just about every week for over 11 seasons, this phenomenon is not exactly the norm for people across the county. But when the Bucs are the same ol’ Bucs playing a team from the largest city on the continent, otherwise innocent Americans are scarred to learn just how bad Bucs fans have it.

On his podcast “GM Shuffle,” former coffee-fetcher for Bill Walsh, Al Davis and Bill Belicheat and the former shot-caller of the Cleveland Browns, Michael Lombardi, as well as co-host Adam Virk, mocked the Bucs for being a low-rung outfit.

Michael Lombardi: Oh, they got duped during the week and they got duped — you have a 28-10 lead at halftime against a rookie quarterback and you lose that game? Seriously? You lose that game? Let me lay that out to you: You have a 28-10 halftime lead. At home. In heat and humidity. Against a winless team with a rookie quarterback and you lose?

Adam Virk: Tampa Bay, baby. Tampa Bay.

Lombardi: Tampa Bay, and that’s the recipe. Tampa Bay to me looks disorganized. They are hit or miss. They either make a big play or they don’t make any plays.

What Lombardi failed to mention when he layed it out was that the Giants also did not have the services of arguably the best running back in the NFL in the second half, Saquon Barkley. Yet Sterling Shepard looked like Antonio Brown with his head screwed on correctly the way he tore through the “totally fixed” Bucs secondary.

(If a shade tree mechanic “fixed” your car’s transmission that badly, you’d run to small claims court.)

Facing the Rams on Sunday, the best drama the Bucs will likely come up with is whose turn it will be to get lit up and help the Bucs lose. It is to the point that’s the reason to watch the Bucs: Find out whose number is called to screw up on a given week.

Honestly, no one cares anymore. Losing is Tampa and Tampa is losing. The apathy is really bad. You can feel it.

That happens when they don’t watch the games, don’t watch C Newton limping up to the line and missing all those throws, and just read the stat lines and make a prediction for next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!

Jerry Springer guests have more respect than the bucs organization. i’ll give the glazers credit they still show their faces in public knowing damn well they have ZERO intentions of fielding a respectable product. At least they are not doing the sucking in the shadows they are throwing up on themselves in plain sight. you have to try really hard to be this bad for so long.

  6. FanO’Bucs Says:

Agreed, it was a crap show.

Difficult spot for coaches: Much of the Fanbase is poised and ready to pile on Jameis if he makes any mistakes and I think that leads to a conservative and prudent approach by the coaches, looking out for the player.

  7. SullyMcgee Says:

Bucs cannot win in those awful CFL uniforms. Get that fixed.

  8. Tye Says:

If the Bucs played that poorly in their 1st 3 games, I shudder to see the result to come when they play these playoff caliber teams… Oh the horror!

The Times had a front page piece on the attendance woes of the Rays…and they are on an exciting playoff race!

They listed just over 8,000 last night and the Times reporter took shots and posted them which show that was perhaps a paid number but not a number in attendance.

The Bucs are lucky that football is King in Florida and baseball…not so much. The Lightning are lucky that they have perhaps the best owner in all of professional sports. Imagine though if someone 20 years ago had told you that a hockey team will draw three times as many fans as an MLB team in the midst of an incredibly exciting season.

    that’s pretty damn funny

  20. Negative Nancy Says:

    Fire the Glazers!

    You do that by:
    – not buying tickets
    – not buying merchandise
    – not supporting businesses that advertise on Bucs games

Harsh but gotta do it, it’s that bad.

Hit them in the pocketbook and the idiot trust fund babies will finally get the message and sell the team to someone competent.

offensively we are stuck with Leftfoot trying to learn how to call plays. He has ketchup and mustard all covered on his Steak and shake menue play sheet and he calls 7 straight run plays to the left gut

Gary Coleman was a unpaid QB intern 2 years ago and this is what we have

To put in perspective about attendance (Joe SWEARS the Tampa Bay area is more concerned about how many arses sit in seats at stadiums than wins — and a large percentage of those same fans won’t go to games themselves) of the gross revenue pie the NFL pulls in, only 16 percent is from the gate.

So equating attendance with the financial health of an NFL team is sssooo 1970s thinking.

  25. Pewter power Says:

People focusing too much on winston. The players are still figuring it out on offense and the rookies on defense as well but VH3 and carlton Davis are not rookies, they are horrible corners. I watched the seattle and saints games and both of those quarterbacks had Winston moments. Picks and almost picks, if you think winston is the only one who has bad throws go get NFL game pass. The starting corners will be the reason this defense gives up the booty again this week and the rest of the season. You can win with an average quarterback but not these corners

  26. Joe Says:

    Ask me if I care?

You don’t have to ask. You already demonstrated you do. 🙂

  34. JimmyJack Says:

This team needs to come out angry and ticked off on Sunday.

I am so sick and tired of hearing that about every other team we play coming off a loss. Heard it plenty before we played the Panthers…….”Oh they are pissed off, they just lost, they need this game”……..Yeah well when the heck is our turn? Why can’t our team get pissed? Why can’t we need a win? When’s it our freaking turn?

    How bout right friggen now!!!

  35. Bradinator Says:

Might be a Redzone watching Sunday as opposed to having to go to a bar that has Sunday Ticket here in Denver. My only consolation is Shaq Barrett lighting it up after the Broncos let him go to FA. My co-workers here in Denver are having sad times as well, so I don’t have to take as much stuff from them as I usually do. Both Sad and Pathetic. Every year I stupidly walk into the trap. If nothing else the Bucs are consistent.

  36. 813bucboi Says:

i want to see the same attitude when we win sunday….lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  37. Allbuccedup Says:

Not to worry BA says its easier to flip teams now than it used to be.HAHAHAHA

  38. JimmyJack Says:

TonyC Ryan Smith is still suspended this Sunday for the Rams game. After that he will have to get placed on the active roster. Right now he isn’t on roster so they will have to remove somebody from the roster.

Kind of a wait and see situation but most expect him to be put on roster and playing in New Orleans.

Oh, I didn’t know. I remember meeting him at a promotional event at Maas Brother’s, back in the day. He played pretty well here, even with a severely arthritic knee. RIP player.

  41. Bucsace Says:

New coach, new coaching staff…..and yet nothing seems to have changed. Arians did not need a game like that, not just the loss itself but the overall feeling of a malaise in this franchise. Hard to admit, but these guys are right

  42. timbucs2 Says:

I’m done man. I mean, I will love the Bucs my whole life, but I am done caring. Until they prove they can be consistently competitive, I am checking out, because every year it is more of the same. Big hype and same result.

There was a moment in time that this franchise stopped being competitive. It was December 8th, 2008 at the end of the 3rd quarter vs the Panthers. Since that moment in time, minus 2 aberrant overachieving seasons, we have been a joke.

They will need to prove to me that they can not be garbage before I will care again.

  43. Dom>Licht Says:

There is a baseball team in Florida?

  44. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @JOE

Excellent point! NFL teams earn no matter what they draw.

MLB shares but not nearly as generously.

I think the reason Tampa fans are so obsessed with attendance is all the threats over the years. We have frequently been called horrible fans and been told we’re losing our teams or that we’re going to share them with Montreal. Sternberg is an idiot!!!

He wants his team in his hometown of Brooklyn which financially makes perfect sense. The Giants and Yankees will never sign off though. Let him go to Vegas or Hartford or Charlotte and see how he draws there.

  45. SteelStudBuc Says:

Snivelling bunch of fools here… is there anything left to cry about?
They win one game and y’all jump for joy… they lose one (bad loss, I get it), and y’all are in need of suicide hotline…. there’s lots to do in life besides this website… trust me…lots to do.

  46. SenileSenior Says:

It has taken me a couple of years to get what is going on with most of the Negative Nancys, the pretended fans, who make so much noise at this site. I guess I am just an old slug!  >;)

It is obvious that many of you did not stop and think about what @Joe said in this article.  You did not take even one minute to think about it.  You just reacted and regurgitated the same old harangue that you give, with slight variations, to almost every article no matter what point(s) are made.  Either that or you just introduce it even when there is no resemblance to what the subject was.

You don’t know football.  You don’t really watch the games.  You have the video game and/or fantasy football mindset.  Neither of those things are about watching football and being a football fan.  Football really is a more like a chess match than checkers.  Some of the basic moves are the same but the execution is much more complicated.  It is played by real human beings who also happen to be great athletes, one and all.

Many of you do the same thing regarding what Coach Arians says.  You hear some of his words but you don’t really LISTEN.  You go off  half-cocked and then rant and rave here at JoeBucsFan.

You have no clue if a player is progressing and getting better as the season goes on.  You are unable to tell if this teams is really any better (or any worse as the case may be) than any of those fielded in the last, say, five years.  You don’t see much beyond splash plays or wins and losses.

Now I will get off of my soap box and just say to you … “Chuck you Farley!  You know who you are!”

If the Bucs should play up to the challenge, bloody the Rams’ collective nose and bring home the surprise win then Tampa Bay “fandom” will be super high again.

If the Bucs play extra hard but still fall short again most of you won’t see the difference.  Hard core fans will notch their expectations for this season up a bit.

But if the Rams trounce the Bucs handily the national pundits will see the sos  from afar and the pseudo fans will say “I told you so!” and go back to wallowing in self pity.

I am betting on the first two options because I see a difference in their game this year.

    Go Bucs!!! Win now!

  47. FortMyersDave Says:

Joe makes good points here. Going back to day one in 1976 it seems like it is not if the Bucs are going to lose but how! It reminds me of the good old Championship wresting from Florida I used to watch on WTOG as a kid in the 70s and early 80s because the losses almost seem scripted as well as predictable. Perhaps the Bucs should summon Gordon Solie from the grave and get him and our guy Dusthy Rhodthes to call the games on the radio network. Might as well bring back Dr Paul Bearer to have some voodoo priestess remove the curse on the Bucs kickers while we are at it. Its ****ing frustrating to watch this team lose 10 plus times a bleeping season!

  48. FortMyersDave Says:

DomLicht. Yeah the Rays are actually an exciting team. Its a shame that they draw 15K a game in the Trop. I always wondered what their attendance would be if the club played somewhere in Hillsborough like by the casino or Fairgrounds or Al Lopez….. There was a team down in Miami too but a guy named Jeter sold their best player to his Yankees for a Ss named Starling and then traded off the rest of their players for next to nothing. I hear they are competitive in the new “100 loss AAAA tank league” with the Orioles, winners gets #1 in the draft……
