Arians Credits OC For Bucs Job

September 3rd, 2019

“Aw, thanks Coach!”

In the past, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians has been clear a huge reason he accepted the Tampa Bay job is he trusts Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Arians has also credited Team Glazer for his decision to lead Tampa Bay, saying how much he respects them and how much they value what Arians prioritizes.

But Tuesday night while appearing on “Late Hits” with co-hosts Alex Marvez and Bill Polian, heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Arians said if not for one of his assistants, he likely would not be coaching the Bucs.

And that would be his offensive coordinator, Byron Leftwich.

Arians was asked about not calling plays, the first time he has ever done that as a head coach. Arians explained not having that responsibility allows him to do other things on the sidelines when he dropped the following bombshell.

“I can honestly say I would probably not be the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if Byron Leftwich was not available,” Arians said.

Whoa!

Joe cannot ever recall a head coach publicly saying he would have turned down a job if he didn’t have a specific assistant.

The only thing Joe can add to this is that Arians must really think Leftwich is special.

As for what delegating playcalling duties allows him to do, Arians said, “Hopefully I will be a better game-manager. When you are calling the plays, you never turn your back to talk to the defense or talk to the special teams. You are always hitting buttons talking to the coaches. It has given me the freedom to look ahead as a head coach.”

That last quote is music to my ears. Finally, a real coach, not a glorified coordinator.

  2. Lamarcus Says:

Yes. Love it. We all seen it didn’t work for Raheem, Schiano,Koetter, Lovie, Gruden once, and league wide. Love that BA could just coach the team and all phases.

    A real coach

  3. tmaxcon Says:

Every week BS has a new reason why he is coaching the laughingstock of the nfl. Just last week when dumbarse glazers gave licht his extension the old man was saying licht was the only reason he was coaching the worst franchise in history…. make up your mind old man….. all this fluff will be meaningless when BA plays the BS health card (again) and bails on bucs

  4. adambomb418 Says:

and what happens if he bolts for another job?

  5. Lamarcus Says:

And refreshing not a glorified coordinator like Richard or Koetter. I hear this number 1 talk and makes me sick to my stomach. Koetter teams were good at catching up because they were used to trailing every other game. So yea you will have a top offense naturally. And then when one side of ball played good the other side didn’t Every game!! So Arians decision to coach the entire team is very good and pumping me even more for the season days away.

  6. Tye Says:

translation: I retired because I was tired of all the obligations and pressure of running a team… I am only head coach of the Buccaneers because I can delegate all that pressure and obligation on Leftwich so I can walk the sidelines talking to everyone while getting paid as a HC….

The ole bait and switch con…

  7. tmaxcon Says:

    Tye

The real translation is: I am only bucs head coach because glazers offer a fantastic guranteed retirement package with no pressure or expectations to be successful.

  8. Defense Rules Says:

I try to be very open-minded when it comes to BA’s statements to the press, but I’m having a real hard time buying into this one. Byron was never BA’s OC in Arizona or elsewhere, so why would he even make a statement like this … except to pump up Leftwich. I could see BA not taking the Bucs’ job if Todd Bowles said ‘Thanks, but no thanks’. But Byron? Nah, that’s a lot less likely.

At the same time however, I’m very much against dual-hatting coaches. For BA to be able to focus on the BIG PICTURE is a very good thing.

  9. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

    T & T:
Licht was only given a 10 year deal ( so far ) to turn things around. Those are rigorous standards.

  10. Howard Cosell Says:

The real translation is: I am only bucs head coach because glazers offer a fantastic guranteed retirement package with no pressure or expectations to be successful.

Lol I think you nailed it.
The good news is that BA truly is trying his hardest and he’s a definite upgrade form the coordinators who’ve been masquerading as Buc HC’s

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It is easy for BA to say that because Leftwich WAS available……it’s not like BA had to go out and pry him away from another job….

BA has nothing at all to lose by making the comment…..he builds Leftwich up and that helps him gain respect from the entire offense…..

    BA is a bull$hitter……but a very, very good bull$hitter.

  12. Howard Cosell Says:

How could you not respect a guy who immediately saw right trough McCoys act?

  13. BucsFan727 Says:

Tmax is not a Bucs fan. Yet he dosent have the balls to tell us who his team is. You see us on the rise. Ant no F n troll going to tell me how it is. Kick rocks troll we coming for your ragass team.

  14. Clean House Says:

BS- god name TMAX- true, the guy’s a politician-
Hopefully he can manipulate everyone into their best

  15. JimmyJack Says:

There is no pressure to be successful? Man, how little do you honestly know about this team?

Yeah sure our previsous coaches were able to stay employed without success. The Bucs just let coaches go decades without winning and let them stay around cause there is no expectations. Not like they ever fired a coach who couldn’t get the team winning after two seasons.

&@adambomb….If Byron leaves for another job that’s a good thing. It means he done a excellent job here.

  16. tmaxcon Says:

    JimmyJack

Of course ther is no pressure or expectations if there were glazers would have fixed this mess years ago. You can’t be this bad for this long without trying to be this bad….. 2 good years in 42 is hardly a pressure packed legacy to live up to…. remember this franchise puts failures in the ring of underachievement

  17. Rod Munch Says:

I like Arians, but he pumps up everyone around him in general. Not sure how much I believe anything he says publicly and I put zero credence in anything he says publicly. Listening to Cardinals fans this was the same act he pulled there. It’s just an observation, not a criticism.

  18. BucemBruski Says:

It’s not exactly the same situation but I run shifts at my job and you think I ever say things about other people publically that negative? No, put them up publically to build confidence and coach behind closed doors.

  19. JimmyJack Says:

Ah yes the fail safe logic that if you have expectations it means it will be fixed.

In one comment you made a to talk yourself in circles and are totally oblivisous. But feel free to explain to me what the Glazer’s gotta do with the bad Buc teams from the 70s 80s & 90s. I mean you said 42 years so stand by it.

Your just a sore loser dude. You’re still sore from the 1999 loss to the Rams and whine about it every day……..That’s cool with me cause at least shows you’re a pationate fan and not the troll you commonly get called…….Just do me a favor and stay away from RayJay. You are a dejecting person and we don’t need that crap infecting the home crowd. The team feeds off crowd energy and your dejection will physically hurt the team. Keep your rants here where they are harless please.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

Im not a sore loser i just dont accept failure or have low standard like yourself…..

  21. firethecannons Says:

Joe how much more of tmax’s bs do you need –calling the glazers dumb arses is above and beyond ready for you to ban tmax for another stretch anytime

also the advertisements on the sides of the pages on your website are really racy–I am a 55 year old woman and I just happen to like football like a guy does. I don’t want to look at bathing suits and dating sites OMG! Sometimes at my job people glance at my computer and it is weird! I have to hide the screen. Anyway, the latest is bunch of gals in really racy costumes-make it stop!!!!!

  22. JimmyJack Says:

And yeah yeah blah blah blah……You are not begin negative you are being a realist…….Spare me.

All you do is dwell in the past and have no future aspirations. Anybody could do it but many of us have standards and expectations we want this team to live up to…….We are all well aware of the past but we are also not scared of the future. I’m sorry you have given up but don’t expect give give up and bail like you. That’s a soft and weak mentality and also make you hyprocrite.

If you are getting these ads, that tells Joe the computer you are using has a very interesting browser history and cache of cookies.

  24. tmaxcon Says:

    firethecannons

It’s not BS when its accurate….

The glazers have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are spineless fools but obviously they have you trained well to accept failure year in and year out…. raise your standards. Glazers are worst owners on 2 different continents in different sports their ignorance is proven each and evey loss and bad decsion….

  25. tmaxcon Says:

    Firethecannons

You should worry about the porn use on your pc than me…. Google’s ad targeting is a direct reflection on your viewing habits. You racy gal….

  26. tnew Says:

Seriously…. Most of the ads on my banner is all about Low T, Joint therapy, surgical procedures and cancer prevention…. Please can I get the racy girls!!!

  27. JimmyJack Says:

You consistently say that the franchise has no hope and you ask for our good players to run from the orginazation calling because we will never win.

You expect us to remain as losers. That is your expectation. That is called having a low standard & it make you a textbook hyprocrite.

  28. tmaxcon Says:

    JimmyJack

Its called accepting reality with glazer idiots as owners.

So are you a better fan because you buy the bs year after year and will get nutpunched by week 6????

I think avoiding the nutpunch is the smarter approach…. just accept we are fans of a minor league franchise ran by retards that’s all….

  29. tmaxcon Says:

    Firethecannons

Any chance that Kellen Boswell Winslow II aka Jerk Chicken has access to your pc. That might explain the racy ads…. any poultry ads mixed in….

  30. JimmyJack Says:

Nobody is not accepting reality we are all well aware of the past.

The reality of 2019 has not happened yet so there aren’t nothing to accept.

Using the past to predict the future is not accepting reality. All you’re doing is dwelling in the past. And as sure as you are sitting there typing you know that you know just as little as any other Buc fan for how this season will unfold. If you do know they you are the biggest fool running cause the are Vegas lines for every game and every season for you to clean up instead of sitting around typing about it.

And no I aren’t no better fan then anybody. That’s just dumb to say that. But perhaps I’m better then the guy who runs around namecalling all the fans on a daily basis.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

And when you say that you wanna avoid the nutpunch that just means you are scared of losing. I won’t be scared and that don’t mean I’m buying any BS…….If I like our team and their chances then I won’t let fear stand in my way. It don’t mean I have to like every team every year at all cost. I just happen to like this team with these players and coaches this year.

For what it’s worth I didn’t like Dirk’s team ever since we laid a egg in Dallas 2016. They showed what they were worth in a big game & even after that they had a chance to save face against New Orleans the following week and got completely owned. Ever since then they did nothing to proove any worth as a solid football team……..New England at home in prime time the following year……freaking joke……………The only reason I tell you that is becausemany fans don’t just buy in Willy nilly every year like you want to portray. Most of your comments do not match reality in the slightest like you want to pretend they do……..But for folks like you I guess it makes life easier to slap a lable on something and call it a day. Problem is that it’s just a delusion

  32. richbucsfan Says:

No racy girls here. Lots of Abe’s and other Bucs stuff

  33. BucEmUp Says:

Wtf…this team is cursed. Doesnt matter how good something seems. Every year there is one factor that causes everything to fall apart. Whether its jeff tedford, mrsa, qb headcase, lovie being stuck in the past on the tampa two defnese, koetter hiring someone stuck in the past.on the same crap defense. We get the best coach arguably ever hired by this tean and its all going to go to waste because of one guy..

If this offense regresses its not the players..The roster hasnt changed on offense. If this playcalling causes a regression Im.going to throw up if no chnages are made

  34. RustyRhinos Says:

Tmaxcon, you really believe your own BS? “with no pressure or expectations to be successful.” The moment any coach signs a contract or anyone really that they have no pressure or expectations to be successful? Have you recently hit your head against the keyboard again. Relax Tmaxcon you can’t be always been his shallow in your belief that people work their arses off to get ahead. Even if they are paid well to do it. You really believe a coach who has been coaching across decades after being a college player, a two time coach of the year. Would not do his best and work tirelessly toward the goal of having a successful season. I bet your eyes are brown Tmaxcon, because you and your beliefs are full of $hit.
With a “fan” like you we do not need any bandwagoneers. Chicken little Tmaxcon. In your world the sky is not falling it has fallen.
What a stupid thing to say. “with no pressure or expectations to be successful.”

  35. GhostofSchiano Says:

Rod Munch Said – I like Arians, but he pumps up everyone around him in general.

EXACTLY – I never saw or even heard of Koetter / Smitty rallying the troops….EVER.

BA is respected, he is a leader (Not a glorified OC/DC like we had before) and I am highly optimistic about this season. GO BUCS

One more thing, just for Rod “GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR”

  36. firethecannons Says:

Unfortunately Joe(I think you are right) a month ago we went on vacation back to Florida and I was checking out swim suits to buy from Venus( for my daughter)–a slightly racy place–I’m still paying for it! Lol!!!

I’m a long time diehard Bucs fan and a (straight) female. I see the same stuff, too. It comes with the territory. Best advice: ignore it!

  38. SappAttack Says:

we all know that he would hit the do over button and take the Browns job had he known all the moves they were going to make. wouldn’t you? I am a die hard bucs fan but I’m also honest.
