Trade!

August 31st, 2019

Swings deal.

UPDATED 4:58 p.m. – For the Bucs fans who constantly holler and have sprained an ankle from stomping on the floor over the offensive line, this is what you have been waiting for.

The Bucs swung a trade for an offensive lineman today. Jason Licht worked a deal and obtained Steelers offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins, a 2016 fourth-round pick. The Bucs also coughed up their 2021 sixth-round pick and got back the Steelers’ 2021 seventh-rounder.

Hawkins has five career games under his belt. And he’s also had some A+ coaching under former Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

So now the question for Joe is, can backup tackle Caleb Benenoch hold onto a job? He’s tolerable as a right tackle, and a total windmill as a left tackle.

We should know the initial 53-man roster later this afternoon.

looks like his injury history is what bucs look for in their quest for basement titles…. let the garbage collecting begin.

  2. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Nothing is more Jason Licht than swinging a trade for this guy.

  3. Colonel Angus Says:

Couple of has-beens and a couple of never-will be’s, that’s what is available to fix the O Line.

  4. DooshLaRue Says:

Come on….. swing a trade using Santos and/or Brate.
We need a big score for the OL!

  5. Dapostman Says:

I can’t help but think Arians still has connections to the Steelers. They have a deep OL and maybe this guy is worth becoming a starter next season. Time will tell. The price is minimal.

  6. Steve in Mad Beach Says:

Something is better than nothing. The Steelers are one of only a couple of teams in the NFL with decent O-line depth, so we’ll take it!

  7. Go Bucs 73 Says:

The End for Caleb Cannotblock? 🤞 He could not possibly be worse.

  8. adam from ny Says:

    prolly a good move…

it’s gotta be better than half our ol guys already…

    addition by addition

  9. Dubcity6 Says:

This is not what the OL crowd is hollering for. This is a last resort in a failure at putting together a quality offensive line on the field.

  10. Hodad Says:

This is as close to doing nothing, but doing something.

  11. Hodad Says:

That Licht’s a wizard with these bold moves!

  12. Stanglassman Says:

LSU kid only 25 and has quick feet. His biggest problem in Pittsburgh is he had a couple of injuries. This maybe a steal, he could be Dotson replacement next year.

  13. WyomingDude Says:

Well the Steelers wouldn’t have traded a healthy 25 year old outta LSU just 3 years ago in the 4th round. Keep in mind that Mike Munchak was still Oline coach in PIT when this kid was drafted, required Munchak’s approval, so that’s something. Plus BA likely does have some ties there still probably.

Licht needs to sign McCoy before next week’s preparation for week 1. ROJO and Barber won’t cut it.

  14. Dapostman Says:

    @Stanglassman,

don’t try to use logic on these Buc fan dolts. They expect to trade a broken down TE and a kicker for the second coming of John Hannah.

  15. Couch Fan Says:

And in typical Buc fan style, the hating on a guy they know nothing about begins.

  16. Bucfan33 Says:

How come joe never has breaking news? Always just regurgitating what a national guy finds out first. Honestly just curious why the local guys don’t get the scoop

  17. Todd Says:

Stay tuned…more to come. This is Bucs porn right now.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Stanglassman

the problem with that statement is they needed dotson’s replacement 8 years ago

  19. Kgh4life Says:

Come on, let’s see what the guy does, injuries are a part of the NFL. Some guys aren’t as lucky.

  20. DB55 Says:

this is what you have been waiting for.

    False news.

#Steelers trade OL Jerald Hawkins to #Buccaneers. Tampa also gets a 2021 7th round pick. Steelers get 2020 6th rounder. Fred Johnson and Zack Banner both out played Hawkins who was a disappointment as 4th Rounder few years ago.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

It’s my Bucs favorite time of the Year. Let the Dumpster Dippin began!!!

  22. Mort Says:

Look, Licht has made some excellent moves just before the regular season begins. Who says this isn’t worth a flop of late round draft picks?

  23. Slugglife Says:

TMax is one of the Joes. I’m convinced now.

  24. Slugglife Says:

Tmax is one of the joes.

    Send it to moderation.

  25. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Very Athletic RT at LSU a few years ago. Was also a good basketball player. Blocked for Leonard Fournette who set the school record and led the SEC in rushing with 256 yards. Run blocking is his strength.

Good pickup if he can stay healthy. Was injured both years he play for the Steelers.

BA said it takes 4-5 years before most Olinemen develop. I think it was worth the late round draft pick.

  26. BucsFan727 Says:

Nice are right tackle to replace Dot has arrived. Dotson is a injury waiting to happen. His been in the league awhile and it takes its toll on there bodies. We need a RG now. I wiunder why Cappa isnt playing tackle like he did in collage. Good to see Licht making a move but im sure BA was pressing for it. I still would draft the best gaurd or tackle we can get in the draft next year.

  27. Scurvy Dogs Says:

Noah Spence cut…love the accountability and the message it sends.

  28. WyomingDude Says:

Why would the fool release Santos just now, when supposedly they were getting “multiple calls” on Santos just 2 days ago in the Booty” thread here?

Licht couldn’t sell water to an Ethiopian tribe dying of thirst….what a waste this character is!?!

  29. tmaxcon Says:

    Slugglife

wrong again the Joe’s are much nicer guys and far more politically correct! It must really piss you off that I am always right for you to make up conspiracy theories.

  30. BucsFan727 Says:

Im hyped about getting any olinemen with some tallent to mold. Pittsburgh has got to have the deepest oline depth in the NFL I was saying that there backups would start on are oline after watching them in action week1 of the pre season.

  31. Steve in Mad Beach Says:

The “multiple calls” line was B.S.

They were trying to drum up interest, if they could’ve traded the guy for anything, they would have!

  32. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

Off Topic: From the wonderful world of college football.

For all those who doubted Darrell Henderson’s all time NCAA record of 8.2 YPC. They said his team, the Memphis Tigers, play in a soft kindergarten type division where no defense is ever played. It’s not like he played in a real division like the SEC.

Today Memphis beat Old Miss (SEC) 15-10 in a defensive struggle where Memphis did not give up 3rd down conversion for 3 quarters. They held Mississippi to 173 yards total.

They also mentioned that today was the 16th consecutive non-conference victory for the Tigers. They’re not your typical home coming cupcake team.

    Clowney went to Seattle.

  33. I will trade you my pile of crap for your pile of vomit Says:

Boy that Jason Licht is a genius!! Look at how he fleeced the Steelers! They never knew what hit them! Couple more trades like that and a few free agent over priced and under performing free agent signings and a few more 2nd round wasted pics on a holder or punter or kicker and we will be right there! You go boy!

  34. jjbucfan Says:

Would have been available in 20 minutes, WTF?

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Benenoch is 100x better than Boozer.

If Boozer makes this roster than we are in some big trouble.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

    Boozer was cut, thank God.

  37. Brandon Says:

Ghost, WTF does that prove other than WITHOUT your hero Memphis is good enough to beat SEC teams… which proves that his 8.2 YPC is inflated due to Memphis being the bully of a weak confidence.

  38. Bojim Says:

    Good depth?

  39. Anonymous Says:

OMG Joe. So this is the takeaway: This Bucs team is not ready to start the 2019 season. Everyting sucks on the O except Mike Evans and the running game. The D shows promise. And they have a kicker. Yeah, let’s just get some more of that Licht Arians sauce. 3-13. First overall. Draft a QB or pass rusher. Dumpt the rest.

  40. Joe in Michigan Says:

To the people on here who are NOT habitual complainers, I commend you. To the people who ARE habitual complainers, I wish they had a dislike button.

  41. Buccinutz15 Says:

3rd Round DE/LB Jachai Polite just cut by the Jets. Could be a Spence clone, but worth kicking the tires. Veteran OG/C Stefan Wisnieski released also.

  42. TDTB Says:

Agree with Buccnutz15. Also think Cardale Jones or Tyree Jackson are worth a claim.

  43. Destinjohnny Says:

Good thing we have Jason to fix the o line problem

  44. Dubcity6 Says:

Joe in Michigan….. you are mad that people complain about Jason Litch? Really? Hes only shown to be the worst GM the last 5 years and you think people wont complain? I’m surprised people still give him the benefit of the doubt and support his moves.

  45. Joe in Michigan Says:

Dubcity6: Not necessarily Jason Licht. Not everything is doom and gloom for the Bucs as some make it out to be. Most of the time I ignore it, but none of us on here know if this Hawkins kid is gonna be good, or horrible. Given that we didn’t give up much to get him I’m gonna stay positive about the trade.

  46. ElBajito43 Says:

Lol man LICHT is so worthless

  47. nick Says:

some people need reminding of an old phrase, “one mans garbage is another mans treasure”.

New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas cowboys… you get a cut OLineman from them, your getting talent.

A team deep in WRs will cut WRS that are better than the starters on a team like the Giants.
