2019 Bucs Media Fan Survey

August 31st, 2019

Team Glazer is winning the battle for eyeballs

Through a dozen training camp practices and two preseason games this year, Joe commissioned a survey of 200 random Bucs fans in attendance.

Joe always performs annual market research, but this was the first time it was done in an organized fashion, using three different surveyors with special attention to approaching a variety of fans in various demographics.

The 200 fans were simply asked to name their top source or go-to source for Buccaneers news and analysis.

Below are the fan responses and the total number of times each answer was provided.

Social Media (Twitter & Facebook) – 43
Buccaneers.com – 38
JoeBucsFan.com – 32
Don’t read Bucs content – 29
All Bucs Content Equally/No Preference – 18
YouTube – 7
JoeBucsFan & Pewter Report mix – 6
Pewter Report – 6
**Tampa Bay Times – 6
Bleacher Report – 5
WDAE Radio – 4
ESPN – 3
NFL.com – 1
Pewter Plank – 1
Sports radio (multiple stations) – 1
**2 respondents said TBO.com, which is owned by the Tampa Bay Times

Joe extends a hearty congratulations to Team Glazer and the Buccaneers.com team for the results here. Every NFL organization desires to control the messages delivered to fans. That’s why they invest so much cash into their websites and social media management.

Only a couple of results surprised Joe: the commanding victory by “social media” and the YouTube total.

Joe looks forward to next year’s survey.

If you put a poll up on the site, then I think the JoeBucsFan.com would be the winner (especially for us fans that are not in Florida). I always go to Joe Buck Fan first thing in the morning. I have stopped going to Buccaneers.com because their content seems to only swing one way. I like how Joe keeps it real and reports on all Bucs information, not just what they deem important. Keep it up Joe.

  2. Todd Says:

We’re all NFL (Bucs) crack whores. We can’t refresh fast enough. That’s why Twitter is top of the list (no to FB). JBF does a great job of posting fresh content throughout the day. I’d add Pro Football Rumors to the list, personally. That’s the crackiest-of-crack. Mike Florio’s website is pretty good too.

    Can’t stand “big media.”

Also, podcasts dominate (personally) my attention.

So JBF, you guys are covering every media channel that’s “crack-like” to serve our addictions to Bucs football. Thank you.

  3. JA Says:

    Congrats Joe.
Seems people turn to places where their voices can be heard, no matter how insane, ill scripted or redundant their opinions might be.
Got a laugh at WDAE. They bill themselves as Buc-Masters, but they are little more than guy talk. “She is so hot,” the only thing that comes out of that Ron character’s adolescent mouth, is the reason I quit listening years ago. Don’t know about others, but I’ve yet to see a beautiful woman on the radio. With only 2% of those polled stating that is where they get their Bucs info, it’s a wonder they are still on the air.
I give you guys credit for your expeditious reporting. If a Buc story breaks you are on it. Total consumption of one sports team 24/7 must be exhausting. If I were all Bucs, all the time, my wife would kill me!

  4. Todd Says:

And I think it’s about time to begin the conversation about the very real epidemic breaking out called JBF-Syndrome…also known as BFD (“Blood-Flow-Deficit”).

This is the perpetual loss of blood flow to your lower extremities due to sitting too long on the sh!tter reading JBF and commenting via cellular devices. Over the past five years, studies have found that this type of toiletitus can result in the paralyzation of the legs, often requiring the periodic lifting of the left and right butt cheeks to remedy the flow.

So far there have been no amputations attributes to Joe Bucs Fan…but the danger is real.

  5. Bigbucfan87 Says:

The die hard bucs fans come here.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It would have been better for the Bucs to inquire as to the cross-media habits….asking to list in order where fans went for Buc news…..or at least the top two….
That would give an indication as to how broad the audience for JBF…..
The 32 is a respectable number….but it would be nice to know who is everyone’s #2 choice.

  7. Chris l Says:

This website is a godsend joe and all the podcasts. I love the bucs and appreciate all the articles year-round. Thank you and keep up the good work. I hope we can start writing good things beginning next Sunday!!

  8. DCBucsfan Says:

The only reason I go to the teams official website is for the media post game conference! Even that needs to get better audio for the media questions when most of the times you just don’t know the subject of what the player or coach is answering about. In fairness Scott Smith is a very knowledgeablewriter.

Keep up the good work Joes!!

[Thanks for the kind words! — Joe]

  9. D-Rome Says:

The social media response is interesting because that could ALSO include JBF, Pewter Report, TBT, really anyone. It makes sense as it’s in real time.

  10. Nicholas Micciche Says:

Well said Todd. I, too, am part of the BFD crew but it is well worth it. Pewter Report is my #2, JBF #1 of course, but I definitely liked them more once they got Trevor Sikkema. Maybe the Joes can add Steven Cheah one day in the near future. Would give the audience a little more technical expertise like Tre does. Having ManBeast was awesome this summer too, both for the readers and for the young Zac. Thanks for all you guys do. I love reading the criticism of you guys and laughing because you really provide us with the most fair and balanced coverage of the Bucs. Not everything is rainbows and sunshine and that’s ok. Better to know it than to be ignorant.

  11. TampanianInAtlanta Says:

Joe Bucs Fan is my go-to source as relocated fan. That said, I am back in Tampa frequently and can read local papers online. Joe’s are, hands down, the best. Daily reader on and off season. Thanks, Joes – and to all the jabronis that post comments that make me laugh.

  12. BucInCLE Says:

As an out of state fan, JBF has been my source for Bucs for a long time. I remember when you announced the LeGarette Blount/Dez Briscoe signings!!

  13. Buccaroo Says:

    toot …toot

  14. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Bunch of fans who love this site despite the product on the field

  15. BucfaninMi Says:

    Colonel_mp nailed it.

  16. Todd Says:

    Nicholas—

I’m not familiar with Stephen Cheah. Where do I find him?

  17. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

    Fake News….

  18. Rob in Land O Lakes Says:

I don’t think any of us agree 100% on our opinions, but JBF is hands down the beast source of Buc information. Twitter is great during live events for injury updates, but I’ll take the Joe’s across the board.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The good thing about JBF is the variety of opinions…..and different takes on all things Bucs……Buc.com is understandably biased and will always paint the most positive picture…

Hell, with JBF we even have 2 Joes & Ira……and all don’t always agree.

  20. Nick Says:

You should be very proud JOE. I don’t agree with you a lot of times, but nothing can take away from the truth of how hard you guys work to bring us good Buc’s coverage.

Thank you and congratulations hopefully the Buc’s are recognizing the work you guys are doing.

  21. DCBucsfan Says:

Wondering why my post is still under “waiting for moderation”since the article was out this morning… and still had not posted yet! I am sure steve or Lee should not have any issues with my comment whatsoever but maybe their personnel??

  22. The Buc Realist Says:

LOL!!!!!! THE Glazers are counting SHEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wait until it is painfully obvious to the sheep that it is another lost season!!!!!!! And the sheep will look around wondering what happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Overheard Zack doing a few of these nice way to gauge the pulse of the fan

I fall under the Pewter Report and JBF column I like the depth of their articles and the constant updates to JBF so it’s a good mix

Glad to see a lot of people tune out WDAE

  24. WyomingDude Says:

Shady McCoy just cut by Bills!! Maybe he could be had for 1 year $3 million base, plus incentives up to $2 mill more, at age 31, based on yds gained and TD’s gained! Throw in option year for 2020.

Darn sight better than what we got NOW, plus fits BA’ s pass catching dual threat option. Gotta work fast Licht!! Call Rosenhaus now.

  25. DooshLaRue Says:

On a side note….. the Bills released LeSean McCoy.
I bet Joe is hard at work this very second penning a story about how we should enter the “sweepstakes “ to win his declining service!

  26. Warrenfb12 Says:

How is a top response I don’t follow bucs media? Lol.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

shady mccoy come on down to TAMPA BAY!!!!!!

i’ll also add in don barclay-OL, anthony Fabiano-C and Christian Westerman-OG

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  28. BigPoppaBuc Says:

Pewter report struggling… Used to be my go to before I found JBF. Definitely a unique vibe on this site. Buccaneers.com I like for the video content. But they’ve got a big ol’budget. JBF is an incredibly relatable and blue collar Bucs news source. Keep it up!

  29. tmaxcon Says:

the joe’s have built a winner unfortunately the glazers can not say the same.

  30. DB55 Says:

    Joe

There’s a couple of twitter-heads screaming fake news right now. Lol.

You’re welcome. Tmax and I will be waiting for our royalty checks. Lol

  31. Buccfan37 Says:

I find all I want and need to know right here plus the comments are all over the place. Great job JBF.

  32. BUC CHEEKS Says:

Clowney to Seahawks for those sweating DE’s

  33. Jean Lafitte Says:

I’m partial to Rotoworld, although they are not Bucs exclusive

  34. Louis Friend Says:

Uhh, I fall under Twitter and use all of them, period. A truly deranged fan’s favorite is the most recent *and* relevant news regardless of which outlet is pushing it.

  35. Bobbo Says:

I think JBF and PR mix is the best way to get two wildly different but consistent views

  36. Buc4evr Says:

JBF for most Buc info and PR for some stories and interviews. All the diehard fans are on this Site and we really appreciate Joe’s hard work and constant updates!

  37. BetterBucFan Says:

I give Joe a lot of crap but this is the only website I go to to check Bucs news

  38. down in the dirt doug Says:

Morning routine–wake up–bathroom-turn on computer—Jbf—-coffee—breakfast — pewter report.THANKS FOR BEING THE BEST SPORTS SITE HANDS DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

I’m surprised Bucsnation was left off this survey.

  40. Old School Athlete Says:

Congratulations to the Joes. 32 is a huge number! JBF is my source and I love that you give us a chance to comment and start discussions.

  41. Joe Says:

I’m surprised Bucsnation was left off this survey.

Joe left nothing off. It was whatever and however people answered.

  42. Joe Says:

Guys (and gals?), thank you all for the kind words. Simply put, this site would not exist if not for readers like you. So you should all take a bow. You guys helped build this site. And Joe thanks all of you (even the haters) from the bottom of Joe’s heart.

if not for readers, he’d be working in the real world with all the players being cut this week. 🙂

  43. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Bucs trade for a swing tackle from the Steelers…swap of late round picks in 2021.

  44. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Joe would make one heck of a pharmaceutical sales rep…if not male model. 😉

  45. SoFloBuc Says:

I rather watch their content on YouTube, their site always crashes when I watch videos.

  46. Mike Johnson Says:

I think Joe does a very credible job with his articles. He hits on the Ups and downs then throws in some humor for good measure. Fans here are allowed to express themselves freely whether folks agree with them or not. And I call this America at its finest. It both hard writing about and supporting a team that has not made the playoffs in 12 years. So most of us just joke about it to keep our sanity. We are just tired of waiting. One day our turn will come again. Until then Joe, continue sailing the ship. You do a great job. Having one for ya..on college gameday.

  47. Tom S. Says:

Good job Joe! While I used to follow PR and they put out a well produced podcast that is often entertaining I can’t handle their propaganda and spin.

I dont agree with Ira and the Joe’s on everything but I know they are being authentic and true to what they believe. I don’t believe all of the competition is doing the same and as long as that continues JBF will be my go to for Bucs info.

  48. Bojim Says:

Ever since I found this site in 14 I always go here first. Thanks Joe.

  49. Chosen One Says:

Lol. 1.5% go to that dive BSPN.

Congrats on earning that rating to both espn and Joe

I use JBF almost exclusively and for good reason.

  50. JimmyJack Says:

As somebody who has never used Facebook and doesn’t even know how to use Twitter I’d like to thank Joe for keeping me in the loop.

The day I have to figure out how to use a hashtag to keep up on my Bucs is the day I give up all together. I consider myself your average die-hard Joe Bucs Fan
