Demar Dotson finds tranquility

It looks as though coach Bucco Bruce Arians has spared Demar Dotson.

He did it by getting rid of Evan Smith.

The Buccaneers’ starting right tackle was locker neighbors to Smith for years, and while talking to JoeBucsFan.com in a 1-on-1 interview about Smith’s release, Dotson explained that sitting next to for five years — in offensive line meetings and elsewhere — wasn’t exactly his cup of tea.

“Just the fact that the man was football knowledgeable.“And he loved to talk, man,” Dotson said when asked what he’ll remember most about Smith.

“That’s one of the things, you know, I got the bulk of because I was sitting right next to him for all those years man and listened to the guy talk and talk and talk. He’ll talk your ear off, man. Sometimes he doesn’t know how to be quiet, so I had to take the bulk of it. You know, for all those years sitting next to him, oh my gosh. So, I try to sometimes, you know, sit down real quick and put my headphones in and, you know, try to avoid the long conversations man, but we had some good moments in there man and we had good moments together. So, you know, I texted him [Monday] after I woke up and I heard about the news and, you know, just tell him I appreciate him and everything for the friendship man, and good luck with whatever his next endeavor is in life.”

Dotson noted that while at times Smith could be a bit too much, he was disheartened to see the 2014 free agent pickup go (and the last to go from that horrid free agent class) .

It’s tough to see a friend leave, but Dotson pointed out that it’s part of the business of the NFL, and while he might be disappointed by some things, he’s never surprised anymore.

And he shouldn’t be surprised by this one. Unfortunately, Smith, 33, played poorly in Pittsburgh Friday night, and he was coming off an injury riddled 2018 season.

Wish the quote was, “He played his ass off!”

GB knew when it was time to cut ties with him

A melancholy glimpse into both the day-to-day slog and corporate underbelly of the NFL. After 5 years, I suppose Smith deserves the football blog version of an obituary. Best of luck to the man, and may he find some peace.

Need more OL help before week 1 IMO. At least some better depth at a minimum.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of Smith…….He could have said…”he worked hard and was very versatile & a great teammate” but said “talked too much”….tried to get away from him by wearing headphones.

Unfortunately for you Dot…..you may survive this year….but father time has caught up with you……you’re next.

“Kobe Faker is going back to school

Without a GED further education seemed moot and unattainable however

I will be learning and after 6months will become a certified Golfcart Mechanic at Plant City Vocational School

With all the 90 year old coaches being hired, Golfcart Mechanic will be in high demand @ 1Buc Place

    Wish Kobe Luck”

Dot isn’t that far behind him. Probably his last season

  8. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

If Dotson is healthy this season, and not constantly trying to help his hapless guard playing next to him, he will be just fine.

  9. The Fighting Schiano’s Says:

    Kobe,

We are all dumber now for reading your post.

I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.

    @Kobe Faker

You said “moot” instead of “mute.” As far as I am concerned, this qualifies you for an honorary GED.

Now go get that golf cart battery changer certificate. You can do it!

  11. Dapostman Says:

    @Kobe,

I guess you will need something to do after RoJo gets his 50 yard game.

    Good luck & Buh bye.

  12. 74 Bucs fan Says:

Barack – pretty sure Kobe used “moot” correctly, as in “moot point”.

  13. Old School Athlete Says:

Ok Kobe, I will be sure to mention to Chuck Knoll, Dick Vermeil, Pete Carroll, Don Shula, Tom Landry, Don Coryell, Monte Kiffin, Joe Avezzano, Wade Phillips, Nick Saban, et al that old guys can’t coach.

    74 Bucs fan,

That was my point, Brutha! Kobe is over qualified!

Even Dot knows EDS is done in the NFL….

How many Buccaneers of late that spent time on the active roster have been forced to retire from the NFL after the Bucs cut them – because no other team wanted them?

    The answer is a Bunch

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Good luck to Evan Smith. He would have been cut 2 yrs ago by say..any one of the top 15 NFL teams. But after all..BucLife baby!

  17. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I will never forget the play where JW had thrown yet another INT against the Bengals and while the runback was still happening, DOT thru his hands up in disgust to say “WTF??!!!” — LMAO!!!! —-Although I am a big JW fan (and i think DOT is too), he spoke for ALL of us on that one.

Pretty clear that DOT is very comfortable expressing himself honestly through body language and words. It is refreshing.

DOT seems like a fun guy to hang around. He will be missed when his time has come, and I appreciate all of these years that he has given our BUCS.

  18. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Great point, Pickgrin. Hopefully those days are over. I actually really like where our roster is going right now. Next year we will gave some cap room too.
