“That Give-And-Pull”

Chris Godwin is feelin’ it.

After nine days of training camp, there isn’t a single doubt that the defense is winning the Bucs’ summer.

But momentum has shifted to the offense and Chris Godwin says he knows why.

“I think it’s just us getting comfortable with the scheme,” Godwin explained Monday after being asked why the offense is drastically improved. “Kind of getting, like, our legs underneath us a little bit and really just focusing on execution. I think in order for you to have a really successful training camp as a team, you know, there’s going to be that give-and-pull. You know, you want a really good competition between offense and defense, and you know, we’ve had that. The offense has won some, the defense has won some, so we’re looking forward to keeping that going.”

Now that back and forth of camp is to be expected, especially if you ask Byron Leftwich. The defense was ahead of the offense through the first week.

Over the last couple of practices, Jameis Winston was sharper. Over the last couple of practices, the running game looks better. And over the last couple of practices, there appears to be a much better offensive rhythm than in past practices.

While the secondary is still flying around, not nearly as many passes are being intercepted.

Why?

Because the quarterbacks are improving their decision-making and are much more efficient with their throws. The offense clearly has improved on picking up the scheme.

Last week, Bucco Bruce Arians said he was throwing the kitchen sink at Winston. After that adjustment period, he is far more comfortable.

And so is the rest of the offense.

translation…. those high schoolers led by the short, slow and fragile vh3bust have come back down to earth….

  2. K2 Says:

This offense is very capable of scoring 35 points per game. So, if the O don’t beat themselves and defense becomes respectable…it might be fun to watch the Bucs this year.

  3. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Bucs were the 3rd best total yards leader last year. If the defense is holding par with the offense this year, then this tells you they are much improved on defense.

Tmaxcon, do you use urine instead of milk with your cereal every morning?

    My goodness!

Here I was thinking that you’d have nothing to post about now that we got rid of Gerald. You’re really stepping your game up!

35 points per game… choose your words more carefully

Can’t really tell much from these practice results, imo. Friday will be very interesting to see how both the O and the D do. I suspect that the team will do well. We’ll see.

I wish Tmax and Kobe would get run over by a bus at the same time.

  8. DB55 Says:

I thought it was because Demar Dotson and Caleb Cannotblock got benched but wtfdik

  9. Jean Lafitte Says:

We’ll see this Friday if this team has improved.

The D is looking solid, but we’ve been there before. I have seen new drills that I’ve never seen in 45 years of watching the game, including close and personal at practice.

JUST PUBLICLY RELEASED. Time McGraw doing a concert in RayJay before Bucs season opener against SF! Hot! Starts at 2pm, for a 4:25pm game.

Get your tickets…if people won’t pay to see Winston, they’ll pay to see Tim McGraw!

tmax the first to comment all the time–dude get a life–it is time–go jump on the panthers fan base and tear GMC to shreds some more–just go away.

    @Mag

We usually have a ton of opposition fans…..but won’t have many from SF……a good idea to have the concert & try to fill the seats…..I can only imagine how the beer drinking crowd will be after 5 hours of brew…..
    Joe would know….

  13. Magadude Says:

Yeah, it should be hot and wild. And hopefully they prep for all the extra beer, ice, etc. The crowd should be well lubricated by kickoff!

  14. Clw JB Says:

Perhaps the give and “take” is a good sign Chris…

    Tim McGraw….yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnn

    Tim McGraw …if you’re a chick

How ’bout some Nickelback or Disturbed. That would send our beer logged brains into sublime euphoria. lol

“That Give-And-Pull”” Let’s just hope that all the giving and pulling has a happy ending.

For Godwin, I love the kid, think he’s great – but man do I hope he practiced without gloves this offseason. He was awful in those games where it was raining and he couldn’t wear gloves. Evans had that horrific game, in the rain, against the Giants a few years ago, and he got the message and it’s really not been an issue since. I hope Godwin has done the same. The only thing that concerns me is that no one seems to ask him about it – if the Joe’s see this I’d love for you guys to follow-up and just find out what changes, if any, he’s made.

    @tmaxipad

I suspect that you are a Falcons, Saints or Panthers fan.

And you just come to this site to sow discord among our fanbase, media, locker-room, and city.

Tmaxipad is not a Bucs fan.
