Pulse Of The Fans – Day 5

July 31st, 2019

The QB position is today’s focus

The fans came out to One Buc Palace again yesterday to support their hometown Buccaneers. Before practice kicked off, JoeBucsFan.com caught up with a few fans to talk to them about the Bucs. Here’s what the fans had to say in this daily camp feature by meanbeast JoeBucsFan intern Zach Seifter.

Question 1: Where do you rank Jameis Winston among NFC South quarterbacks? Why do you have him ranked where you do?

Summary – The overall consensus and obvious answer to most here was Jameis is the No. 4 QB in the NFC South. With a future Hall-of-Famer and Super Bowl champ in Drew Brees, plus two of the last four NFL MVP’s in Matt Ryan and Cam Newton, Jameis finds himself at the bottom of the pack. However, a few fans like Bucs fan Reggie Jackson believe Jameis is destined for greatness and just hasn’t reached that potential yet. Jackson stated Jameis is the best quarterback in the NFC South because of the ages and health his division counterpart. But the main reason his faith in Jameis is he believes the roster around him has held him back and Jameis is more talented than the other three QBs. One has to admire Jackson’s optimism.

Question 2: Who is the best Bucs quarterback in history, while he played for Tampa Bay?

Summary – This answer produced a plethora of answers from the Hall-of-Fame QB Steve Young, to Doug Williams, to even Shaun King. But the two that came up more than any other were Super Bowl winning quarterback Brad Johnson and Jameis Winston. Fans tied Johnson’s name to the Super Bowl win and said he earned the right to be in the conversation, even if he was helped by that incredible Buccaneer defense. Jameis, however, has many of the franchise passing records and is on the verge of breaking the all-time yardage record for this franchise. He already owns the record for most all-time touchdowns by a Buccaneer. So while the wins might not necessarily be there, the numbers certainly are, which warrants Jameis’ name as a possibility. And many of the fans feel the same way.

Worst QB in the division. He’s a 3rd tier starter and if he doesn’t turn it around this year he’s going to have the same career trajectory as Ryan Fitzpatrick. He’ll be the stop-gap starter/bench player until teams find their next guy. I don’t believe the QB of the future is on this roster.

Question 2: Who is the best Bucs quarterback in history, while he played for Tampa Bay?

Mike Glennon of course. Don’t @ me.

    #1 in the draft
    #2 on the 2018 roster
    #3 on the field
    #4 in the division
#5 season going to be big, let’s gooo

  3. Dapostman Says:

Whoever said Shaun King and Brad Johnson have been out in the sun too long. SMH.

  4. Buccaroo Says:

    Q1 – 4th

Q2 – Doug Williams, Vinnie Testaverde

Before the new CBA and pass interference rules were changed in favor of the offense

  5. LordCornelius Says:

Jameis is better than Cam when it comes to pure passing and it isn’t close IMO.

Difference is Newton has been more turnover efficient while playing on a team with a very solid to elite defenses pretty much all of his career, while also having very solid run game / conservative game plans for the most part where he hasn’t had to air it out a lot in catch up mode.

His completion % was up a lot last year but that’s because Christian McCaffery had 107 catches at an insanely high completion rate since they were all mostly dump offs/short intermediate throws.

Literally 1/3 of all of Newton’s completions (320 total) in 2018 were to that one RB.

Overall tho Jameis is #4 in the division until he has an efficient TD:Turnover season. Interested to see how Cam’s new throwing motion/etc actually play out into the regular season.

Easily the best QB I’ve ever seen as a Buc tho. But that bar was very low.

I always remember seeing Chris Simms at Dairy Joy in South Tampa, but I totally forgot that I got a Shaun King autograph when he was sitting behind us at IHOP when I was a kid.

Uhhhh, have to go with Brad Johnson going 12-4 in our only Super Bowl appearance beating a tough 11-5 Raiders that was pissed about the Gruden swap the year before.

  7. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

He’s the 4th best by a large margin

Best QB I’ve seen here is either Brad Johnson or Jeff Garcia both we’re good leaders and put the team in a good spot to win

  8. Magadude Says:

Just by virtue of being in for more years, Ryan Fitz is closer than Winston to reaching that go. Chomp on that one for a bit.

    Hint: It’s been 55 years,and Fitz ain’t QUITE there….

  9. unbelievable Says:

Lord Corn you nailed it. Jameis is def a better passer than Cam. Cam has almost always had a good defense (or at least decent) as well. But Brees and Ryan are still far ahead of Jameis.

Really hoping this is the year it all comes together for him. An average defense and run game would help too. Fingers crossed.

Who was asked that then said Shaun King, was it Shaun King himself? Lmao

  11. Clay Travis Says:

DO NOT CHECK Jameis’ stats compared to Cam Newton’s from 2016-2018!

    STATS ARE FOR LOSERS!

JAY-MISS may best Cam in almost every stat imaginable but Cam WINS more games and us smart fans know that since football is a 1-on-1 game like boxing, wins are all that matters when evaluating QBs.

Don’t worry, we will run JAY-MISS out of town soon!

WE will WIN for WE are LEGION!!!
