Niners Watch: 40 Days

July 30th, 2019

Yes, we are just 40 days from the start of that glorious thing called NFL football season.

How sweet it will be, especially if the Bucs open with a win against the 49ers at the not-sold-out-yet Den of Depression.

It is a must-win game whether you want to accept that or not. The Bucs must find their way to a respectable record at the bye week (following Week 6) and beating a nothing-special team like the Niners at home is so critical.

In San Francisco’s world, there is so much excitement about how well quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has looked in training camp, scrambling and throwing in pads and more. His blown ACL was fixed in October and there appear to be no setbacks based on everything Joe has been reading.

Fans and media there also are liking the rookie class.

New Niners linebacker, ex-Bucs Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander? He’s telling reporters that he feels “legendary,” but the team isn’t allowing him to play with contact.

Kwon is practicing but they’re taking things slowly and there is no firm timetable for Kwon, who had has own knee carved up in November.

A fresh Jimmy G. practice bomb is below:

Our defense going to eat the Niners up!

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I hope our defense delivers cause we know Jameis won’t.

  3. Kobe Faker Says:

    “36-34 Niners win

we miss 2- 40 yard cheap shot field goals by gay kicker (but he can kick far)”

    Kobe Faker

  4. sarasota garey Says:

    I hope were 49ers ready

  5. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

This might be some usual balloon deflating bucs loss that happens every few years like a 49 – 14 blowout and jimmy g throws 6tds and sets some opening day record, the bucs give up 5 sacks and ppl start saying niners are top 4 in nfl. The niners are average at best, the bucs are 2-3 years away from that

  6. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    @ TheBucsAnthem

You mean like last against the 49ers when Jameis he was 29-38 312yds 2 TDs 0 INT?

  7. NOSBOS Says:

A Bucs thumping of the 9ers opening day kicked started the run that lead to the first Superbowl win back in 97. A similar theme is about to occur in a few short weeks.

  8. TOM Says:

If they don’t beat the Niner’s it will be a long season.

  9. German Buc Says:

Love the optimism of our fans!

  10. NOSBOS Says:

Also Joe Chris Godwin is about to have an insane season. Apparently BA loves #2 WRs. Michael Floyd,John Brown,Santanio Holmes and the Great Antonio Brown al had breakout seasons under BA as #2 WRs.

  11. NOSBOS Says:

From 2009 to 2015 his offense ranked top 12 in yardage and scoring. Y’all think is optimism??? With this new Defense homie we about run s@#$.

  12. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

Jimmy G doesn’t scare me. Even healthy he isn’t great.

Defense, is the key to this season not being a joke

  13. Slugglife Says:

Better win week one or half the posters here will jump off the nearest bridge while yelling”the season is lost!”

  14. rhenry Says:

Our offensive line is what concerns me opening day. The 49ers have a beastly defensive front.

  15. Rayjay1122 Says:

The negative Nancy’s just want attention. If they were interviewed on TV and asked how the Bucs would do, I would bet they would regurgitate a far different response.

    Really???????

How can you even compare their QB Nick Mullins and a team that had nothing to play for in 2018……. Versus

Jimmy G and a coaching staff that had the whole offseason to prepare for the Bucs??????

You’re stupid……..don’t ever comment at me again dumb dumb

  17. rhenry Says:

Ray Jay, they could never do a TV interview, too much reflection from their tin foil hats. 11-5 baby!!!!!!! Go Bucs

  18. Buc4evr Says:

Are there any Bucs fans left on this board ? Niners, seriously? The Bucs are going to wipe the field with them. Jimmy G won’t know what hit him.

  19. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

The bucs are a 5-11 team with a 5-11 GM and looking like a 3-13 OL. There is no comparison to when this team & the bucs team 20 years ago that beat a playoff team niners.

  20. firethecannons Says:

Here’s to hoping we aint Tennessee ready for the Niners.

  21. Steven007 Says:

NOS, I remember that game well and you’re right. That came spearheaded the run we made the next few years including the super bowl. Sapp took out Rice and Young that game!

  22. NOSBOS Says:

You a betting man Dusty??? Or you just enjoy running yo d!@# mouth.

  23. Tye Says:

The Bucs will still be working on learning this new offense, with a fragile o-line and transitioning from 4-3 to 3-4 offense with really no pass rusher..

    Bucs 13
    49ers 31

  24. Tye Says:

    ‘3-4 defense’

  25. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Yup NOSBOS been making $ off bucs seasons past 3 years and made killing on jags over 2 years ago, put $ on jags, falcons, & bucs totals already…so ill bet someone who bets with their heart & not their head all day. There is no one on current bucs defense that could start on 97 bucs

  26. Bucsfan1988 Says:

RHenry, speaking of beastly defensive fronts…..

I’d say our O-line will be ready for them cuz right now they getting their a$$e$ kicked by our own beastly defensive front. SUH & VEA, outside LB’s flying around as well…

I think Bucs O-Line will be ready come opening day.

First time in YEARS they practicing/ playing against a juggernaut fellow team defense in the offseason.

  27. Oregonbucsfan Says:

I think there are several/many on this board that are underestimating the 9rs.

  28. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    @ TheBucsAnthem

If I’m dumb-dumb, then you must be an imbecile. My comment is the wind you’re pi$$ing in.
Did Jameis loss the game last year? I’m pretty sure he delivered enough to win.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

I was there last time the Bucs opened the season against the 49ers at home… it was 1997. Warren Sapp single handedly destroyed the 49ers by taking out Steve Young and Jerry Rice in that game. The thing I remember most about that game is how insanely hot and windy it was, which is an unusual combo, it felt like someone blowing a hairdryer in your face. The weakling yankee I went to the game with actually went to the hospital for sun poisoning that night, what a wimp.

Anywho, 1997 was the year the Bucs turned it all around and started that run to the SB.

  30. Defense Rules Says:

Not sure why we’re even concerned about the 49ers game 40 days out, because a LOT is gonna change between now and Sept 8th. But before fans get all hyped up about how much improved the 49ers will be, consider a few things:

1 – 49ers defense gave up 435 points last year (#28 defense). They’ve got the same DC (Robert Saleh) & assistant coaches they had last year. Yes they’ve added a few new players (like Kwon & Dee Ford) and drafted Nick Bosa, but I’m not seeing major improvements in their defense like I am in ours.

2 – Jimmy Garappolo ended 2017 with a 5-win streak after being acquired from the Patriots and started their first 3 games last year before he got hurt. He went 1-2 in those 3 games, with the 49ers averaging 24 PPG. Meanwhile their defense averaged giving up 30 PPG in those 3 games. Sound familiar yet?

3 – 49ers kicker (Robbie Gould) was as close to perfect as you can get last season … 33 for 34 on FGs and 27 of 29 on XP attempts. 49ers had a decent running game … 1902 rushing yards on 423 rushes (4.5 YPC). Can’t use EITHER one of those as excuses. And still the 49ers went 4-12 on the season.

No NFL game is ‘a gimme’ but the Bucs can win this one IF we bring our A-game. Come to think of it, Bucs can win any game this year IF they bring their A-game. Time will tell.

  31. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Must win game?
Koetter was 3-0 in first game of season, 4-10 in December
Arians with Cardinals was 2-3 in first game of season, 14-7 in December with 2 playoff teams and a 10-6 team that did not qualify for playoffs.

Last year Joe said Bucs would start out 0-3.
Predictions mean nothing, body of whole season work will decide the story.

  32. JimmyJack Says:

I have deemed this game a must to be at Ray Jay. This is game 1 of a new Era!!

I wanted to go with a big crowd but that will have to be later in year. Not much excitement from the fans I know for this game.

Most don’t wanna go to this game because of the heat index…..Weak!!
Me I love that heat…..the hotter the better. Thats our advantage! Them players are feeling it twice as hard with them pads. Some crumble in this heat(Jason Peter’s)…..For others they just dig harder & gain huge advantage. Give me that heat and it’ll make me get louder as a fan…….Remember your worst day in the Florida Sun? Imagine that with 75 thoudsand people yelling at you!!!

    GO Freaking BUCS Baby!!!!!

  33. JimmyJack Says:

Remember D.Mcnabb puking from the sun. Wish I would of saw it.

He puked away the game and Gradkoski led us on the last drive that ended with the famous Bryant 63 yarder.

The sun was a freaking scorcher that day. This dude sitting in my section wore a freaking helmet the whole time. He said he wanted to feel it just the same as the players do. Dude guzzled beer the whole time and was responsible for section 105(Awesome view of the FG) being the loudest in the stadium that day.

That was one heck of a loud crowd that day!!! The whole game. Made me proud to be a Tampa fan.

  34. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

This game is at Ray Jay, and San Francisco just does not have our heat and humidity. If we can keep it close in the first 1/2, we win. The 49er players will fold like a deck of cards in the second 1/2.

  35. lowercaseg Says:

Not sure what to expect but I hope we whoop ass and we’re not ass.

  36. Jeff Says:

Todd Bowles and the Bucs D baffle Jimmy G. and Evans and Howard make up for Jameis’ 2 pick day. JW throws for 3TD, 2 Int’s and the Bucs win 24-13.

  37. LargoBuc Says:

Im surrounded by niners fans at work. Lord help me if we lose this one at home.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Why would people be worried about the heat of a 4:25p kickoff game? That’s in early September, meaning most likely we still have the afternoon thundershowers, which means the game will get delayed like usual, which means it won’t be that hot. It’s not like the game is a 1p kickoff. People are wimps. Why move to FL if you can’t handle a couple of hours outdoors? What happens when the hurricane, that hasn’t hit us in 80 years, finally destroys your house? Yanks need to head back up north already – and don’t take all our gas and water with you.

So, LVD isn’t good enough for the 1997 Defense? Neither is Whitehead who is a second year player!! Vita Vea? You have dust(y) for brains and that’s being polite!
