NFL Network Top-100 & The Bucs

July 8th, 2019

Current and former Bucs have appeared more than 50 times on the annual NFL Network Top-100 lists with their various teams. We got’em all right here.

Only one Buccaneer, current or former, has ever made the annual NFL Network Top-100 Players list every single time.

That would be the newest Buc, Ndamukong Suh.

Since its first airing in the summer of 2011, Suh has appeared every year thanks to being voted in by fellow players around the league.

Last year, Suh ranked No. 61. It was his lowest ranking to date and no other current Buc was on the list last season. Even Mike Evans didn’t make the cut.

Many would say it was completely nuts to snub a player of Evans’ caliber, utterly ridiculous and one could argue other Bucs deserved to make the list, too. Lavonte David is considered one of the best linebackers in the game while Ali Marpet doesn’t get the recognition he may deserve.

Often, recognized players come from winning teams. For example, following a trip to the AFC Championship in the 2017 season, the Jaguars had six players ranked in the Top 100, more than the Bucs can say they’ve ever had in one season.

That doesn’t stop Bucs fans from watching the series, hoping their players get the credit they deserve. This summer will mark the first time Bucs fans can tune in and cheer if they see Suh come onto the screen as he has done eight times in the past.

Besides the new coaching staff, fans need more reasons to believe that this year will mark the big turnaround the Bucs have needed for over a decade.

Watching Bucs considered among the best in the league may do just that.

(The series kicks off July 22 at 9 p.m.)

The ratings are questionable, but the interviews with the players about Suh on these shows are pretty consistently in the tune of “special” strength/toughness. Olinemen don’t want to see the guy and will remember him the next day. I’m dying to see this defense.

  11. Asdf Says:
