Double Standard Of Picks

July 24th, 2019

Targeted.

Something published on The Athletic yesterday enraged Joe. It was, and is, hypocrisy at its finest.

Damn near every story you read about America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is turnovers, turnovers, turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. It’s like Jameis’ middle name is “Turnovers.”

People scream and holler, jump up and down and act like Jameis himself hacked into their checking accounts and cleaned them out. All in the name of the almighty interceptions.

So then Joe came across this sentence from Mike Sando in his story that tiers each quarterback.

Roethlisberger has thrown 43 interceptions over the past three seasons, tied with Cam Newton, Jameis Winston and Rivers for most in the league.

Now hold up! When is the last time you saw Max Kellerman rail about Ben Roethlisberger’s picks? When is the last time you saw Colin Cowturd have a conniption over Cam Newton’s interceptions? When did you last see Steve Smith have a seizure over Philip Rivers’ interceptions?

But oh, no! Jameis throws a pick and he needs to be dragged out of the Den of Depression by gang bangers and assaulted in the middle of Dale Mabry Highway.

Here’s something else to ponder: Roethlisberger, Newton and Rivers all have strong defenses to back them up. The Bucs, until proven otherwise, have such a ghastly defense Stephen King can’t even imagine.

And unlike the Bucs, the Steelers, Panthers and Chargers have not willfully ignored their running games.

Talk about double standards! Geez.

It’s almost like folks have an agenda to run Jameis out of the league, if not Tampa Bay. You think? The nerve!

  1. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Joe, you’ve inspired me!!! Jameis “Turnovers” Winston !!!!

  2. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Stat this….how many times has Jameis carried/led the team on a game winning drive….except for the meaningless win last game of the year to Goodwin that pushed the Bucs down in the draft missing out on several elite players including one of the best guards prospects in a decade…I simply can not seeing anything different coming from him this year….he is not a good passer despite his stats

  3. BrianDorry55 Says:

Ben and Rivers have a few hundred more attempts in that time frame and a lot more touchdowns. Cam has about the same amount of attempts and one less passing touchdown. When you’re primarily a passing QB though…Cam Newton’s passing numbers is not the bar to reach for.

  4. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    Where’s the comparative fumble stats?

  5. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

The defense needs to be fixed, period. Arians has shown in the past he can win without a great run game. With all these receivers you don’t need a great run game.

Can’t win with both the defense and run game being pathetic.

  6. SmoothBayRider Says:

Typical Joe , conveniently forgetting to mention the amount of pass attempts by each one . And correct me if I’m wrong , hasn’t Joe already written about how he isn’t worried about the picks , but the fumbles ?

  7. Bob in Valrico Says:

BA put it simple terms 1 INT is acceptable in a game to give the team the best chance for victory. Avoiding multiple INT’s in the same game is critical .

  8. Ndog Says:

    BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. DooshLaRue Says:

You just need to watch the games.
Jamie’s just simply has a knack for horrendous.
Yes, the other QBs mentioned threw a lot of picks, but they didn’t seem to do it with that oh so special Jamies flair, which is a combination of idiotic and bad timing.

    But oh yes JW Worshippers…….

    Never
    Ever
    His fault.

  10. Race to 10 Says:

Altered ego I’m starting to wonder if you watch games. Most games have been blowouts because it takes an offense about 2 minutes to score on us then the offense comes raging back in the second half. A better question to ask is how many games winning drives has he led only to have the defense cough it up with less than a minute on the clock, there have been at least 3 of those per year. It’s not just winston, it happened to fitz also. With these weapons I could argue we wouldn’t need a 20 mil a year quarterback if we had a defense and a run game. Even ryan Griffin would look good.

  11. Magadude Says:

Yes, yes, yes. No run game. No D. Can’t relate to the coaches. The software sucks. Looking over his shoulder at Fitz. He tries to hard. He wants to do too much. He’s young. All factors. Facts themselves and things to mitigate the other sad facts.

At the end of the day, the ball is in Jameis Winston’s hand and he’s the one throwing the pick. Period.

No free passes for Winston. Newton, Roethlisberger (scumbag woman abuser), Rivers…aren’t on our team. Screw them. And Winston is done…in Tampa as a minimum…if he doesn’t put up better numbers in that regard…the apologists are not helping this young man.

  12. Bruce's Biscuit Says:

Jameis is not, and has not, been the problem…

  13. Fire the fans Says:

Altered, how many games has he gotten us the lead at the end of the game only to has the opposing team match right down the field and score to win?

  14. SB Says:

So he is tied for the league lead in INTs and leads the league in Fumbles.

    Got it.

  15. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Race10… when evaluating Jameis I throw out everything other than what he does when he has the ball in his hands… I do understand all the other influences on the W-L record and while they do factor into the big picture of Jameis’s results I do not see him much better than what he has done so far….

  16. Ndog Says:

See this is what I don’t get. You guys say your fans of the team and want us to win yet when an article is posted that we can all rally around and say yeah their singling out our guy that doesn’t bring us together it actually moves some people to jump to want to point out that it’s wrong. You see most people that are fans of something have pride and this desire or will to defend their own when they see unjust or flat out wrong things said it done about their people/team. Nope not here in Tampa we just take the opportunity to try to prove the people that are idiots and doing/these things are correct because, well I don’t actually know why. Good question isn’t it, beat down your own and then hope (yeah right you are clearly rooting for him to fail) they succeed regardless of that. Great plan fellas and way to be supportive and prove to the world what great fans we are.

Yeah like I said before worst fan base in sports and it kills me because I’m from here unlike almost everyone else here. I actually have pride in our city, imagine that pride weird uh.

  17. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Ndog.. u funny guy… anyone that doesn’t see Jameis as you do is not a good fan…LOL … I’ve seen 250 + Buc games live and been here since the first ever preseason game and the first win in the Ole Sombrero against the Cardinals

  18. OneBuc55 Says:

    Thanks for the Facts Joe…

Yet dang near half of the fan base wants to run him off, nobody’s talking about getting rid of the other QBs on this list..Maybe it’s because of the numerous off the field issues since he was drafted by Tampa; oh wait, the Uber fiasco is the only issue he’s had since he’s been in Tampa…Hmm, what else could it be?

I said it before and I’ll say it again, this franchise needs Jameis more than Jameis needs this franchise…If the powers that be are dumb enough to let him walk he’ll be fine, the same can’t be said about the “Bad News Bucs”…

  19. batman Says:

I think the difference between Jameis and Ben/Cam/Rivers is very clear and the reason for this criticism: Those other QBs throw INTs and end up in the Playoffs. Jameis has never been able to say that.

  20. Magadude Says:

Ndog says “Yeah like I said before worst fan base in sports and it kills me because I’m from here unlike almost everyone else here. I actually have pride in our city, imagine that pride weird uh.”

Moved here when was 2yo…grew up here. College here. Off for 20+ years, back here since. City pride. Which is why anyone who wants to be the face of the team need not disgrace it and BS his way through the aftermath..but worse, is his apologists do it. That said, getting past that part…the “rally” should be to make him better, not whine about (bogus) “false narratives” and how badly and unfair Winston is treated, how all are illogical and stupid who don’t think he’s the bomb. Etc Etc. The man DOES make millions playing a kids game. Best at it or not. But for this team to get better, the fan base needs to be hard on our own to do it, or they will be gone…just like the coaches, McCoy, Djax, etc. All need to stop feeling sorry for Winston…make HIM do the work. And hopefully, Winston doesn’t feel sorry for Winston..or he’ll be done.

  21. Dapostman Says:

    Main RB’s.

Jameis Winston > Doug Martin, Peyton Barber

Big Ben > LeVeon Bell, J Connor

    Cam > McCaffrey

    Rivers > M Gordon

These other 3 QB’s have benefitted by playing with some pretty good RB’s. Winston not so much.

Without looking up any stats which team out of the 4 do you think PROBABLY has had the worst defense and/or the worst special teams the last 3 seasons?

I know, I know, I hear the WDS crowd yelling excuses, excuses, excuses!!!!

One mans excuse is another mans FACT!

  22. Magadude Says:

No one wants to “run Winston off.” That’s just stupid talk. Right now, he’s not being retained (not being kept) and will be leaving on his own if he doesn’t work some wonders. Not wanting him as our QB for any reason is not “running him off.” Good grief. And it is a totally (fair and) unanswered question if the franchise (vice team) needs (much less wants) Winston. And what a great point: Only one accusation in four years after all the other controversy as FSU s not so bad is it? I mean, every one goes around doing what he did. Everyone keeps the company he does. GTFO. Jameis needs a community to which he’s endeared more than ANY community needs him. Every time someone puts up some article or dialog on “oh, poor Jameis” it is deserving to be met with “poor Jameis nuthin…” Which is why I am saying just getting to football moving forward is best for him and for the fan base. Because if he can’t do that, nothing else matters to be considered after the fact. There will be plenty of time to lament how he wasn’t fairly compared to whoever later.

  23. Malcolm-Reynolds Says:

Ndog, you are simply NOT going to convince those with an Agenda that all the Bucs problems are not somehow Jameis’s fault. No amount of facts about horrific Defense and no running game are going to dissuade some people. “Nope, a great quarterback should be able to overcome a Terrible defense and no running game. So that just means Jameis is Not a great quarterback.” I guess by their reasoning Aarron Rodgers is Not a great quarterback. I mean he’s missed the playoffs the last 2 seasons. So he’s not elite. And how can we by those standards call Drew Brees elite since he managed only 7 wins a season for 3 STRAIGHT years a few years ago. My point is, there ARE double standards in this world. Rodgers and Brees couldn’t overcome their TEAMS weaknesses and put their teams back in the playoffs, but they get a pass. I wonder why.

  24. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

What Joe leaves out of these selective statistics is Jameis has turned it over (Interceptions & Lost Fumbles) 59 times in the last 3 seasons and only played in 40 games. While the more successful and established QB’s he’s compared to have played in more games and turned it over less.

In that same time frame Big Ben has 48 turnovers, Rivers has 50 and Newton 46. So, it’s nothing against Jameis, he just doesn’t know how to protect the ball. These are facts, look at Newton’s lost fumbles compared to Jameis, Newton runs more and hardly ever loses a fumble.

Jameis just needs to be better, bottom line.

  25. Magadude Says:

There is no “WDS”…it is a farce…a joke. There are only whiny Winston apologists…is the reality. Folks can still buy the book though, and SHOULD. I did. Read it cover to cover. It’s even already been marked down on Amazon.

  26. ben Says:

joe will try to find any excuse for Winston …love is blind!

  27. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Ndog…actually I just realized I saw the first Buc win in the Ole Sombrero and the last Buc win in the Ole Sombrero…..

  28. Magadude Says:

@Loyal…it’s not Winston’s fault. I am certain that Koetter and Bryan Glazer themselves ran out onto the field, wrestled the ball away from Winston, and tossed it into the hands of the other team.

Okay. Enough for a while. Ya’ll have fun.

  29. Ndog Says:

On ESPN they just stared they believe Andrew Luck is a top 3 QB in the NFL. Well guess what you Jameis is problem folks, Andrew Luck had exactly 1 less total total TOs (yes including fumbles) in his first four seasons playing than Jameis Winston.

Yet Luck is great and Jameis is a TO machine?

I’m I wonder why that’s the case?!?!!?!!? Maybe the same brainwashing that all of you suffer from?

  30. Magadude Says:

Yeah, that Luck. One less turnover than Winston…so only about 20 too many? Of course, I don’t recall Luck getting suspended for awful stuff, eating Ws (not so much that, but being a goofball in general), getting his WR suspended a game…after already being closely scrutinized because of shady college days. Just sayin’

  31. Bird Says:

    Ndog the hypocrite.

    How bout Hdog ?

You support the team. That’s funny. You rip into players yourself. Good riddance to fitz right? Good riddance to McCoy ? Blah blah blah.

But criticize Jameis and that is crossing the line. You are a punk / stupid / clueless / idiot. Blah blah blah. Diarrhea out the mouth.

Dude you root for the Florida State buccaneers. And You claim to keep track of who you think is rooting against Jameis. Get a life. You can’t wait to say I told you so.
I said yesterday that Jameis has chance to throw for 5,000 yards this season with all these weapons and real coaches. but without wins next to his name (cause that is how QBs are judged) and not leading league In turnovers , then how can you give 35 mil plus.

And you always claim that the yards are on pace to set record (most of times cause Bucs are down scores ). So you want credit for that

But when Bucs are pressing cause they are down scores and Jameis throws picks , that is everyone else’s fault.

Pretty sure the fans of those QBs above are confident with there qb on the last drive of game , down a few points , that they will win games. And have their biggest games in playoffs – games that matter.

  32. Bird Says:

And you claim Jameis is way better then Luck and it’s not even close.

    😂

  33. Buc1987 Says:

Look at all the haters get their panties in a wad and try to spin this article into what they want it to be….or something else totally different.

The point of the story is…no one makes that big of a deal when those other 3 QB’s throw a ton of INT’s. That’s the point. Actual facts.

I know it pisses them off. They HAVE to hate.

  34. Race to 10 Says:

Lol I get all the hate for the guy that’s so blind they cant even see it. Truth is most of you that are mad at winston are mad because of the dumb madden like expectations that came with drafting first overall. Expecting that drafting a quarterback was automatically gonna fix everything else if your own fault. Haven’t seen quarterback win much of anything without at least a middle of the road defense and that includes saints and others in our division. Falcons lost a gang of defensive players so had a horrible season and they have a league mvp…..why wasn’t he one last year lol you can win with winston you just cant win with the defense we’ve put on the field.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Man, Joe should go to Vegas more often. He is turning out so great articles.

  36. Ndog Says:

Yeah Fitz was all about himself, for example holding out after his one good year with the Jets when he was being counted on and McCoy flatly stated he wouldn’t change positions to accommodate us drafting Aaron Donald. If that isn’t selfish I don’t know what it is. So yes I will rip players that don’t care about their team or teammates more than themselves, every time. But you see Bird I actually understand sports, sorry you just can’t understand, I actually feel bad for you that don’t even know what your watching.

  37. #1bucsfan Says:

Jamie’s could have the best season of his career get us to the playoffs an the haters are just going to find something else to hate on. #3 is the most talented QB the Bucs have ever drafted. Young, testaverdy , dilfer , Williams all did better wen they left the TB area. Add a few stud o-line maybe a few on the d-line an develop the players we drafted the last several years an this team will be in good shape prob not in the salary cap but talent wise. Idc wat the media says most of them don’t watch games of Tampa cuz they think we aren’t worth the time which is fine let them sleep on us. Go Bucs #endthedrought

  38. DBS Says:

Oh look. Another poor mistreated Jameis article, Should only be about 4 Norte today.

  39. Maze Says:

You conveniently left out all those fumbles lost by Jameis

  40. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Ndog

Luck made up for those turnovers with 13 more TDs in his first 4 years than Jameis has. You can turn the ball over if you have that clutch gene and can score TDs

Jameis just doesn’t have that in him

Don’t compare Jameis to Luck it just makes Jameis look bad, really bad

  41. DBS Says:

    more

  42. Ndog Says:

Loyal you do understand that we have blown leads with under two minutes multiple times in the past two years don’t you? For example, Buffalo, GB, Atlanta, and Carolina just to name a few. You understand that if we take the lead, with under two minutes but give the lead back up we don’t win. Do you understand how that works or do you need more explanation?

  43. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Ndog

In 4 games the defense blew a 4th quarter lead in 2017 Jameis had 9 turnovers and the opposition scored 30 points off those turnovers

I posted his turnovers earlier in one score games. So what you are saying is even when he has a 4th quartet lead he turns the ball over and gives the opposition free points and great field position

  44. Ndog Says:

So in games when other QBs have comebacks they don’t turn the ball over? Dude you talk in circles just face it YOU ARE WRONG. Accept it, cheer for your team and embrace OUR QB.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

Ndog….maybe it’s really hard to see up there in section 312…

  46. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Ndog

In 3 of the 4 “blown 4th quarter leads” in 2017 Jameis had 2 or more turnovers

Can’t win with a qb who is giving away field position and free points

Like Arians said you can live with 1 turnover it’s the multi turnover games that kill the team

  47. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

I’d love to be wrong about Jameis but the last 56 games is hard to ignore

Believe it or not once Sunday comes I’m yelling screaming cheering chanting and hoping for the best, I want nothing more than wins

  48. Ndog Says:

So when the Chargers threw two picks last year at KC but won on the last play of the game that was a mirage? So you say that CANT happen, well I just gave you an example of where it did sooooooo wrong again sir.

  49. Bird Says:

    Hdog

Fitz was all about himself? Really?
    You look terrible homeslice

    Are you kidding me?
Dude. Fitz knew he was done and happily gave team over to Jameis. And supported Jameis. And didn’t divide the locker room like you claim

A class act. Always has been and always will
    You have zero credibility.

And you know sports? And others don’t? That’s funny. I think you have claimed to be a quarterback in the past. ? I’m calling major bull spit. Playing madden doesn’t count. Tell us where you were qb and what years ? I will wait ..

0dog is new name. Zero means zero street cred
The Florida State buccaneers is your team.
And you are talking about supporting the team. Yah right.

  50. Ndog Says:

Bird being wrong hurts doesn’t it, so you see I know more than what the media tells me to know I actually watch for myself. Fitzpatrick held out on the Jets after they said he was their guy after ONE GOOD SEASON which sent their entire season into a tailspin. That is selfish in my eyes and you can disagree but when you put the needs of yourself ahead of the needs of the team that is selfish in my book. In regards to when I played it wasn’t much just Jr. High and High School then of course a ton of men’s league after that, but what does that have to with anything playing is playing. Watching film is watching film I didn’t say I could play in the NFL or college for that matter so like usual you are grasping at straws cause you are WRONG and trying to distract from the FACTS. And yes I’m a FSU fan but guess what tough guy I’m also a USF fan and Lighting fan so what does that have to do with anything? I didn’t want Charlie Ward, I didn’t want EJ Manual, I didn’t want, Christian Ponder and I was thrilled with Warren Sapp and hopeful with Jaquizz Green, Reidell Anthony, Earnest Graham, Horace Copeland and Lamar Thomas. Yes I also wanted Dalvin Cook but I completely understood the drafting of OJ instead cause he’s an elite talent. You see I can see a player for what he is a not be bias, the question is can you?

  51. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Ndog

So a 1 point victory proves it’s ok to turn the ball over multiple times a game?

Look around the league man the turnover battle decides games more so than almost anything else

What you are referring to is what educated people call an “outlier” it’s not the norm it’s an exception

I know some fans don’t use logic when it comes to Jameis but until he protects the ball this will be a losing team

  52. Cgmaster27 Says:

Doens matter what stats you put up joe, clowns like doosh, ben, alter, and the rest of the troll squad are allergic to facts and like to stick to stupid arguments like hitting recievers in stride every throw. Ben and cam also have a better defense and ground game to lean on, but hey the trolls dont care about those facts either. That’s why they’re trolls.

  53. Anonymous Says:

Jamies “The apple turnover of my eye” Winston

  54. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Jameis has been the same since his days at FSU. He turns the ball over & makes boneheaded moves. Jameis is what he is. Excuses fly for jameis from lack of coaching, no WRs, no defense, no run game, etc. The bucs gm has failed the franchise in many areas, but has given him some WR options but again jameis is what he is an average qb not worth 25 mil or more

  55. bucsfan561 Says:

Ive been saying this lol.. the media is biased to who they like, jameis beeeen putting up big ben stats.. the biggest difference is the organization he plays for and the differences between the defenses.. you give jamies that defense and tampa makes the playoffs multiple times, you give him that coaching staff and jaboo doing #s

  56. Buc1987 Says:

    Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

“Jameis has been the same since his days at FSU. He turns the ball over & makes boneheaded moves. Jameis is what he is.”

    The stuff that wins Heisman’s!

  57. Bird Says:

So your example is fitz held out so he was thinking only about himself . So he is selfish and deserves to be criticized . Terrible teammate. Good riddance.

Dude. Last time I checked , the incident with the Uber driver happened … her crotch most likely grabbed… he was so drunk he was not sure what even happened ..but you know what he did .. he said she was lying ..portraying himself as the victim. He wasn’t in the car. And then his boys said he was only one on car. And they sent him home cause he was so unruly at bar.

and then he lied to the organization , GM , players and fans.

That’s is the definition of selfish. And shame on you.
But hey. …it’s Jameis. He gets a pass..it was her fault? Right ?

Again , I will ask you …do you listen to yourself when and what you are posting. I will wait …
Hdog . 0dog. Your hypocrisy sees no bounds.

  58. Bird Says:

And just so we are clear . And Put me on whatever list you want.

I hope Jameis tears it up this year and the Bucs are in the playoffs. Us buc fans deserve it. This team is close.

Is he my favorite buc. Far from it. But he is a buc and I support him.
And Drafting another qb means the team will be blown up again which means rebuild and more years of 5-11.

But trust me …he has earned the right to be criticized both on and off the field.

  59. BucsBandit Says:

My favorite ‘analysis’ ever is when people blame Winston’s turnovers and bad decisions on OUR DEFENSE.

If anything, a bad Defense should IMPROVE a player’s stats and turnovers. They gave up a lot of early points and opposing defenses start playing softer coverage and even prevent at times knowing the other team is far behind and needs to throw the ball more and try and score. So the underneath stuff is much more open than early in the game.

So if anything, it should be the OPPOSITE for Winston. He should have LESS turnovers if our D was so bad that he was always playing from behind (which is the myth we’re told).

  60. WestChap Says:

What is all the fuss about? It is true that turnoveritis is topic #1 for Jameis and not the other 3. They are all gunslingers of a sort and thus throw picks at rates Brady will never reach. The difference is that for Jameis there is no “but” followed by a list of successes like there is with Ben, Cam and Rivers. There has been grumbling about Ben and Cam over the last 3 years although its usually softened with concerns about wear and tear on their bodies. The national media certainly root for Rivers to make it to a Super Bowl given how great he has been. If a few years from now Jameis’ career includes sustained success, perhaps a Super Bowl appearance or two and maybe even a league MVP award you can bet that we who worry based on the last 4 years will sigh in relief and join in the celebration. Until that happens of course he’s going to be talked about as a turnover machine.

  61. Clean House Says:

Great article! Gang banger diva queen MeJax tried to take him out,
Cowturd, Kellerman, and Smith- three unbearable idiots.
GM here is a buffoon and should be run for utter incompetence.

  62. BucEmUp Says:

    Fans are stupid

  63. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

I am going to the 10 November game and watch 2 – 1st overall QB picks face off….Jameis has a 4 year head start on the poor fella from Arizona

  64. Pittsshore Says:

Cmon Joe you are better than this type of rookie reporting. Of the QBs listed above how many was suspended for four games and better yet how many were benched? Duh.

  65. D1 Says:

“The 2015 No. 1 overall draft pick has turned the ball over 76 times in 56 career games. Only Roethlisberger has thrown more interceptions the last four years, but Big Ben has just one more pick and 24 more touchdown passes than Winston during that stretch. Winston has won just 21 of 54 career starts and ranks in the bottom 10 among qualified quarterbacks in both completion percentage and passer rating since coming into the league four years ago. ”

Doesn’t seem like a double standard.

  66. Snook Says:

I can’t wait until the season starts. More slow first quarter/first half starts from the offense. Put the defense against the wall early. Then blame the defense when the game is over.

  67. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

    Bucs1987

That Heisman year is looking more and more like an anomaly as all his other years in football resemble his current performance

  68. El Buco Realisto Says:

Third tier, game manager type of qb that has been benched and suspended!!!! Nuff Said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. Bucsdelight Says:

They win or comeback and win. Ours doesn’t lead us to victories. When he can start winning games, then maybe he gets a pass, but when you throw interceptions, miss receivers, fumble, and LOSE games, you aren’t going to be cheered.

  70. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Turnovers include fumbles too.

In 3 years Winston has had 43 int’s and 32 fumbles for a total 75 turnovers. That’s a lot no matter how Joe slices it or justifies it.

  71. Jean Lafitte Says:

    In 3 years

    Ben 17 fumbles
    Cam 18 fumbles
    Rivers 20 fumbles

    Winston ….32 fumbles

  72. D-Rome Says:

Where to Roethlisberger, Rivers, and Newton rank when it comes to fumbles?

I completely agree with Realist that the only thing Jay-Miss has shown so far is that he’s in the bottom 3rd of starting NFL quarterbacks which are the inconsistent game managers.

  73. Magadude Says:

It just isn’t fair. Jameis has fought his way to the bottom of the pack and apologists keep trying to push him up.

  74. Jean Lafitte Says:

Winston had an average of 1.5 turnovers every single game in 48 games. Nobody else comes that close.

  75. BetterBucFan Says:

Because unlike Jameis, Roethlisberger has stayed healthy/not been benched/not been suspended. 25 more touchdowns and 2600 more yards over the same span also helps.

Look at INT rates and TD rates for a better look, because volume stats don’t matter as a comparison at all when you haven’t been starting and playing all the games.

  76. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Remember when Glennon beat Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh…

  77. BetterBucFan Says:

For a comparison of INT rates and TD rates:

    Big Ben:
    5.2 TD %
    7.56 Yards per attempt
    2.4 INT %

    Jameis:
    4.7 TD %
    7.62 Yards per attempt
    3.1% INT %

That is why Roethisberger is seen a better QB. Not even factoring in the fact that Jameis is an accused rapist and was suspended, Big Ben is better.

  78. Bnice Says:

Wow, the amount of so called “fans” in here that root against JW. People are clearly blind to the game if you dont think defense is a major reason why our team doesn’t win. Yes, JW has had a handful of terrible games but guess what people? SO DOES EVERY OTHER QB IN THE LEAGUE.

@betterbucfan Berger has been injured multiple times and had been suspended before. (im aware that what you are saying indicates the previous 4 years).

  79. BigHog Says:

The FAMOUS ONE is being set up to fail !!! You people talking about his passing game …it has improved in every year from rookie thru his forth year! Which tells me that his weapons on the outside of the offense are ok but the rest of the team sucks …we can’t substain a drive with our running game…we can’t kick a needed field goal so save our lives and on defense we can’t seem to stop a highly ranked high school team (DREDNAUGHTS) and you people should stop with the meaningless BS, every since I’ve played organized ball of any kind after winning as a team comes play good ball, to me that would mean putting up the best stats possible within the primis of winning! FAMOUS will be better this season ….I’m talking about 69 percent passer rating at least 36 TD passes thrown with 14 INT … FAMOUS blows up and grows up tho yeas …the BUCS will pay or somebody else will and win the chip in 2020 while we pick up some veteran QB in the coming off season and try to find a YOUNG QB with our late first found pick in the 2020 NFL DRAFT!!

  80. SenileSenior Says:

Can we expect the Jameis Winston performance level of his first three and one half years in the league? Or will we get the Jameis we saw for the last six games of 2018? The former is the one that he is taking all of the criticism for. Again, is the small sample of six games enough to judge where his game stands today? Will he perform that way this upcoming season or will he revert back to what we have seen before? These questions underlie much in the debates here.

We have a whole new staff of coaches from Bruce Arians on down. We have a new scheme for Jameis to operate under. We have a new untried and unfamiliar defensive scheme. We will have essentially the same offensive line and the same running backs leading the way under the new schemes.

Just how are we supposed to be able to judge how Jameis Winston and the rest of the team will perform based on what we have seen and known in the past? What will we base our predictions on?

The six games show that Jameis is indeed capable of executing at a high level. As a fan I will not only expect Jameis Winston to play at this level of competence consistently from now on but I will demand it. I choose to rely on the small, but valid nonetheless, latest examples of Winston’s play. To this I add the hope engendered by the presence of Bruce Arians, “the Quarterback Whisperer”, in order to make my judgment. I do this exactly because I as a fan want to believe. I choose once again to expect the best this year from Winston and from my team regardless of the past.

    Go Bucs!!!

  81. Bnice Says:

@senileSenior 100% with you on that man, well said.

  82. 813bucboi Says:

all i know is drew brees went 7-9 3years in a row with no defense and no run game and sean payton is 10x the offensive mind dirk is…..

after his final 7-9 season folks were talking about drafting his replacement and talking about how drew should hang it up…..

saints dedicated the offseason to the trenches and good defensive players and they’ve been on a roll since…..

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  83. Bucsfanman Says:

So, I have a really simple question. Does anyone here think that Mike Tomlin is OK with Ben throwing picks? Think Mike might want Ben to tighten up? Think it might make the Steelers’ team job easier to win games without Ben throwing picks?
The criticism of turnovers is more than fair. The difference is that the Steelers are a better TEAM and win more games.
In short: TURNOVERS MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT TO WIN.

  84. Slugglife Says:

Do any of y’all get any work done during the day?

  85. gotbbucs Says:

How many of Winston’s turnovers have come in the 1st half of games vs. the 2nd half?
I can forgive late game “hero ball” turnovers when you need to make a play and you’re down by multiple scores. First half turnovers are a different story.
Do the Joe’s have anybody that does research or do they only regurgitate other peoples work?

  86. BigHog Says:

BetterBucFan. ;Accused is the key word! Not proven !! Accused uber grabber! .Not proven but do a little research..Big Ben has done his fair share of grabbing women! Not proven!! We are al created equal …Big Ben is not a better person …some jocks do stupid stiff !! GO FAMOUS!!!

  87. Dapostman Says:

    Betterbucsfan,

I don’t think you are comparing apples to apples. Please show Big Ben’s first 4 years in the league stats vs Winston’s.

  88. BucsBandit Says:

How many HALL OF FAME QB’s were benched for poor play in the prime of their careers?

    Asking for a friend.

  89. Oneilbucs Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Patriots are looking at us laughing. Brady is on his way out and it wouldn’t surprise me if they get Jamies and win . While this fan base is blaming the next quarterback for losing while our defense is bad . And our running backs are ranked 32 .

  90. Aaron Says:

I hope JW gets it this year. I cant stomach starting over at QB

    GO Bucs@

  91. Buczilla Says:

Damn good find and I am rethinking my views on Jameis as I type this. I feel a lot better about the season now. Hopefully Jameis has this new offense down and comes out swinging. Starting all over again at qb would be brutal.

  92. Losing hope Says:

The lack of objectivity never ceases to amaze me. What about all the fumbles Joe? It’s not JUST the picks. It’s WHEN he does it. HOW he does it. In scoring position?… Sure just throw it up for grabs. 1st or 2nd down?… Sure throw wildly down the field like its ur last chance to score. Dude is an idiot Joe. Wake up and smell the Joe

  93. onetrickpony Says:

If I were JW, I wouldn’t want to stay here with everybody picking on me.
    Golly gee………
