Trust Bucco Bruce

June 25th, 2019

Big projection.

In the mind of one NFL writer, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, will have one helluva season.

Adam Rank of NFL.com is already doing team previews. Hey, we’re damn near a month away from the first training camp practice.

Rank, like so many national NFL stenographers, believe this is a do-or-die season for Jameis. However, Rank believes Jameis is up for the challenge and what tipped him off is that the Quarterback Whisperer, Bucco Bruce Arians, has embraced Jameis.

But Arians must feel good enough about it if this is who he is hitching his comeback tour to. That has to give you some hope if you’re a Bucs fan. So either this is the feel-good story of the year, where Arians finds a way to get the most out of Winston’s as-yet-untapped potential, or the Bucs are going to be drafting a quarterback in the first round next season. At least you’ll have your answer.

How confident is Rank that Arians puts Jameis on the right path? Rank predicted the MVP of the Bucs will be — you guessed it — Jameis!

If Jameis truly is the MVP of the Bucs this season, Joe will likely be able to hear the cash register at One Buc Palace ringing all the way in suburban Birmingham.

Man, I hope so. That would mean good things for Buc fans. Good things for Jameis too!

  2. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Another do or die season for Winston…….blah blah blah. The definition of “insanity” needs to be applied here. And another thought. I believe this is a do or die season for BA….yes, in his first season here. Think about it. If it’s the make or break season for Winston (break), then BA will HAVE to go into rebuild mode. Ain’t happening.

  3. Bird Says:

    We gotta trust Arians.

What other choice do we have ?
He has been the QB whisperer everywhere he has been over his last few teams – colts , Steelers and cardinals.
However , the one issue I have is that for the first time I believe he is not calling plays.

Does that mean he is really putting his stamp on being the QB whisperer for Jameis ?

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Nice to see something positive about the Bucs coming out of the national media. IMO, for the Glazers to offer Jameis an extended contract, Jameis will have to show 2 things this year: (1) improved, consistent PERFORMANCE on the field; and (2) regain the reins of LEADERSHIP on this team. The latter is the actually harder of the two.

True leadership is about so much more than just being in a key role in an organization IMO. QB certainly is a key position on any football team, but that doesn’t automatically make that player a team leader (although in an ideal world they SHOULD be). Jameis screwed the pooch with his suspension last year for sure, and that impacted his leadership role. Cost him a team captaincy for one thing. No need to beat that dead horse any more than it’s already been beaten.

But his performance on the field has also made his leadership of the Bucs suspect. True leaders get results, not only because of their own PERFORMANCE, but also because they motivate & inspire others to improve THEIR performance, and in the process help mold their group of followers into a TEAM. Gerald McCoy was unable to do that for the Bucs IMO, and Jameis has yet to show that he can accomplish it.

Adam Rank is right. This will be Jameis’ make-or-break year with the Bucs. Showing BOTH improved, consistent PERFORMANCE on the field AND regaining the reins of LEADERSHIP on this team is a tall mountain to climb, but I’m pulling for him. If he can’t do it here with BA & this coaching staff guiding him, then both Jameis & the Bucs are back to Square One.

  5. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

I believe that Jameis can have a great season, and we may still draft a quarterback. Think about it. The deepest quarterback draft within recent memory, and if you already have a good QB, you have the opportunity to bring the new guy up gradually. There’s plenty of evidence that rookie QBs benefit from a couple seasons of watching and learning.

Now you also have a huge trade chip. Either one.

  6. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Can BA block?

The downfall of the 2019 season will be the offensive line

    We will be 4-12

The failure of BA and JW3 will be lack of blocking

We wont be able to run and pass effectively because of the lack of blocking

Opponents know they cant sit back and they know the weakness of the team

    Its not that hard”

  7. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Defense will be better
    Special teams will be better
    Running backs will be better
    Team culture will be better
    Agree with Defense Rules-
Maturing Jameis must make good decisions and WIN!
Arians and Bowles will field a quality team, Jameis just needs to make plays

  8. Pittsshore Says:

I would love to see it but it is not going to happen as long as pea brain JW is the starting QB. BA has a one year excuse once JW fails again this year. He will then draft a QB in the first round and have to groom him quickly. You know the deal…. the glazer will give him three years to cash those checks.

  9. Pittsshore Says:

BA will also be the GM next year.

  10. Allbuccedup Says:

Pittshore is right. You can’t fix natural instincts. The tampa bay bucs 1st pick in the 2020 nfl draft is Justin Herbert.

  11. Allbuccedup Says:

    Adam Rank or Adam Stank.

  12. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

So a coach coaxed out of retirement is gonna Fix

    Jameis
    The run game
    The defense
    The kicking game

All in one off season? Sure, I’ll believe it when I see it

  13. Hodad Says:

In order for JW to have a hell of a season, the O line will have to do the same. Barber, Rojo, Evans, O.J.. If Suh, Vea, White have a hell of a season, JW should too. Remember it’s a team game. Everyone needs to step it up this year.

  14. Allbuccedup Says:

BA or BS we shall see in September.

  15. Mr. Lucky Says:

What is the BIGGEST obstacle for JW being the ‘top tier QB’ that we want him to be?

    A. Offensive line

    B. No ‘cowbell’ RB

    C. Turnovers – i.e., INT’s

    D. Porous defense allowing 30+ points

  16. BigHog Says:

I believe in you JW3 ..you should have been resigned already!!Go Bucs Go Shuy!!

  17. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

And Arians is suppose to fix Jameis without calling plays or coaching the QB…

Jameis is being coached by a coordinator with 9 games experience where his offense average less than 14 points per game and a QB coach who was fired from the Dolphins…

    Stop drinking the Kool Aid

  18. 813bucboi Says:

    we’ll get better….

    with that said, NO EXCUSES!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

By my count, this is JW’s 2nd or maybe 3rd “make or break” season coming up.

  20. Snook Says:

On “All In” with the Arizona Cardinals, they had a sign up in the facility that said:

    Loaf = Traitor
(Go play for the other team)

This is all BA. He’s already booted the biggest loaf in GMC. Trust in BA. He’s a real head coach. He’s not Raheem who was under-qualified. He’s not Schiano who is a college coach. He’s not Koetter who’s not meant to be more than a coordinator. We have a real head coach, people. FINALLY. Talent is always an issue in the NFL but coaching is HUGE.

  21. Joe Says:

    Loaf = Traitor

That was Brentson Buckner’s room. 🙂

  22. Lord Cornelius Says:

I mean our QBs passed for over 5000 yards last year this isn’t that much of a stretch especially if Mike Evans isn’t force fed his way to a huge campaign and we’re spreading the ball more between Godwin/Howard/Perriman/etc

  23. Pickgrin Says:

    Winston is not the problem.

Those who continually talk crap about him are extremely misguided at best.

Jameis will continue to improve as he has each of his 4 years in the NFL.

The key to turning this team from a perpetual loser into a consistent winner – will be simply getting average production out of the Defense, Kicker and Running Game.

If the Bucs can be ranked better than 20th in all 3 of those categories (points against, field goal % and average yards running per game) we are looking at a 10 or 11 win season.

  24. #1bucsfan Says:

I agree with pickgrin. Not all but a lot of Winston’s turnovers come from trying to play catch up now I’m not saying he hasn’t made some really bone headed plays cuz he deff has. If coaching is the issue the past decade which I do believe it was then our whole team will play better remember this is a team sport you can blame one player for all you GMC haters out there 1 player has never changed the whole team. the great LT only changed his defense it takes a team

  25. BucFan727 Says:

Finally got him a coach. Its about time. Hes gonna have a big year and where going to be alot better under real coaching.
