“My Bitch-To Coach”

No wilting in the heat for new Bucs coach/consultant Tom Moore

Today Joe asked head coach Bucco Bruce Arians about the newest member of his coaching/consulting staff: 80-year-old Tom Moore, who seemed to have no problem in the mid-day broil of a late-May practice under sunny skies at One Buc Palace.

What’s his role here? What’s his presence all about?

“Tom, he probably forgot more football than most of us know,” Arians said of Moore. “And the people he’s been around, from [Terry] Bradshaw and all those guys, Peyton [Manning] for all those years. Just to see things, bounce ideas off of. He was my bitch-to coach. I could bitch to him because you don’t bitch to a young coach [because] he does home and tells his wife and everybody [gets] all messed up. Tom, that’s the guy I bounce things off of and respect probably more than anybody in this business.”

Arians added that Moore is still the guy he’ll bitch to, and Moore will be with the Bucs through training camp. It’s unclear if he’ll stay longer than that.

Moore is observing in the quarterback meeting rooms now and reporting back to Arians. America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, said he has been learning from Moore and will keep their conversations private.

Man, whatever happens this season, nobody will say Jameis was undercoached.

having old football heads in the room hasn’t always made for better results, but it’s hard to challenge Moore’s track record.

after being undercoached by an overwhelmed HC (koetter), an under-empowered OC (monken), and an unimpressive position coach (bajakian), i guess they feel like they need all the help they can get to make up for lost development time. let’s hope our QB is getting consistent themes from all the guys involved in preparing him this year, instead of 5 different points of emphasis as he tries to please 5 different coaches, assistants, and offensive consultants

  3. Figures Says:

FSU nuthuggers will blame it on over coaching next. Anything to not put one shred of blame of anything on their messiah.

  4. Locked In Says:

That picture, he looks like Abe Gibron. Just need the cream-sickle polo

  5. Ryan Cannon Says:

Looks like Moore covers better than half of our d-backs.

  6. Bucnjim Says:

Here is an 80 year old Coach that has the passion it takes to get out in the extreme Florida heat but some of our past/present players do not? Draft mentally tough as well as physically tough players you may never have this problem again.

  7. Ed Says:

Veteran coaches like him are doing this for the love of the game. Most 80 year olds wouldn’t be able to physically endure what he is. I have admiration for guys like Moore, they are a great example of older people that want to make a difference working with younger guys. Like Arians said, he’s forgotten more football than most know, thats a compliment, not a knock.

  8. Allbuccedup Says:

Tom Moore was asked if there was anything about Jameis Winston that reminded him of Peyton Manning he thought a minute and said they are both about 6′ 5″.

  9. Todd Says:

I’m telling you, the Bucs are going to kick a$$ this season. The league doesn’t have any clue what’s coming. Except perhaps Bob Kraft. And his lawyers.

  10. Figures Says:

    @todd

    Lmao yea ok man ok.
    Hilarious

    i like it!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  12. tmaxcon Says:

Jameis is going to shine unfortunately a 3-13 roster with crap owners will be too much for the young man to overcome. It’s a buclife

  13. Byrd Says:

Any days of mandatory camp in June gonna be open to the fan??

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

Jameis biggest problem is being drafted to a team with a bottom 5 defense 3 of his 4 years and being expected to still have a winning record for some delusional reason by national media or portions of the fan base.

9-7 the one year we were just average on defense despite the worst kicker in the league that year and a horrifically bad run game.

Drew Brees + bottom 5 D = loser. Almost any QB is going to have a losing record with bottom barrel defenses.

Jameis doesn’t need much. Average D + Jameis Winston = winning NFL football formula for us so far.

Sadly if the D sucks again and he’s chucking turnovers when we’re down 21 in the 3rd quarter then no one will care and still blame him.

Having been a Manager and Leader of people in my career, the insight provided in this quote ‘they get all messed up’ is advanced leadership understanding. BA is in his prime and he is bringing along not only the players, but every coach as well.

    In BA I Trust!

@Lord… Man chill. You killing em. You and @Todd been saying some mean sh!t round here. Our BUCS bout to do some things proper.
    Go BUCS

@Joe: not sure if you saw this, but here is an in depth story from the Bleacher Report (and re-published on CNN) on Roberto Aguayo’s time in Tampa. I wish the kid the best.

Not one single highlight from practice on the inter web, interesting.

Yeah, because men used to be men.

  21. BucEmUp Says:

…but can the young leopard change his spots?

Thats the problem. Most people can and will change as they get older and mature. There is usually someone who gives up on them a hair too early and then someone right behind them reaping the rewards.

Jameis….hell this entire TEAM is going to ball out with Arians. Huge difference on gamedays this season. When the Bucs come back home from that away stretch there will be less empty seats than seasons past. BET!!!

  22. DRFEELGOOD Says:

Hey Allbucced up. I’m not saying Jameis is Manning, but they have some similar stats in the first four years. And I agree, as I usually do, with Lord Cornelius that IF we give him a running game and just decent, not hot garbage defense, he will shine. Imagine if we actually run the ball successfully (sets up play action) and have a defense he can trust to hold leads. I would love to see the record for Jameis had the defense held a lead in the last 5 minutes of a game. Manning, who I can’t say enough good things about, had Edgerrin James. Jameis has not. It’s both sad and funny (this is directed at Bucs fans, not you) that everyone seems to forget things like the Buffalo game two seasons ago where Jameis took us to the lead, the defense blew it, then Adam Humphries fumbled and gave them the ball back and in my opinion cost us that game. How many others have there been where someone else FLOCKED up and Jameis gets blamed. He HAS to cut down the turnovers, but I believe he will if he is not put in those positions so often. The man took FSU down the field against Auburn trailing late and won the Natty with very few seconds left. HE IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

  23. DRFEELGOOD Says:

And, may I add, if the damn kicker can make most of his kicks!! I will add the Pats game the same year where Folk blew it yet we still had the chance to win but JW’s pass to Howard was stopped short after THREE missed kicks! Damn, it’s a Buc life!!

  24. Isaac haggins Says:

I doubt many know this nor would anyone admit it but Good Ole Dungy Ball Almost got Dungy fired a second time ( Indy) but against his beliefs he released the offense and his theory’s and let Moore loose !! The results were astonishing and Peyton Manning turned the corner rather quickly !!!! The success went on for years and Dungy stayed the hell out of Moore’s Way !!! Sorry Tony but those big seasons prob had as much to do with Moore as Anybody !!!

  25. Kobe Faker Says:

“Defense will be coming after JW3…

can the Oline holdup when BA goes downfield?

The key to the 2019 offence is if BA can slow down the blitze and pass rush

Last year Hump was JW3 hot receiver…

Most offenses use the runningback and the screen game to slow the pass rush and make them pay…

We dont have a good screengame

BAs past history is he gets his QBs hurt by holding the ball too long

Big ben and palmer was killed under BAs offense..

    Dont worry Cappa and Benenoch?”

    Kobe Faker

  26. DalvinCookRules Says:

Who is the idiot who used the term “FSU nuthuggers”? (no clue what that even Fn means). If the implication is that FSU fans somehow blindly support any NFL player that played for FSU, then nothing could be farther from the truth.

There are a quite a number of us FSU fans who have been highly critical of Winston, laughed incessantly when the Bucs drafted Aguayo, and screamed & begged for the Bucs to draft the likes of Dalvin Cook and Derwin James. We know better than anyone who our great players are & who is overrated.

As far as Winston goes, I fear this coaching staff is actually going to hurt him more than help him. He has obvious accuracy issues, a tendency to make ill-advised throws, not a particularly quick release motion, and sometimes gets lazy and locks onto a receiver (fails to look off defense). Much of those things simply cannot be coached up (save the last one), so it will take a strong running game & the right mix of play-calling to mitigate those weaknesses. I don’t see that happening in this new Bucs offense–I actually see this offense putting Winston in even worse positions than Koetter’s offense, especially given the weak running game we can expect to have.

I expect Winston to take a step backwards in this offense, and I do not see him coming back to Tampa next year. I do believe that in the right offense, he can be a borderline Pro-Bowl player.

  27. Joe Says:

    Thanks Doc. Already have it.

  28. NOSBOS Says:

There’s a member of this team everyone is sleeping on. Y’all should YouTube his highlights from last season and watch this man manhandle and pancake people. The notes from today’s Bucs apps much like every time he’s mentioned, he is snatching every pass thrown his direction… BA said his name today during his presser.. Anthony Auclair..

  29. NOSBOS Says:

I especially love the one highlight at 3:01 mark where he completely bury’s luke kuehly into the dirt. Savage😠.

  30. NOSBOS Says:

What you don’t like him Joe.. Anthony Auclair name not quite Big enough for yet. Your HC says his name today and he not worthy of being mentioned here. Figures.

  31. NOSBOS Says:

I’m talking bout the man is burying starting DEs..

  32. NOSBOS Says:

So let me guess you don’t want these folks knowing he’s more than just a blocker and is said to be catching every pass thrown his direction during camp so far. They shouldn’t be aware of this hidden gem on this team???

  33. Figures Says:

    @dalvincookrules

Dude you’re not an FSU fan. No self respecting FSU fan would say such obvious truths about the messiah.

Ndog is gonna blow a gasket if he sees a fellow FSU fan not worshipping every single breathe of the chosen one. It’s in yalls handbook that you’re not allowed to level any criticism of the water walker.

    Truth is not accepted.

  34. What in the buc Says:

What if our defense is decent? And Winston plays have as good as Manning?

  35. LargoBuc Says:

How many guys who played the old Madden games named Tom Moore their head coach the first chance they got.

  36. Harry in Costa Rica Says:

    @LORD – totally agree.

I would also add I don’t think Jameis was that undercoached. That was Kotter’s focus and he is a quality OC. I think he took care of that part of his job. Where Kotter unquestionably failed is being a head coach – he did not get involved in the Defense AT ALL (hence to DB players that don’t fit into Bowles scheme and we had to draft for more athletic DBs) and failed to produce a running game. The same points you make.

  37. Crockett69 Says:

Man Joe…………..This is kick butt news. In a big way. “ACCOUNTABILITY IS IN DA HOUSE”. I hesitated for 2 seconds about re-upping my season tickets X2 but am now delighted that I did not. I feel that this year is going to blow the sheeple away. Just sayin…………
