New Sheriff In Town

May 16th, 2019

The new law.

When Bucco Bruce Arians called out Bucs cornerback Vernon Hargreaves for not having his head in practice after he wasn’t participating in underwear football Tuesday, it was proof of a new day in Tampa Bay.

Though his predecessor, Dirk Koetter, wasn’t exactly a softie, he did let some players walk all over him (Joe’s looking right at you, malcontent DeSean Jackson). Privately, behind the prying eyes of cameras and snooping noses of reporters, Koetter tried to play tough guy with Jackson. And then, publicly, he would reward him like naming him captain for a game.

At least on the surface, Arians won’t do that. Arians knew full well Tuesday’s underwear football practice was an open practice, meaning all sorts of members of the local pen and mic club would see Hargreaves working out on the sidelines in pajama pants.

And, of course, Arians had no problem calling out Hargreaves in his press conference.

Call Arians the NFL version of Grady Judd.

Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, get ready for it. Arians calling out Hargreaves is just the beginning.

Arians’ public slap at Hargreaves reminded Joe of a scene in “All or Nothing” when Arians told his Cardinals team he’s going to be blunt with them if they goof up, but it doesn’t mean he hates them.

“Last thing: You new guys, a lot of times when I’m talking to you it is ugly,” Arians said. “But I ain’t talking about you personally. I’m talking about your football. If your football s@cks, I’m going to tell you your football s@cks. I like you as a guy, alright?”

Guess Bucs players are going to learn the hard way. Don’t want your coach to call you out? Then don’t screw up.

Get your ice cream served melted around these parts. Love it

  2. Larry Says:

Vernon Hargraves is average at best. He is always hurt. He doesn’t play with the passion as a Devin White. Arians may change that but I would’t bet on it. Bucs would be better served trading him for a couple of draft choices. Statistics show that teams with really good secondary’s win one and one half more games a season that teams with a very good pass rush. At this point the Bucs are not sure what they have at either one. Hopefully it works out.

  3. Jean Lafitte Says:

Unless he’s injured then you have to question his heart. This is part of that culture that needs to change. The con has been on long enough.

  4. chopshopp Says:

The Brent Grimes attitude in that position room is still present. Hopefully, BA will slap that attitude right out. How embarrassing is it when the 2nd year guys and rooks are more Pro than the guy drafted #11.

  5. teacherman777 Says:

Lots of players play high and practice higg.

Vernon must have looked verrry stoned for Bruce to say GTFOH!

  6. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Where is this report that he was high? Is there one?
I figured it was something like he didn’t know his plays or he was goofing around like is known to and BA made him an example.
He really hasn’t done a dang thing for us though, send him to AZ with a 3rd for PP. See ya you hyena sounding MF, thanks for being a waste of a pick.
Maybe this is the wake up call he needs. VH3 and Rojo’s maturity has already been put on blast, this staff don’t F around.
BTW Joe thanks for Grady Judd, that was hilarious. My favorite line was “the only thing we didn’t see was a monkey wearing a top hat lassoing the rats”

  7. Lunchbox Says:

I hope Hargreaves figures it out and plays well this year, but if not… it sure seems like the new guys are more than willing to bump him onto the bench. And if that’s the case, you’re likely gone buddy. No one is gonna pay squat for a so-so nickel back. I know they said they wanted him to play outside, but they also said they wanted speed, and they drafted speed. And by all accounts, the new guys sure sound like they are more up to speed (no pun intended) than VH3. Just follow McCoy when he goes down the road. Y’all can b1tch about the fans giving you a hard time together. Bye Felicia.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

Koetter was like the teacher or parent who could smell it but didn’t know what it was, BA in the other hand knew what he was smelling and called him out.

  9. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

I’m from Polk Joe Grady ain’t no f%$kin joke. If Arians is half the hard a$$ they all in trouble lmmfao

  10. Piratic Says:

    @teacherman777:

I was thinking along those lines, as well.

If I could put money on it, I would.

  11. OneBuc55 Says:

The culture change is in full effect…

I’ve played sports my whole life and been around professional athletes…the game is the easy part; practice is where all the work is put in…9 times out of 10, if you have bad practice habits usually you’ll suck on game day…some of the greatest athletes of all time had legendary practice and off-season routines.

Personally I’m not a Hargreaves fan, I felt we reached for him (Imo Tunsul should have been the pick)…Vernon is a little too playful for my liking; he’s also short, slow, and injury prone… He’s really got his work cut out for him if he wants to start…

  12. Magadude Says:

Yup, it’s a “New Day in Tampa Bay”….yet again….and even the Bucs used that jingle in a commerical with that no nonsense Greg Schiano guy, who some referred to as “the Jaw” who barked “toes on the line” at his early practice. Yeah, clearly the Bucs are onto something big here with VHIII being held out of practice. Man, that is th makings of a Super Bowl team and coach. Not being sarcastic with Joe…moreso saying Arians is just another in the long list of those who come in, bringing hope that he will right the ship. Nope, not buying it. Let’s see results from the new Sheriff. He may be another Barney Fife.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Thank you Joe. Starting off the morning listening to Sheriff Grady Judd quip that “The only thing we didn’t see was a monkey wearing a top-hat lassoing rats” has already made my day. He’s hysterical.

I still say Licht needs to make a trade with Arizona: GMC and VHIII for Patrick Peterson. Straight up. They get TWO 1st Rnd picks; we get ONE 1st Rnd pick. That’s fair.

  14. louden Says:

yeah, and when the Suckaneers Roster sucks, i am gonna write it to, and blame the GM..

it’s the incompetent Front Office unable to evaluate talent and building an good Roster..

Whoever follows the Suckaneers and wants them to become the Buccaneers again should start to boycott this clown show of an “professional” team

until the Glazers decide to hire (a) intelligent football mind(s) into the Front Office, that are/is good @evaluating talent and@Roster Building..

    Fire Licht Tonight!

  15. Bob in Valrico Says:

The way it was described in another report,it sounded like Hargreaves held himself out. He’s got to prove he wants to play in the NFL.

  16. Sherman Perigo Says:

I guess vernon dont like biscuits.

  17. The Buc Realist Says:

At this point, one would be hard pressed to say who loves to be interviewed and in front of a camera more????? coach ole stale biscuit, Sheriff Grady, or she-mc?????????? Maybe instead of that phony hard-knock rip off series the bucs are trying to pass off to the so-called fans, they should just have those three do a morning talk show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And what happened to all the ” these coaches will coach them up and get the most out of them with “real” coaching”??????????????? Now the sheep just want vh3 shipped out!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. NOSBOS Says:

Snowman when BA said “he has to get his mind right to practice” said it for me. BA is very tuned into the culture of so-called African Americans, “getting your mind right” is a phrase often used in the hood when someone is either smoking marijuana or about smoke marijuana. But d@&) all that OMG😮just go get Pat Pete.

  19. adam from ny Says:

lol @ defense rules on that trade… lol omg

  20. Joe Says:

“The only thing we didn’t see was a monkey wearing a top-hat lassoing rats” has already made my day. He’s hysterical.

    Joe’s favorite:

“We didn’t choose to shoot him. He chose to be shot. He wanted a gunfight and he got a gunfight.”

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

If coach ole stale biscuit is the new “sheriff”, does that mean in the NFC South he will have to face the “CIA Director”, “FBI Director,” and the “Homeland Security Commissioner”????????????????????

    playoff records!!!!!

    ole stale biscuit 1-2
    Coach Dan Quinn 3-2
    Coach Ron Rivera 3-4
    Coach Sean Peyton 8-6

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. 813bucboi Says:

folks need to cool it with the assumption that VHG came to practice “high” or looked stoned…..

i guessing he came late or didnt have his ankles taped…you can question his skills in the previous scheme but dont question his professionalism….

with that being said, im glad BA is holding everyone accountable unlike the previous coaches…..

im confident this move by BA will help turn VHG’s career around just as much as the new defensive scheme….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

Huge pass to the coaching staff issued by the “real” Buc fans!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!

  24. Pete I Says:

Arizona fans suggest Arians has a habit for throwing players under the bus.

“Arians is a blowhard idiot that loves to hear himself talk.
    He’s brilliant—just ask him.
Always loves to hang out his players’ dirty laundry, for all to see.

I’m looking forward to watching him fail in TB.”

“the players will learn what the underside bottom of the bus looks like.”

“Another guy who airs non public consumption issues publically.
If Hargreaves doesn’t meet the standards, cut him and say that he wasn’t meeting the teams
    expectations. That’s it, no innuendo.”

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    NOSBOS

you dont know sh!t about black culture talking like that…..

athletes “get their mind right” by listening to music before a game/practice, watching film, reading books etc…..

“getting your mind right” means focusing on the task at hand….it has nothing to do with smoking marijuana…..

ive told my employees to “get their mind right” whether their black, white or Hispanic….and in no way was i talking about leave the office and go smoke…..

BA was simply saying VHG wasnt focused on winning the day…getting better…instead of just going thru the motions like he did under dirk and smitty….

in the hood, when someone is smoking marijuana or about to smoke marijuana we say “burning” or “fye up”…..

stop acting like you know what black culture is all about….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

whats dirk playoff record as HC?……

    GO BUCS!!!!

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

Drama queen sheriff from polk county loves the cameras just like bone spurs.

  28. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

If coach ole stale biscuit is the new “sheriff”, does that mean in the NFC South he will have to face the “CIA Director”, “FBI Director,” and the “Homeland Security Commissioner”

The sheriff, having jurisdiction, should run all o those federales right back outta town.

  29. #1bucsfan Says:

@813 great point. I freaking love what is going on no more of this let’s just have fun at practice an see what happens in a game cuz we know what happens can’t wait to see what happens in training camp boys #getyomindright #endthedrought #getgrindingorgetout

  30. T REX Says:

    Sheriff of Sun CIty Center

  31. Cobraboy Says:

    I’m confused.

Did Hargreaves show up ready to practice, and Arians threw him off the field?

Or did he show up just to watch, and it pi$$ed Arians off?

  32. Stanglassman Says:

He showed up high at a kite and Arians wasn’t having any of it.

  33. Cobraboy Says:

@Stanglassman: for real? He showed up buzzed? WTF?

  34. 813bucboi Says:

    cobra

    he aint show up high…..he’s a professional….

he wasnt prepared to practice….not having his ankles taped dressed and ready to go….something along those lines

if he came to practice high, BA wouldve cut him right on the spot….

    GO BUCS!!!!
