Hargreaves Off To Rough Start — With The Head Coach

May 14th, 2019

Vernon Hargreaves was a spectator at today’s practice

Vernon Hargreaves, the cornerback Bucco Bruce Arians has said he wants to lead the that position group, did not practice at today’s opening OTA session at One Buc Palace.

Joe watched Hargreaves work a little with trainers on the sidelines and stretch, but he never hit the field.

Joe asked Bucco Bruce Arians after practice about Hargreaves’ absence and the answer doesn’t smell good for Hargreaves — though it speaks well for the new Arians accountability standard pulsating through the locker room.

“You have to talk to Vernon. He’s got to get his mind ready to practice,” Arians said.

Whoa!

A follow up question further showed that things aren’t right.

“You’d have to ask him,” Arians replied when asked in what way Hargreaves “was not mentally ready to practice.”

Rough start for Hargreaves. Yeah, it’s one practice, but it’s not a good sign for a guy being looked to for leadership.

I don’t like it… I love it! PLAY FOOTBALL!!!!!! No more BS, let’s go!!!

  2. K2 Says:

There is a new coach in town. Stop playing and start working or your not going to be a Buc.

  3. Waterboy Says:

How much cap space would he free up, if traded? Hmmmm

  4. Old School Athlete Says:

It’s troubling in a sense because we need big production from VH3 this year. It’s also comforting in that what we’ve heard about BA’s demand for accountability appears to be true. I’ve read a lot of guys on here saying “same old Bucs”, “dumpster fire” and so on. I’m not ready to go there yet. I know the off-season (if there is such a thing) hasn’t been great so far, but I say let’s give this staff an honest chance before we say “same old Bucs.”

  5. Deminion Says:

BA didn’t come out of retirement to lose and pacify guys he wants to win… Mn if Koetter was here he would just sit there and breast feed guys.. #nobabies

  6. RODNEY ALLEN Says:

Old school I agree besides how many times has off seasoning seemed to be going great n then we sucked 🤷‍♂️

  7. pick6 Says:

when he talks out of both side of his mouth about players like vernon and GMC, it’s a little too gruden-esque for my comfort. he was billed as a straight shooter but he’s been quite guarded on a number of topics. i hope vernon deserved to be turned into a sideshow today and it wasn’t some misguided motivational maneuver to make an example of a guy on day 1.

that being said, the team is better off if they wind up not needing to keep vernon next year. the bucs have to be rooting for this crop of younger CBs to prove their worth, because it would save them at least $10 million

  8. Bird Says:

    What an idiot.

He Thinks this is summer camp or something ?

  9. Sherman Perigo Says:

Trade him save 2 million in cap money he’s been out as much as he’s played in 3 years.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is puzzling…..VH3 is one of the players BA called out in a positive way….saying he starts on the outside…..5th year optioned…….

But, if there is even a hint of an attitude problem….BA will smell it and deal with it.

Can you imagine him with Swaggy Baker….Djax…..ASJ….

  11. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

If McCoy was there he’d straighten his AZZ out in a Dale Mabry minute !

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

Reminds me of when Head Coach Koetter threw asj out of practice, But it is great to hear that this coaching staff is accountable!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best part is seeing how different next year’s OTA will be, when after just a few wins, and coaches on the hot seat, How the sheep will react then!!!!!!!!

The Sheep: Hey Mr. Realist, why do you call us all sheep?????

The Bucs Realist: Because they always answered when called!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

BA must being wondering what he got into down here in Tampa with the culture of losing and the worst GM in the NFL. The 2016 NFL draft will be a wash after they cut hargreaves, beneoch, and spence

  14. ButtMonkey Says:

Some people have to be kicked in the nuts even when they know they need to be a certain way. They still gotta try the old man. Smh

  15. Jmarkbuc Says:

    What?

VHIII burn a blunt before practice, and couldn’t get his mind straight?

BA gonna find out what we all already know about him.

What I have never understood about VHIII is that his dad is a coach. Most coaches son’s are the hardest working on the team…not this one.

  16. Magadude Says:

Hey, nothing happens to the QB when he gets suspended for four games and hurts his team, right? So VHIII is just following the former face of the franchise.

  17. Marine Buc Says:

Maybe Vernon didn’t watch the draft… You better get your head right real quick…

  18. BurgDweller Says:

Wow…he feels so secure about his job even when the past 2 drafts have been all bout bulking up the secondary. Talk about an over-inflated ego. Hopefully some of the young guys are more motivated and replace his lazy loafing arse so we can say bye bye.

  19. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Who was responsible for signing his 5th year option? That guy should not be running a yahoo fantasy football team let alone a billion dollar NFL one

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    accountability!!!!!!!

    culture change is coming…..

ive been your biggest fan on JBF VHG!!!!….get your mind right and your sh!t together!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  21. tmaxcon Says:

vh3bust has been a complete and utter morron since he was overdrafted by about 6 rounds…. you can’t fix short, slow and STUPID no matter how good of a coach you are. this fool has done nothing but prove to be a fragile mental midget with a ton of space between his ears. just another failed local feel good story low standard buc will cling to

  22. Nprbuc Says:

Great post Joe! That’s what I come here for. News on the Bucs and what they are doing. Don’t need yards of negative crap. Just the facts about what OUR team is doing. Ok To go negative when there is actions that require reporting. Just stay away from negs. as digs or personal objections to certain guys. You are back on a roll. Keep it up! Joe writes what Joe writes and covers the team in a way that interests Joe. The feedback, positive or negative, will never change Joe’s approach. –Joe

  23. Succaneers Says:

    Not nice..-Joe

  24. tmaxcon Says:

    pick6

gruden won a super bowl while the ignorant one dimensional dungy the clown cared more about feelings and was canned 2 years 2 late because he could not win when it matter most. nobody can waste hall of famers like dungy the clown. he had 5 legit hof famers 1 on the bucs in sapp and 4 with Indy. the bum still managed a career losing post season record. post season choke artists and pretenders never contenders that’s what you get when you spend more time worrying about meaningless community BS and feelings. players feelings are MEANINGLESS. they are paid to go to work and win. the object of their job is to WIN games nothing else matters.

  25. tmaxcon Says:

    Nprbuc

tell mommy it’s time for you medication and back to your safe space. the real world is just a little to much for your soft arse

  26. Bucs55 Says:

Some one has the Brent Grimes mentality huh mommy Koetter ain’t here no more better get his stuff right

  27. The Buc Realist Says:

LOL, word on the street is he was too baked out to practice!!!!!!!!!!! reminds me of when Head Coach Koetter threw out asj in year one!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

My guess is that he was not giving 100% during practice, and Arians made it clear, if you don’t give 100%, you don’t play (or practice).

If that’s the case, it’s a plus to Arian’s side in my book.

  29. Jean Lafitte Says:

Next, he’ll be beotching he wants out of Tampa, and he’ll probably get his way. Seems to be the norm these days in the NFL.

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Arians can earn a lot of points with me if this becomes policy (if I guessed right).

It makes sense that some players might be taking it easy…I believe Koetter’s practices were a bit too lax in order to prevent injuries (didn’t work).

Some will have some habits to break.

  31. Succaneers Says:

SUCCANEERS WILL FINISH 2-14 THIS SEASON, TAKE THAT TO THE BANK

  32. chargedcbh Says:

Not a good sign for Vernon Hargreaves but a greart sign for this team and organization!!!!

  33. AtlBuc Says:

THATS BEAUTIFUL!!!! He and everybody else will be ready tomorrow. Watch!

  34. SteelStudBuc Says:

He put a little ice on the flex. Must’ve been baked and smelling like weed.

  35. firethecannons Says:

See–this is why I come to this website, LOL! VH3 getting his ass in a sling. He was a weird guy–lots of yip and holler and finger wagging without alot of production.
I do not know what landed him in hot water but I have 100% faith in Bruce Arians to get it sorted out. Hot Damn–this is just what this team needs. No music and alot of motivation!

  36. Cobraboy Says:

How does it feel to be made an example of, Hargreaves?

  37. JimmyJack Says:

Is there a chance the dude came into TC out of shape and unprepared? This would be my guess.

If guys don’t wanna put in the work you will have a difficult time trying to win with them. Note that this has nothing to do with talent. It’s about work ethic which has probably been missing at One Buc. Don’t never let anbody tell you work ethic don’t matter, untrue in any aspect of life.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

Work ethic is more important then talent.

  39. Danglin71 Says:

BA is not about jumping around , dancing and screaming. He’s about business on the field and during practice. Does that mean these guys can’t enjoy themselves and have fun, no. He is changing this teams mentality, which has been losing without being accountable. By taking a guy that has a ton of talent and making him sit until he wants to focus on the task of winning it sets a tone for the team. It’s something that’s been missing for along time with this team.

  40. Doctor_berto Says:

Hargreaves always acting like its dance practice and not football practice. Ready for him to be gone. BUST!

  41. Doctor_berto Says:

He has that 5-star narcissistic personality syndrome

  42. OneBuc55 Says:

    It’s a time to play and it’s a time to grind…

Only speculation but maybe BA didn’t feel like Vernon was mentally prepared… Honestly imo he doe seem a bit playful and entitled for someone who’s literally don’t nothing in 2 or 3 years…

  43. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Hargreaves cut in 3……2…..1

    Not a sheep

    Not a unicorn

Not a low standard Buc fan

    GO BUCS!!!

  44. Lord Cornelius Says:

Not a good look at all. Guy was supposed to be clean off the field. Thought he came from pedigree and had a dad -coach. Those guys usually are pretty disciplined about their practice habbits but maybe he’s been rehabing on hashish too much

  45. The Buc Realist Says:

    @lord of corn

maybe once these current coaches get fired, then the Bucs can find “real” coaches to get thru and the most out of VH3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Siege the Bay Says:

I like it. He’s sending a message to VH3 and to the rest of the team. It wont be business as usual, it will be a much higher standard.

  47. Greg Says:

I just love how everyone has their opinions yet have no clue what BA was referring to. lol

  48. wausa Says:

BA is giving it to his players the same way John Lawrence demands respect from his students in Cobra Kai(great show btw).

  49. Isaac haggins Says:

Greg , It’s not a plus positive situation that’s for sure !!! So after that it is some what speculation. But it’s not Good , May be down the road but for now , we have seen the fragilness , the poor tackling, the dancing , dee smoke man,the finger wagging and getting absolutely abused like a lil be itch on the outside so , dream, wish, tie die, hug a tree, whatever you wish , It’s a Terrible Sign and they drafted how they did for a reason !!! FYI the reason is touched on above !!!

  50. JimmyJack Says:

Right on Issac. Excellent point about the draft. Easy to see that Hargreaves is not a player they have long-term plans for.

Just a quick look at the production Vernon has given to Tampa Bay & it sounds like a great plan to try to replace his position ASAP.

  51. TJ Cloutier Says:

I love this. Hargreaves has always been an immature punk. Teach him a lesson, Bruce. Hopefully he shapes up because he’s got a ton of talent.

  52. TOM Says:

If VHIII is released how does that help the cap? I think the same idiot that signed D Smith is the same one who signed VHIII.

  53. NOSBOS Says:

😁so VH in his feelings huh,a lil salty after BA hyped him in the public then turned around and drafted at his position. Told y’all ain’t no more holding anyone’s hand.

  54. Bucnjim Says:

Isn’t he the one who posted a video of himself getting high? BA I am sure had him checked out and he was told yeah coach he’s high.

  55. Bucnjim Says:

The only way to describe an adult professional not mentally ready….STONED

  56. Defense Rules Says:

@Realist … ” word on the street is he was too baked out to practice!!!!!!!!!!!”

@Lord C … “Those guys usually are pretty disciplined about their practice habbits but maybe he’s been rehabing on hashish too much”.

Lord C … Don’t tell me that you’re following Realist down that “I know something that you don’t know” street. This is apparently how BA operates; nothing new here. For JBFers, or anyone else, to speculate WHY he picked on VHIII is nothing but that: SPECULATION. I’d ‘speculate’ that BA’s action accomplished exactly what he wanted it to … everyone, including VHIII, took notice.

  57. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Defense Rules

Fine, I am not above compromise!!!!!!!!!

“Speculation” on the street is that vh3 was too baked to practice!!!!!!!!!!! and then was sidelined much like asj was when Head Coach Koetter sent him home!!!!! ( which by the way was a stronger message imo)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. Eric Says:

Way to make s good first impression.

  59. Todd Says:

@ The Buc Realist is truly the dumbest rock on the planet. ZERO substance. Just immature negative exclamation points.

As a mature individual, I wish I had moderation tights…because I’d bam him for life.

He dumbs down the conversation with ZERO value add.

@joes … make me a moderator. I’ll come in for an interview. I’ll help make this site less stupid again.

  60. Todd Says:

    rights

  61. Todd Says:

But I’d moderate with tights on too…

  62. BucEmUp Says:

HEY DIRK, SOMEONE TURNED IN YOUR BALLS TO THE FRONT OFFICE!!!! Must have been from when you realized how bad your best bud sucked at coaching defense and you couldnt man up and take control!!! Must have fell off and rolled under some old equipment and the field crews just found them.from last season.

    TIME FOR REAL COACHING!!!

  63. tmaxcon Says:

    todd,

oh and as far as a mature individual that’s pretty funny on an anonymous sports blog. let me help you with the definition of maturity individual, in context that you used…. Mature Individual = equal’s uptight libtard afraid of reality and one who can only accept unicorns and rainbows. Truth is never an option for this type of mature individual as that is far to scary!!!! dude you are condescending sniveling little punk period. I have stood back for a few weeks watching you talk down to people and you are truly a piece of work. It’s a free country with freedom of speech regardless if that opinion contradicts your option or offends your dumb arse…. everyone is a fan here and everyone’s opinion is absolutely meaningless and if you take it seriously you are in need of serious help. now It’s 2 for 1 recovering preachers daughter lap dances at the gentlemens club…

anyone that has to post they are mature or a good guy are the farthest thing from it!

joe they have the golf club tee helmet at the bar… made me think of your over reaction to winston wearing it…. maybe I can’t get a pic with one of the fine ladies wearing that helmet later this evening. oh wait the site is pc now no more girl pictures. I truly miss the panther girls you used to feature

todd were you once a Tammy???

  64. BigMacAttack Says:

Maybe his dad will call him and plumb him up tonight as well

  65. firethecannons Says:

    LOL! Bigmacattack–you right !
and BUcemup–comments like yours are why I read the comments! thx for the laugh!

  66. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

    Todd Says:
“But I’d moderate with tights on too…”
    .
    .
That’s funny because I thought you were making a statement about Vernon’s wardrobe. I didn’t know it was cool now for dudes to wear yoga pants. Like we already weren’t seeing enough junk on all the chicks wearing them.

  67. Defense Rules Says:

Realist … Compromise, really? ‘Word on the street’ is nothing more than rumor & innuendo unless it’s backed up by evidence & fact. Could just as easily ‘speculate’ that VHIII wasn’t adequately prepared enough or wasn’t hustling enough to suit BA’s taste, and that BA used that as an opportunity to ‘send a message’ to the team. He’s well known for not playing favorites from what we’ve all read.

  68. Buccfan37 Says:

Time flies except for when waiting for the Bucs season to get here.

  69. Barack's Crack Pipe Says:

    @tmaxcon
“… a free country with freedom of speech regardless if that opinion contradicts your option or offends your dumb arse…”
    .
    .
I would not have used as many adjectives to describe Tom, but it is true that the same people who used to claim to fight for fairness and civil rights are now the exact same people drunk with their own sense of supremacy and screaming for censorship.

It’s a testament to the power of social engineering that the modern day brown shirts don’t even know what brown shirts are.

  70. BucsBall80 Says:

We dont know whats going. Bunch of speculation. Id like to here his side of the story before judging the young man. He still looks young though watching his presser last week. Players come out of collage at his age now. And we all know what kind of coaching hes had. Bad. Mike Smith Bad. Players leave are team and go on to be good players.I want to see what players if any get better as the year gose on. I hope it’s important to miss practice with a new scheme, coaches and new players to build chemistry with.

  71. Andrew Says:

I wonder if Vernon was high before practice. Wouldn’t be hard to imagine
