Legend Of A Coach On Board

May 21st, 2019

Reunited.

Bucco Bruce Arians may be the father figure of the Bucs’ coaching staff. But now, he has a grandfather figure to bounce ideas off.

Out at underwear football practice today Joe had his binoculars out and noticed an old dude prowling the sidelines. Not old like Arians, but really old.

Joe said to himself, “Man, that looks like Tom Moore.” After practice Joe texted someone who would know, and yes, Joe was right. It was Tom Moore.

For those unaware, Moore is one of the best offensive coordinators in recent NFL history. Moore served as Arians’ offensive coordinator in Arizona and helped resurrect Carson Palmer’s career. Before that, Moore spent 12 years working with the Colts as Peyton Manning’s offensive coordinator.

So yeah, the guy has one helluva resume and yeah, he likes throwing the ball probably as much as Arians.

Moore also spent time on Chuck Noll’s staff in Pittsburgh as a receivers coach. You may have heard of a couple of his players, Lynn Swann and John Stallworth?

The three seasons Arians spent as quarterbacks coach in Indianapolis working with Manning, Moore was Arians’ boss as he was the Colts’ offensive coordinator.

Moore also spent time in Detroit as an offensive coordinator and with the likes of Scott Mitchell (if you can imagine), the Lions were second in the NFL in passing.

Joe was told Moore, 80, is a consultant for Arians. Moore plans to bounce in and out of One Buc Palace periodically through the season. He’s not a full-time employee.

Man, the only thing Arians hasn’t done to try to turn this franchise around and make America’s Quarterback the long-term answer for the Bucs is to bring in Manning himself in some capacity.

It’s only May.

Joe is as geeked about this as he is the Bucs on the cusp of signing Ndamukong Suh.

feel good story at best but at the end of the day nothing wastes more real estate than old people and golf courses that being said nothing can overshadow this glorious bucs day the team finally has hope….

  2. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

I mean if Peyton is willing to take an oc role(which I doubt) you kick Byron to the curb and break the bank for him. He’s probably looking for gm position so this is a moot point…or is it???

  3. DBS Says:

Guess you missed the story on Manning last night. Odds of him taking any job where an owner could fire him are none. He would buy a team first.

  4. Joe Says:

Never suggested he would be GM or a coach. Consultant? Far different animal. He can watch video of practice at home. They could send him video of Jameis’ practice and he could FaceTime with Jameis going over them.

Unless a guy is given full control of a team like Elway has, Joe doesn’t ever expect a Hall of Fame player to ever be coach. Too much work for too little pay (compared to what they had made).

I’m crying real tears of joy man. It’s like we all got released from being captives of the lollipop guild and now we’re hunting dragons with Matthew McConahey in Reign of Fire.

It’s like a real life boys to men. What shock just a few years ago we had Marcus Arroyo on the sidelines calling plays. Wow!

I’m not sure LVD or Dotson are going to be able to handle this it might be too foreign for them.

Well…well..well…reality will cross paths with McCoy’s opinion of his worth…

I wish I could be there to see this transformation of an organization.

Two living legends of offensive football now on the Bucs staff…nice!

I’m pretty sure you’re entering “old” territory.

So are you saying Jameis now has Ferdie Pacheco and Cus Amato mentoring him ?

  11. BigMacAttack Says:

Tom Moore used to run the Offense/Defense Camp in Orlando with Peyton Manning in the late 90’s. Great Coach, glad he’s here.

Quite possibly the most relevant and hilarious comment in the history of JBF. Great stuff DB55. I’ve been saying for months, these guys know exactly what they’re doing, but the neurotic panic ridden alarmist fairies that call themselves informed Buc fans just will not unplug their ears. Here’s to hunting f#@%!^g dragons!!!!!

It’s all up to Winston now. I have doubt on leftwhich mainly due to play calling but now if Tom is around with Bruce we should be good.

  14. Season Is Over Says:

Not surprising considering Leftwich’s lack of success as an OC.

  15. SenileSenior Says:

Your remark about old men and golf courses cracked me up, Tmaxcon. 😀

It brought to mind the old time comedian, Bob Hope. Story was that he tried to play a round of golf every day of his adult life no matter where he was in his travels. If you ever saw him live you would might have thought that he had formerly been a football player. He was not real tall but he was barrel chested. He did manage to live to the tender age of 100 years.
    ___________
    Go Bucs!!!

Would that not be the end of civilization?

  26. BrianBucs Says:

With everything the Bucs are doing to try to make a success out of Winston, if he has a bad or even a mediocre year next season, then he just sucks. Period.

  27. Jean Lafitte Says:

If all of this comes together and somehow the Bucs make post season play, Arians will have secured his NFL legacy and can retire on top as one of the leagues most truly successful coaches. Maybe there will even be a gold jacket after football. Not that he probably doesn’t already deserve one but this could certainly help tip the scale in his favor.

  28. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

It’s officially T-Max Tuesday with McCoy moved out the door, Suh signed and a Caddyshack quote @ Tom “Less is” Moore.

  29. Loyaltotheend Section 312 Says:

I’d love to hear Moore’s thoughts on Winston’s film from the last 4 years

  30. tmaxcon Says:

    Jonathan Limpchimpi

    glad you caught that

  31. SOEbuc Says:

Folks been saying bad coaching since Gruden is what has kept this team at the bottom of Buffalo Bill’s deep, dark well.

I’ve believed this and now things have changed for the great, especially with all of our weapons on offense but also a DC that has a good resume (as a DC).

Now this is becoming a young, hungry team that wants to win because they understand this is a good coaching squad that can show them how to win.

I wasn’t jumping for joy when Leftwich was announced OC, but I think there will be a tight leash on play calls on Sundays.

Good coaching has finally returned to Ray Jay.

Come on in boys…the water is fine.

  32. BucEmUp Says:

Best coaching staff as a whole ever assembled for this organization. I cant wait to see minimum 4 game improvment season one

  33. BucEmUp Says:

    Loyaltotheend,

Im betting Moore agees with Arians and anyone with a little common sense that leaving your qb with a 20 point deficit in the first quarter every week wont exactly help decrease his interceptions.. The guy has never ad ANY support from the defense in his nfl career and you expect im to be able to play smart and safe knowing without tons of points there is no chace of winning. . The problem is unrealistic expectations for a guy who is rowing an entire crew single handed. This will be his first season withyhe best staff the team has ever had nd now we will finally get a true talent evaluation across the board

  34. Barbosa Says:

This is without a doubt a truly professional coaching staff, made up of proven, results driven team. This is NOT a coaching staff of first timers or just happy to be here bunch of college guys that want to prove themselves in the NFL. Players will be held accountable, they will be developed and they Will be cut if not on board. I cancelled my season tickets when Gruden was fired, and for the first time in a long time my excitement for our team is backed by solid coaching and leadership.

  35. Scurvy Dogs Says:

“It’s like we all got released from being captives of the lollipop guild and now we’re hunting dragons with Matthew McConahey in Reign of Fire.”

    Underrated comment

  36. Alanbucsfan Says:

McCoy just made Arians’ motivational “Ring of Honor”

  37. D1 Says:

    Bucemup,

” I’m betting Moore agees with Arians and anyone with a little common sense that leaving your qb with a 20 point deficit in the first quarter every week wont exactly help decrease his interceptions..”

Do you actually watch the games? ( I’m going with no.)

The situation you described happened one time last year and Winston wasn’t in the game.

If it’s an attempt at sarcasm, nice effort. I say the same thing when the team misses a FGA, so take that for what’s it worth.

I agree with where you’re coming from, playing from behind is a factor in turnovers. But so is game awareness and personal awareness. I’m hopeful that Arians can get through Winston’s rock hard cranium and improves both. I think He is the best shot to do it. Because these things are far more important . If Winston is throwing turnovers when the team is behind then we have to find another qb.

  38. Bucsneedhelp Says:

Tom Moore watched the films on Jameis and was ask if you see anything that reminds you of Peyton. Moore thought a minute and said they are both are about 6′ 5″.
