“He’s In Good Spirits”

May 14th, 2019

Lavonte David talks coaches, Devin White and JPP.

Lavonte David was hit with two questions last night of pressing interest to Buccaneers fans.

And David had telling answers to both.

First, kudos to JoeBucsFan.com intern Zach Seifter for catching up to David and scoring Joe quality audio. David was attending Donovan Smith’s second-annual charity bowling benefit for Autism Speaks. Joe was there, too.

“What’s different about this coaching staff? What have you noticed that’s different about them?” David was asked by Seifter.

David paused to consider his answer for a full seven seconds, which is a hell of a long time in conversation.

“There’s a lot of urgency going on around our building,” David eventually replied.

“You know, everybody’s just ready to win, man. Everybody’s tired of what we’ve been going through. [Coaches] are tired of seeing what we’ve been going through.”

With 105 Bucs games under his belt, and now on his fourth Tampa Bay head coach, Lavonte David has seen an awful lot through his career. Joe finds it very telling that David went to the “urgency” card when comparing the Bucco Bruce Arians staff to the last regime. Heck, Koetter and his staff were battling for their jobs most of last season.

David also was asked about his junior college teammate and friend Jason Pierre-Paul, the fan favorite sackmaster who just fractured his neck in an auto accident.

David has been in contact with JPP, he said, but had nothing uplifting to add to the injury situation.

“Gotta have that next-man-up mentality and that’s what JPP would want,” David said. “You know me, I know JPP personally outside of football. So I talked to him, man, you know, he’s in good spirits. So he’s just going to prepare himself to get back to where he once was.”

On a positive note, David is enjoying being newly married and he has met with rookie savior linebacker Devin White. David said White is a “great kid” who is ready to work, “ready to prove to everybody, you know, why we picked him fifth overall.”

  1. KC Says:

Lavonte David and JPP were not junior college teammates

LVD played for Fort Scott in 2009, then transferred to Nebraska

JPP played for College of the Canyons in 2008, then transferred to USF

JPP was drafted in 2010, LVDs first year of major college football…

So, yeah, no on that “fact”… all the way around

  2. KC Says:

Oops / oh %&$%^ my bad. JPP at Fort Scott 2008, plain as day.

Someone needs an appt at the optometrist asap, and that someone is me

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

Of course there is a sense of “urgency’ around One buc!!!!!!!!!!!! Glazer’s are compiling a short list of GM’s!!!!!!! The GM is secretly sneaking his personal items from his office at the end of the day!!!!!!!! Ole coach stale biscuit is planning what to do with his free time if he “Re-retires” after week 8!!!!!! position coaches are wondering what their career paths are, after they have been fired for the second year in a row!!!!!!!!! The “truth” is that Ole coach stale biscuit talked trash that this garbage roster can not back up!!!!!!! But as always , the sheep have to see and smell garbage before they know its garbage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad he is a Buc….but if he was on a top team he’d be a NFL fan household name….hope he can stay healthy and finally enjoy success as a football player

  5. #1bucsfan Says:

  6. Cannon Says:

I envision Realist as a mad man, sitting in a meadow, shouting angrily at a flock of sheep.

  7. OldManBA Says:

LMAO at this dreamer BucsFan, once you pinch yourself pal and wake up, lol at Number 1 in the league, the dude has not even played one snap in the NFL

  8. down in the dirt doug Says:

Realist—GET REAL!!!!!!i do not like you calling Our award winning coach stale .Certainly many of your repeated statements are beyond boring.

  9. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

LVD was on the verge of being a top 5 LB in the NFL under schiano until GMC started getting his feelings hurt by schiano. The best coach the bucs have had since gruden was schiano as he had the defense moving in the right direction. Then SOHO Freeman and prolly muscle hamster and others found the columbia restaurant on soho and it all went south. Stale biscuit and his zero rebuild project is in for a long season and hopefully he just heads to his lakehouse in georgia to relax

All those who post in here using multiple ‘!!!!!!!!’, you are trying too hard. One is enough and makes the (exclamation) point. Multiples just demonstrate your post lacks substance. Save for those who continually us ‘LOL’ or ‘LMAO’.

Grow some substance. Be a bit more cerebral, please.

  11. Todd Says:

    ‘Same’

  12. teacherman777 Says:

    @Todd

    Well said.

  13. Mort Says:

How do you call yourself a Bucs fan and then simultaneously (that means ‘at the same time’) crap all over the new coaching staff before they’ve even had a single full team practice? Thats pretty stupid. Certainly not realistic.

  14. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

TODD TODD TODD!!!!!!!!!!!!! how can one call yourself a bucs fan when you crap all over the new coaching staff? where have you been the past 13 years? The bucs are a train wreck and there has been nothing done this offseason to change that. Drafting D White is a step for the future but until they erase the jason gump error and get out of the cap hell and start building a real legit NFL competitive team then we as fans have the right to not be impressed or happy about the poor state of the bucs and lack of direction. Stale Biscuit is a hipper barry melrose and that was another bad error in tampa history

  15. Chris Simms 2020 GM Says:

    LOL! LMAO!

    FIRE LICHT TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Todd Says:

    @ Dustthy

I’m optimistic because I have made the intelligent assessment that the combination of BA, TB and collective staff are way smarter than…you. I’m not ignorant enough to judge them (or their moves or non-moves offseason) based on the Bucs’ historical past.

BA will be the 2019 season’s Coach of the Year…and when he is, you’ll still be bitching about something negative with the team.

Because non-fans like you are just cancerous sivvs to any kind of constructive dialogue. You have one gear…ignorance.

    10-6 & Playoffs

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

Wonder why he played so much better under Greg ?

  18. D1 Says:

After a 7 second delay he said “urgency “!

  19. 813bucboi Says:

now, realist spends all day down in his mothers basement with his 3 cats proof reading smittys diary’s since he STILL cant find a job…..

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Todd….being happy and positive and eating ice cream and your positive “We will get em next game” approach makes the glazers pockets full. There are 2 types of people in the worlds the Doopees and the Doopers. You are a Dooper, the guy who sits down at the poker table that takes 2 hrs to figure out who the sucker is. The world needs people like you that support this crap the glazers roll out, unfortunately this is a 5-11 franchise that got worse this off season and will possibly be 6-10. PLAYOFFS!!!!!! PLAYOFFS!!!??????????? 2023 the bucs will be in the playoffs with trevor lawrence as QB and lincoln riley as the HC
