“He Is Legendary”

May 24th, 2019

Big fan of Bucs’ move.

Let’s just say this is real recognizing real.

Earlier this week Joe noticed long-time NFL offensive coordinator Tom Moore, 80, prowling the sidelines at Bucs underwear football practice. Joe dropped a couple of texts on some people and learned that Bucco Bruce Arians hired his former offensive coordinator as a consultant to monitor the Bucs’ offense and offer feedback and advice.

Moore has a rich history as a successful NFL offensive assistant dating back to his years as a receivers coach with the late-1970s Pittsburgh Steelers dynasty. And of course, Moore was Peyton Manning’s offensive coordinator in Indianapolis and later followed Bruce Arians to Arizona and helped resurrect Carson Palmer’s career.

A guy who knows Moore very well — who also has a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for building winning teams — took to SiriusXM NFL Radio this week and raved about the Bucs’ new hire.

Bill Polian, general manager of the Colts when Moore worked there, couldn’t say enough good things about Moore and what he will bring to the Bucs, as he explained to co-host Alex Marvez on “Late Hits.”

Currently, Moore is expected to pop in and out of One Buc Palace periodically throughout. Marvez asked Polian what the over/under of appearances for Moore at One Buc Palace may be. Polian suggested Moore will be no stranger.

“I would take the over on Tom Moore in that situation simply because Tom is a football junkie,” Polian said. “He loves it. There is nothing he would rather do in the world than be involved in professional football — football at any level to be honest.

“He will be a great addition and a great help to Bruce as he tries to rebuild that franchise.”

Polian gave credit to Moore for developing the three-receiver, one-tight end, one-running back set in Detroit where Moore actually groomed Scott Mitchell (if you can imagine) into one of the NFL’s top passers. Well, for a short time anyway.

“That’s his baby,” Polian said of Moore’s offense.

Polian regaled his listening audience with stories about Moore and the Colts and noted that Moore is a former Army officer and has a saying to his players that Manning personally adopted, “Stack the wounded and keep marching.”

“He is legendary within the football community,” Polian said of Moore. “He is as respected as anyone who has ever been in the game. … He is seen without question as an icon by virtually everyone in the business.”

The way Joe looks at it, Arians is leaving nothing to chance in his quest to rehab America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. If guys with resumes like Arians and Moore can’t help Jameis and the Bucs, well, at least all options are being exhausted.

“If guys with resumes like Arians and Moore can’t help Jameis and the Bucs, well, at least all options are being exhausted.”

And if they do, will you give them any credit? Or just move on to dwelling on a different kind of negative Bucs-related?

    The latter, I presume.

    Here’s a fun fact.

No QB in the history of the NFL has ever been vetted more (on and off-the-field) OR had a better opportunity to get acclimated to the league to start their careers AND noone has ever had a better support system/supporting cast than Jameis has and has had throughout his career thus far.

I think it will finally all come together now for Jameis, but if it doesn’t, at least every effort was made to help him succeed…

  3. Tom S. Says:

When I heard “He is Legendary” I immediately thought someone was talking about the career of 27-53 Jason Lichtanic. But alas it is someone with a proven history of success! Certainly Jameis is getting some great football minds in Arians and Moore which should maximize his NFL potential. That said, Jameis can’t play RG, rush the passer or cover receivers at an NFL level so it’s a moot point.

Is Todd dyslexic? You mean 6-10 and “days off” (in January) right Todd? 😂

  4. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

What does it say about leftwich as the OC? I guess Moore could be teaching byron and jameis…. what better spot than a last place franchise to teach

  5. Todd Says:

    Negative POS’s…all of ya. Mind-boggling.

  6. AlteredEgo Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Can he rush the passer ?…can he pass block ?…..

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You can be as negative as you wish….but you can’t deny that the Glazers are going all-in with BA & Staff…..no expense is being spared….over the salary cap to boot.
I think this actually may work.

Polian describes this as a “rebuild” …..BA says “reload”……it will likely end up being a rebuild when all is said and done….but a quick one.

I am expecting visible improvement this year and substantial improvement (playoffs) next year.

  8. NOSBOS Says:

😊Todd let the lame have they’re moment while they can sir. I’ve stated before all they will do after a few weeks into the season is change their tags and act as if they were always optimistic. But for now let’em do what they do.

Appreciate you for being one of the adults. I’m making my list. Those on the list are going to join me at a selected bar as we celebrate winning the division. All drinks will be on me.

The sheep are starting to ask why it took half as many coaches to revive Carson Palmer as it does knuckle headed jw3??????? Word on the street is that Tom Moore will be walking around One Buc in black face so that jw3 can “relate” better!!!!!! Now that would be leaving no stone unturned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. NOSBOS Says:

Realisto I’m lost bro. But if 3wide 1tight and 1RB is Tom Moore’s baby then Cam Brate should be nervous by the presence of this man.

EL BUCCO. I may be ignorant but your comment appears to be racist to me. If it is that – I hope Joe bans you from his site.

If it is a mistake based upon your own ignorance, please educate yourself and make amends where you can.

No more than on Todd Bowles if Dungy were hired as a consultant.

  20. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    El Buco Realisto Says
“The sheep are starting to ask why it took half as many coaches to revive Carson Palmer as it does knuckle headed jw3??”

Nice try. But the number of coaches has nothing to do with the talent of the QB, it has to do with the new NFL rules regarding limited practices.

“…let the lame have they’re moment while they can sir. I’ve stated before all they will do after a few weeks into the season is change their tags and act as if they were always optimistic. But for now let’em do what they do.”

    You are so right.

  22. T REX Says:

Todd, win the division? Sounds like you are already at the bar.

  23. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Actually Realist(o) isn’t being racist…there was an article on here not too long ago where Jameis said something to the effect of being able to relate better to an “African American” (coordinator Leftwich). While I personally have no issue with JW3’s statement I would say in today’s hyper sensitive about anything remotely racist culture that if anything Jameis’s comment could be construed as possibly being racist by hyper sensitive types. But back on thread topic, agreed with above posters that this franchise is certainly giving Winston every opportunity it possible can to be a successful NFL franchise QB. If he doesn’t succeed this year it truly is all on him.

  24. Clean House Says:

Why don’t you just focus on your job in Cleveland?
    Move on already!

  27. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Todd, I have until the 2020 draft for you to explain why as a bucs fan and how this team is assembled that any sane person should expect more than 6 wins from this team? This team is still very bad personnel wise but if you feel different head to a state with a sports book and throw some ducats on the bucs over 6.5, I already got the under

  28. Pit of Misery Says:

7-9/ 8-8 due to the schedule BUT building if this vibe continues.

  29. Bob in Brandon Says:

Soo tired of JW haters. Any kind of “D” since he’s been there? No. Let him play with the lead and the picks will dissipate. He’s the best Qb this franchise has had barring Steve Young, who only became great after his time here. He will become legendary if our defense ever holds up. Go Bucs!

  30. Pete I Says:

The “Best ” QB in Buccaneers history is not even on track to make the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay.

So ready for the season to see the new and improved Jameis OR the same old, same old… either way….

  31. Todd Says:

    Duthsthy—

If you’re too dense to credit BA and TB as agents of change, I can’t help you.

  32. Todd Says:

    Sorry…to NOT credit…

  33. Darin Says:

    Dusthty
You are one who thinks the Bucs choose from a lesser draft pool i see. How the team assembled isnt an issue. A real coaching staff is now in town. Ill save ya having to wait the whole season to pay up if you’d like. Ill take the over and u can have the under. Pay up once they hit 7 tho not at the end of the season. I hope this season teaches you the value of coaching. If not nothing will. Feel free to name the price of the bet. Im in for any amount.

  34. Oregonbucsfan Says:

Todd, that’s quite a boast. When the Bucs win the division you’ll pay for drinks all around. Why not go all the way and offer to buy Teslas for all fans when Bucs win division this year. It amounts to the same risk to you no matter what you promise.

  35. BucEmUp Says:

ErikHesson….I.woukd agree with you.on the offensive side of the ball. But please tell me you dont overlook how detrimental a historically bad defense can be to a qb with a coaching staff who is incapable of making in game adjustments and using players based on their strenghths rather than.the system.

There is a lot more to it than just the offense. A defense that allows three score deficits is no help to ANY QB!!!!

  36. BucEmUp Says:

Todd…Let us know brotha!!!!! I will order us all hats with evil sheep on the fronts flipping a bird!!!!!!!!

  37. Todd Says:

    Oregonbucsfan—

We’ll have a great time in your absence. You can go celebrate your negative losing mentality with the gay pedo crowd.

  38. Todd Says:

    BucEmUp—

    Duly noted!

  39. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Todd

You’re taking my spot as the blog optimist. LOL We can use all the help we can get.

As for your offer about a gathering for all we optimists to celebrate our success this year after the season…I’ll even split that tab with you. I love being around optimists.

BTW for Todd and everybody…what do we characterize as optimistic, realistic, or negative

IMO…11-12 wins…doable but very very optimistic

9-10 wins…certainly reachable if a bit optimistic. I personally will be disappointed without at winning record which mean nine wins at minimum. No stinking .500 seasons.

6-8 wins…not very optimistic…some realists will wish to hang on to that number as doable.

Anything less is a total failure IMO. People who keep posting 5 wins this year are the very definition of negative.

  40. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Darin your on…that right side of the OL is garbage, ps bruce arians is on record saying the offense is a very well coached team & koetter had them as a top 5 offense so your poor coaching remark doesnt hold but licht is a garbage gm who collects players no one else wants

  41. Defense Rules Says:

@TBBF … “Polian describes this as a “rebuild” …..BA says “reload”……it will likely end up being a rebuild when all is said and done….but a quick one.” Great post TBBF … I like your interpretation of what’s happening. Surely it’s a rebuild (of some magnitude) from the defensive & S/Ts perspective, and i anticipate that they’ll make substantial changes to the offense next year, with some more tweaking of the defense to go along with it.

Regarding the size of the Bucs’ coaching staff, I could personally care less. The cost doesn’t impact any of us, nor does it impact the salary Cap. One of the biggest POSITIVES to come out of it IMO is that this team KNOWS now that ownership is committed to producing a winner. Produce or wave bye-bye. There have been too many free rides for too long. The message is clear, and that’s a very good thing.

  42. Tom S. Says:

“I’m not an ignorant juvenile in my mom’s basement.” Todd! Todd! Todd! Sorry I couldn’t help myself I think of that Kiper/McShay skit every time I see your name. Actually Santa Claus (you make lists like him right?), you WOULD be ignorant if you predicted 10-6 and playoffs this year. Ignorant of the 11 seasons and counting of missing the playoffs. The running average record of 5-11 seasons over the past 10 years (look it up). You’d be ignorant of the fact that the team didn’t have the cap room to strengthen the many weaknesses on the roster. There’s a lot of ignorance in that. But make your list Santa and don’t forget to check it twice, we’ll see who’s been naughty or nice by season’s end😉

  43. Todd Says:

    Tom S—

I’m just not stuck in the past, Tom. I love everything about BA and TB…they have a system they’re implementing that will, regardless of circumstances, get us to not only a winning record this year, but the playoffs.

Now, with your sage negativism you’d like to make a wager on the Bucs over/under if 6.5…bring it. I’ll mail Joe $500 tomorrow if you do the same. Bucs win 7 or more, I get the grand…six or less, you get your $500 back.

Regarding that last part, I was just seeing if you were paying attention. You’d get the $1000.

As for the over, Joe releases the funds at the seventh win…to me. Of which I will plow back into the bar tab for those REAL FANS who are on my list…at a yet to be named bar.

You in or are you just all hot air?

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Todd may I be one your list? I don’t even want the drinks. I just wanna be one of the cool kids. I just wanna be on The List!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  45. JimmyJack Says:

Tom S. My prediction stands firm at 10-6.

My other prediction is D.Smith to win the pewtee for comeback player of the year & he will be in the ProBowl discussion. RoJo is set up to challenge him though……not for probowl but for the more precious pewtee.

  46. El Buco Realisto Says:

The only question for Todd, is if he is going to ride his flying unicorn that farts confetti to skip all the traffic to this mythical playoff game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Set the line to 9.5 and playoffs I will be HAPPY to let Joe hold the wager you silly goose.

  50. Todd Says:

    Tom—

Nah, that would be financially stupid. I’m not that. I have already bet $1000 in Vegas on the over. Just wanted to extend my win I ya with the negative blowhards.

  61. RustyRhinos Says:

Todd that sounds like good times. I agree with you Stpete, 9-7 winning season at the least. We have a tough schedule. I want to fight for our division title. We each play each other 6 times. Need to at least win 4 or better to have a chance.

Realisto … “ride his flying unicorn that farts confetti to skip all the traffic to this mythical playoff game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Oh Realist, you’ve outdone yourself. I had no idea that anyone still believed in unicorns. You’ve proven me wrong.

Succaneers … You humor me more than most of the negativists on JBF. No, you’re not a JBFer, you’re just an ‘anti’ … anti-this, anti-that, anti-everything. When you get time, please check with Realist about renting one of his unicorns. They’re supposed to be very ‘uplifting’ (yes, pun intended).

DestinJohnny … Can’t agree with ya that our talent level is ‘someplace between 25-32’. How could you possibly know that in May? To my knowledge, we don’t even know what the final roster will look like. Or what anyone else’s rosters will look like. We have little idea … at this point … how quickly our rookies (and other young players) will develop under this new coaching staff. We have no idea what injuries will happen between now and the Super Bowl. ALL of those things … and more … impact the quality of our TEAM, and it’s simply too early to even speculate IMO about what we’ve REALLY got. Think positive, at this point at least. Or if not, ask Realist to send 1 or 2 of his unicorns your way. Preferably without the farting of course.

  66. Defense Rules Says:

Oh and Todd, I’m sure that I don’t need to remind you that if you get in a peeing contest with a skunk, you’ll likely come out smelling worse than he does.

  67. JimmyJack Says:

Rusty the good news is that the Bucs have shown sorta somewhat of ability to compete with our division. Mostly losses but some where actually hard fought…..the Saints games has been a good series over the last 2 years.

The team that has always scared me(since The Realignment) is the Carolina Panthers………..Correct me if I’m wrong but 2016 was the first time we ever swept them. In 2+ decades. It’s embarassing!!

And whenever they beat us it’s always the same freaking BS. Their front four completely manhandles our OL and beats them up for 60 minutes……..It got so bad in 2017 that our OL couldn’t even stay onsides because they were scared.IMO Dirk should have been fired after that 2nd CAR loss. That was not professional football. It was physically insulting!!!

  68. BucsBall80 Says:

If you have more than one log on name. Your fake. Looking at you realistic sheep herder. I laugh at so called fans negitive crap. If they where that upset they wouldnt even fallow. Demented? Yes. Its like Therapy to those who come back repeatedly to type there negitive out look. Sad, but a true reflection of the person.

  69. Todd Says:

    Defense Rules—

I like your term “negativists”. Spot on. Summarizes the whole lot of them perfectly. As far as the skunk smell…being a Kansas country boy during my “yout”, I’m familiar. Don’t worry about me, though. I’m a Sam’s Club member and have a closet full of canned tomatoes to bathe the stink of the skunky negativists off me nightly.

    It’s a JBF life.

    10-6 & Playoffs

See you at the yet-to-be-named bar, Amigo.

  70. Tom S. Says:

Aw BucsBall80 doesn’t understand the concept that advocating for the incompetent GM to get fired and accepting that he, with ownerships blessing has screwed the pooch the past decade is something worthwhile.

If you guys were FSU fans you were probably defending Jeff Bowden when he was the OC too making a million excuses and thinking Chris Rix was going to take you to the promised land. I guess those negative “Fire Bowden” fans who eventually got a decade of Jimbo Fisher and a BCS Championship as a result of the “Bowden Buyout” were just demented huh?

  71. Tom S. Says:

    Santa Todd,

I prefer to call you guys Licht Apologists. The ones who ignore every failure and haplessly predict the next season will be the one he proves to the world he has a clue of what he’s doing. Good luck and let me know when you want to put your money where your mouth is Mr 10-6. I will HAPPILY take your money Santa Todd.

  72. Defense Rules Says:

@Todd … “have a closet full of canned tomatoes to bathe the stink of the skunky negativists off me”. LMAO … I’ve heard tell that’s one ‘remedy’ but I’ve never got into a wrestling contest with a real skunk so I can’t vouch for it. Thank heaven.

  73. Todd Says:

    Tom S—

Welcome to being invisible. This is the last post you’ll ever receive from me because you are amongst those who will delight in the first Bucs loss. 78. JimmyJack Says:

@Tom. Licht will look A-OK if Winston puts up a Pro-Bowl caliber season. Winston has some nice support around him now that Bruce is calling the shots. Last time I heard Bruce knew how to whisper too.

The Bucs will play solid football this year. That part will be fun……..And if we get good QB play……WOOF……look out bro cause My Bucs will be hell to play on Sundays!!!

    GO BUCS!!

Also, as soon as we beat the snot out of San Fran us fans will care less about your whining………..Each win after that will make your words less and less significant..

    Have Fun.

  79. JimmyJack Says:

@DR. That’s the fun part. I have no idea what moves this team will make. That’s what made the Draft a lot of fun cause I had no idea what to think when they went Bunting and then took more DBs. It was a total suprize and really made me think about the makeup of our team and moving towards a new Era. Don’t know about the rest of y’all but this off-season has been a ton of fun learning about Todd Bowels and a 3-4 defense that is foriegn to me.

  80. Tom S. Says:

JimmyJack the Bucs had a top 5 offense last year and went 5-11. It wasn’t the offense that cost the team it was the defense. If you’re going to wish for something wish for the defensive line to pressure the QB and the DB’s to cover the opponents receivers.

  81. JimmyJack Says:

@Tom. Not sure about relying on the DL to do everything. That sounds like a Tampa2 deal. But you are rightabout the defense. Last year’s D was a losing Defense.

That’s is why we hired a DC with a completely different plan all together.

It’s also why we drafted Defense in round 1 then selected defense in round 2 then got a couple more defenders later………

It’s also why we spent most of our Free agent money on defense too.

We also made our biggest roster cut on defense and followed by making a splash signing to same position.

The defense your talking about is done. And their playbook has a funeral date………Critize Bowles defense if ya want……but I’d like to see it first. Thanks.

Too bad we didn’t get that Temple DB but I think we got a serious chance to rock this year. I got us going 10-6.

    Todd,
I too err on the side of optimism, appreciate your moxie and happen to own a bar. Would love to extend a hearty welcome to you and any motley crew you assemble. I’ll also contribute by offering the first beer on me.

    In BA I Trust!
