Passing The Baton?

April 26th, 2019

Class.

Is this the soon-to-be former leader of the Bucs defense coronating the new leader of the Bucs defense?

In a classy move, Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, whose career with the Bucs is in limbo, had a nice shoutout to the newest Bucs defender, Devin White, on Twitter last night.

Who knows for sure GMC’s future outside of possibly the Bucs? There is at least one very well-connected NFL voice who believes GMC’s days with the Bucs is not over yet.

Either way, a class move by a guy who tried to no avail to get the Bucs to meaningful January games for the better part of the Lost Decade.

Booger’s favorite pick……Devin White………Who would have thunk it?

  2. Colin Says:

McCoy needs to stay. Figure it out Bucs.

  3. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Probably because Booger went to LSU…

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Bucs have NOT had a defensive leader since sapp walked out door

  5. tmaxcon Says:

    Colin

Keeping a heartless crying clown is pointless

  6. MadMax Says:

Get him to agree to 7-8 mill then cut Gholston….sorry William.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

HUGEEEEEE Congrats to @DevinWhite__40!! You deserve and have earned everything coming your way!! Be great!!

This should be the tweet from the Joes……

  8. MadMax Says:

TBBF, thats too much to expect from the unhinged …. but then again, never too late to come around redeem themselves.

  9. Buc Raybolt Says:

    Joe,

I know you’re lukewarm about this pick. I am too. Think about why they chose White. This is the new QB of the defense. He can cover TEs, get to RBs on the outside, and blitz through the middle. He’s a Swiss army knife AND has been getting rave reviews about his leadership. That’s a huge void on our defense right now. I’m still iffy on it, but it makes sense and hopefully elevates everyone’s game.

  10. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

It’s Sad they can’t be enthusiastic about landing a stud at a position of need.

  11. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

What was supposed to happen on the site if we drafted white? Are you a man of your word? Doubtful..

Jk LDK. Just try to promote Our guys instead of sulk about another teams player. The Sky ain’t falling, yet.

  12. firethecannons Says:

    Well done so far–excellent pick!!!!!!!!

now let us load up on some Jaylon Ferguson edge

  13. Blackmagic00 Says:

@Joe, it’s alot more than what we need. We got best at position, absolute position of need and probably the most important is leader of absolute need! We basically, theoretically landed three players in one. I’m so optimistic about this pick.

  14. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete (formerly known as 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans) Says:

Such a BRILLIANT PICK by Bowles/BA/Licht.

… We just drafted our best defensive player (potentially), and some people are whining…

He will be one of the best defensive players in the entire NFL almost immediately…

    Better than Keuchly.

  15. SenileSenior Says:

I don’t know what the story on Jawaan Taylor is yet. Cody Ford and Dalton Risner are a couple more OL possibilities potentially. For DL there are still Jaylon Ferguson and Dre’Mont Jones to name a couple. How about a list of potential DBs?

Can Licht and guys come up with a great decision for our second pick this time?

    Stay tuned.
    ___________
    Go Bucs!!!!!!

  16. Greg Says:

Devin White has been called one of the best linebackers to ever play at LBU, so at least we are getting an immediate impact player. Wouldn’t surprise me though to find out later Licht didn’t even look into Josh Allen thinking he’d never fall to five!

  17. Greg Says:

ESPNU showing replay of LSU vs Alabama where White was suspended for first half, White not looking too good, just got trucked by a Bama RB. He looks fast as hell, but more like unvectored thrust running all over the place.

  18. adam from ny Says:

hehe “unvectored thrust running”…bingo that’s some funny lingo!

    #WeDraftedAnUnvectoredThrustRunner

  19. ManzielMadness Says:

Tell you what there’s gonna be some good prospects available in the 2nd round… Greedy Williams, Cody Ford, Dalton Risner, Jawaan Taylor, Zach Allen… don’t get cute Licht.

  20. BucEmUp Says:

Mccoy has likely already agreed to a restructured deal and didnt show up to camp on ourpose to convince other teams they would not take Devin White. Time will tell

  21. Hodad Says:

Time to clear the path for our new defensive leader, and send McCoy packing. I don’t want this doll playing softie on the team for free. Nine years he’s been the face of some of the softest defenses in Buc history. Move on already!

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Bucemup

I had the same thoughts. Wonder if the McCoy saga has all been a ruse to cover the Buc’s draft plans?

Wonder what White’s leadership will mean? It takes the pressure off of LVD who is just not a vocal leader…great player but not a fiery leader. If we keep GMC that monkey goes off his back as well.

  23. Reach87 Says:

I’ve said it before, McCoy is getting older and time catches up to everyone. His production (tackles and sacks) have been down. BUT…calling McCoy soft is balderdash and played out. Zero credibility when you do that. None. Go Bucs!

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

Wherever McCoy lands, he will be just fine. Ask former Bucs like Dungy, Doug Williams, Dilfer and Countless others who moved on and still did very well, Haters…..You can’t keep a good man down.

  25. wideleftandright Says:

GMC until last year had zero freaking help for the greater part of his career. .JPP and VITA VEA were a godsend albeit a year or two too late .
can you imagine ,JPP,Gmc while younger together along with Vita Vea and Nassib..?

  26. #1bucsfan Says:

Yes yes McCoy has bin on a bad defense for a decade now hit last time I checked one player doesn’t make the whole defense suck an just like wide left said he really hasn’t had much help so everyone can call him soft but I guarantee everyone calling him soft wouldn’t even go near the trenches. Just a bunch of smack talkers with nothing better to do. If we did get rid of him where’s the depth what happens if vea goes down we going to rely on Golston an Allen haha some of y’all don’t think before you type you really should
