  1. Herb Says:

Tom, there is not much to add to your comprehensive report. There was a time when I would have called McDonagh the MVP of this team. And then to see him fade was sad to watch. For me the end of the season came when Erik Cernak got bitch-slapped by Washington’s Tom Wilson. Our “enforcer” lost a tooth and hit the ice, and that is when the whole team realized they weren’t as tough as they thought they were. A couple of guys tried to step up over the ensuing weeks, Point, Cirelli and Paquette, in his way. But everyone else just sorta stood around not knowing what to do. Johnson and Palat tried to help, just by playing hard. I wish Callahan could take a “youth” pill and keep playing like he does. Kucherov needs to be more professional. And what is there to make of Vasilevskiy? He got the “rest” he needed, but he still looked spent towards the end of the season. Cooper says the team didn’t play a meaningful game the last month of the season. Or was it he didn’t coach a meaningful game?

So, we know Detroit is going to be better next year. Boston, Toronto, Montreal and Florida are all improving. I think the days of the Lightning winning 60 + games are over.
