Awards For 2018 Season

February 17th, 2019

Gone but not forgotten.

We are two weeks from the end of the 2018 season and the good folks over at FootballOutsiders.com decided to hand out their awards for the just-completed season.

And the Bucs were not left out in the cold.

The site, which largely traffics in numbers, has unusual awards as they make sure both winners and losers receiver well-earned hardware.

Joe will offer the categories where representatives of the Bucs were finalists for various awards.

Who is your choice for the 2018 Keep Choppin’ Wood Award (player who most hurt his team, either on or off the field)?

Winner: Jacksonville QB Blake Bortles.
(Bucs CB Brent Grimes came in seventh-place with 0.7 percent of the vote. Former Bucs RB LeGarrette Blount, now with Detroit, came in sixth-place with 1.7 percent of the vote.)

Who is your choice for the 2018 Keep Choppin’ Game Film Award for the most ineffective coach (head coach or coordinator)?

Winner: Hue Jackson, Cleveland head coach.
(Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith, now an AAF game analyst for NFL Network, came in fourth-place with 3.4 percent of the vote. Former Bucs coach Chucky, now with Oakland, finished in second-place with 20.2 percent of the vote.)

Which of the following teams is most likely next season’s surprise Super Bowl contender?

Winner: Cleveland.
(The Bucs finished with the fourth-most votes pulling in 7.3 percent of the votes.)

Joe is very surprised Grimes got dragged into this. Easily the winner for the Bucs in that category should have been malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Joe hopes Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has learned a lesson here: Never sign a player that not even Bruce Almighty in Washington wants.

Looks like Santa got a haircut and a beard trim

  4. macabee Says:

Look no more! I found Bucs former DC Mike Smith. He’s was in the booth at the AAF game last night with former Bengals coach Marvin Lewis on NFLN. Lol. #lostandfound

  5. Leighroy Says:

Buc believer you ain’t kidding! Thought the exact same thing… at least he’s got a side hustle available in retirement?

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

Jw3 must have not had enough starts to qualify for the “2018 Keep Choppin’ Wood Award”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Pickgrin Says:

At least DJax put up some good #s early in the year.

Grimes didn’t do squat for the $7M he stole from the Bucs in 2018. His best game was the last game of the year when he was playing for “pride”…

  8. Loyaltotheend Says:

    Mike Smith was the worst

    Dude never changed never adapted

    Awful coach

  9. Bucnjim Says:

Jackson had decent games Grimes had a decent game as in 1. Plus saying he isn’t paid enough to cover someone will get you an A$$ award every time.

  10. Dewey Selmon Says:

    He look like Brett Favre.

  11. BucEmUp 7 Says:

Looks like the plastic tim allen from the santa clause 3. Said the day he was given the job three years ago that he would be the reason Dirk Failed. Rather than.firing him after one or.two bad seasons he dragged it out past the bye week.of a third.

So happy this team.has the first true,
proven coaching staff since Dungy. i feel bad for anyone who has to listen to Mike Smith and Marvin Lewis individually let alone at the same time pretending to.know what they are talking about…..morron

  12. BrianBucs Says:

What about the Dumbass Of The Year award for getting yourself suspended for the first 3 games of the season?

  13. TOM Says:

Like the dumbass award. Bucemup7, if your going to call someone a moron at least spell it right. Kinda takes away from your comment.

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Chris Conte got injured are he’d be a shoe in, after all he’s already on their all-decade team. Also I think Ryan Smith is so bad, and has been so bad for so long, that they’ve just given up on bringing up his name every year as he was playing less and less and I guess they didn’t want to kick him when he was down.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

    BucEmUp & TOM

I had to speak up on this since I’m the message board leader and we know from the GMC haters how important having a self appointed leader is and how, without one, you’re doomed to fail. So I took on this leadership your two posts and here’s my verdict.

As your leader I’m pro-name calling, it’s called trash talking, and this is a sports website so you should talk trash and call people names, it’s part of the fun of having a back and forth. Now I stink at spelling, and since it’s a message board I rarely take the time or effort to bother to check my spelling, in particular on mobile. However, there is an unwritten rule that if you’re going to insult people or call them names, you MUST spell the insult properly. Every other post can look like it’s written by a 3rd grader, but the post with the insult has to be checked for errors or you have to take a big loss on that debate.

So sorry BucEmUp, while I appreciate your comments, you must take your beating at the hands of TOM and all the other bandwagon riders that will jump on the “you can’t spell moron” debate.

    Them the rules.

    Your leader,
    Rodney Munch

There’s always an idiot spell checker in every internet tread…they should get a life…lmao

  17. unbelievable Says:

Not hard to believe Grimes was brought up, when he admitted he wouldn’t cover a #1 receiver cuz he didn’t get paid enough (despite being the highest paid corner on the team)…

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

Rod- On Conte, while I agree there are better safeties out there, our defensive secondary was noticeably worse when he departed. It’s not his fault that he was the best safety on the team.
Thank you for taking “a leadership” role in addressing insults. Trash-talking etiguette is a lost art form.

  19. Old School Athlete Says:

Myke Smyth wuz uh tarrabul koatch

  20. BucEmUp 7 Says:
