“The Concerns Off The Field Are A Waste Of Time”

January 28th, 2019

Supported.

Yes, Joe’s at the Super Bowl. As usual, Joe’s scoping out various off-the-radar NFL voices to offer insight on the Bucs.

And as usual, Joe plans to hound former Tampa Bay players at “Super Bowl Media Night” later Monday for their two cents on the Bucs.

In particular, Mark Barron, Adrian Clayborn and Aqib Talib will be thrown into the middle of thousands of media types tonight and left to fend for themselves. It’s always a good time.

Today, Joe ran into ex-Falcons offensive lineman and Atlanta-based media personality Jamie Dukes. The former NFL Network talking head is very bullish on the marriage of Bucco Bruce Arians and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

In particular, Dukes is fed up with the people who try to paint Jameis as some form of social monster.

“The concerns off the field are a waste of time,” Dukes said. “He is a great young man. We’ve all have had our stumbles. He’s a great leader. Teammates rally to him. And Bruce is one of the great quarterback teachers that is in the game. He is going to do a fantastic job working with [Jameis] helping him to grow as a quarterback.”

Dukes is also of the mind that if malcontent wide receiver DeSean Jackson stays with the Bucs, Arians will set him right.

“If [Jackson] is still there, Bruce will work all of that out,” Dukes said. “All of that is going away. He will take care of all of that.

“Bruce is a great leader of men. He knows how to talk and communicate with players and get everybody on the same page. He will design plays to extenuate the abilities of Fraction Jackson.”

Joe really would be shocked if Jackson, on the final year of his contract, is brought back. But if Jackson is, Joe guesses that would signal the end of Adam Humphries in a Bucs uniform.

  1. DayOnePaul Says:

We all know better Joes. Hump is a Buc man, long term. Fraction Jackson (wish I’d come up with that…it’s perfect for him) is a hired gun, about to be fired for having no gun.

  2. BucTown Says:

So what you’re saying is that Jamie Dukes doesn’t know sh*t.

  3. tmaxcon Says:

every receiver on Bucs roster has MORE UPSIDE than hump. the love affair with mediocrity continues… bucfan led by joe is terrified of talent and personalities. let’s keep the mediocre players and continue to run talent out of town while collecting basement titles

  4. Wesley Says:

Most of us have done worse at that age, doesn’t make him the man he becomes.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

jameis has been a model citizen for 3 years and a great teammate on a mentally weak team. those hanging on to jameis character related issues would find fault in mother Theressa and are just jealous ignorant sad souls…. yes i am talking to you robert, ben and the rest of the jealous babies. jameis is the most important buc of all time. accept it and love it….

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

Two settlements and a nfl league suspension says otherwise!!!!!! And we all now know that “all teammates rally to him” is not true at all, and it was more than just the wr that said it in the media last year!!!!!!!!!!!!

2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. tmaxcon Says:

    The Buc Realist Says:

nothing in 3 years realist… I can’t go that long without offending these soft PC pansy ARSES in this world…. 3 years is a good start. the entire metoo movement and gold diggers going after men has proven to be a joke considering hardly any charges were filed against any of the alleged evil men. settling lawsuits means nothing…. it’s the American way everyone sues someone in this lazy get rich quick society. work ethic died decades ago… it’s all about viral gig economy with no ethics nor loyalty.

  8. Buccernutter Says:

    Tmax

You are so unbelievably dumb and annoying. You literally post more than Joe.

Tmax’s roster needs all 5 star, pro bowl athletes or else everyone is just mediocre. This guy literally thinks rosters should be like fantasy football or else the team is trash.

    You’re so weird.

  9. Bobby M. Says:

His own team removed him from the side of the stadium….Nike dropped him…..He’s settled two cases now and the league has suspended him. His teammates decided he wasn’t the right person for a captain. Those aren’t few haters….Its the team owners, corporate sponsors, NFL commissioner and his teammates.

  10. Loyaltotheend Says:

Dukes went to FSU so he’s not unbiased in any assessment of Jameis this is confirmation bias at it worst with the Joe who is covering the Super Bowl but not watching it

  11. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

his last situational happened 3 years ago!!!!!!!!…lol…c’mon man….

stop throw sh!t on the wall hoping it sticks!!!!!!!!…..

team mates did rally around him!!!!….if the incompetent HC formally know as dirk wouldve rallied behind him instead of playing musical chairs with his QB’s, glazer may have waited until monday morning to fire him instead of sunday evening!!!!!!!!…lol….

BA will further expose you and dirks staff in 2019 by winning with his players!!!!!!!!!!

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  12. Loyaltotheend Says:

Besides a losing record what has Jameis “led” the Bucs to? This silly idea he’s a great leader is moronic when he wasn’t voted as a captain and hasn’t lead the Bucs to anything at all

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It is correct that we likely cant have both Jackson & Humphries……we have some serious cap issues that many seem to ignore.

I am a Jameis supporter but I am not willing to dismiss his off-field behavior as a “Waste of Time”……no player’s off field behavior is a waste of time……it’s part of being in the NFL and being a role model….

  14. 813bucboi Says:

CBSsports has q.williams going #1…..lots of teams falling in love with him…..

    #2-san fran- n. bosa
    #3- jets- j.allen
    #4- raiders- r.gary

#5- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- ED OLIVER
Ed Oliver, DT, Houston. What’s Gerald McCoy’s future in Tampa Bay? Either way, Oliver, considered a top-five pick during the college season, would be a steal here.

i hope we draft him or q.williams and are able to restructure GMC…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  15. miken Says:

no way can you pay hump big money. Hopefully, his market is soft and he takes a hometown discount. Hopefully if he goes, its out of the South.
I honestly think #3’s off the field problems are a thing of the past but to sit and say it will never happen again and question why is he being painted as a monster? If he is guilty of what he was accused, he is. I know fans want to minimize, but how many starting qbs not named Benhave had those alligations? The acts described, make you a felon. Most starting qbs go to schools and give money away, not settle law suites and serve suspensions. On the field, we are going into year 5 and we are still talking about growing and becoming a top half qb… ugh. We also wasted the cheap starting qb contact so some bigger contracts will have to go.

  16. Dewey Selmon Says:

I believe Jameis is done with the off field issues. Problem will be if someone falsely accuses him of anything he will not get the benefit of the doubt. His reputation proceeds him.

  17. tmaxcon Says:

    Buccernutter

Am I in your head little man…… I guess you are still but hurt that I am never wrong and that you have no standards at all…. you would not recognize a talented football player if you tripped over one.

  18. miken Says:

starting wr next year will be 13, godwin, cheap fa signee, watson, andwilson.
Brate, djax, and 2 or 3 d lineman will have to go

  19. lambchop Says:

Warrick Dunn himself said 3 needs to stop the rah-rah stuff. The looks on teammates’ faces when he went wacko jacko on the “Eat the W” schtick was cringe worthy. I hardly find a unanimous slam dunk of support from his teammates.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

    lambchop

And how many super bowl rings does warrick dunn have?????

stop living in a failed past

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Can’t we all just get along?

  22. Buccernutter Says:

That’s something no woman will ever say. That you’re in her head.

Na dude you’re just on my computer screen. That’s the only place u ever go.

  23. Dapostman Says:

Geez Winston has not reached his potential as a QB nor as a person. Winston was drafted as a 21 year old knucklehead without a mentor and thrown to the wolves on a bad team for 4 seasons. He has stayed out of personal trouble for 3 years and has done his time. It is time to look forward and see what the future holds. Living in the past will keep you in the past. The past is not a good place for Buc fans.

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

Jackson has talent and that’s what matters. If he’s not here next year, it’s because Arians couldn’t make it work.
Hell must be freezing over because tmax and I agree! DJax is only a “diva” because we stunk. If we went 10-6, nobody would bat an eye and you know it.
It’s akin to the argument about a certain player not wanting to play a certain position. Bullspit! You do what best for the team or pack your bags. That comes from strong leadership, something lacking here for a long, long time.
Hump is a nice player but the question is whether you want to break the bank for a #3/#4 WR?

  25. Dom is gone ... Licht Says:

[Jameis was suspended for violating a league policy. Not for any sentence rendered by a court of law. Claiming any Bucs player committed a felony can and will get you run. Tread carefully. — Joe]

  26. Robert Says:

Just wow. This guy mst be Ted bundy

  27. Jeagan1999 Says:

How can any intelligent person NOT worry about “concerns off the field” with someone who has the track record Winston has? Maybe Jameis will be fine from here on out….but based on past behavior, that’s no guarantee.

  28. Not there yet Says:

See this is why you are called haters, some of you are haters and some of you are just dumb. FSU settled out of court so that means no one should ever go to that school again maybe you prefer to send your kids to Baylor or Penn State. Your ignorant or just an overall piece of garbage if you are the same person now that you were at 21 and should just give up on life. It happened after his rookie year and it is simply a false statement to say that he was guilty of anything and your just a hater saying police covered it up. You don’t have to be guilty to be subject to a civil suit. I believe he did something stupid with the Uber driver which all started with riding in the front seat.

He stopped drinking at 22, very few of you knuckle heads can say that you went to those lengths to improve yourself at that age but who can say they got accused of assault against an Uber driver

  29. Dark Mominick Says:

If hump doesn’t stay he will playing in the super bowl next year with the pats

  30. tmaxcon Says:

If hump doesn’t stay he will be playing in the super bowl next year with the pats

he also could be selling insurance with Glennon and Murphy

no one worships mediocrity like a bucfan… try falling for a winner once in a while.

bottom line Watson and bobo both have ten times the upside that hump does and are much cheaper…. talent wins super bowls not popular mediocre players.

  31. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Tmax

I’m surprised you’re a fan of Jackson and don’t think he’s mediocre considering how many passes he bailed on from your boy Jameis Winston LOL.

“3 years as a model citizen”

Wow I hope we are all lucky to go as long as 3 whole years without getting accused of heinous crimes, stealing crab legs, or touching our Uber’s LOL

But I actually agree with you. I don’t think Jameis will be an issue off the field, he can throw as many interceptions as he wants in the comfort of his own home. I just thought that 3 years statement was pretty funny.

  32. tmaxcon Says:

You people constantly bringing up criminal and assaults towards winston are doing a tremendous disservice to actual assault victims. The pansy arse PC police and cause of the day libtards do far more harm than good… huge difference between unwanted advances and criminal sex assault. If you fools are too blind or ignorant to see the connection with previous gold diggers attorney then you have bigger issues. Winston is a victim of an insane PC movement…. you same people have rendered racist and biggot meaningless terms by tossing them around without merit now criminal and sex assault are heading same direction

Just wow. This guy mst be Ted bundy

Unlike cancer93 at least bundy was a finisher….

  34. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Jackson >>>>> Humphries

    Bye humphries!

  35. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

If Jameis is Ted Bundy then you MUST BE David Duke👻

  36. tmaxcon Says:

    Nole4JabooANDdBucs

    Well said lol

  37. BucEmUp 7 Says:

No way in hell I let Humohries go for Jackson…..NO WAY!!!!!

Humphries and Donavan Smith need to be retained for sure.

Hoe long is Nassib under contract???? He needs to stay as well

  38. stpetebucsfan Says:

I think JW realizes his situation. He had strike one with all the Tallahassee hijinks and strike two in Arizona. One more strike and he’s gone. He knows this and loves football so I believe he’ll walk the straight and narrow and avoid strike three.

I used to be worried about his off field activities but no more.

  39. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

I forgot about Dukes…obviously not on NFL Network anymore. I like what he says here. Flies in the face of many Buc-bashing media types. Good get, Joe!

  40. westernbuc Says:

[Previosly you did not state “could have.” Any time you claim any Bucs player committed a felony unless the guy actually stood in front of a judge can and often will get you run. Joe was just in a good mood. — Joe] Hopefully America’s QB didn’t do it.

  41. BuccaneEric75 Says:

#7423, Humphries for 4 years is better than Jackson for 1. Humphries loves Jameis, Jackson hates him. You see where this is going, right?

  42. BringBucsBack Says:

It’s the type of irresponsible statement that Dukes makes here that leaves the H.S., college & professional athlete feeling like the world is his oyster and he can do no wrong. They have been hearing and experiencing this phenomenon since middle school and it does not align with reality! This is why we have such immature “college graduates” that make it into their late 20s (often later) before they stop acting like an entitled teenager… arrested development personified!

The Bucs better be worried and they better have a plan B because, it only takes one more woman to come forward.

    …Just ONE more woman!

  43. tmaxcon Says:

    BringBucsBack

You mean it takes one more gold digging skank with an agenda dont you?????

  44. T REX Says:

Eat more W’s. Wow. The guy who said he was removed from the side of the stadium…suspended…not named a captain…and benched has it spot on.

Taking advice from an fsu homer on Jamiss is stupid.

    Don’t be stupid.

  45. tmaxcon Says:

Nobody fears personality and talent like low standard bucfan. All this love for a mediocre number 4 receiver wit ZERO upside is pretty damn entertaining

  46. Noles Says:

    T max

Doesn’t matter if other WR have more upside than Hump bc he shows his upside on the FIELD… where it matters most. Not fast but always open… not big but ALWAYS makes contested catch. IMO the team needs to keep GAMERS like HUMP bc Winning teams have players like this woven all through it. Not Grimes & Jackson’s

  47. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Draft OLinemen that can play
Build an effective running game that is part of weekly game plan
    Protect the qb better
Wins will come and past will be forgotten
All of last year’s coaches are gone.. there is hope

  48. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

“People” did not paint Winston as a social failure. He painted himself. When someone reveals to you who they are….believe them.

  49. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

Not There Yet Says “your dumb”…..no comment necessary. Regarding “3 years he’s been a model citizen” etc…..Ummmm, he LIED to his team mates, his coaches, and front office about the Uber groping during this “model citizen” period.

  50. OneBuc55 Says:

I agree with Dukes; Winstons “off the field issues” is fake news…

He’s still never been arrested in his life yet Baker Mayfield is on video drunk, running from the cops, resisting arrest, and getting tazed….yet this is never brought up…God forbid if that was Winston in that same situation…That’s America for you, everything is Black and White…

  51. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

I love how Winston defenders use the “well, look at the other guy!!” line….That isn’t defending Winston. That is placing him in a group of less-than-model citizens. And appropriately so.

  52. Loose Stool Says:

Do they put the Winston banners back up at the stadium this year?

  53. Anonymous Says:

    ^^ Yes.

  54. ben Says:

Winston is rated the 20th best qb in the nfl with all those good receivers..after 4 years !!.. so who wants below even average? ?? (no excuses needed)

  55. Tval Says:

    Hahaha. Haters…..GALORE!!!

  56. Buc727 Says:

I’m tired of the NFL being judge and jury. If a guy is not convicted of a crime, or at least charged with a crime, he should not be punished by the league, period. These guys are not paid and we do not pay them to be saints. They are paid tp play football and “entertain” us, period!

  57. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

    Buc727….riiiggghhht.
