Round 6 For John Lynch As A Hall Finalist

January 3rd, 2019

Made the cut

There’s been enough love to make John Lynch a Hall of Fame finalist for four consecutive years, but not enough votes to get him to Canton.

Will the sixth year be the one?

Lynch is a 2019 finalist, it was announced this evening. That means JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman will present Lynch before the 48-member panel the day before the Super Bowl.

There are 15 annual finalists and five typically get the votes needed for a bust in Canton. Among the 2014 finalists, Lynch is the only player not in the Hall of Fame, including kicker Morten Andersen.

Lynch is a long shot with many big names ahead of him like Ed Reed and Tony Gonzalez. Hopefully, the growing respect for safeties who played in hard-hitting eras will benefit Lynch.

Brian Dawkins was a first-ballot Hall of Famer last year, and Kenny Easley got in back in 2017.

Bucs icon Ronde Barber, in his second-year of eligibility, did not make the finalist cut. He was a semi-finalist this year and last.

I hope he makes it but I’m not optimistic.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

Never had a INT returned for a TD as a Buc….just a trivia nugget

  3. Slugglife Says:

Give that man his yellow jacket or volunteer to catch one across the middle in front of him.

  4. Dewey Selmon Says:

He might not make it as a player but could in the future if the 49ers kill it in the coming years. Player/GM might do it. But i agree with Slugg^

  5. Buc4evr Says:

Ronde and Sim are more deserving, but hope he makes it.

  6. StoutGospel Says:

Look Ronde…is NOT John. They are not comparisons.

John is just shy of whom I feel is the best safety of all time, regardless of Strong or Free…..

RONNIE LOTT. That dude, is what’s up. I don’t care who you neophites argue with. There’s RONNIE, then, there’s others.

John, watched ya. Lived ya. God bless your great values and knock their lights out mentality….A-MEN. See Steve Atwater.

John Lynch should be in first ballot.

    And WE need JOHN Harbaugh!!!

  7. DooshLaRue Says:

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

Great guy but I really wish I could care

Tony Dungy changed the hall of fame to the hall of very good… Lynch should get in.

  10. Loyaltotheend Says:

Ira don’t strike out like you struck out with Maureen Birkowitz back in Brooklyn

  11. Fire Light Says:

Lynch should be a HOF player. No doubt about it.
