Quick Turnaround?

January 8th, 2019

Bucs have players.

Joe senses one reason the Bucs look like they will hire a 66-year old coach is they believe Bruce Arians can quickly jump-start what has turned into Cleveland South of the NFL.

The Bucs have been a miserable team for too long. And clearly, Arians won’t be around here long. He’s a short-term fix, not a long-term solution.

Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com seems to think the Bucs have the horses to do just that. In a recent podcast of “Around the League,” Rosenthal suggests the Bucs were not as awful as their record.

“It’s not a terrible roster,” Rosenthal said. “I know this is one of the worst franchises in the league. They’ve only had one winning season in a long stretch. But it is not the worst roster out there. They’ve got some players.”

And one of the best one-liners Joe has ever heard of was then spoken by co-host Chris Wesseling when he asked, if a coach had his choice of three openings, why would he voluntarily subject himself to staring at the Bucs’ uniforms on a daily basis?

Wesseling seemed to believe the Tampa Bay uniforms are so awful that they could chase away a coaching candidate.

Just some inside baseball here, but the walls and hallways of One Buc Palace are full of action photos with players wearing the current maligned color scheme. So even though there are no players around and they only wear practice jerseys when at One Buc Palace, there is literally no escaping the uniforms each and every day from the moment one steps foot inside One Buc Palace.

Please go back to the ‘76 uniforms! Go BUCS!!! Bucs4Life!!!

  2. HeavyE Says:

Or better yet the ‘92 season with the Orange pants!!!

  3. james west Says:

go back to the uni’s of the superbowl era and the throwback creamcicles

  4. james west Says:

changed the uni’s and cursed the mojo

  5. Cannon Says:

Hire Bruce, bring back the previous uniforms, and win games.

  6. AlteredEgo Says:

Never go BACK !….totally new uni’s !!!….gezzo pezzo….you guys have an imagination ?

  7. Buc4evr Says:

How about just fixing the current uniforms. Get rid of the digital clock numbers, make the flag on the helmet smaller, and add black to the uniforms. Easy fix.

  8. zzbuc Says:

Dude, you can say whatever you want to say about this franchise, but when you say all those negatives remarks you have to consider we won a Super Bowl, so there are 13 franchise out here that never won it, so lets try to be a little more balanced on the remarks…..So MR Rosenthal think twice when you say “I know this is one of the worst franchises in the league¨

  9. 813bucboi Says:

    short term fix….lol….

so thats all the die hard fans deserve…a short term fix with no real long term solution in sight….lol….

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#KRISISTHEPICK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  10. '79Defense Says:

Great point by Wesseling. Damn… those uniforms are just awful and the Glazers know that the fans don’t like them. How in the world did Nike come up with that crap?! And it was approved?!! The circus big top jersey and that cartoonish, huge logo on the helmet just doesn’t do it. The five years are up.

Please go back to the previous uniforms and just enlarge the helmet logo from that one just a bit and you’re all set. The fans would love it and be so appreciative.

  11. Lubby Smith Says:

“Cleveland South” is better than “Arizona East”

  12. Big Tay Says:

I want more of the all red color rush and please bring some throwback orange jerseys!!

  13. Pugs&Bucs Says:

Just make the red color rush jersey the permanent home jersey paired with white or silver pants. Then make the same jersey style but white for away. Think “Ohio State clone.” That kaleidoscope-shoulder-triangle nonsense with different colored shoulders is ridiculous. You really get the feeling that the jersey was done by committee and they tried to appease everyone in the room.

    @Lubby Smith: No. It isn’t.

  15. Ray Rice Says:

Wear whatever you want. Just get the dam W!!!

  16. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

This team is a number of players away and I hope when arians comes here he takes over personnel decisions from dunderbox licht. The team needs DBs, DL, LB, OG, LT, RT and a RB. cleveland is a well built team with a strong defense and a great running game

  17. Rayjay1122 Says:

I agree with the just win whatever uniforms you wear. I will say though that the previous uniforms were just fine. Why fix or change something that isn’t broken?

  18. TexBuc Says:

    Dear Jason Licht

If my vote counts please fortify the trenches.

    Thank You

  19. Buc50 Says:

Never should have changed from Superbowl uniforms but with new contract, it was bound to happen.

  20. Darin Says:

Bucco Bruce Arians. Cmon Glazers. Back to the uniforms we grew up loving. Please!

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I miss the old font the Bucs used on the uniforms. It was more pirate-like.

I don’t think there is any chance of returning to the old uniforms. First, no one does throwback any more.

Second, you can’t ask Nike to imitate Rebok.

So a new uniform is the way to go. Something that combines the red and pewter with the creamsickle orange.

Isn’t it odd though, that the losing started when these current uniforms arrived?

  22. Pete I Says:

    28 Houston Texans 272 121 151 0 .445 2002 AFC South
    29 Jacksonville Jaguars 384 170 214 0 .443 1995 AFC South
    30 Atlanta Falcons 816 358 452 6 .442 1966 NFC South
    31 Arizona Cardinals 1,346 553 753 40 .426 1920 NFC West
    32 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 676 260 415 1 .385 1976 NFC South

Well the bucs are dead last in Winning percentage – but the 4 slightly better teams don’t ave a trophy so…screw it we are an awful franchise be we did win a super bowl…and without Jason Licht or Jameis Winston…

  23. Blackmagic00 Says:

The current unis would be absolutely fine if we could win games. Jus’ sayin’

  24. __TGH__ Says:

Some people’s idea of ‘tasteful’ or ‘class’ is astonishing.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So far as a quick turnaround, I do believe it is possible…though I question whether Bowles can turn the defense around.

I disagree that we need more on the oline, outside of depth. Wester, Cappa and Liedtke are all going to be great players. Fans just need to accept that players need time to develop. You can’t have instant elite at every position…usually at no position.

I think CB will work itself out, but we need some bridge players and a good draft pick there.

Depending on the injuries, we might be fine at LB. We just don’t know yet.

And Safety is already addressed. It just needs a little developmental time.

And finally, the defensive line is fixed. JPP and McCoy are the vets. Nassib and Vea are great and getting better.

So it really mainly comes down to RB and CB…and coaching.

  26. doolnutts Says:

I feel like I have been hearing this same story for at least 10 years now LOL… I guess we look pretty good on paper just play like garbage when the lights come on…

  27. Bucsace Says:

Bring back the old orange uniforms with the orange pants and do some graphic work to update the Bucco Bruce helmet logo

  28. Joel Says:

Definitely go back to the white and orange uniforms. Its a classic. And it matches the current state of our franchise.

  29. Zam Says:

Quick turnaround? Let’s take off the rose-colored glasses: Arians was 7-8-1 and 8-8 his last two seasons at Arizona. Lovie Smith came here from Chicago with an 8-8 and 10-6 season and look how that ended up.

It’s all about players, and Licht doesn’t know how to build a good team.

The really dismal truth is that nothing’s going to get better as long as the idiot sons keep running the show. The uniforms are a good example. Is there a single decision that they’ve made correctly in this century?

And don’t say Winston. If you listen to national broadcasts, the only 6 people in the country who like Jameis Winston seem to work for joebucsfan or post on this site like lunatic sheep. You think anybody wants to come play with him, particularly after Desean Jackson’s experience?

  30. rob Says:

    Arians and Foles = playoffs!

  31. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

@ Joe Could you guys (the Joes and Mr. Kaufman included) please make a sincere plea to the Glazers to get rid of those hideous things that they refer to as jerseys. There are tons of Tampa Bay jersey designs online that they can check out. They can do a poll and have the beloved fanbase pick out the way we want our team to look and be represented, cause those things are a bad joke on our fanbase. Please stop the madness. Save those for their soccer team abroad. Thanks in advance. Go Bucs !!!!

  32. Pickgrin Says:

The current uniforms are JOKE! a very bad joke.

    Fix the uniforms GLAZERS!

And yes – there is a good bit of talent on the roster. Young talent! Much better talent than 5-11 the last two years would indicate. Which is exactly why Dirk Koetter and most of this coaching staff is GONE. And why Jason Licht is still in charge of football operations.

With a few solid additions via this years draft and free agency – the Buccaneers are ready to make some NOISE in this league…. IF they can get the right leader and a good supporting cast of coordinators and position coaches.

Bruce Arians brings ALL that. I don’t even care if he’s only the HC for 2 or 3 seasons – we long suffering Bucs fans are STARVED to see a good product on the field.

Bruce is the right man for the job – right here – right NOW!

NOW is all there is. The future will always work itself out when you make good decisions in the NOW!

  33. BringBucsBack Says:

Ditch the alarm-clock numbers and replace the red with burnt orange, as the primary color. Red is everywhere. Burnt orange is very rare.

Oh yes, bring in good coaches, players and fire the owners and GM!

  34. Bucsfanman Says:

    One word on the uniforms:
    ZUBAZ!

    Get r’ done!

  35. Bojim Says:

We have bigger problems than uniforms ya know.

  36. Buc50 Says:

@Bojim it’s just a side conversation. We aren’t gonna solve our defense or running game in any of these threads.

  37. SOEbuc Says:

    BringBucsBack

Even though I’m a diehard Longhorns fan, I don’t feel burnt orange fits the Bucs well. I would love to bring back Super Bowl original reds and pewters, but those shades are two dark for these days. We need lighter shades for the yearly record breaking heat. Complete throwback of 1979’s! Look up Ricky Bell photos. The best of the throwbacks.

  38. SOEbuc Says:

    @Joe

You have a huge fan base of true Bucs fans and I think Bucs officials probably know that when it comes to media. After all this new HC stuff slows down, you should put out a bunch of articles on new jerseys. Also tell Bucs officials, “Many fans are very upset with the Bucs uniforms. Do you plan on addressing that? Many are suggesting all kinds of original throwbacks whether they be creamsicle or red.”

1979’s. So many great pictures of Ricky Bell.

  41. ClwJB Says:

ditch the digital clock font from 1983 so we can actually read the numbers from the stands…

as to the new HC hire that appears imminent, BRAVO!

if nothing else, we will know if JW is truly a franchise QB
