Bruce Arians “The Perfect Coach?”

January 28th, 2019

Talks Bruce Arians.

How well does new Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians fit the team? An NFL talking head has the answer.

It seems if there is a coach that can turn around a franchise, smooth the warts on its starting quarterback and bring juice to the fan base, it is Arians.

That’s the word from the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio. Speaking on his weekday morning show intelligent football fans monitor on NBC Sports Network, Florio told co-host Chris Simms, the former Bucs quarterback, that Team Glazer belted a homer with the hiring of Arians.

“That’s what they needed, Chris,” Florio said. “If you are going to keep Jameis Winston in a time they literally cannot give tickets away, you need someone who is going to give the entire franchise a kick in the butt and get them excited and get them motivated.

“Whether that is dropping an f-bomb in a press conference, whether it is putting on an eye patch and putting a sword in his mouth, whatever it takes. This guy is going to be entertaining. For right now — and I don’t know how long he will stay — but for right now, he’s the perfect coach for the Buccaneers.”

Joe thinks Florio is onto something. Arians is the kind of coach Bucs fans crave. They love a coach who is a cartoon character on the sidelines, who gets in players’ faces and stomps after refs. It is why Chucky was so beloved — and still is.

Yeah, former Bucs commander Greg Schiano was the same personality, but to be a combination of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman and Yosemite Sam, you better win. Chucky did. Arians has. Schiano did not.

    Schiano got screwed

  2. Jean Lafitte Says:

2 years with hardly any say about personnel.

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

I don’t know??? I don’t think that the real fans need nor crave animation on the sidelines!!!!!! If that is the entertainment some are looking for, then the game of football is not what they are there for!!!!!!!!!!!

And is this the right coach for the Bucs, or the right coach for the QB????? is this the right coach for the GM and his draft picks?????? It is a very “real” possibility that this could be the right coach for the Bucs with a different QB and a whole different roster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2019 season will reveal answers to the sheep, that the “real” fans already know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Locked In Says:

I’ll say this about Schiano: He sure ran a mean kneel down defense

  5. Robert Says:

Schiano did get screwed, but this seems to be a great hire.

Provided he can succeed without jameis the crabman. I know his plan is too fix him, but he might want to change his tagline

    no friskit no biscuit

  6. Couch Fan Says:

I personally dont care about the sidelines stuff. Yea that makes everything more entertaining but I just want a competent coach that knows what hes doing, knows how to consistently have his team prepared, motivated and can follow the flow of a game and not be stubborn and continue to do idiotic things when its odvious to everyone else what we need to do.

  7. Couch Fan Says:

And yes I agree Schiano did get screwed.

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“2 years with hardly any say about personnel.”

    ———–

Are you freaking kidding me? Schiano is the idiot who didn’t want Michael Bennett and Aqib Talib, among others. Sometimes I swear people just make stuff up and expect to not get called out on it.

  9. Jean Lafitte Says:

Like Schiano said, every play should be contested. Although it never happened, what if on one of those kneel downs they forced a bad QB exchange and a fumble occurred and they could recover for one last hail Mary or a FG to win or tie the game. He would have been dubbed a hero and Coughlin would have looked like a dunce.

  10. Jean Lafitte Says:

    Hawaiian

They were the root of the problem, and while you attack me and call me nasty names, Schiano’s defense played well without them. so f.o.

  11. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Didn’t same talking head insinuate that one less than stellar year could mean goodbye to Bucco Bruce…a week ago at most? Perhaps he is syndicated on CNN ? I certainly like and agree with this take better. Well done, Florio…and keep quoting and promoting the Joes…the deserve the mentions.

  12. Jean Lafitte Says:

and he didn’t pick them either, he inherited them

  13. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Hawaiian Buc

Why was Coach Schiano the only Bucs coach that started Bennett for 16 games!!!! Then talk show dominik had the medical staff fail Bennett so he could crow bar in his draft picks for playing time!!!!!!!!!!! Pay attention!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Robert Says:

bennett is a moran who got lucky enough to be traded to a top defense

talib as well, got traded to a team that takes people on their last chance

it was straighten up of yer done time for talib, although he was tralented. bennett was good, but still not worth the trouble….w/o the seahawks line he’d be avg. above average at thuggin, but average at football

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

    give it up man!!!!!!!!!……dirk failed!!!!!!!…smitty failed!!!!!!……

the glazers tried getting an HC for the QB…..and it didnt work!!!!!….dirk set this team and players back years!!!!!!!!…..some players like spence may never recover which is sad because the kid has talent!!!!!…..smitty never developed him!!!!!!!!…..

this time around, glazers hired a HC that will develop the “team” and winston will benefit from it!!!!!!!!!!

BA will win with the same team dirk had last year!!!!!!!…further exposing you and that incompetent staff!!!!!!!!!

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  16. Bucsfanman Says:

I swear, Florio needs medication. He literally cannot make up his mind.

I think Arians is the right coach at the right time…..or, at least I hope.

  17. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

Realist why do I feel u would rather be right(which ur not)than have the bucs actually winning meaningful games 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  18. Kalind Says:

    Locked in. Well said sir.

  19. The Buc Realist Says:

    @RODNEY J ALLEN

Why do I feel u would rather be watching rainbows and unicorns that fart confetti!!!!!!!!!!!! Its not about being right nor wrong, but seeking and talking the truth!!!!! Do you get mad at thermometer when it tells you it is hot outside????? it is no more or less than the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    rodney allen

realist rather have back to back to back 5-11 seasons vs admit he was wrong…..lol….

luckily for us, glazers ordered dirks U-HAUL mid DEC……lol…..

realist is just mad because he had to help pack not only smitty’s U-HAUL but dirks as well…..

BA will further expose dirk and realist once he wins(this year) with players dirk and smitty failed to develop…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  21. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

either dirk nor smitty are HC’s right now at any level!!!!!!!

is that truth enough for you that they both sucked?……

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

If Schiano got screwed why can’t he get another gig?

DC for Ohio State was a great stepping stone for him but he didn’t impress Columbus at all especially after Baker Mayfield CRUSHED his D in the horseshoe…and Schiano claimed his dline had better players than he had seen here in Tampa. C’mon Greg who was the Gerald McCoy in that line. It seemed like GS was in line to be Urban’s successor…so much for that.

So now he’s got a spot with his old bud Belichek. Let’s see how he works that one after failing at OSU.

I really believed GS would be an excellent college HC…perhaps I was grossly mistaken after the fiasco in Columbus.

  23. Not there yet Says:

Dude finally came to his senses after all the craziness he was speaking the last couple of weeks since the hire

  24. Bob in Valrico Says:

Dirk did one last favor for Bucs fans by benching Jameis. Somebody had to get through to him that turnovers contribute to losses. As for Dirk and Smitty’s coaching status, I will point out that Lovie Smith got a contract extension after a four win season. Anything’s possible !

  25. Tbbucs3 Says:

I’ve been going back and watching some of the Bucs hard knocks and I noticed that Dirk Koetter had a Atlanta Falcons helmet in his office, why would you rep a division rival at the team facility even if you previously coached there. I wonder if he will take a Bucs helmet into his new office in Atlanta? I’m guessing not. Just proves that Dirk was never all in on the team.

  26. Jean Lafitte Says:

who leaves the Bucs and gets another gig? The only coach who won a super bowl and that was ions ago

  27. Jean Lafitte Says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Schiano takes over for Belichek

  28. Todd Says:

I hate this time of year. We collectively have NOTHING to really talk about to garner page views…Schiano got screwed?

  29. BucEmUp 7 Says:

Someone sure has a fettish for sheep

  30. Denny Says:

Realist, do you understand the uses of punctuation marks? One question mark is usually sufficient.
Gheez man give that keyboard a break.

2 years with hardly any say about personnel?

Schiano got rid of too many great players. Talib, Winslow, and others. When you do that, you’d better win!

  32. Brandon Says:

Schiano got screwed? He hired Mike Sullivan and Bill Sheridan…. Sheridan took over a Super Bowl winning Giants D and they put up all time worst rankings on D. Sullivan was terrible, Sheridan still is… Schiano hasn’t proven he can coach even in college since then. He wasn’t screwed. He was exposed.

  33. Owlykat Says:

Schiano couldn’t even get hired at perennial loser Tennessee. He ruined our potential franchise QB who won 10 games in a Buc’s season just in order to bring in his choice as a Future Bucs Franchise QB Mike Glennon who never came close to winning 10 games in a season. Yes he had a cannon for an arm, was a nice guy, and a high IQ, but his lack of production proved he was a Dud, a Sack Magnet, who was great at scoring in the red zone, but could almost never get there, unless the Defense got him a turnover down there first. His third down stats were horrible, and he bombed in Chicago. Schiano never had a top ten defense here and only got to average by forcing the Bucs to pay a fortune to hire Revis Island. He was a Know it all and gave away our best RB to his Buddy in New England who is now gifting him a job since he can’t get one on his own.
