Brian Kelly’s Son Chimes In

January 4th, 2019

Son weighs in.

Man, Bucs fans got worked up earlier in the week when Chicago Tribune columnist and WSCR-AM 670 host David Haugh reported that the search firm Team Glazer hired to help find a new Bucs coach was pushing Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly on the Bucs.

There has been no word from Kelly if he is a candidate for the job but his son Kenzel Kelly seemed to offer an opinion. Below is how the younger Kelly reacted to Haugh’s scoop.

Anyone find it interesting the tweet was sent from the Naples area?

Joe has no idea if Kelly is a candidate at all with the Bucs much less a serious candidate. But as far as coaches’ children claiming to know the whims of their parents, Joe vividly remembers an interesting missive on Twitter.

Shortly after Urban Meyer first retired, leaving the Florida Gators program, his daughter sent out an angry reply on Twitter stating in no uncertain terms her father was never going to coach Ohio State.

Urban Meyer this week retired for the second time, after coaching Ohio State for the past seven seasons.

    No!

  5. Playaction Says:

    No thanks.
If they go with a college coach, why wouldn’t you go with someone that has actually won championships?

  6. Acewigsplitta Says:

Yikes..dude can’t even check his on children no thank you! Chip Kelly 2.0 probably!

  7. firethecannons Says:

  10. BucEmUp Says:

  11. Waterboy Says:

    No thanks.

    @firethecannons
Bruce Arians has to get approval from Arizona before he can interview because he retired while under contract

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Difference between a real fan and a fairweather fan:

Real Fan: I know who I prefer, but no matter who the hire, I will support him.

Fairweather Fan: I know who I want, and if I don’t get him, I’m done!

A real fan? Doesn’t threaten to stop being a fan.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Are you people blind? Kelly’s son thinks it’s laughable that the media is claiming the things being said about Kelly and the Bucs. Clearly, it isn’t going to happen. So stop whining about something that has no chance of being true.

Even if his name actually is on the list…and there is no proof of it…that doesn’t mean the Bucs will even talk to him.

  14. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

A real fan actually does threatens to leave

But they never do because they love the Bucs

  15. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Ol’ Pear Shaped Petey D. puffing up and calling people non-fans for not rubber stamping doomed coaching hired or his online gnome romance novels. Boy what a tired out jelly belly.

  16. ManzielMadness Says:

I bet a bunch of “real” Bungles fans will leave if they replace Marvin Lewis with Hue Jackson LOL

  17. FortMyersDave Says:

Joe you asked so here it is: The post is from Naples Joe? Well living in SW Florida for a long time and really kind of missing my roots up in Temple Terrace I can tell you that Naples will brag about their long history and the fact their county is named after Barron Collier, one of the driving forces in Florida development the 19th Century along with people named Plant and Duval but in reality Naples is so slammed full of mid-westerners who think either Ohio State or Michigan are the best programs in America. Back in the days of the ’90s and early 2000’s when ABC used to give regional broadcasts of NCAA games like Fox and CBS do now a typical Saturday game map would show: All Florida affiliates: #1 Oklahoma vs #3 Texas EXCEPT West Palm Beach, Miami, Naples-Ft Myers: Ohio State or Michigan vs very bad Indiana or Northwestern teams… Dave Moulton of said Naple’s ABC-7 did tell everyone at a gathering a while back that this was not the station’s decision but came down from above due to “demographic” research: ie Naples is full of Big 10 retirees who are millionaires….. So if a post came from Naples it is likely from a fat Big 10 homer who has no love for the Bucs and probably has love for a place like Cleveland, Detroit, Cincy, etc…..

  18. Jonzey Says:

    Hell no to Kelly

  19. Fire Light Says:

Fireeee Licht! Only Licht could piss off Bucs fans by mentioning this guy as a possible coaching candidate.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

This whole coaching change thing is a bigger game of Liars Poker than the pre-draft.

  21. BucFamous Says:

There are no proven commodities on the coaching market (except Arians), so no matter who the Bucs hire we will see fans throw up their arms in disgust.

In terms of Brian Kelly—he doesn’t seem to have the temperament for the NFL (see Schiano). However, he’s worth kicking the tires on. And whoever questions why we’re not going after a “national championship winning coach” needs a tutorial on college ball. There are recruiting coaches and there are developmental coaches (Matt Rhule, Pat Fitzgerald). That’s why you can’t look to titles and records only when trying to hire a college coach. I doubt Fitzgerald will ever win a title, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t worth exploring.

  22. CoReY Says:

I’m surprised only one person on here put two and two together about the laughing emojis his son added in the tweet. He obviously finds the report funny and that there’s probably no weight to it. If anyone knew his intentions of leaving, it’d be his son.

  23. Easy Says:

I’d rather have Dabo Swinney than anyone else at this point.

  24. Kalind Says:

Pass. There’s better options. A lot better. Anyone watch that bowl game??? Yeeeeesh.

  25. Stu Says:

    I second the kid’s post…😂😂😂😂

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  27. unbelievable Says:

Lots of NFL coaches spend time in Naples, not that surprising at all…

  28. Buccfan37 Says:

I watched Kelly coach at Cincinnati and Note Dame in quite a few games, he did improve both programs.

  29. Alanbucsfan Says:

They could do alot worse than Kelly.
He develops good players. Notre Dame just can’t get the talent that Clemson or Alabama gets.

  30. diggler Says:

The whole Eagles team revolted against this guy. He’s not in the NFL for a huge reason… cough :Joe will edit this word so doing it for him, starts with R ends with T: cough

  31. 813bucboi Says:

    thats chip kelly…not brian kelly….

    c’mon man….lol…..

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  32. Nwbucfan Says:

No endorsement of Kelly, but the chip Kelly comparisons don’t make much sense. Two very different coaches

Perhaps you’re better with social media than me…in fact I feel pretty sure you are.

Communicating with emojis is risky. My first reaction was the same as yours…he was laughing at the reporter.

But as I looked at those emojis again I realize he might just be celebrating his fathers’ success and a clear recognition of it. Maybe it’s an I told you so to a friend who questioned his dad’s talent.

  35. Fire Light Says:

    Lol… fireeeee Licht!

  36. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

It’s hilarious that Brian’s son is laughing.

Um, no Kenzel, it is US that are laughing at the notion of Brian Kelly coaching this team.

    No thank you.
