“Unheralded”

Man, the Bucs were using such scrubs, nobodies and never-beens on Sunday to beat the Stinking Panthers, Joe sometimes had to check the roster to make sure he was seeing straight.

The fact Andrew Adams became only the third Bucs defensive back to record three picks in one game, and to pick off a former NFL MVP, was astonishing.

So Cameron Wolfe of BSPN was looking through NFL box scores from Sunday and decided to give props to who he called “unheralded ballers.”

Adams was the first one.

Adams was surprisingly released by the Giants before the preseason began, and getting somewhat of a vindication on Sunday had to feel sweet for him. Adams is now in a reserve role, but he looked like a star on Sunday, intercepting Newton three times. Adams had just one career interception in 38 games before this outburst.

When Justin Evans left Sunday’s game with an injury, no player in the secondary was a starter to open the season.

That tells Joe these guys were coached up and prepared. Who knew that even was possible the way the defense played so terribly when Mike Smith was running the show.

No wonder Koetter doesn’t like you

  2. Chuckstutz Says:

Maybe duffner speaking English solved all the communication problems.

I hope they can keep it up.

  3. gbobucsfan Says:

Man, I really hope Sunday is not a let-down.

It sure would be fun to watch a real football team in action (again).

  4. JimmyJack Says:

Wow did Joe just say that our players were prepared?

It’s so amazing to me that a guy we never heard like Adams can be better prepared that a long-term vet like TJ Ward was last year. If that don’t screaming coaching I don’t know what does.

If you want to see an example of a team that is not prepared to play NFL football then just go look at TJ Ward last year……It really doesn’t matter which game you look at either.

  5. JimmyJack Says:

Joe if I may change to subject can I ask a favor to do a story on the changes made to local sports radio.

I got some venting and critizing I need to get off my chest.

  6. Lord Cornelius Says:

This game was another visual lesson on why a front 7 that can pressure the QB consistently can make any secondary look decent.

I’d love the Bucs to do a draft like this:
    R1-best available DL
    R2-best available DL or OT
R3-R7-best available DL or OT or OG or RB

This draft is loaded with edge rush and has a couple decent OTs.

I’d be fine going all in on D-line in the draft; and signing one CB to replace Grimes. Newly signed CB + year 2 davis + healthy Hargreaves + elite front 7 should be fine. Keep this Adams guy and Ryan Smith around too.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

Lord we fittin to beat the Saints and go on a playoff chase. Your draft talk is depressing.

That being said I approve of your ideas. You don’t ignore a strenght you keep it strong. Especially when you are talking Dline which is arguably the most vital position group in the game.

When I look at this defense I believe building a solid LBing core would make the biggest impact. If there is a LB that they feel is going to be a great player I do not think there is any question who our top pick should be.

  8. Lord Cornelius Says:

    @Jimmy

Not trying to be depressing lol I hope we win out and go 9-7.

Didn’t really want to get into draft talk as much as I’m just emphasizing how this proves the point that many of us have been making for years on this website; if you have a good pass rush you can make any secondary look decent. That you should be drafting and spending $$ towards rushing the passer with elite athletes.

  9. dmatt Says:

Lord Cornelius, I agree…let’s load up with DL. Heck, between Alabama n Clemson’s defense,I’d load up with as many defensive players from the two as possible. Reason being, they are both coached well, great gang/open field tacklers, aggressive, n knows defensive schemes. Plz let’s get rid of Isaiah Johnson n Ryan Smith…they shouldn’t b in the nfl. I love #22 De’Vante Harris, he’s aggressive, can tackle, n is always around the ball.

  10. Pryda30...sec 147 Says:

Biggest game of the season thus far coming up ! It’s our house we control our fate! Need to beat them again !

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I agree with Dline focus in the draft with a couple of high Oline picks…….we can pick up a FA CB or RB if needed (it’s needed)

And Licht…..stop getting cute with your 2nd round picks……take the consensus sure bets…..there is usually a reason why they are consensus picks. You have done well with your first round and OK in 3rd/4th…..but 2nd is terrible.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Lord just giving you a hard time. Draft talk is always fun thats why I responded. Go check out the McCarthy article for my response to PVCBob. That’s where I’m at right now.

    GO BUCS!!!

  13. JimmyJack Says:

TBBF…….Just to give you a heads up. Spence was a 2nd round sure-fire..,…..At least he was to the vast majority.

Not really sure how surefire a 2nd round really can be. History says you lucky to hit on 50%

  14. Rick Says:

Beefing up the d line to disguise a young secondary was the plan all along. That explains the vea pick. I just think Licht over estimated all the guys he signed (minus JPP, Nassib ). It seems like it’s all coming together now.

  15. JimmyJack Says:

Rick the Dline took a while to get which hurt the plan. Perhaps, the biggest thing that hurt was how bad Grimes has been this year.

We didn’t start losing until Pittsburg came into our home and pushed us out of the way like we were schoolgirls……..If I wanted I could easily hold Grimes as being the most responsible for that loss. In fact, that’s what I believe.

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Sorry Grimes. I did like you in 2017-16. You were a solid player for us in those years. You also made a lot of freakish plays which were a lot of fun to watch.

Have a good future but please step away from my field. We have better players now.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

Truth be told Joe..Them scrubs are actually ballin their A’s Off!!
Leave’em in there. Hell, they are HUNGRY!

  18. TOM Says:

I’ll take overachievers vs underachievers (D Smith) anyday.

  19. AKickInTheBucNuts Says:

The young kids are listening to the good coach Duff instead of old know-it-all vets tuning out bad coach Smith.

  20. SOEbuc Says:

Nassib #2? Good press defense like Sunday and this could be what looked like a totally different secondary. Carlton Davis could possibly get that much better playing man. It’s what he was great at in college and then they draft him to play 12 yards deep.

    5 PICKS 5 SACKS SUNDAY!!!

  21. SB Says:

Guys……….I don’t know about you but I saw a HUGE Coaching difference Sunday!!!!
I haven’t seen our Bucs look this Hungry and Focused and Dialed in, in a long time. Buck deserves a shot if the next four games go well.

  22. TheShaz Says:

With the changes in the rules that nerf defenses left and right.

The best bang for the buck is the D-Line.

Getting to the QB is the only answer because at this pace you will get a flag if you just look at a WR the wrong way let alone lay a pinky finger on him.

  23. TampaTown Says:

No matter what it’s ALWAYS about defense. Defense wins championships.

  24. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

So we can help the OL out and the run game out if we had a FullBack…

    LOL

    Just saying!!!

  25. BucsBandit Says:

    SAINTS 41

The delusional Jameis homers on this site will come back down to earth in a hurry.

  26. vinny Says:

and Joe you say how you want to get rid of DUFf LMFAO!!! WOW

  27. Joe Says:

and Joe you say how you want to get rid of DUFf

    Never wrote that.

  28. vinny Says:

“Regardless, Duffner is doing a helluva job putting together a resume to be a full-time defensive coordinator somewhere in this league next season.”

guess I just misunderstood that as not with the Bucs…

I’m just full of passion Steve, Lee, Justin, Sage…

LOVE what I’ve been seeing the past few weeks and all I’m saying is if we get this for another 4 weeks to close the season out, then we need to carry this over one more year instead of hoping another coach can come in here and mess up the best Bucs offense I’ve seen in my life, with the old Bucs Defense playing the way we are use to seeing the past two weeks.

    its all love fellas!

    GO BUCS!!!

  29. SenileSenior Says:

Draft talk isn’t depressing for me as we are not going to win the Super Bowl this year year even if we by some miracle make it to the playoffs.

I hope we can continue to build for the long run with our draft in 2019. I to0 hope to see more youth on the DL and the OL drafted according to the best available player theory.

I am expecting Licht to be here and I anticipate a new head coach. We do have a lot of pieces of the puzzle in place so we don’t need a complete overhaul to move up to the next level sooner than later.

    Go Bucs!!!!!!

  30. DalvinCookRules Says:

The vulnerabilities of these young, new unknown players will start becoming evident on film in a few weeks as teams acquire more film knowledge.

Hats off to Duff for the past two games, but if we were going to use such a small sample set to make such important long-term decisions, maybe we should bring back Richard Williamson to be HC? Remember his debut game?

The bottom line is this team is clueless at the very top. They either don’t know how to hire the best or they are too cheap to do it (or some combination).

  31. adam from ny Says:

well now we all know exactly who this man is…but even a week or so before this i was noticing him on the field making some plays…

    i quietly thought “who’s this adams guy”?…

Here’s hoping Adams gets 4 picks against Drew Brees on Sunday.
