The Playoff Quarterbacks

December 31st, 2018

The postseason is here and the Bucs will not participate. That’s nothing new.

But as Bucs fans watch the playoffs, many will study the quarterback play and wonder if Jameis Winston has what it takes to be a January QB.

Joe can’t answer that question. But Joe can share where all the starting playoff quarterbacks were drafted. The majority were not top-10 draft picks, and five out of 12 were selected outside the first round. All but two were acquired by their teams in the draft.

Andrew Luck – No. 1 overall pick – 2012
Jared Goff – No. 1 overall pick – 2016
Mitch Trubisky – No. 2 overall pick – 2017
Philip Rivers – No. 4 overall pick – 2004
Patrick Mahomes – No. 10 overall pick – 2017
DeSean Watson – No. 12 overall pick – 2017
Lamar Jackson – No. 32 overall pick – 2018

Drew Brees – No. 32 overall pick – 2001 (Round 2, 1st pick)
Russell Wilson – No. 75 overall pick – 2012 (Round 3)
Nick Foles – No. 88 overall pick – 2012 (Round 3)
Dak Prescott – No. 135 overall pick – 2016 (Round 4)
Tom Brady – No. 199 overall pick – 2000 (Round 6)

Joe’s not making any kind of profound point here, just sharing interesting data that illustrates there’s no generic way to get your team to the promised land at the quarterback position.

America’s Quarterback could get there next year. And the Bucs’ new head coach also could be very hungry to bring in real competition for him through the draft.

I hate it when you say “Americas QB”……………he’s done and earned nothing for it……….cmon JOE!!!!!!

BTW………with a new HC, plays, and staff…………no way does he progress forward……….he could look worse by mid season next year.

  2. SOEbuc Says:

No doubt QB is the most important position on the team, but I’m so tired of the “can Jameis do it” BS (not particularly from you Joe).

DEFENSES WHEN CHAMPIONSHIPS! And we haven’t had a good defense or defensive coach in a VERY long time. When that happens, we can talk about what Jameis can do in the playoffs.

  3. Casey Morgan Says:

He is NOT a playoff QB. He was retained for 2019, but I bet we draft Drew Lock in 2nd round…

  4. EA Says:

There is no generic way to take your team to the playoffs at the QB position but there is a way to not make the playoffs, throw more picks than TDs.

  5. SOEbuc Says:

    *DEFENSES WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS

  6. 813bucboi Says:

we will see a different winston now that he’s out of that outdated predictable 4vert scheme….all he needs is a solid defense and run game….the same thing that dak, goff, trubisky, jackson, watson all have….all those qb’s have a good defense, run game and coaches that put them in position to win….

    KRIS RICHARD 4 HC!!!!

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!…#ADIOSDIRK!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  7. SOEbuc Says:

Joe where do you get these folks that think we’re going to draft a QB in the early rounds in this soft ass QB draft??? They try to talk trash about Licht’s early picks and then say this stupid sh!t

  8. Bucsfanman Says:

The smart move is to bring in competition. Jameis has talent. The problem is not that. The problem is decision making.
We are NOT a playoff TEAM. Find a run-game, play better defense, limit Jameis’ throws to under 35 attempts. Most importantly, find some G-D leadership on BOTH sides of the ball.

  9. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

I hope the new coach brings fire to this organization

Mike McCarthy can make Jamies a playoff quarterback

Glazers don’t mind spending cash and free agency for McCarthy to have more talent on his team than just Aaron Rodgers

Get a great defensive coordinator that can change us to 3-4 team and get rid of Gerald McCoy

-Geez it’s like half the head coaches got fired this year

  10. D-Rome Says:

Jay-Miss does not have what it takes. All of the aforementioned QBs do not turn the ball over with breath taking consistency.

  11. SOEbuc Says:

“we will see a different winston now that he’s out of that outdated predictable 4vert scheme”

Anyone watching the last five or six games can see he’s finally making a turn for the better, he’s realizing how to be smart with the football, and I believe he will only get better with a good offensive HC. Get a DC that can write up a defense and we could be playoff bound.

  12. ChanEpic Says:

The truth no matter what his detractors say, is that Jameis has as much if not more talent and ability as any of the QBs mentioned above. Jameis’ detractors, are foolishly disregarding the other assets those Qbs have that Jameis has NEVER HAD. A COMPETENT DEFENSE. Jameis detractors, detract more because of his off the field issues, which is human and expected. It just makes them crap football evaluators.

  13. Troy Says:

I watched the game last night night between the Colts and the Titans. One thing struck me when they were talking about Andrew Luck; getting the ball out of your hand in under two seconds. It seems we didn’t run enough plays that did that this year. You add that to the fact that we have no run game and it’s a recipe for QB sacks and mistakes.

On one hand I’m hopeful for Jameis to get time with a new OC. On the other, I can’t see Licht making a good choice for the HC. The guy’s a complete mess and should have been fired yesterday with Dirk. Bringing Grandpa Arians out of retirement for a couple of years isn’t going to cut it. How about looking for a long-term solution.

Astute point Bucboi….somewhat known, but nonetheless a good point and winning mixture.

Incidentally…..all the things that this guy’s (once hopeful) candidate for the Bucs would absolutely bring the Bucs and Winston…..JOHN HARBAUGH. Running game and phenomenal game in and game out defense.

  15. NPRSageBoy Says:

Not only is JayMiss NOT a playoff QB, he’s NOT a franchise QB. Not even close. Only hope a new HC recognizes that quickly and has a plan to move in another direction just as rapidly.

    McCarthy+Kareem Hunt+Good DC+Oline

    Dude. Sweet.

  17. Not there yet Says:

Why do we have such ignorant fans I think most of them post here. How can anyone sitting on a freaking couch with no ties to professional football know Winston will not progress or is done or know what other coaches feel about him. It’s just stupid because like anyone is going to take a fans perspective on a quarterback seriously. Just sit back and watch which is all you do or have ever done. I am on board with competition for everyone though especially Winston. It’s too bad we’ll never got to see Ryan Griffin play. Just another failure of Koetter not to let this guy play in the last two lost seasons

  18. Zwak Says:

Winston has looked much better lately I’m looking forward to seeing what a new coach does with him!

I hate it when you say “Americas QB”……………he’s done and earned nothing for it……….cmon JOE!!!!!!

I have been urging Joe to stop with the “America’s QB”…..putting Winston on a pedestal where he doesn’t belong…..stoking the hate……but its a hopeless endeavor.

    Joe once posted this:

    Joe Says:

Joe- Still with the “America’s Quarterback” moniker huh?? What gives haven’t you learned your lesson yet?? You sound like a idiot and lose credibility daily by doing so.

Clearly you are not well-versed in how to make cash on the internet. Joe has numbers and data that tells him what works, not guesswork.

  21. Pete I Says:

No is the answer, Winston does not. He is a failure at this level, uselessly mediocre. But we need another year to find out what we have in Winston.

  22. DB55 Says:

    Joe,

Where are those teams defenses and running games ranked?

  23. Chris Says:

Why is Winston America’s QB? Doesn’t that type of title represent not only a good player of high character on and off the field?

I mean that’s like labeling James Franco with all his sexual harassment and assault accusations as Captain America.

Anyways , if I’m the bucs new coach, I’m telling the glazers my plan is to go after Nick Foles in FA. And if I can’t get him, I’m taking a WB in the first three rounds to have compete with Winston. Bc Winston does so well under pressure.

Stats are for losers. I want a QB that can win. Winston’s had four years. Guys like Watson, mayfield, darnold, Jackson, Mahomes, Prescott , Trubisky, wentz and Goff are all less experienced yet much further ahead of the curve in their young careers. That’s why I laugh at the excuses Winston gets when he’s dug his own grave.

I also don’t want to hear how great he played. The falcons lost more than half their starters on defense. I’ve never seen Winston play well against good defenses in games that matter.

  24. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Really really wish the America’s QB moniker could be put to rest. It’s so damn silly and corny. FFS just call him Famous Jameis.

  25. Zwak Says:

Miami released Adam Gase didn’t see that one coming

  26. Chris Says:

I think the bucs are going to have a tough time selling the next coach on Winston when teams enjoyed preparing for him. He doesn’t see the field well and honestly you can’t coach someone who doesn’t see the field well. Coaching wouldn’t improve that

  27. BrianBucs Says:

With the exception of Lamar Jackson, I would rather have ANY of those QB’s in Red and pewter than Winston.
The only way Winston can ever make a championship run is on a run-first offense where his number of dropbacks is greatly reduced. Then they can use a lot of playaction which is one of Winston’s strongest points. Koetter’s pass happy downfield throwing offense was not made for Winston as it forces him to hold the ball too long too many times causing many bad decisions and turnovers

  28. Chris Says:

Gase won’t want to get into another messy suspect QB situation.

  29. Rayjay1122 Says:

No QB in the NFL can succeed with the current OL. They better upgrade the OT’s for sure as well as the RG. I can live with Marpet and Jensen but the others are pure garbage.

  30. Pete I Says:

Gase was clearly on the chopping block and so Tannehill will be gone too…the Phins will need a QB…

  31. Chris Says:

    Ray jay,

Houston’s line is worse. How’s Watson doing?

  32. SOEbuc Says:

I was impressed with Cappa yesterday after Benenoch came out early. Even though Falcons defense sucks he looked to be holding his own. Something that should definitley have to be payed attention to in the offseason. He should be doing some major workout in the offseason. Drafting early or paying a good OG could be risky business if you already have one.

  33. Loyaltotheend Says:

7 of the 12 playoff qbs are first rounders

So the notion of drafting a 2nd or 3rd round qb to win is not the way to build or find a quality qb

  34. Bolt Isle Says:

It’d be great if there was a way to make audio short stories on all America’s Quarterback threads. Read by the authors. Would be greatly entertaining.

BTW………with a new HC, plays, and staff…………no way does he progress forward……….he could look worse by mid season next year.”

There was a time when Tampa fans claimed you do not need an elite QB to win the Superbowl. Were you one of those fans?

I ask because now that we have a good QB, suddenly that’s not good enough.

Jameis has one major weakness…interceptions. If he can fix that aspect of his game, he’ll be elite.

He has the short passes. He has the middle range passes. And he has the deep passes (as evidenced throughout this season, including last week to Mike Evans). The fumbles last year were due to his shoulder injury and the oline failing to protect him. These are not excuses, these are facts.

Your prediction is wrong, because the new Head Coach will keep Todd Monken in place with the same offensive system, plus a few tweaks.

As to the future coaching staff:

    HC Mike McCarthy
    OC Todd Monken
DC Marvin Lewis or Rod Marinelli (if fired)

    OR

    HC Brian Flores
    OC Todd Monken
DC Marvin Lewis or Rod Marinelli (if fired)

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @TheBucsAnthem

I also hate the America’s Quarterback nickname. Sometimes I think Joe goes a bit far with the nicknames, but its sort of his thing.

  37. tickrdr Says:

First, kudos to Jameis Winston for probably his most complete game of his career to date. I have not seen him throw the ball out of bounds on lost plays like that, and only one or two throws into coverage etc.
Secondly, it is still true that defense HELPS to win championships, especially in wintry games, but :
3 of the top ten defenses in points allowed did NOT make the playoffs.
5 of the top ten defenses in yards allowed did NOT make the playoffs.
4 of the top ten defenses in total takeaways did NOT make the playoffs.
So what HELPS make the playoffs the most = QB play, imho.

  38. TPro1976 Says:

In Drew Brees’ first four full Seasons (02-05) he Had 80 TD’s and 52 interceptions. Jameis has 88 and 58 TD/INT respectively over roughly the same number of games (on much worse teams). Brees goes to New Orleans in ‘06 and all of a sudden becomes a perennial MVP candidate. Coaching matters, scheme matters. Maybe ya’ll should think about giving Winston a chance under a real NFL Coaching staff before you run him out of town?

  39. tickrdr Says:

    More Fun with Statistics:
    Several days ago I posted the top QBs ranked by the highest TD percentages;
    the percent of throws which result in a TD pass. Then I listed the INT percentage;
the percent of throws which resulted in an interception for each of those QBs.
Then I subtracted the INT percentage from the TD percentage like this:

    TD% – INT% = number for each quarterback.

    My reasoning is twofold.
First, if you are an aggressive QB, you may throw a lot of TDs, but may have too many INTs as a result. On the other hand, if you are too cautious, you become a “checkdown Charlie” who limits INTs, but doesn’t throw enough TDs.

  40. Pete I Says:

Hopefully coaching candidates will tell the Glazers NO on Winston enough that they get the picture. Of course it will be that we get sloppy seconds or even thirds for a coach, but being saddled with Licht and Winston one cannot hope for much.

  41. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

It’s so funny how few of you seem to understand why the “America’s Quarterback” nickname for Jameis is so spot on.

Oh well, keep getting upset by it, I guess.

I have no doubt that JW has what it takes to get us to that next level, and the way he played yesterday sure as HELL did nothing to sway me away from that. He was fantastic.

  42. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

  44. Tampabaybucfan Says:

All of the Quarterbacks with the exception of Mahones have a far better defense.

All of the Quarterbacks have a better running game.

It’s time to be fair to Winston……he doesn’t have a very good team around him….and no, he can’t carry them. Many of his turnover struggles are due to game situations and trying to make up for a very poor running game and awful defense.

Does he have room for improvement? Hell yes….but do the Bucs have room for improvement in defense and running game……triple hell yes.

  45. StoutGospel Says:

Mannn…8 Head Coach-ing openings out of 32 teams. Insane.

It seems as though that very capable and determined owner in Miami Stephen Ross with allllll his commercial real estate dough, clearly has something up his sleeve with letting Adam Gase and most of the front office go. I just hope to hell it’s NOT JOHN Harbaugh!! He seems to be a very determined cat if you read up on his background thoroughly.

JOHN Harbaugh to Bucs! Hopefully-somehow! Korn Ferry brings us a belated pewter present for the New Year in JOHN Harbaugh!

And no candidates with health problems!!!

  46. Chris Says:

The problem I have about arians is health issues affected him as a coach in his last year and a half which led to him having to step away from the HC role. Kubiak almost stroked out on the field and he left.

Arians looks like he’s about to burst with those beat red cheeks.

I’m a bucs fan and I want a long term solution at HC. Not someone you will have to wonder when the health issues come into play how long can he be here ?

  47. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Arians just tweeted that he would listen to what Jason would have to say.

  49. Lord Cornelius Says:

Hm Bruce is interesting. I just worry that he also ran what seemed to be a similar bomb-it-down-the-field with Palmer type offense

  50. SOEbuc Says:

No doubt I’m down for competition and we are going to need more depth since Fitz will likely be gone but not drafting a QB above the 4th round or paying Kirk Cousins $84 million-3 years.

  51. Zam Says:

Like many fans I want to root for a team led by a quarterback whose character I respect. That ain’t Winston.

What that list shows is that if you pick wisely, you can have great success with a quarterback in their first, second or third year.

We’ve wasted enough time on this cat. No matter what his numbers do, he’s never going to turn into a wonderful human being. Why do we keep holding onto hope that someday he’s going to be a winner too?

Im glad a lot of fans want an average qb leading their team with questionable character.

  56. tnew Says:

So 70% of the defenses that led the league in points allowed are in the playoffs… That seems like a pretty strong trend.

    But let me help.

If the Bucs had a top 5 scoring defense, 7th rushing attack, 13th FG%, 10th in net punting and didn’t make the playoffs, then we as fans should look at the QB position as the primary issue.. This was Tennessee btw.

But the Bucs have a 31st scoring defense, 29th rushing attack, 29th FG% and 21st in net punting the QB isn’t the primary reason the team is winning. With the Bucs, the QB must overcome so many things to win.

  57. tnew Says:

Doug Martin had another 100 yd rushing game if anyone cares.

  58. tickrdr Says:

    More Fun with Statistics (continued):

So, what number did this formula yield for the playoff QBs?

    TD% – INT% = number for each QB

Russell Wilson = 6.6 5th seed in NFC
Patrick Mahomes = 6.5 1st seed in AFC
Drew Brees = 5.5 1st seed in NFC
Philip Rivers = 3.9 5th seed in AFC
Andrew Luck = 3.8 6th seed in AFC
Jared Goff = 3.6 2nd seed in NFC
Carson Wentz = 3.5 6th seed in NFC
Deshaun Watson = 3.3 3rd seed in AFC
Tom Brady = 3.2 2nd seed in AFC
Mitch Trubisky = 2.7 3rd seed in NFC
Dak Prescott = 2.7 4th seed in NFC
Lamar Jackson = 1.7 4th seed in AFC

    tickrdr

BTW: The last five NFL MVPs were all QBs.
Their TD percentages during their MVP years were:
And subtracting their INT percentages yields:
    2017 Brady = 5.5% – INT 1.4% = 4.4
    2016 Ryan = 7.1% – INT 1.3% = 5.8
    2015 Newton = 7.1% – INT 2.0% = 5.1
    2014 Rodgers = 7.3% – INT 1.0% = 6.3
    2013 Manning = 8.3% – INT 1.5% = 6.8

    Screw him, good riddance.

  61. tickrdr Says:

Three of those last five MVPs did NOT make the playoffs (Manning retired)
So how did they perform this year compared to the playoff QBs?

    Newton = 2.3
    Ryan = 4.5
    Rodgers = 3.9

It looks like Ryan and Rodgers certainly played at better than “playoff-level”, but agree with others that their supporting casts were not quite up to the task.

No doubt, tnew, and the minute I posted that I thought “that wasn’t even his point!”

    Carr = 1.6

    How about our heroes?

    Winston = 5.0% – 3.7% = 1.3

  71. passthebuc Says:

Winston is serviceable. He is not a savior. If you can sign him to a favorable contract for his ability, I say do it and concentrate on the other needs. If not, promote your 3rd string QB and again concentrate on the other needs. On a good BB team he would be the 4th guard

  72. Jawo75 Says:

A great defense won’t make Jamoist stop turning the ball over. Or be able to throw the ball deep accurately. Or be able to read and understand what a play clock is. Lastly, a great defense can’t stop him from making poor life decisions that expose his very low character. But hey, let’s waste $21 million to watch another failed season. It’ll be a gas!!!

  73. tickrdr Says:

No head coach worth his salt is going to put all his eggs in Winston’s basket. True competition will be brought in. Not “just” an intended backup. Career suicide if not. Winston May be “it” with proper coaching and surrounding cast but until that’s proven, on and off the field, you better have a viable plan b.

    8.6 rating yesterday..
    Thanks for the correction!

I think the 4-5 range is an attainable goal for him.

    Thanks for sharing the stats

Bruce Arians would. There are several others who would, also. That’s why the premise that no good coach would want to come here because of Jameis has always been a false premise. There is still plenty of interest.

Sorry to be negative folks……Winston is already on the bust scrap pile…..but hey, if you want to keep tinkering, have at it!!!!

Are you serious with this one? He had Aaron Rodgers and Brett freaking Favre. If you can’t put the Packers in the playoffs with Aaron Rodgers every year how in the HELL can you sniff 6 wins with Jameis? I mean seriously. Good grief man.
    ———

Yeah I mean other than Aaron Rodgers packers really don’t have any talent, look what happened when Aaron Rodgers gets injured, they don’t win any games

Plus Aaron Rodgers turned into a bit of a diva with a pouty temper, Jamies will be easier for McCarthy to control

Bucs are willing to spend top dollar in free agency whereas packers dont.

McCarthy pretty much took the packers to the playoffs every year and they were always super bowl contenders. I think with a good defensive coordinator McCarthy can make Bucs super bowl contenders

  81. Loose Stool Says:

Jameis Winston in a playoff game?

Ha Joe! you make me laugh.

  82. Aceofaerospace Says:

Demon. I respectfully disagree. If Arians or any other coach takes this job with Winston in the final year of his contract and doesn’t bring in real competition, through free agency or the draft, I’ll kiss your behind. Mind you, I want Winston to succeed. Winston winning games means Bucs winning games. I take no joy in starting over…again. “I” never said no good coach would want to come here because of Winston. That’s nuts. Wave Winston and he won’t last 30 seconds on the waiver wire. His upside is huge. But…it hasn’t been fully realized yet. Competition would be Winston’s best friend.

  83. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^^ Great points, Ace, and really well-written. I understand completely, and it makes total sense. Thanks for the shout out!

  84. stpetebucsfan Says:

Bruce Arians reputation as a QB whisperer and effective QB coach is well documented.

If he comes to the Bucs JW will have ZERO leverage over him…something I like. JW’s leverage is already minimal but I do not suspect anybody would blame Arians IF JW continues to be inconsistent.

More than what Arians can do with Jameis is can he find a great young DC to bring with him. With our draft position and young talent we could turn this D around pretty quickly IMHO.

I think Arians would be a success with or without Jameis. He’s great at finding a way to win. He’s 58-33 .636 win %.

I’d so love to hire an actual WINNER!!!

  85. Lord Cornelius Says:

Winston’s #’s since he came in against the Giants are pretty damn good.

    13 TD / 4 Int
    7.8 YPA
    64%

That’s with at least one hail mary interception and one that went off a WRs hands.
In general outside of the Cincy implosion he really has been pretty solid.

Over 7.5 games that seems like a decent stretch for a 24 YO QB. But wtfdik

  86. DaPostman Says:

Winston 13 TD’s and 4 int last 6 1/2 games. Two of the int’s were last play Hail Marys after the game was decided. Winston Detangement Syndrome simpletons please sit down and shut up. You keep proving that YOU hate Winston more than you love the Bucs. It’s as clear as the nose on your face.

  87. tickrdr Says:

    @Lord Cornelius:

For those 7.5 games, that yields:
TD percentage of 6.8% and INT percentage of 2.0%, for a difference of
4.8, which is clearly consistent with “playoff level” QB play.
Clearly that is what “good Jameis” can do, but to date he has NOT been
able to do that for a whole season. This is his first season with a
TD percentage of 5% or greater, and he has only one season with an
INT percentage as low as 2.5%.
Note: the worst INT% of any of the playoff QBs was 2.8% for Trubisky.

“SOEBUCS . ALL THOSE TEAMS HAS A GOOD DEFENSE!!!! BUT THIS FAN BASE DOESN’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL. I’VE BEEN SAYING THAT SINCE JAMIES GOT HERE…etc”

And others just don’t like his play because he’s had off field issues. Guarantee if we got Kareem Hunt (be freakin sweet) and he busted out two 1,000+ yard seasons in a row they’d all be wearing a Hunt jersey by his third year. Too many football ignorant, chump, bandwagon fans with no faith that call themselves Bucs fans.

Yeah there are way too many idiots out there that say no coaches want to come to team with one of the best offenses in the league. Would think the Bucs are actually atop any of these other teams that are getting rid of HCs.

  90. Bucsdelight Says:

Jackson with the Ravens is not a QB. He is a RB. They wont their division due to the Steelers being awful and having a good Defense. If we had a defense, we would have definitely won 3-4 more games. Defense is a problem. Jameis is serviceable (as pointed out previously), but he needs a strong supporting cast. He’ll never do anything on his own.

  92. Jeagan1999 Says:

Thanks, Joe for bringing up the 12 playoff QB’s…there is a number that you can use to compare this group to James Winston…but it’s not the round they were drafted in that matters. It’s this “TD/INT Ratio”. How many TD’s does a QB throw, vs. how many INT’s! Let’s see how Winston compares over his career to these other guys you listed….

    Patrick Mahomes (KC) 3.84 : 1 TD/INT ratio
    Russell Wilson (SEA) 3.11 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Tom Brady (NE) 3.02 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Dak Prescott (DAL) 2.68 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Desean Watson (HOU) 2.64 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Jared Goff (LA) 2.50 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Drew Brees (N.O.) 2.23 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Philip Rivers (LAC) 2.10 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Andrew Luck (IND) 2.06 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Nick Foles (PHI) 2.06 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Lamar Jackson (BAL) 2.00 : 1 TD/INT Ratio
    Mitch Trubisky (CHI) 1.63 : 1 TD/INT Ratio

    James Winston (TB) 1.51 : 1 TD/INT Ratio

Every single QB on that list throws at least 2 TD for every 1 INT except for Trubisky. And even Trubisky’s TD/INT ratio is still better than Winston’s!

Winston will never be a top level QB if he can’t get that number up over 2 to 1! So sure, bring Winston back on a 1 year option….but draft another QB as insurance too, because through 4 years James has shown a propensity for turning the ball over!

  93. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Great points, Jeagan. Over the last 7 games, JW would be 3.25, which would be 2nd on that list. – So he is definitely trending in the right direction.

  94. Jeagan1999 Says:

Tampa Bay Demon….3.25 is a strong number! But until Jameis can produce those kinds of numbers over an entire season, I wouldn’t be taking any chances! That’s why I say bring Winston back next year AND draft another guy just in case!!
