Six-Week Wonders

December 2nd, 2018

“Patience is a virtue, Mr. Glazer.”

A truly mind-blowing statistic emerged from the lips of hot-seat-sitting head coach Dirk Koetter.

And it’s a very positive one. Joe advises you to sit down for this.

Your beloved Buccaneers have 20 sacks in the past six games, and that ranks second in the NFL over that span.

So to rewind, in case you dropped your phone, the Bucs have the second-most sacks in the league over their past six games.

Wow!

Can this continue through the final five games?

Say the Bucs are 10th-best in the NFL at sacks through these last five games; would that prove Jason Licht met his offseason goal of building a legitimate pass rush?

If nothing else, the Bucs’ success over the previous six games should set a new expectation moving forward.

There will be sacks to be had. Still on the schedule are the Cowboys and Falcons, and they allow lots of sacks. (Yes, the Cowboys and their overrated offensive line.) Cam Newton takes his share, too, and the Bucs might face a rookie QB in Baltimore in two weeks.

Joe just couldn’t ignore learning the Bucs have the second-most sacks in the NFL over the past six games. This team has been so pass-rushed starved for so long. Perhaps that pain is finally over.

Great news! It will sure help the back end of our Defense if it works out that way.

  2. Mort Says:

The cowboys had a great O-Line… in like 2015. Only people that think it’s geeat today are folks who don’t actually pay attention to the NFL as a whole.

  3. it's only just begun Says:

has the arrow started to point up, on this dreadful season? stay tuned and find out later today, same bat time, same bat channel

  4. Buc believer Says:

Sure just like the Bucs to pour it on when there is nothing to play for… if you think we still have a chance please pass that doobie your smoking.

  5. AlteredEgo Says:

Cam Newton is going to cry today…

Positive sign that the change to Duffner as DC might be paying off. Today will be a huge for this Defense and for if we can get some positive momentum for the home stretch. Cam repeatedly disrespects them when we play. This one should be all about pounding him into the ground as much as possible and racking up some sacks or our LB’s leveling him when he breaks contain. Would hate to see us get out muscled again this game

We currently have a pretty good DL. JPP is a stud of course but Nassib seems to get better each week at the other end. Violent Vea is finally shaking off some rookie and injury rust and GMC still has talent. No he’s not Sapp and he’s not going to kick people when they’re down.

BTW did you read Joe’s Morning Roundup. Now Legarrette Blount has called Suh a dirty player. Is that rich or what? Blount who lost any chance to be drafted despite his enormous talent because he sucker punched an opponent from behind after Blount’s team lost. This would be like Sapp criticizing JW for his behavior with women.

Then again it takes one to know one so perhaps these are the guys with credibility to criticize.

  9. Dewey Selmon Says:

Everyone play a little looser when out of contention. What do you have to lose?

  10. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Please bucs win out so we can keep dirk’s offense

  11. RyJo Says:

I don’t know what this statistic says about about Jason Licht, but it sure says a lot about [FORMER] Defensive Coordinator Mike Smith. And by extension, it says a lot about Dirk Koetter for stubbornly insisting on keeping his good ol’ buddy Smith around well past when it obvious to everybody around that he needed to go. The defense certainly seems to be movin’ on up since the defensive shake-up.

  12. Not there yet Says:

Statistics are just way too important to this regime and generation. It’s where the losing mentality of Dirk Koetter drives me crazy. You’ve played basically 1 team in the last 6 games that is even in the wild card hunt and that’s the panthers

49ers, giants, bengals, browns, redskins, panthers

Browns, bengals, giants, redskins have horrible o lines, panthers and browns are average. Bragging about sacks in all this time knowing that they only won 2 of those games is just depressing. Let’s say defense is really improved… what does it matter? It means we do have a good group of players and this coaching staff is as pathetic as it appears. How about admitting the issues with pass defense

  13. Darin Says:

How many did Cam take first game? That Oline made the Bucs look bad. I expect the same.

  14. AtlBuc Says:

Last week Rhonde said that it seems as if the Bucs secondary has finally “got it”. Covering receivers has a lot to do with sacks and that was evident with the 4 interception, 4 sack day we had today against Carolina

  15. Fire Light Says:

Ronde Barber is annoying. A Bucs game with a CBS crew would be so much more enjoyable. Nothing against Kenny albert who is fantastic.

  16. Taylor Says:

@Fire Light…don’t watch on TV, take those free tickets that were offered today…oh wait you were probably one of the MANY leading the boycott. Welcome back
