John Harbaugh To Get Extension

December 22nd, 2018

Staying put.

There was chatter and speculation circling NFL back channels that the Baltimore Crows and Super Bowl-winning coach John Harbaugh may part ways after the 2018 season.

Harbaugh’s contract was set to expire after the 2019 season and the Crows have been to the playoffs just once since winning the Super Bowl for the 2012 season, Harbaugh’s only ring as Crows head coach.

It seemed Crows owner Steve Bisciotti, uncle of NFL Network reporter Taylor Bisciotti (gee, wonder how she got that job?) was growing impatient for another Super Bowl run. That, along with a 3-5 record, fueled speculation Harbaugh may be on the outs. The Crows are now 8-6.

But no. Last night, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported not only is Harbaugh staying in Baltimore, but Harbaugh is expected to get an extension from Bisciotti (Steve, not Taylor).

So there is one coaching fish plucked from the offseason.

So much for that rumor. Who’s next Riverboat?

  2. tmaxcon Says:

who’s next???? I’ll tell you who is next the last coach standing without any other options that is all the Glazers can attract to this mickey mouse organization.

  3. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Well one less coach but also one less job opening to compete with the Bucs.

IMO I would still have taken Jim over his brother. Jim is number 5 all time ( at least 50 games)in win percentage at .695, he was 44-19-1. A small sample size but still impressive and just goes to show the 49ers fires the wrong leader. I just remember the 49ers quickly turning their fortunes around and they were a force every year Jim was there ( I’m sure Fangio was a big part of that)
    Some other records:
Belichick 259-123-0 .678 Just for reference
    Tomlin 124-65-1 .655
    Arians 49-30-1. .619
    McCarthy 126-77-2 .618
    Rivera. 70-55-1 .560
    Caldwell 62-50-0 .554

I like Arians because he is an offensive mastermind. He somehow resurrected Palmer’s underwhelming career and he would have a similar receiver to LF in ME13. Also it would be great for Jameis and he could get the most out of him.

McCarthey I wouldn’t be so excited about,

Tomlin is intriguing but at the same time I think he is overrated.

Rivera would bring respectability to this defense and bring experience competing in this division.

The more I look into it though, the more I want Kris Richard. I talked to my coworker today, huge Cowgirls fan, and he told me Richard has single handedly turned their awful defense into a beast, holding the saints to 10 is no small feat. He didn’t want him to go anywhere. Kris Richard to me is a younger version of Pete Carrol and i hope at the very least we interview this guy.

    It’s a Bucs life !!!!!!!

  5. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Bucs made the Ravens look good enough to give Harbaugh his extension! oh boy! lol…

so much for an open audition for our team..

If Licht can bring in his friend Arians..he will save his job..

  6. Glenn Williams 3rd Says:

    It’s a Bucs life…$hyt!!!!🤦🏽‍♂️😂😭😆

  7. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Life of a Bucs fan- I said the exact same thing a month or so ago. I said the only way Licht keeps his job is if he can convince Arians to coach here. I wonder if Arians really will only coach in Cleveland or if he is just trying to up his salary.
    Can’t wait for next year

  8. Jean Lafitte Says:

He’s on the cusp of another playoff run so for Harbaugh it would be taking a step backwards. This doesn’t mean that he still won’t leave Baltimore but it’s pretty clear and not surprising those speculations were squashed immediately of any rumor of Tampa Bay. We will be the last franchise to hire a new system after all the other vacancies are filled. Or when the Glazer’s hire a virtually unknown ..again. That’s how toxic we’ve become as a franchise.

  9. Guzzie Says:

Reich and Nagy would’ve been nice, really need a coach who isn’t old school and can adjust their schemes, something Dirk and Lovie were ignorant at

  10. Guzzie Says:

Licht has to go too, 1 consistent Pro Bowl worthy draft pick In 5 years, OJ feel in his lap, Marpet is good but guards aren’t hard to find late, although they are trying their best to ruin him moving him every year

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DBS Says:
“So much for that rumor. ”

The rumor was for Jim. Not John.

  12. FortMyersDave Says:

What I’d like for Christmas is a decent head coach; I don’t care if its Richard, or Riverboat Ron or Eric Bienimy, etc as well as Tmax finding another team to troll. Dude is the most negative entity I have ever come across in my life and I have to agree with the poster that said last week it was probably due to his 2nd wife leaving him for his 5th wife; props to whoever laid out that smack!
If you hate the team then why consistently troll the board???

Anyhow; the trolls are going to say that the Bucs can not get a good coach. BS. Why? Money talks, that is why. The Glazer lads may be a lot of things but the boys do open up the checkbook to attract coaches if they so choose and can probably point out the fact that Florida has no state income tax, the pretty attractive quality of life, lower cost of living, etc to draw someone to One Buc. So when a moron says no one will come to One Buc, well he just shows his ignorance. Anyway you can install a mute button Joe????

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Arians 49-30-1. .619
    Rivera. 70-55-1 .560
    Caldwell 62-50-0 .554
    Kris Richard

Each of those options are available, and none of them would win here. Come on, people, you can do better than that.

Considering which direction the NFL rules against defense are moving, Kris Richard’s hard hitting defensive style won’t work either. His one stint as an NFL Defensive Coordinator lasted one year, and he had the worst passing defense in the league. Now he is a Defensive backs coach & passing game coordinator (a made-up title), and has only one decent year in Dallas, and you people think he is the answer?

I think some of you want Koetter gone so badly you’re not thinking straight.

At least Mike McCarthy has only 3 losing seasons in the last 13 as a head coach. none of the other guys have touched that.

Arians has less than half that many years at six years as a head coach, and was 4-1-1_on winning seasons. Gotta wonder why anyone thinks he would succeed. We already had the number one offense and still failed.

Out of all the names mentioned, Jim Harbaugh is the only tru e option. H e was an offensive and QB guru, yet his 49ers were also on of the best defensive teams…and this team needs two things to succeed: defense and a kicker.

So, unless Tony Dungy becomes team president or Rod Marinelli is fired and becomes our DC, the oltions aren’t impressing me yet.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Oh, and this is Rod Marinelli’s final year of his contract in Dallas I think. If Kris Richard is nearly as good as you people seem to think, odds are good that Jones gave him the made-up title with the intent of promoting him to DC later…and if he does well, he could be in the running to become HC of the Cowboys even later.

Think back to Mike Smith’s first year. He had seemed to do well. Fans and owners were afraid he would leave after a good year as DC. Kris Richard is in the exact same situation that Mike Smith waś in then. A one year wonder.

But him being there could result in Jones not renewing Rod Marinelli.

If we cannot get Jim Harbaugh, the a good lineup might be:
    HC Mike McCarthy
    OC Todd Monken
    DC Rod Marinelli

Then replace the rest of the defensive staff, except Buckner, and replace the OL and RB coaches.

  15. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Bonzai you talking about not being able to coach in today’s NFL yet you name two coaching dinosaurs and Bucs retreads. How about the fact that 2 of the 3 losing seasons McCarthy had was in the last two years? With arguably the best QB in the league.
    Or
Maybe we should keep your precious Koetter and his amazing offense that can’t run the ball. You can’t win in this league on a consistent basis without the threat of a run game, and when it gets to playoff time it’s defense that wins it for you. Koetter provides neither of those things.
Look I’m not saying the guys I like are better because I really don’t know what the outcome would be, but don’t act like you have any better of an idea. Marinelli has been a middle of the pack DC and I don’t think it’s a coincident now that Richard has been the play caller this season, that Dallasnis having its best defensive season since Marinelli was hired, fact.
Do some more research maybe instead of looking to the past for answers.

  16. D1 Says:

    Bonzai,

I’m 100 percent behind you on richards.
It’s amazing how fast some people are around here are to follow some pick, happens draft time like clockwork, that they just heard about . Knowing zero but wanting desperately to sound informed and up with whats trending, they get behind that guy with the conviction of a snake handleling suicide bomber .

I’ll offer an original idea, ARIANS has said what job he wants. Why people keep talking about him here is proof ndog has been right all along. If Arians takes the job with the browns, we make an offer that minute to their Oc and DC. Kitchens at hc.

Forget all the extra layers of management , cut to the heart of the problem and focus on a gm.
Now if you, I do, believe the Glazer’s can’t be in charge of finding a gm, don’t add to the list a president of op……just hire a consultant to get the job done. Don’t ever listen to business advice from someone with no experience and zero successes.

  17. FortMyersDave Says:

Alaska: damn! quit being so wordy and sum it up like this: McCarthy with great QB 12 wins, without worse than Tampa or 6 wins at best, Marinelli: old already lost 16 games….. That sums up what you conveyed in a lot of words No one is an expert here and IF you were you would not be posting here unless your name is TMax or Lakeland….. I like Ron Rivera but that is just me….

  18. Bobby M. Says:

I would still like to see the DC from the Bears considered….That defense makes Trubisky look capable. I think Winston is right around the same skill level as Trubisky.

  19. rrsrq Says:

    Arians as coach
likely Todd Bowles will be fired by the Jets (they have 3 pro-bowlers) so let him become your defensive coordinator with his attacking style. I think he plays a 3-4 alignment (since GMC can be let go – VV can take on the nose, and we can play JPP as a stand up or hand in the dirt, might also see what Spence can do).
We keep trying to live in the past success of our 4 – 3 alignment – I bet Bowles could get the most out of Kwon, LVD, Beckwith and Spence

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

So there is one coaching fish plucked from the season.

There is also one less team looking for a HC.

  21. Frank Pillow Says:

Taylor Bisciotti for HC, GM and Team President! Even if we lose, we win. 🙂

  23. BucFamous Says:

Can we please move on to coaching candidate articles? There’s nothing left to see of this season.

  24. DBS Says:

Bonzi as usual you don’t have a clue. The rumor was he was another coach that was going to be let go. You know. Not return?

  25. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Does everyone here really want to stay with Jason Licht ?
If you do, keep screaming for Bruce Arians, because if he comes to Tampa, Licht will stay.

  26. Tbbucs3 Says:

Go after Lincoln Riley. No more of these old heads. The players will respond to a young respectable coach.

  27. Tbbucs3 Says:

Those who want Jason Licht to stay don’t realize that he’s our biggest problem. Doesn’t matter who the coach is, thing wont change until “Lovies” GM is out.

5 years to build a team and last week we trotted out there with Adams, Josh Shaw, Javien Elliot, and Jordan Whitehead. Stop wasting our time with these borderline NFL players.

You need superstar players to win in any sport. We’ll it’s been 5 years and we only have 1-2 “superstar” players on the team.

  28. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

That is too bad. If we were going to get a Harbaugh, I would definitely rather have John (who actually has a personality and can relate with his players) over Jim.

  29. Ed Says:

Ravens want stability, Harbaugh has done an excellent job winning games in a tough division now with a wishbone quarterback who doesn’t turn the ball over and keeps a great defense rested while banging out first downs on designed QB runs. That’s what makes a good coach, ability to develop an identity and scheme that fits his players. How long has it been since a Buc’s coach has done that?

Koetter’s offense would work with a veteran QB that doesn’t flip out when the pressure is on. Matt Ryan and him fit because Ryan knows when to throw the ball away, could scan the field and get the ball out when the clock was ticking, finding the various levels of the tree route.

Jameis has never found that vision to see what they are drawing up in the film room, he has a lot of inability to see the field or the defenses and Koetter hasn’t helped him by adding a safety valve, we desperately needed one of the backs in the past few drafts, whether it was Cook, Kamara, Chubb, Michel, any of them would have helped this offense, but no Peyton Barber is the guy and before that Doug Martin. What a poor talent evaluator Licht has been.

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

Great point TBBF. The old yin and yang…we lose a candidate but also lose a competitor for that position.

  31. StoutGospel Says:

Anyone is available, for a price. I suspect, in unison with how PFT interpreted this farce of announcement as well, that Ravens wanted to start driving up the bidding war now, should they also need to quickly find their subsequent replacement.

JOHN Harbaugh would bring the kind of organizational credibility that Team Glazer should definitely strive for and absolutely pursue, especially in light of the way that current Bucs roster and management personnel are constructed.

Team Glazer….landing John Harbaugh would certainly make this non-season ticket holder purchase a game day ticket in 2019, and there certainly would be more like me out there!

The bucs could not get a Chrysler K car for that bum much less a fine car like a honda…

I’d love to see what happens if the Ravens choke down the stretch and miss out on the playoffs.

  34. Cobraboy Says:

What knowledgeable fan actually thought the Crows would dump Harbaugh?

    Common Sense > NFL Rumors

  35. SOEbuc Says:

Arians isn’t coming here. Jim Harbaugh is not leaving Michigan.

Riverboat Ron or Kris Richard. I’d like either. Richard would be much cheaper.

  36. James Walker Says:

I would give Koetter another year.
