The Jim Harbaugh Rumor

December 30th, 2018

Linked to Bucs.

Earlier this morning, uber NFL insider Jay Glazer dropped a bombshell that Team Glazer was in talks with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh to take over the Bucs.

Take over the Bucs last season.

There are all sorts of elements involved here for Joe to tackle. Is Team Glazer still trying to lure Harbaugh to Tampa Bay? Last week, former Bears scouting director Greg Gabriel, who still has his oars in the water with NFL big shots, let the following loose on Twitter.

Is one of those clubs still the Bucs?

The fact Team Glazer was talking to Harbaugh last year suggests Team Glazer is ready and willing to break out the checkbook. Harbaugh makes $7 million a year and has a clause in his contract if he leaves for another job before his contract expires, he will be hit with a $10 million penalty.

So why, if you are Harbaugh, would you leave for anything less than, say, $8 million a year?

Additionally, this sort of makes all the Chucky chatter about the lone coach in Bucs history returning to Tampa Bay a massive smokescreen to cover for the Harbaugh talks.

This news also seems to back up what Albert Breer of theMMQB.com reported last week when he said Team Glazer began sniffing around for a new coach as early as September 2018. Well, if Team Glazer was ready to lure Harbaugh out of Michigan last year, then yeah, they were ready to replace Koetter before the season even began.

This is all very interesting to Joe.

No way in hell does he want to be associated with the Glazers and their dysfunctional ways

  2. Warrenfb12 Says:

This would be a massive home run

  3. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

This is a long shot but I’m down for this!

  4. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

This is my 1a choice! I would be freaking ecstatic to get him. Shoot pay him 14M just get him!
    But
It won’t happen. Haha we all know it

  5. rick Says:

I would like this also. but you would have to give the guy 60% of the decision making. just my opinion.

  6. Darin Says:

Time to make a splash. Not my top choice but he is a real head coach. Definitely time to get one.

  7. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Michigan sucks they got blown out

  8. Bculaw Says:

Dream scenario, but I can’t see it playing out. My guess is it would cost $10M per if there is even a chance he leaves and the Bucs will not be the only team to open the wallet.

  9. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Agreed. I think Harbaugh is not a college coach. He’s at his alma mater and when you watch Michigan games, it doesn’t appear he’s having any fun. I don’t think he likes to go into living rooms of pimply kids and beg them to play for him and try to placate (look the word up most of you) the parents.
I think there may very well be a deal in place. I’m for it as well!

  10. MadMax Says:

    Harbaugh would be an upgrade.

  11. Bird Says:

I heard this is inside guy

    Wish it was bro.

He got burned by urban for ever never beat him
    Good pro with dual threat

  12. Buc50 Says:

As big as those kids are, there is a definitely a reason they are pimply

  13. Blackmagic00 Says:

You said uber lol. Anyway, I think this would be amazing.

  14. rrsrq Says:

Wasn’t impressed by what he did at Michigan, but we do know what he can do in the NFL. College is a different animal from the League. It will be interesting, not sure if he is worth 7-8 million though.

  15. ManzielMadness Says:

I was a fan of Harbaugh.. however he got completely outcoached against UF yesterday…

  16. rrsrq Says:

Let’s see what Pittsburgh will do if they lose.

  17. StoutGospel Says:

JOHN…Harbaugh. Not Jim. Please. Breaking the bank is fine, they have plenty of it courtesy of daddy and Man U.

    JOHN.

  18. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Stout

Agree I like John Harbaugh better. Jim is 1-10 against top 10 teams while at Michigan and winless against OSU. Biggest knock is he can’t win the big games.

  19. Troy Says:

I’d just like a coach who can get us into a big game.

  20. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Jim Harbaugh has the 5th highest win percentage in NFL history. (Has to coach at least 50 games)

  21. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Who the F cares what he did in college.
Jim Harbaugh has the 5th highest win percentage in NFL history. (Has to coach at least 50 games)

  22. MHBuc25 Says:

Jim Harbaugh would be coming to a team with a QB situation in flux, a roster in flux, an ownership that flat out sucks. He would have to be paid 15 million per year to leave Michigan. And tell the Glazer family to relinquish ownership.

  23. Bucs Guy Says:

John is all business and Jim is all ego. Get John if possible, but no big picks — we need them all. Jim would be an upgrade in the short term, but how long until he explodes?

  24. Boomer33 Says:

I can assure you that he was mad as hell about all of the players who opted out of playing the game against Florida because they were afraid of getting injured. He’s a pro coach not a college coach. Do it!

  25. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Alvin is going out on a limb and talking in the 3rd person. Jim Harbaugh – next Bucs coach!

  26. bucnut2 Says:

PLEASE NO!!! this guy is WAY OVERATED!!!!

  27. ManzielMadness Says:

    @Alaskan

People in Michigan say he needs to make his offense more creative… sound familiar?? I don’t think I can post links but a quick google search will tell you all you need to know. Again not bashing him, just saying, don’t think him walking through the front doors of OBP will magically fix all our problems.

  28. AlteredEgo Says:

Modern NFL millionaire players are not going to play for hard azz Harbaugh….

  29. DooshLaRue Says:

    Bird

    Are you drunk again?
    Not judging, just asking.

  30. Stevbobucsfan Says:

Talking about the Glazers dysfunctionsl ways, Jim Harbaugh brings alone his own baggage from what I here from around the NFL. JI’m doesn’t excite me much but maybe he can get the Bucs turned around

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

That means he’d have to make at least $17+ million in the first year. enough to pay the ten mill, plus match his salary.

  32. Jeagan1999 Says:

Not really excited by this rumor. Wouldn’t be my first choice…or probably even my second.

  33. Gman Says:

Should be fine as long as we don’t schedule Ohio State….would rather have John.

  34. Buccfan37 Says:

I secondeth, thirdeth and thousandeth agree with Harbaugh from Michigan as a potentially excellent choice for the Bucs. Doubt it, yeah some.

  35. Donuts Says:

I think Arians is a better fit than Jim. Harbaugh just got smoked in his bowl game so not sure why anyone thinks he has the answers.

  36. Demetrios Says:

You can bring back Lombardi and it wouldn’t matter as long as Licht is still drafting for this team.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Trade for Tomlin in a couple of hours when the Steelers miss the playoffs and the city of Pittsburgh is throwing a hissy fit.

Give up a #1 if you need to, just make them throw in Bell (I think they still can do that). Tomlin and Bell for a #1, sounds like a deal to me.

  38. Easy Says:

Please god no. Go after Dabo Sweeney!

  39. SOEbuc Says:

Noooo!!! After last night Harbaugh is now 1-10 against teams ranked 10 or above and this ain’t college. Soooo overrated.

  40. gambelero Says:

Get ready Joes. Huge day tomorrow on JBF, especially if the Glazers wait until later in the day to do the Black Monday stuff.

I for one will be checking regularly, trying not to cheat and check you know who’s twitter.

So, how often is “who’s” correct grammar? Not even sure it is this time.

  41. Sapp, STFU Says:

Someone please tell teh Glazers that getting another team’s retread is not smart. Players need to look up to a coach. They don’t respect a coach who is getting a gimme chance after running another team into the ground.

  42. gambelero Says:

    Too late. It’s already out.

  43. Bobby Says:

Are you kidding me!??? He would be a horrible choice. Mr Khaki Pants sucks.

  44. ncbucsfan Says:

Jim Harbaugh will make a commitment to running the ball!! O-line and Rbs will he his target since we suck at those positions. I’m all for it. Now if he can put the band together again and lure Vic Fangio out of Chicago for the same position….unlikely but a dream scenario!

  45. El_Buc941 Says:

Cut Desean Jackson and his $10ml and give that $10mil to Harbaugh! Easy as that!

  46. Cb13 Says:

    Kris Richard Bucs new HC
