Introducing Andrew Adams

December 2nd, 2018

Monster day. (Photo courtesy of Buccaneers.com.)

When Bucs safety Justin Evans got banged up early in the game it meant more playing time for reserve Andrew Adams. Boy, did he make a splash.

Adams hasn’t started all year for the Bucs. He was cut by the Giants and the Bucs picked him up in late September. He had a grand total of one interception to his name, and that came in his rookie year, October 2016, facing the Eagles and intercepting one of Carson Wentz’s two interceptions.

Today, Adams had three. Yes, three!

How big is that? Well, only two other Bucs players have pulled in three interceptions in a game this century. The last being Aqib Talib in October 2009, when he picked off Jason Campbell of the Redskins three times in a 16-13 Bucs loss.

The other defensive back who hauled in three interceptions? Ronde Barber did it twice. The first was December 2001 against Aaron Brooks of the Saints in a 48-21 Bucs win. The second time Barber pulled off this feat was also against the Saints in December 2005. There, Barber again stole three passes from Brooks in a 10-3 Bucs win.

No other Bucs player in franchise history has three interceptions in a game.

NFC defensive player of the week

  2. HeavyE Says:

    Great Game! AAA! Conte who????

  3. Buc believer Says:

Great jo today Andrew!!! It’s so nice to a player EARN his game check!

  4. JimmyJack Says:

Even before today Adams has been a solid player for us. Licht has a well know list of misses but he has found us some gems this year…….Nassib, JPP, Adams…..I would like to see more of this Harris dude too.

  5. Bucamania Says:

Agree, Adams has looked good when he gets in there but just stellar today! Always nice to see the stinking Panthers go down.

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

……….too bad Licht draft record is 50/50

I absolutely love the Carl Nassib pick up

    and hump was another GEM

  7. Bculaw Says:

Just hope he isn’t lost on this coaching staff like Keith Tandy, the *glue guy” that put the defense on his back for the second half of 2016, but couldn’t crack the lineup since because Chris Conte is “not as bad as we think he is.”

The defense has been lacking playmakers since Brooks was released. When a guy makes plays, maybe leave him on the field to make more.

  8. Dapostman Says:

Andrew Adams made the plays today BUT they were mostly because the DL put pressure on Newton and a bad pass was made. We all know pressure can cover up a lot of secondary ills and today they both worked in tandem.

  9. JimmyJack Says:

Bculaw……Your last sentence was great and I wanna piggyback and add that leaving ill-prepared players on the field is just as damaging.

I recall putting an injured Kwon on the field last year who clearly wasn’t ready. T.J. Ward never earned one snap for this team TBH.

Benechot has no business on the field and niether dir Javien Elliot today(I might forgive this based on so many injurys)……There are tons of examples of this every week and a big reason why Dirk is riding the hotseat.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

Dapostman….Absolutely. I hope the team keeps building that line and keep them strong.

  11. Howard Cosell Says:

“When the ball is in the air I think it’s mine, it’s not for the receiver”

“As soon as I see him locked and loaded I think it’s mine”

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Lol Cam is sad on TV and he is whining!!!!!

We did that. Proud of my team today.

  13. Howard Cosell Says:

    Lol Superman mad bro

  14. Howard Cosell Says:

Someone needs to make an Andrew Adams troll-face meme and sent it to superman

  15. jjbucfan Says:

This kid did great today!Another great find for Licht. We need to give him more scouts and build this franchise the right way. He is playing handicapped with one of the smallest scouting departments in the league.

Hey Joes how about an article on our abortion of a LT and the fact that Koetter still allows Benenoch to play at RG. I like Donovan Smith the man so I am not lobbying to get rid of him, just move him to RG- his feet are way too slow to protect JW3’s backside. He will get him killed on one of his many whiff blocks. JMO

  16. jjbucfan Says:

JimmyJack, agree with your comments on Benenoch, but let’s be honest, we have no idea what any of our young DB’s can do because they were playing in the worst defensive scheme in NFL history. Elliott played well today, even had a great break and INT. Ryan Smith got beat a couple times today but that is gonna happen in the NFL, otw he is playing better and better, needs to hold on to the ball-had 2 chances today. Mike Smith probably schemed at least 10 guys right out of the NFL, LOL

  17. Tom Edrington Says:

Was in the stadium for a first time in a long time and the defense was really impressive, up front, middle and the guys who had to show up and step up in the secondary…..that being said, this Cam Newton has lost speed and arm strength…..he couldn’t get ball in end zone for final play, they had to bring backup in to throw it 50 yards….but overall, great performance by a team that appears to be rebounding nicely!!!

  18. Hagen Says:

Call me crazy but if we beat the saints are we a legit contender for the playoffs?

  19. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Tom

Cam is suffering from an injury……..that’s why

  20. SOEbuc Says:

    JimmyJack

“Lol Cam is sad on TV and he is whining!!!!!”

I was asking myself during the game if he brings out his outfits that look like Pennywise the Clown would wear if he wanted to look like a pimp on a post game loss. Shouldn’t wear that when a Bucs second string secondary picks you four times douceb@g

  21. Rayjay1122 Says:

The Bucs are brilliant….they used their scrubs in the beginning of the season and when they get injured they replaced them with the real Pro’s.

Joking aside, I am always pleased after a win…. especially a division game….and most especially if it is the Stinking Panthers.

Go Bucs! Congratulations…nice win. Keep it going!

  22. JimmyJack Says:

Jj….I completely agree. I saw a poll Joe posted the other day letting fans vote for which position group they want the team to address.

Most fans voted DB but I think if we get away from that dumb scheme Mike Smith had us in we can see that our secondary is not the cruth we all think it is.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

jjbucfan – Ryan Smith did not play better today, at least in the 2nd half that I saw on TV he looked as lost as he ever did and gave up an easy TD when he was of course out of position, along with his normal down to down blown plays.

Difference was today, and last week for that matter, the defensive line got great pressure all day and was forcing Cam to throw the ball before he wanted to. I’m not sure how injured Newton is right now, but he clearly didn’t have the time he normally does to sit back and pick apart the defense.

Anyways people continue to want Ryan Smith not to be the worst corner in the NFL – I have no idea why, because he’s awful and hasn’t gotten any better – and even if he did improve 5000%, well zero times any number is still zero. Anywho Ryan Smith is who he is, a guy that runs around lost but has good speed, which he needs to catch people on his blown pass assignments.

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Ryan Smith had a bad game today but his coverage skills are much improved since last year.

That TD given up was one of the weakest efforts I have seen. There were also two players aside from Smith who could have made a play on that.

Smith looked like he was wearing a ball and chain. Not sure what options we had but I don’t want Ryan Smith playing redzone defense for me. Alsways said that about Conte but the coach’s never agreed apparently.

  25. JimmyJack Says:

Our redzone defense is a complete abomination.

This should be a test for the current coaching staff. Good coaching can fix issues like these. Maybe not completely but it should be expected to see us improve in that area.

  26. Waterboy Says:

His wiki page says he’s Cam Newton’s father lol.

  27. T REX Says:

    Great game!

  28. densbucs Says:

maybe the red uniforms is what helped today, maybe change new design with more red in them ? Does any body know how many games they won with these red ones ?

  29. 13frain Says:

Who messed with his Wikipedia site and put ..and is the father of NFL Quarterback Cam Newton.

  30. JimmyJack Says:

How do you let McCaffereny score a TD on you from the redzone without having an eye on him?

He is the first guy you should be focused on? WTF are we doing? Barkley did the same friggen thing to us. That’s BS coaching right there.

If Kamara gets one on us because we didn’t account for him I will come unglued!!!!!

And yes, I know that Whitehead missed his read there and should have covered McCaff. But he should be totally prepared to defend that play and there is no excuses.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

I will forgive our defense for giving up the 50 yarder down the sidine to McCaffereny but I cannot forgive our defense for not covering him in the redzone.

His wiki page says he’s Cam Newton’s father lol.

    Lolol it does……that’s freakin hilarious
    xD

  33. JimmyJack Says:

2nd place in the NFC South is in our grasp and wod be a sweet consolation prize for this season. Will be much sweeter if we win our final 2 home games yo make it happen.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

Stop staring at Cam Newton’s profile and please put the vadoline down boys.

  37. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – McCoy stinks, you hate Winston, yet you love Ryan Smith and think he has a bright future in the NFL. LOL!

That literally is the best summary of the Winston haters out there.

  39. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Haha McCarthy got fired

Can’t win with the best QB in the game? Bye bye

  40. JimmyJack Says:

Rod Munch you are manifesting opinions again.

I think Ryan Smith is a hard working player that could play a decent role and could possibly be a good depth player for us.

Your comment above is an abomination.

  41. JimmyJack Says:

McCoy had been a stiff this year but I’m cutting him some slack because of what he has done for us lately.

His last year games have been monsters. So long as he keeps it rolling I’ll change my view on him. He earned himself some credit last two weeks and I’ll give it when it’s due.

  42. JimmyJack Says:

    Last two*** not last year.

  43. Dapostman Says:

    Ryan Smith = Josh Robinson

DB depth and a gunner on special teams. Robinson turned that into 6 years in the NFL. Smith should be as lucky.

  44. FreeTheSecretWeapon Says:

    One more for the agenda

  45. Jerry Jones Says:

    Harris.

  46. stpetebucsfan Says:

This entire season is a reflection of our #1 draft pick in 2015.
It’s not on Koetter…perhaps Licht for making that pick.

After 3 1/2 frustrating seasons we seem to finally have found our franchise QB.

Koetter was severely handicapped from the beginning this year with JW’s three game suspension and his play until the past two weeks. JW got very close to being uncoachable a mortal sin in football. Koetter sacked up and benched the prima donna and it seems to be working.

It’s not that far fetched to at least suggest that if JW makes it to the HOF as so many here seem to expect…he will owe a lot of his success to Koetter who may have rescued JW’s career with his moves this season.

If we keep JW….and I support that…Koetter needs to stay as well…we now know that Koetter has the sack to handle JW.

As for DC….poor Duffner goes out and earns that job but everybody here is already talking about someone else.

I think there is a lot of change for the sake of change here.

  47. Bucsfan77 Says:

I would love to get McCarthy for HC, the only reason he was fired was his beef with Rogers, with his resume he will be the most sought coach next year.

  48. martinii Says:

Would be great if AAA could continue to improve. With this years rookies Carlson and Whitehead and guys like Elliot, Minter, Evans and Hargreaves DB may be less of a priority in draft and FA. Sometimes you don’t know what you have until they get a chance to play in actual game setting.

  49. SchwiftyBuc Says:

The only thing that comes close to being how crazy it is that Adams got 3 picks yesterday, is that Ryan Smith almost got his hands on 2 himself.

Makes you think of what this teams record might be if Dork had the foresight and wherewithal to see the complete and utter incompetence Smith was displaying all of 2017 and had fired him when he was supposed to.

Or jeez what our record be if we had fired him before the bye week and given Duffner 2 weeks to install his defense before the ATL game.

  50. Jonzey Says:

We found a weapon Put Evans and Adams back there

  51. MadMax Says:

Cam newtons father needs to keep starting….dude is earning his pay.

  52. BucEmUp Says:

As bad a s the coaching has been over the last five years, it’s hard to know what picks of lichts were busts….or were they poorly.coached and given up on. No Gm is perfect or close to it. Licht has been a good find. Even if a win streak does save this staff’s jobs I still want the glaziers to try andnlure Bruce Arians out of retirement to come.in and be some sort of assistant to the entire organization , I think Buckner and Licht could help lure him for the right price if the glaziers open the pocket book

  53. aj Says:

Ryan Smith, it’s hard for a coach to see all the talent and not think they can coach it up. Just is.

Personally, I think moving him to safety as a rookie really hurt him. If he would have stayed at CB things might be different now. But, he did also make a couple of very good plays yesterday.

Everyone on the defense missed plays yesterday. The difference, besides the d-line, is that there were 11 guys running to the ball yesterday. For almost every missed tackle, there were two more defenders converging on the play.

  54. TOM Says:

It was pretty cool seeing Duff all fired up on the sidelines. Defense seems to be playing off of that. Keep it going. Like our new starting DB’s

  55. jjbucfan Says:

Rod- I never said Ryan Smith is a good DB. I simply said we have no idea what ANY of these DB’s can do because Mike Smith’s scheme was so bad. I am a huge Jameis guy, graduated FSU ’94, wife ‘(&, kid just got accepted next year, so don’t lump me in with Jameis haters which you implied. I usually agree with you on most of your posts, but I do disagree with you here. Ryan Smith is a good ST guy. Also, He was a CB in college, our geniuses decided he should be a safety, so he lost a year of development at Corner and basically has to learn how to be a corner at this level. Do I think he should start, no way, but depth is always a need.

Example- Russell Shepard- great special teams guy, fair receiver in a pinch- aught a huge TD for the Giants yesterday because other receivers were hurt.

  56. joestang Says:

we seem to do better picking people off the street than drafting or free agency. Doesnt matter to me as long as they contribute.

  57. Owlykat Says:

Start Adams and Harris as our Safeties and even when Josh Evans is healed up he should not get another start until he learns how to be a sure tackler which he isn’t now. He does have playmaker skills too but not as good as Adams and Harris. Give Conte an injury settlement and lock up both Adams and Harris. We don’t need a Safety in next year’s draft either.
