Gameday Tampa Bay

December 30th, 2018

Game 16

Dixie Chicks (6-9) at Bucs (5-10)

Kickoff: 1 p.m.

TV: WTVT-TV Channel 13, DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket Channel 708.

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network (WXTB-FM 97.9 in the Tampa-St.Petersburg region; 97.9 FM ESPN Radio in Tallahassee); Spanish language broadcasts on WTMP-FM 96.1 and WMGG-AM 1470 in Tampa; SiriusXM Channel 105.

Weather: Per AccuWeather.com, it’s going to be a fantastic day. After morning fog burns off, upper-70s are in order for tailgating and kickoff temperature is expected to be 80 degrees under partly sunny skies. It should rise to 82 in the first half but by game’s end, the temperature should taper back to 80 without a threat of rain.

Odds: Per FootballLocks.com, Dixie Chicks-1.

Outlook: The right and just thing to do is to make sure the Bucs don’t win this game. Dirk Koetter, likely in his final hours as Bucs coach, has already announced he will not sit starters just for the sake of getting reserves such as Noah Spence (who?) or Ronald Jones needed snaps. A (meaningless) win by the Bucs today could knock the Bucs out of the top ten in the draft next spring. If the Bucs just miss out on a potential Hall of Fame player as they did in 2007, and last year, because they got dumb and won the last game of the year and screwed up the draft, don’t come crying to Joe. After all, Joe warned you.

Trinkets: The Bucs have recorded at least 500 yards of offense in five games this season. With one more game of 500 or more yards, the team will tie Denver (six in 2013) and Houston (six in 1961) for most 500-yard games in a single season. … The Bucs have 4,784 passing yards through 15 games. The team needs 144 more to pass Detroit (4,927 in 2012) for 10th-most, 187 more to pass New Orleans (4,970 in 2015) for ninth-most, 194 more to pass New Orleans (4,977 in 2008) for eighth-most, 224 more to pass New Orleans (4,997 in 2012) for seventh-most, 235 more to pass Miami (5,018 in 1984) for sixth-most, 291 more to pass New Orleans (5,074 in 2016) for fifth-most, 301 more to pass New England (5,084 in 2011) for fourth-most, 449 more to pass St. Louis (5,232 in 2000) for third-most, 564 more to pass New Orleans (5,347 in 2011) for second-most and 661 more to pass Denver (5,444 in 2013) for the most passing yards in a season. … Tampa Bay has scored 364 points this season. The team needs 24 more to tie 2000 for second-most (388) and 25 more to tie 2012 (389) for the most points in a season in team history. … Tampa Bay has 37 sacks this season. The team needs two more to tie 1987 & 1991 (39) for ninth-most, three more to tie 1979 for eighth-most, five more to tie 1983 & 2001 (42) for sixth-most, six more to tie 1999 & 2002 (43) for fourth-most, seven more to tie 1997 (44) for third-most and eight more to tie 2004 (45) for the second-most sacks in a season in team history. … Bucs RB Peyton Barber has 895 yards from scrimmage this season. He needs 105 more to reach 1,000 for the first time in his career. … Bucs WR Adam Humphries caught 10 passes at Dallas. With 10 or more receptions against Atlanta, it would mark only the second time in team history that a player has recorded consecutive games with 10 or more receptions (James Wilder did this against the Rams and Packers in 1984). … Malcontent WR DeSean Jackson has four receiving touchdowns of 80 or more yards and needs one more to tie the NFL record of five, shared by Derrick Alexander, Lance Alworth, Bob Hayes and Jerry Rice. Jackson also has 29 career touchdowns of 50 or more yards and needs one more to pass Randy Moss (29) for the second-most total touchdowns of 50 or more yards in NFL history. … WR Mike Evans has 1,418 receiving yards this season. He needs five more to pass Mark Carrier (1,422 in 1989) for the most receiving yards in a season in team history. Evans also has recorded 5,997 receiving yards in his first five seasons. He needs 175 more to pass A.J. Green (6,171 from 2011-15) for the fifth-most receiving yards in a players’ first five seasons since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger. … DE Jason Pierre-Paul has two games with multiple sacks this season. With one more multi-sack game, he will tie Chidi Ahanotu (three in 1997), Santana Dotson (three in 1992), Simeon Rice (three in 2001, 2004 & 2005) and Lee Roy Selmon (three in 1983) for the fifth-most multi-sack games in a season by a Bucs defender. … LB Lavonte David has 10 career interceptions and needs one more to pass Dave Lewis (10 from 1977-81) for second-most by a linebacker in team history.

Derrick Brooks Talks Coaching Change, “Brutal Honesty” From Players & More

It’s a new TAMPA TWO with Bucs legend Derrick Brooks and JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman. They’re not talking playoffs, unfortunately. Caldeco Air Conditioning & Heating is the proud presenter of TAMPA TWO, a joint production of The Identity Tampa Bay and JoeBucsFan.

    What I say about Joe as a journalist: Dallas’ Randy Gregory was fined $20,054 for a hit on Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston. Joe blamed Jameis when there should have been a penalty.

    Lose now to win more later or win now to lose more later.

    LOSE FOR SOMETHING

    Any team that loses for high draft picks, will always lose for high draft picks.

  5. westernbuc Says:

    Don’t call yourself “fans” if you want the team to lose.

    Especially for a marginally better draft pick

  6. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    Best pick we could have by losing is 4.
    Worse pick we can have by winning is 12.

  7. Elita Vita Says:

    At this point I feel winning last year to lose Barclay or Nelson WAS a loss.

  8. Pete I Says:

    Dirk = 19–28
    Licht = 27-52
    Winston = 21-32
    Since Malcolm’s Stroke = 77 – 130

    There may be no need to tank, losses seem to come naturally for this crew.

  9. Taylor Says:

    Never wish for a loss, HOF players can be found anywhere in the draft. Go Bucs, get that W
