Falcons 34, Buccaneers 32

December 30th, 2018

The Bucs nailed down one hell of a draft pick today!

Should we celebrate, or should we cry?

That’s an easy answer. Celebrate! The Bucs locked up what could be the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft — and they didn’t have to disappoint a percentage of fans by tanking at the Den of Depression.

Of course, that means the Bucs really, really stink, losing to a bad Falcons team after holding a 17-0 lead late in the first half. What a mentally weak bunch these Bucs are collectively.

On the field, the Bucs reminded everyone who forgot what Mike Smith’s wretched defense looked like.

Tips of the cap to Mike Evans, Adam Humphries, Chris Godwin, Peyton Barber and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, who all put up strong numbers and played extremely hard.

Also kudos to Jason Pierre-Paul for notching sack No. 12 1/2 on the season. Lavonte David did some good things, as did Brent Grimes, who looked like a guy who either was playing for a contract somewhere next season or a guy giving extra effort because it’s his last NFL game.

Stick with Joe through the day for more out of this game and the exciting hours to follow. A new coach is coming soon.

Awesome–Perfect outcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we won but we lost–could not of turned out better!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. D-Rome Says:

With that Matt Bryant FG, Jason Licht’s 5 year record is worse than Mark Dominick’s record. Don’t tell me he deserves another year, Bonzai! I’m sure you’ll disappear from the comments for a while as you usually do.

  6. RyJo Says:

I’m satisfied. I wanted the Bucs to lose for the higher draft pick, but I didn’t want them to embarrass themselves. It was actually an entertaining game! I look forward to reading about our new head coach tomorrow morning.

  7. Cometowin Says:

Love it!!! Played well and lost. Best for the team. Better draft pick and probably softer schedule. Ahh what might have been.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We blow a 17-0 lead at home to a division opponent and Joe & “fans” are celebrating…….

    The definition of LOSING CULTURE…..

  9. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Sorry tbbf – we are outside noise, the culture is in the locker room.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

Another kick to the gut to top off the season. Choked for an entire 2 quarters again when they outscore us 30-3. Just embarrassing.

Atlanta comes into our house and walks all over us.

Another season without a winning home record. 2-4 in our division & last place cellar team agai.

We get a top 5 pick because we truely are one of the 5 worst teams in the league. Another embarrassing seasons.

  11. Wesley Says:

Another embarrassing lose. Sooooooooo glad this season is over.

  12. Easy Says:

JBF are idiots for cheering for our Bucs to lose. Idiots!

  13. Knoxville Bucs Fan Says:

Well atleast the finale was entertaing albeit another defeat. Well all you hoping for a loss got your wish. Just hope whoever is gonna make the pick at #5 does “TANK” with a bust.

  14. Pete I Says:

    Dirk = 19–29
    Licht = 27-53
    Winston = 21-33
    Since Malcolm’s Stroke = 77 – 131

Updated Resumes – the Stats that matter to future employers

  15. Easy Says:

The one who wrote this needs his own personal “losing” of the waistline.

  16. JimmyJack Says:

TBBF at least we don’t have to hear about this begging for losses anymore.

These fans that love nothing more then to bend over for a division team got their precious loss they were rooting for. Now their opinion about it can go away…….Not have to hear about it anymore is a good thing.

  17. orlbucfan Says:

We should be pissed pff as h3ll! Any other team with the players on this team now would not have lost this game! 34-32, Give me a break!! The team is saddled with bad karma cos of ownership. This team belongs to its fans. Until a fan ownership group somehow buys the team, the bizarre bad luck will continue. Count on it!

  18. Alaska Man Says:

    Really? JFC. We deserve this.

  20. BuccaneEric75 Says:

JimmyJack, it was an embarrassing season even if we won 60-0 today.

  21. Troy Says:

I think I’m going to be done with this team for a bit. Nothing makes me more angry than this team. If the Glazers don’t fire everyone in the building, I don’t know what to do. I’ve been a fan since 76 and seen some bad teams. Lots of the bad was due to talent level. The badness now is due to coaching and this crap GM. They have to go. I think my blood pressure will thank me.

  22. Cometowin Says:

Best available player at cornerback, defensive end, offensive tackle or running back. Get me Mike McCarthey as head coach, Bruce Arians as director of operations and Jim Schwartz or Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator. Keep the same offense with Monken and give Jamies one more year to prove himself.

    Go Bucs!!!

  23. JimmyJack Says:

At least I can be happy about our draft slot now. We didn’t quit or cheat to get it so we deserve to get a good players. We would of deserved a bust had we lost on purpose.

  24. orlbucfan Says:

Fans? I don’t think so. More like a nuclear aircraft carrier filled with trolls.

  25. Alaska Man Says:

    Really? JFC. We suck.

  26. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    Only people happy are losers

    Like Joe

  27. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

This is what we asked for once we realized that we were not making the playoffs. Next is finding our new head coach and a renewed sense of direction. Hope that the Glazers have been busting their asses doing their research to find a replacement for Koetter. Scouting the college players for the new regime that are coming out is a thing that needs to happen now. And then so on and so forth. Put on your big boy underwear and big girl panties, strap on your seatbelts cause it’s about to get crazy !!!! Go Bucs !!!!!

  28. Tom S. Says:

Be grateful for the top 5 pick. We would’ve selected 5 last year and had Bradley Chubb or Quenton Nelson last year if not for Jameis last second TD to Godwin. That win was meaningless but the drop in the draft was not.

  29. Bucs 14 Says:

Don’t worry too much about draft picks fellas. Don’t fret too much with speculation. Buc’s management will blow it. We will probably draft a punter in round 1 cause our management is freaking clueless.

  30. sandwichman Says:

Like i said they root for the Bucs to lose. they are not real fans. dont believe the BS they publish #WalkAWAY

  31. Jeagan1999 Says:

Teams that make poor personnel decisions don’t win.

  32. ed Says:

Just don’t let Licht ruin this draft

  33. Dom is gone ... Licht Says:

Can’t wait to LICHT trade back and take an over rated DB instead of stud OL like the Heargraves debacle

  34. Doctor Stroud Says:

This was the first pre-season game of 2019, and a lot of players will lose their jobs after today.

  35. PoundTheRock Says:

It is not a loser mentality. A top 5 pick is looking to the future.

  36. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So, just how did winning a meaningless last game last year work out for us?

  37. Tampabaybucfan Says:

One of the very few places you get rewarded for losing…..whoopie!!! a better draft pick….I’m just thrilled….like I am most years, unfortunately.

    Frankly, I’d rather pick 32nd……

  38. AlteredEgo Says:

We saw what a good NFL QB can do today….Matt Ryan

  39. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

A wonderful loss! Totally out coached in the 2nd half. Dork chased points and it caught him with his pants down – again. This regime stinks out loud. If Jason Bud Licht survives this mess it’s only because he has naked pics of Darcy!

  40. snookman Says:

It has just been reported Dirk Koetter has ben let go. (WFLA 8) Jay Glazer Broke news.

  41. BrianBucs Says:

    They Stink. Period.

  42. Evo2706 Says:

What position we pick foesnt matter as long as we have the same GM picking the players. The higher the pick the more I worry with him. I do not trust our Current regime to pick the right players

  43. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let’s trade the pick and keep trading the pick until we have 33 4th round picks…..we seem to do better there.

  44. Pitt of misery Says:

Think I have to be done for awhile /I kmow it doesn’t matter but it does to my DR

  45. Pittsshore Says:

    JW: 3-9
    Fitzpatrick: 2-2

    Just saying.

  46. SchlomieBarmitzahCircumScissorStein Says:

    Change the uniforms.

  47. OneBucPerson Says:

Literally the perfect lose if there is such a thing, offense was great, D came up with some plays on occasion, and we still lost so we get a great draft pick. Now onto the mocks.

  48. AlteredEgo Says:

Maybe KC will trade for DJax.

  49. Howard Cosell Says:

Hope that the Glazers have been busting their asses doing their research to find a replacement for Koetter.

    Bwaahahaha !

  50. Howard Cosell Says:

Good timely loss though. A few draft slots can change history.
    Well done Bucs!

  51. PoundTheRock Says:

Unfortunately Dirk has to go. His loyalty Mike Smith, will cost him his job. D was way better in 2nd half of season, but still not good enough. Also, team is not ready to play early on the road. Other teams make adjustments at half, and we get outplayed in 2nd half. I just do not see improvement in these areas.

  52. Dewey Cox Says:

    Fitzpatrick 2 -5
    Winston 3 – 6
    Just saying

  53. MadMax Says:

Well, I’ll take Wilkins over Oliver if we go DT!

  54. StoutGospel Says:

To ALL the naive or shortsighted fools out there, calling a defeat today for the #5 or #6 seed in the 2019 draft EVERY ROUND…go read the last 3 days of ProFootballTalk on the sheer baseline brilliance of losing the last game of any “disappointing” season (W/L). Trust me, Mike Florio, his articulation, and his rationale of pure intelligence is far more educated, far more interpretative, than your obtuse existences, for anyone crying overly “moral”, quasi-ethical, or whatever you types construe it…as.

It’s a HELL YES…for the LOSS, the #5/#6 pick, and the good game by Jameis…for the next regime.

Say a prayer somehow…it’s JOHN Harbaugh!

  55. Darin Says:

Celebrate. Just as i was pissed when we beat the aints last season. Once youre outa the dance plan for the next one. Still shocked a klueless team won the first 2 games. This feels like a repeat of last season except we lost today. Now glazers whata ya do? How about do whats 2 years overdue and start firing them all. I was kinda in the licht camp thinking he was handcuffed by these coaches but now i say start fresh. Fire em all. This chit show has lasted long enough.

  56. Bucs Guy Says:

Clean house of Licht and Koetter. Get a proven GM and coach.

Trade DJax and McCoy for draft picks and getting FA $. There are others to look at dumping like ROJO, Spence, Gholston, Anger and Conte. Grimes is done. Only re-sign Winston, Smith and Kwon to 1-year prove it deals. Need to addres secondary (P. Peterson or Darby), RB and G in trades/FA.

Then focus on Defense and Tackles (need left and right) in the draft. I doubt he’s there at #5, but I would love DT Q. Williams from Alabama. Vea and Williams would set the middle for the next 10 years.
