BSPN: Mike Evans Was Hosed

December 20th, 2018

Jobbed by Pro Bowl voters.

Bucs receiver Mike Evans was wronged.

That’s the word from an NFL insider for the four-letter. If Evans has a decent game Sunday in Jerry’s World, he will become the single-season record holder for the Bucs with receiving yards. But apparently that wasn’t good enough for Evans to play in an exhibition game.

Mike Sando of BSPN had a short list of players he believed got the shaft by Pro Bowl voters and in that list he includes Evans.

Evans has more yards than Thielen on 31 fewer receptions while aligning outside 88 percent of the time and catching passes 15.7 yards downfield on average. He has made explosive gains on 47 percent of his receptions, most in the league among the 39 wide receivers with at least 50 receptions this season.

Here is the type of season Evans is having: Evans needs 95 more receiving yards to pass Mark Carrier (1,422 in 1989) for the most receiving yards in a season in Bucs history.

If Evans can get 265 more yards this season, he will pass Bengals receiver A.J. Green (6,171 from 2011-15) for fifth-most receiving yards in a players’ first five seasons since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger.

If Evans pulls that off, could we someday be talking about Evans having a bust of his likeness sitting in Canton?

It seems Evans mouths off to more than the Refs….DB’s and Refs have long memories…learn to play the big picture Mike !

  2. miken Says:

Mike didn’t even have a great year for him. Had a few drops in big spots and looked like he was half asleep at times…. and he was still at a pro bowl level. Tells you how damn good he is. Love #13!

  3. zzbuc Says:

by far the best and more professional player we´ve got alongside JPP

  4. Knack2Babbyyyy Says:

No Buccaneers on the NFL top 100 list this year, and none selected to the pro bowl either. Mike will probably get in since he’s a 1st alternative, but he definitely got snubbed this year. It’s all a popularity contest and since Tampa hasn’t been relevant in a while, the great players on this roster get overlooked.

  5. 813bucboi Says:

yeah, he was hosed….him and JPP

    #REALISTKNOWSNOTHING!!!!!….#ADIOSDIRK!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Sucks to play on a losing team.

What are you talking about and what do refs have to do with pro Bowl voting? He’s supposed to talk trash to DB’s especially since he’s backing it up…..stop hating on a consistent player and give the man props…..something is wrong with a lot of posters err pesters in this site

    AlteredEgo,,

We may not agree on alot but man you are dead frikking right about Mike learning to forget about the refs and thinking big picture. Can you imagine if he gets the refs off his back???… how LETHAL he will be???? — yes, its early still, but Canton is NOT out of the question if he keeps this going for awhile

  9. Dlavid Says:

Mike did not deserve it this year … for every positive he has a negative . Looks for a flag after every target he does not haul in , he has toned it down a bit from previous years but still looks around every time as if to say “where you at Ref “ . His yac yards are horrible , slightly improved this year but only slightly . He is not a take it to the house receiver , he is a great possession reciever and durable . Of course he suffers like the rest of the team from playing on a perineal loser .

    Cure illiteracy in 2019

  11. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ Kinda feels like you are nitpicking a bit… the NFL Hall of Fame is littered with receivers that have Mike’s very attributes in his game, while not necessarily being the biggest “after catch” guys.

He is the closest thing we have had around here to a bona-fide superstar since the Brooks/Sapp/Lynch/Barber days. He pretty much has our entire fanbase in unison in loving the guy….. which says alot these days.

  12. Loyaltotheend Says:

When I watch Evans I never feel like I am watching a dominate elite player, he’s very good but Buc fans tend to overvalue players on our roster

  13. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

@Loyal,, Shannon Sharpe disagrees. #13 is always one of the first 4 receivers he mentions as “great”.

  14. LakeLand Says:

Garbage time stats don’t get you into the Pro Bowl

    ME needs more TD
    More YAC

And he need yardage in crucial moments

  15. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^ We haven’t had any “crucial moments” since he has been here. Hopefully we will have some soon. When we do, he will be there as he always is.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

Mike has also looked a little banged up the second half of the season. He’ll take a nasty hit and get up slow and walk to the sidelines. I’m always like “Oh $hit.” Then he’s in the next play %100. I could honestly say he’s the toughest WR in the league. You don’t get 1,000+ yards five years in a row by being stay puft 93.

WTF!!!! DUDE IS SECOND IN THE LEAGUE IN RECEIVING YARDS AND HAS THE MOST OVER THE PLAYERS IN THE 1,300!!!

GOT HOSED ON AN EXTREMELY SNOWY DAY AT LAMBEAU FIELD WITH A FIRE HOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

^^^^ Great post again, SOE. — its like we are watching from the same living room, lol

    “Uh oh…. #13 is out”

    ….couple of plays later
    “whew, he is back”

He is tougher than alot of people realize. There is a on that not alot of guys before him have had those consecutive 1,000 yard seasons like he has. — He is willing himself back in to that field sometimes when he probably shouldn’t be.

  18. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    (There are not)

phone keeps inserting random letters lol

  19. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Biggest problems Mike has are attitude and maturity. With about 5 minutes left on the clock in Bmore and our D desperately trying to stop the Ravens and get the ball back for the offense , what do we see when the camera gives a sideline shot? Mike is sitting on the bench laughing it up with another Buc who is standing in front of him. You are down by 8 with 5 minutes left and you cannot think of anything more productive to do with your time? Total lack of discipline from the Coaching staff to allow that kind of foolishness to ho on when the game still hangs in the balance. Mike also has a lack of control of his temper and a lack of ability to keep from drawing unnecessary OPI penalties. Fire Koetter and bring Tony Dungy back as President of Football Operations with total oversight of this embarrassing excuse for a franchise.

  20. Maze Says:

Yeah he has a chance. But he’s got to stop crying for flags all the time

  21. Issaic haggins Says:

XX he’s a whining lil bitch and himself caused himself to not get chosen .

Mike needs to learn how to accomplish his goal not satisfy his emotions !!! Mikes emotions trump his and the teams goal and that’s why he isn’t in the pro bowl !!

Have passion and competitiveness with integrity ( lead) or with whining , crying , bitching and emotional childish displays ( Mikes Way ) !!!
