Yeah, The Defense Stinks

November 18th, 2018

Too much.

The defense played about the way Joe thought the defense would play.

The Bucs defense was miserable today.

But Joe cannot bang on them too much. After all, what did we expect? The NFL’s worst defense has how many starters out with injuries? And the Giants have three skill position players who may be the best at their positions, Saquon Barkley, Odell Beckham and Evan Engram.

When America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, came out of the bullpen and got the Bucs within a field goal, what did the Bucs do? They coughed up a key play with a huge Eli Manning to Engram play that was basically the spike in the heart of the Bucs’ comeback.

How awful was the defense? Today was the most points the Giants scored in three years. And the Giants have had a playoff team since then.

But again, what did we expect when you had practice squad fodder starting on defense trying to stop Barkley, Beckham and Engram along with a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback?

“I thought we fought,” Jason Pierre-Paul said on the Buccaneers Radio Network. “When we fought, we fought. But they had more [takeaways].”

    The defense is beyond horrible

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I know plenty of fourth graders that can play better defense than the bucs secondary

  3. BrianBucs Says:

Love my Bucs, but this entire team stinks. FIRE EVERYBODY starting with GM Jason Licht

  4. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I was shocked every time the Giants had to punt. I remember a time when I was shocked that the other team didn’t have punt. Sad times now.

  5. D-Rome Says:

This is on Jason Licht first and foremost.

  6. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Our good DL on paper is terrible in real life.

  7. Bucs Fan #7423 Says: Says:

Whether the starters or backups are in, teams still score 40 points on us. This whole coaching staff needs to be purged

  8. BuccaneEric75 Says:

And our linebackers never heard of a gap

  9. Rod Munch Says:

The best defense is an offense that scores 40.

    Said that all year.

40 gets the W today, that’s the standard the offense has to live up to.

  10. Buc believer Says:

The defense doesn’t stink it downright SUCKS!!!

  11. adam from ny Says:

we are basically the worst team in the nfl since flying out the gate to a 2-0 start….sort of like we caught the league sleeping as teams were still acclimating to the regular season early on…

since then we are basically 0-8…with our lone win against the browns – and on a lot of levels that game didn’t really feel like a win…but it qualifies as a win…so we’re 1-7 since the bullsh!t start…

we might be the worst team in football…and can’t get a single turnover…this defense is simply just horrible…how did our roster even get to the point of this group being put on the field…baffling!

    Joe,

Time to write a “Hey it ain’t all bad, at least our kicker made field goals” article

    JOHN HARBAUGH TO TAMPA.

Proven head coach that could build a competitive team with a good defense.

No more coordinator hires especially within the program. Clean house completely on the Lovie Smith era. No more Litch No more Koetter. Any body who has a whiff of Lovie in One Buc Place is gone. Opportunity for a fresh start coming up,

  15. Rod Munch Says:

BuccaneEric75 – You mean no one has ever heard of who we have playing at LB.

Give me a break people, the Bucs went into the year with Chris Conte and Ryan Smith starting – and they’re done 7 players from that! The defense is so injury ridden there is no chance at success, keeping the opposing team under 40 is a good week.

  16. LakeLand Says:

    Yeah the defense stinks

And the offense stinks just as worst
    4 more turnovers
    29 turnovers for the season

    -23 Turnover Ratio

  17. Waterboy Says:

Koetter should’ve brought in a new defensive coordinator this past offseason.

  18. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    True true

    the kicker played lights out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL

  19. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    How about an additional

POTENTIAL 3 extra turnovers by JaMEIS – one fumle and two INTS????

come on now bucs fans……don’t live with JAMEIS blinders on

  20. John B Says:

When your starting 11 are by far the worst in the league, should we be happy 6 backups held them to 38?

Brent Grimes, the train hasnt left the station, pls grab a coffee and DJax, head out, this is a contact sport – you and Him are stealing money from the team

Let’s lose em all and try to get the 2nd pick, you know Gruden is gonna screw up the first one!!!

Maybe the new regime will use it more wisely

  21. R.O. Says:

Riley Bullough was horrible.. constantly out of position in the run game.

  22. Chris Cotten Says:

When you turn it over that leads to points wtf do you expect, a lot of dumbass fans on this site, Barber was good, JW3 was good, other than the fumble that miraculously led to a TD, not sure what to do with the staff, I think Licht needs to go, his talent searching is way below mine, I’m available Glazers

  23. Bucs Fan #7423 Says: Says:

You guys keep talking about draft picks, ur putting the cart before the horse. We need a good GM to make good draft picks first!

Who cares draft picks we get when we don’t have a GM that can draft the good ones?

  24. chris l Says:

he said they had more takeaways? they had more takeaway (singular). it is impossible for the bucs to get a takeaway. wow

  25. LakeLand Says:

Again the Bucs get over 500 total yards of offense and lose the game

    Stats are for losers

  26. lurker Says:

    hahahaha

omg fourth graders! what a burn. classic.

    ummmmm, no

  27. Tom S. Says:

But I thought firing Mike Smith would fix everything Joe 😂 You mean it’s the personnel?

The Redskins had a ton of injuries last week against the Bucs and still won in a laugher. Injuries happen to all teams.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

LakeLand – Said it all year but when you’re down by 21 points in the 2nd quarter, what do you think is going to happen with turnovers? You now must force the ball down the field, that leads to mistakes.

Now in this game Fitz wasn’t down by 21 points, yet turned it over to close the 1st half and to open the 2nd half, then you had the deal where you have to press to get back into the game. The Bucs ran the ball they best they did all year today, had over a 150 yards rushing, didn’t matter.

In any case the defense is a lost cause at this point – it’s why I said early this year, as in after game 2, to trade for Bell. Obviously Fitz wasn’t going to have the best season in the history of football and could collapse back to earth, and a legit passing back in this already amazing offense would be really impressive, and might have let the Bucs have a chance since we know the defense isn’t going to stop anyone not named Foles or Alex Smith.

  29. lurker Says:

we know grimes is gone and done.
    miko tweeted so.

  30. Rod Munch Says:

RO – Joe Dirt was a great story on Hard Knocks, but it’s obvious he doesn’t have the speed to play at the NFL level. Best case was he’d become the most knowledgeable guy on the defense, know everything inside and out, always be in the perfect place to overcome him being (at least) a half step slow, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. But yeah, he’s a huge liability out there, but he was also like 7th on the depth chart, so that tells you how the year has gone.

  31. LakeLand Says:

    Rod Munch

    The offense turns it over
And the defense can’t create turnovers

This is a recipe for disaster

  32. Tc Says:

Well, at least the kicking looked good!

  33. Tc Says:

We need a good d coordinator and some real cornerback and safety talent

  34. Anonymous Says:

I didn’t even see Vita Velcro in on goal line defense…what a bad pick…

  35. LakeLand Says:

I still don’t understand the logic of the Yucs. Depending on a 36 year old journeyman QB to get them into the playoffs, FitzTragic is on his 7th team. Has never played in a playoff game during his 14 years in the NFL.

The Yucs are a disgrace to American Football

  36. Tc Says:

I love a balls to the wall offense. Joe willie used to throw 6 interceptions one week then 6 td’s the next. I used to love air corneal, throughly entertaining

  37. Cgmaster27a Says:

Bucs anthem for fs sake move on. No one cares about your “almost” turnovers. You know they dont show up on a stats sheet right. It must kill you seeing jameis play good.

  38. Tc Says:

    Air correal

  39. Bucs 14 Says:

Let’s face it. We are now the Browns.

  40. Buc4life24 Says:

But don’t tell our defense they stink or call out their inept fundamental play, even if you are a HOF from a SB championship team!

  41. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Does anyone know if JPP hit 10 sacks yet? If not, he should be pretty close. Carl Nassib seems to be a keeper too. I hope he develops into DE opposite of JPP. Didn’t have a chance to watch the game – did Vita Vea even play? I see no stats for him.

  42. Troy Says:

Listen. This team is done. I’m waiting for a winner to make an evaluation of this roster. I don’t think we have 13 NFL worthy players, contrary to what others believe. I’m assuming a winner will make the same evaluation as I have.

  43. LakeLand Says:

    Troy

This team has a garbage roster

Most of the starters will be backups on another team
This team backups will probably be out of the league
    When the Bucs release them

  44. Cobraboy Says:

I’m all in for a 3-13 season and top 3 pick.

  45. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

They were laughing on the post game show saying “well the Giants were playing the Bucs!” So embarrassing!

  46. Rod Munch Says:

LakeLand – Yeah, of course you can’t turn it over, but it’s a chicken and egg deal, if you force the ball you’re more likely to turn it over, and the defense generally has you down big in the first half so you have to force the ball. That wasn’t the case today, but that’s been the case for most of the year.

We need to see what the game situation is in each turnover, was the Bucs down, up, what was the down and distance, etc, then what is the outcome of the following drive by the opponent.

Would be an interesting chart to see, if anyone knows where that info can be found let us know.

  47. Oneilbucs Says:

Man I’m tired of hearing almost turnover that don’t make no sense . What do almost mean to any body ? When people play the lottery what do that means to say I was almost a millionaire. That don’t mean nothing. So please stop saying almost. We all most made the playoffs 10 years straight. That don’t mean nothing. So stop with the almost. Eather you did or you didn’t.

  48. TOM Says:

There are only a handful of players that I would consider keepers. OFF: Evans, Godwin, Howard, Humphries, Marpet & Jensen. DEF: Evans, Whitehead, JPP, Nassib, Davis, possibly Beckwith. I think thats about it. About Bullough I know he’s barely a backup but I think he actually played better than Bond.
