What’s Going On With GMC?

November 11th, 2018

Is something wrong?

Joe wonders what has happened to stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. He’s not playing like his normal self.

GMC, 30, was expected to blow up this year because this franchise, which has been allergic to signing or keeping pass rushing defensive ends for over a decade, finally broke down and got a competent defensive end.

Finally!

With the addition of Jason Pierre-Paul, offenses were supposed to quit double-teaming GMC every snap and he would be set free. But thus far, GMC hasn’t made much of an impact. It has even caught the eye of jet-flyin’, kiss–stealin‘, data-analyzin’, Bucs-film-studyin’, limousine-ridin’ Thomas Bassinger of the Tampa Bay Times.

The Bucs defensive tackle hasn’t been as effective a pass rusher as he has been in seasons past. He is generating a pressure once every 14 snaps, down from once every 10 last season. Perhaps McCoy, who missed two games last month because of a strained calf and is known to play through injury, is still on the mend.

Yeah, something weird is going on here and doesn’t smell right.

Joe has to wonder if this is all just a coincidence or maybe Father Time, who is undefeated, might be catching up to GMC. Or perhaps, as Bassinger noted, GMC is playing through an injury that is diluting his skills?

Cancer93 has been and always will be a fraud.

  5. Buc believer Says:

He got his period! Seriously I think it is because JPP is showing him up and I believe that he doesn’t have the stones to try to improve. WHAT HAPPENED GMC LOVERS??? THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HIS YEAR BECAUSE OF JPP???

  6. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

As long as everyone is kissing her arse and putting cameras in front of the me first cryin clown she is happy. Once the attention is focused on anyone else, her true lack of character comes shinning through. Its about feelings for the crying clown not victories or team first it has always been me first with cancer93… selfish attention hound nothing more. The great first step to nowhere has translated to basement titles and blowout dance parties

Aumnmmm obviously u guys don’t work out or are athletes

    When u have a sore muscle/strain/injury
It affects your preformence and will be noticeable when playing at a professional level

  8. Warrenfb12 Says:

    He’s not that good

  9. LakeLand Says:

If I have an injury that serious I wouldn’t be on the field, embarrassing myself
Especially playing for one of the WORST defenses in NFL history

But the thing is, GMC hasn’t done anything ALL YEAR
I guess he’s been injured all year

What’s wrong with Gerald McCoy? Joe your guess is as good as ours; we go out and get him some help with JPP and instead of having a career year he chooses to suck…

Honestly speaking I can overlook the inconsistencies on offense; I’ve been a Buccaneers fan for over 30 years so unfortunately I’ve come to expect that over the years…Heck, I remember when our best offense was our defense and our kicking game and three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust with Mike Alstott…

The defense on the other hand I expect to be great because that is the standard set from day since Lee Roy Selmon…You can’t control god given talent or experience but what you can control is your effort…And as far as the effort is concerned with this defensive group in particular(with the exception of a few) I just don’t see it; not even from Geraldini…

  11. LakeLand Says:

Where was the serious groin injury
When he and Kwon was on the sidelines doing

    The YUC Shuffle

  12. SchwiftyBuc Says:

He’s sad. Most likely because he’s accepting the fact that his body is rapidly beginning to fail him. And that means that the end is near, and he’s coming to terms with the fact that he’ll never reach the playoffs. Which in turn means that he’ll have been a career loser.

    Yep.
Jason Licht passed on Arron Donald.

  15. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Mentally weak low character players always wilt when outshined. If he was a true man of character versus a fraud who plays the god card to receive a free pass. he would not quit when the going gets tough if he was a true man of character… just another bad character hypocrite career loser with no heart that choirboy loving bucfan was fooled by

  16. Dooshlarue Says:

Maybe that dinner he hosted the other night didn’t serve ice cream?

  17. Marine Buc Says:

    Please retire early.

  18. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Whatever it is…this has to be his final 1/2 season in a Bucs uniform. The Bucs brass won’t pay him 13 million with no cap ramification if he’s cut…will they?! Licht might ( see Doug Martin debacle )…so I say “Let There Be (No)Licht!”

  19. Buc1987 Says:

Perhaps the arrival and play of JPP has shown him what it actually takes to be great and that the Top 100 list and Pro Bowls are BS like a few fans on here say all the time….

  20. Bucnjim Says:

I guess the excuses are just running out. The beginning of the season everyone was say with the help of JPP McCoy will be tearing it up this year. Well JPP is making him look stupid out there. This is what a good player looks like! Some who gives 100% every single play. That has never been McCoy and now that we have someone that plays the game with passion you can see what fans have seen for years……..Nothing!

  21. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

No franchise is as dysfunctional as bucs in any sport

  22. Dre Says:

Lol play thru injury …. okay

  23. ATrain Says:

    McCoy is good

Tampa but him as an Elite

    He is not period

  24. Dre Says:

McCoy should not be considered good nothing… a guy who robbed the glazers …and didn’t even give a thank you ….Robbed the fans of enjoyment for 8 years …. never has been never will be considered great … he’s absolutely trash

  25. NO FEAR... Says:

HE’S BEEN THROWING IN THE TOWEL….

  26. Danr Says:

As soon as I read the title I thought. Here comes the annual injury excuse with gmc.

  27. Bobby M. Says:

He’s on the decline….no matter how you slice it. Body and mind….he even said it, 9 yrs of losing, he’s done talking about it.

There’s also a matter of he may no longer be the focal point in the scheme….JPP is producing sacks and plays….McCoy might not be getting his number called the way he was accustomed to in the past because he’s simply not as efficient as JPP. We would have to know what his role/responsibilities are….which isn’t so obvious. There’s a piece of me that thinks if the Bucs were winning, McCoy wouldn’t have any issues with playing second fiddle….but he loves the attention and JPP is filling the stat line taking away from his usual focus. I’m guess that is eating at him a bit….particularly while losing.

He’s still a very fundamentally sound, effective player….but his value isn’t worth $10 million he’s making. You cant be the leader of the defense that might go down as the worst in history and say you’re worth that. We could be the worst ever with or without him. Should have unloaded him and David at the trade deadline for whatever we could have got. The Patriots do this all the time…let that guy go just before he declines and get youth on the upswing at a cheaper rate to replace them.

  28. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’ve been saying it for many years……..GMC IS OVERRATED.

……he always has been and always will

If he was a DT on any other team, he wouldn’t have been praised and he would’ve never gotten a 100 MILLION dollar contract that the bucs gave him many moons ago.

McCoy is a good DT but never great or game changing……AND THAT’S A FACT!!

  29. Conte Piscatelli Says:

I don’t really see anything different. Still jumps offside on the hard count at least once a game, and fails to make plays when they are needed. Same GMC I’m used to.

  30. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    and WTF?!?!?!?!?!

DOES EVERY SINGLE DAMN ANALYZER/EXPERT ALWAYS………..bring up some excuse for his poor play?????

    OH….its:

    – WELL he doesn’t have help on the defensive ………..WRONG (see JPP)
    – He’s playing throught injury…….WRONG (that’s every year, right?)
    – HE’s getting double teamed…….WRONG (review game tape..untrue)
    – HE’s in the wrong defense………WRONG (how many coaches he’s be thru?)

    ……

JUST STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR THIS ANCHOR WEIGHING DOWN THIS TEAM AND ORGANIZATION!!!!!!!!!!!!

    STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. EA Says:

Hopefully we can land one of the Harbaughs, and someone with good football IQ in the front office. This team has a losing mentality right now and it takes strong leadership to turn it around which is what this team lacks from top to bottom.

  32. EA Says:

With a good Head Coach this team can have a top 5 offense and a middle of the pack defense….. and the record would be much much better, it’s a waste of all these weapons on offense…. Dirk doesn’t know how to get their full potential.

  33. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

    Ea

Glazers have no intention of fielding a respectable product. what makes you think any coach with half a brain would even consider this franchise based on nearly 2 decades of dysfunctional failure. There are high school coaching jobs in texas that are far more prestigious than coaching the worst professional sports franchise on planet earth. Glazers simply don’t care. 4 or 5 bad years is a slump nearly two decades of dysfunctional embarrassing football is not even trying. It hardly makes Tampa bay Buccaneers an attractive job for anyone much less a winner with choices.

  34. Ndog Says:

No Joe this is him every year, just for some reason this year you are noticing.

  35. Architek Says:

    Ahhh who cares

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

You could reasonably argue that he is his old self. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

  37. Bucsalltheway Says:

The real.question is what’s up with justin Evan’s

  38. Buc believer Says:

Face it Batman your shtick is finally been unmasked. YOU and YOU alone have turned the fans against you with your self promotion and your lack of TRUE desire for greatness. Not the fake desire we as Buc fans have been force fed.

  39. adam from ny Says:

ship him to pittsburgh to freeze his keesters off

    #TheFishThatSavedPittsburgh

  40. Zwak Says:

We rate our best defensive player by how many pressures he gets not sacks or tackles! Nothing has changed Joes he’s playing the same, one sack per game but has a great get off..

  41. Ray Rice Says:

No No No…But…But…But. But he made the pro bowl and top 100 list. He’s good right? He’s the NFL’s best kept secret. He gets quadruple teamed every other play. Only if he had help……….Man F all you MF’s that spouted this BS. Geraldine McBooty has been garbage since day one. YUCS were better off skipping that pick or just losing it. They would have gotten a better result.

  42. tmaxcon Says:

I accept all apologies from the nuthuggers who are now seeing the light. Cancer93 has been a complete fraud. it took some sheep longer than others. Same ole bucs… i also accept apologies from the delusional optimists who were once again nutpunched by this minor league franchise. Being always right is a burden at times that being said i love educating sheep

  43. BucEmUp Says:

It’s either an injury, or his ego has taken a hit with JPP coming in and being an animal. I’m banking on injury but as Ive also said almost every year that this team is slowly losing their will to play every Sunday because they know its all for not. They know the coaching staff is one of the worst in the league and they know its not playing for any purpose. It’s like watering a dead tree. Eventually you’re going to realize it’s just a complete waste of time and effort no matter how much someone is paying you to water that tree its dead and you just dont give a fOck.

  44. Not there yet Says:

Wow I’ve never seen so many excuses made for such an average player. The excuse all this time was he isn’t being given help, he gets help and now it’s Father Time catching up to him because freakin Carl Nassib has more sacks lol

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Geraldine, he’s simply doing the exact same thing he’s always done only now the only way he can get any kind of pressure is on stunts.

I don’t get Sapp who’s calling out Vita Vea in his rookie season with no training camp but has never questioned the effort and skill of Geraldine and won’t break down any of his missed assignments at all. This dude Geraldine is just trash, I hope your reading this Geraldine, if you don’t like it step up for once and go to war for your teammates. You can’t help quarterbacks up anymore because the only time you see them is before and after the game

  45. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

Gerald McCoy is a big fat softie

  46. tmaxcon Says:

I said months ago before being unjustly banned by the PC Police that as soon as JPP stepped up his game. Captain Blowouts true colors would shine brightly.. this coward of a player with no heart is an embarrassment simple as that. maybe not lovie embarrassing but damn close.

how is that big fat crow sandwich Hawaiian… What’s the excuse for your girl this year… or will you finally admit to being just a sheep this fraud fooled.

hey pickgrin…. told that bs playoff run you were dreaming of was a waste of damn time with this dysfunctional franchise completely void of leadership. it’s a circus not a nfl team.

  47. Mike Says:

    Blowout dance parties
    LMAO

  48. TheBucsAnthem Says:

To say GMC is trash is a bit unfair…..because he is a good player, but he’s just not that great impactful player like a JPP………NOONE is looking at GMC to change a game, wreck a game, or save a game.

Too bad Jason Licht couldn’t have got a 3rd round pick for him

  49. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    LOL^

Captain Blowout loves having danceoffs on the sidelines………

  50. Rover Says:

Soft as dollar store cotton. The Nicest Pro Bowl defensive lineman in NFL HISTORY!!! Trade this powder puff girl.

  51. Jean Lafitte Says:

He probably wants out of Tampa. That’s what players do when they want to move on. Just play half@ss and move on to play lights out somewhere else. If people can’t see this trend then they are wearing blinders.

  52. Bucs14 Says:

Too much flipping ice cream is his problem

  53. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The problem is that the Buccaneers waited too long to get quality players to be around him. I wanted to trade him this past off season, not because I don’t like him, but because he still had trade value and was soon aging out.

He may not be trying as hard…I don’t know. Maybe he wants out while he has time to do something.

  54. AtlBuc Says:

If he went to another team he would be an all-pro. I don’t know why but players, especially defensive players who leave the Bucs do pretty good elsewhere. Swearinger was cut by the Bucs but starts for a team better than us. The same with Mason Foster Aquib, Bennett, Donald Penn, Doug Martin (SIKE!!!!)
