Saquon Barkley Credits Chris Godwin

November 19th, 2018

After the biggest rushing day of his impressive young career yesterday, Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley got dressed, finished up with the New York media and then bonded with family and friends outside the New York locker room.

And then he talked to Joe.

What an impressive and polished 21-year-old.

Anyway, Barkley rolled into how one of his former mentors and role models plays for Tampa Bay.

“Chris Godwin is one of my personal favorite teammates of all-time. Just the way he carries himself, he’s just a genuine, genuine guy. And the way he works, coming in to Penn State, being a younger guy than him, I watched how he carried himself and how he studied his craft. One of the first people in and one of the last to leave every day, and I imagine he’s doing the same exact thing in Tampa,” Barkley said.

“That’s what I’ve learned from him and that helped me take on Penn State and then all the way through to the NFL. He’s helped me tremendously as a role model. When you have a good day on the field, you might think even more about the people who got you here, and Chris Godwin is one of those guys.”

Godwin sure is a bright spot in this dark and gloomy Bucs season. And Joe thought it was a cool nugget to hear Barkley talk about him.

The 2017 Bucs third-round pick now has 40 catches for 533 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games, but more important is he’s hauled in more than 70 percent of the balls thrown his way and he continues to show he’s strong at yards after the catch (YAC).

Hopefully, more Bucs fan follow Godwin’s lead. It sure seems to have worked for Barkley.

    Nice pic Jason

  2. James Walker Says:

Godwin is a legit #2 receiver.

Yes, one of the few strong and solid building blocks on an otherwise crumbling and condemned building. Go Bucs.

He should have thrown the ball to Godwin instead of DickJax. Another game winning catch by Godwin but noooooooo throw it the diva. I digress.

This kid Barkley is super talented. Zeke might be a bit stronger but Barkley is a much better receiver. Neither can compare to gurley who is just the complete package. But all three are impressive for sure.

Ultimately bums like tkras and the fitzmob ruined what would have been a great young nucleus of players gelling together. They they away the future for a bunch of old wash-ups.

If it were me I’d release Dotson, djax, fitz, McIceCream, Jacquizz, Grimes, and anyone else that’s been in Tampa before Licht got here or is 29+.

Build the trenches specifically the oline.

Godwin is the reason we don’t need to pay Djax $10m next year….

Godwin is the reason we can cut Jackson loose next year.
I hope we sign Hump – that kid has been making plays and deserves a few more touches.
And then there is Watson – who looks like a keeper
If I had to guess I would think we let Brate walk and bring Auclair along

    We’ll sign Hump cause he’s a legit #3 and a serviceable returner.
