Sapp Has Message For “California Receivers”

November 1st, 2018

Choice words for Bucs WR.

It sounds like Bucs speedy wide receiver DeSean Jackson won’t be receiving a Christmas card from Warren Sapp next month.

Sapp, in his recent “Route99” podcast, apparently heard about Jackson’s request to be traded all the way in South America where Sapp was vacationing this past weekend.

Enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and his name and number hanging from the heights of the Den of Depression, Sapp seems rankled that a star player wants to walk away from Sapp’s beloved Bucs.

“Hey, DeSean, y’all California receivers don’t like Florida that much?” Sapp asked.

“I don’t understand it. … We’ve got everything California has. We play good football in the great state of Florida.”

Sunday morning, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported Jackson asked for a trade. In public comments since, neither Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht nor Bucs coach Dirk Koetter shot it down.

Licht dodged the question on the Buccaneers Radio Network, saying Sunday that he and Jackson have a good relationship, which really has nothing to do with Rapoport’s report. Koetter brushed off a question about it in his postgame remarks Sunday, grumbling that he didn’t know anything about Rapoport’s claim.

To further solidify Jackson asked for a trade, Jackson’s mom, who is very active on Twitter, wouldn’t even reference it but Twittered late Sunday morning that her son likes the Tampa Bay area.

Joe fully understands the underlying sarcasm in Sapp’s tone when he referred to “California receivers.” Sapp wasn’t just sending a message to dudes who went to Berkeley.

Of course, we all know how enraged Sapp was during his playing days Keyshawn Johnson, the California native, was traded to Tampa Bay but refused to attend voluntary workouts with the Bucs in Tampa, choosing instead to stay on the west coast.

To this very day that still irks Sapp.

Also, Sapp, who is a friend of America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, harshly scolded his fishing buddy for his play against the Bengals and said journeyman backup Ryan Fitzpatrick “rightfully” should start after Jameis’ embarrassing outing.

“Jameis throwing four picks, looking like a chicken with his head cut off,” Sapp said. “Looking like he don’t know how to be an NFL quarterback. … Jameis, you can’t play like that son and expect to be paid up and expect someone to have confidence and trust in you, son.”

The Bucs chatter begins at the 17:00 mark. Here’s the link:

Desean Jackson is a little Beatch!!! He should just keep his mouth shut and do his freeking job which mean stretching out to get a ball rather than bitch about it. He is part of the problem right now and not the solution.

  2. CRABMAN Says:

    never respected sapp

respect him even less every time he opens his mouth

those comments to JW should be kept man to man if they even are friends

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

    1) Do you think Jackson cares what Sapp thinks? 2) How does a bankrupt person like Sapp have money to vacation in South America?

  4. Wausa Says:

I would have liked the Bucs to have attempted a three team trade with the Texans and Giants.

    Bucs get Landon Collins
    Texans get Desean Jackson
Giants get 2nd round pick from Texans.

  5. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

    Strong words from Sapp.

Jackson needs a QB that can throw him the ball.

Jameis needs to be benched, dressed in street clothes

  6. ATrain Says:

    Hey Believer

Better Yet how about the QB throw the ball to him instead of over him or short

Oh that’s right the first two games the QB did and the Bucs won

That’s what is wrong with this town celebration of player who doesn’t preform but we like them

DJax earns his money and DOES his job when you throw him a ball that isn’t 20 yards past or 10 yards short

  7. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Dewey

There are guys here who know a LOT more than me about this and they can amplify if they wish.

But if I’m not mistaken…and I might be…bankruptcy is what allows Sapp to vacation in South America. Bankruptcy is a legal term not a “real” thing where someone loses everything. There are all kinds of ways to protect your money although it does limit you and forces you to jump through hoops.

As far as Sapp’s comments I’m more like Crabman anyway. Sapp was a GREAT DT…perhaps the GOAT…I’ve never questioned his athletic contribution to the Bucs and I appreciate that. But mentally he’s no Derrick Brooks or Ronde. He’s not the brightest bulb in the chandelier and his judgement is clearly suspect.

Having said that I do not disagree with his observations today although I first thought he overreacted to DJAX.

But then Joe reminded of MEshawn Johnson and explained why that might be a super touchy situation for Sapp. Thanks for that reminder Joe makes me look at it in a different light.

  8. ben Says:

Sapp was the best player ever for the bucs.. Not sure about his opinion but he has always been a true bucs fan

  9. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

    DJax wanted to leave Jameis.

Not Florida, and not the Bucs (unless we were going to keep starting Jameis).

DJax + Fitz = Winning Combination

  10. NPRSageBoy Says:

Let’s see if DJax changes his tune when Fitz starts lobbing the bombs his way in Carolina.

  11. Erik w/ Clean Athletics Says:

    Bucbeliever,

    You are way off here.

We need the type of accountability that a player and a man like DJax provided in this situation.

Thank you, Djax, for always keeping it real… In the public eye and apparently behind closed doors as well…

  12. DB55 Says:

Wow! Sounds like I should double up on my meds today. Just brutal, first Farve and now Sapp. Who’s next Vince Lombardi?

  13. Dubcity06 Says:

Nothing to do with Florida. Everything to do with the QB

  14. Trench War Says:

This team is on life support, a decimated defense, weak offensive line that can’t run block to save their lives, and 3 back-up QB’s. At least one has a magic beard!

  15. 813bucboi Says:

well on Monday, the guys on PFT kinda shot down those rumors saying that the eagles linked that rumor out because they wanted djax…..when that failed, they turned their attention to golden tate…..

imo, I think djax likes the area and likes Winston the person but prefers fitz as his qb….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Kobe Faker Says:

“LOL! The Buc Sheep trying to rationalize

DJAX wants money and only money..next year

He has nothing guaranteed next year”

*wouldnt doubt Jason Gump told Djax he will resign him next year if he stays in the down low

    Kobe Faker

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    DB55

“Sounds like I should double up on my meds today. Just brutal, first Farve and now Sapp. Who’s next Vince Lombardi?”

That was funny. If I can fun ya back a little…if Lombardi came back from the dead to tell us would you finally give up? LOL

BTW I take no joy in any pain you are feeling. Like you I am a Bucs fan first and so I would rather you have been correct and IF you are and JW yet works out here and leads us to the playoffs I would be thrilled. I’ve just given up.

I’m not a poster who comes here for validation of my “football cred”. There are plenty of posters here who know far more than me about football and I’m fine with that. For all I know you may know more….but JW? Not sure about that one.

  18. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    @DB55

If you see that Vince Lombardi now chimes in, DB55, then YES!!.. you should definitely change your meds!!!!!!

    Haha,, just playin man 😉

  19. Joe Says:

well on Monday, the guys on PFT kinda shot down those rumors saying that the eagles linked that rumor out because they wanted djax…..when that failed, they turned their attention to golden tate…..

Bucs had every reason to deny the report for obvious reasons.

    They did not.

DJax’s mom had all sorts of reasons to deny the report — dude’s mother!

    She did not.

DJax has all sorts of reasons to deny the report. He bolted out of the locker room Sunday without talking and has yet to deny the report even though he’s all over social media every day.

Pretty obvious to Joe it’s true.

  20. Trench War Says:

Pretty obvious to Joe it’s true.

who cares ..it’s obvious DJax is happy now. How do you build a H.O.F. resume if your QB struggles getting you the ball.

  21. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Having an inaccurate QB is NOT a license to give up on routes. Make an attempt at the damn ball or try to draw PI at the very least. A grass stain on your jersey wont kill you.

  22. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

“A grass stain on your jersey wont kill you.”
Love it, man. Very well said, Bradentuckey.

  23. rob Says:

Jackson has been totally wasted here, except when Fitz is QB. I can’t blame him one bit for wanting to move on if JW stays. He has a few years left and wants to make impact plays. Sapp was a HOF player, but a disgrace as a person. Really don’t care about any of his opinions.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

    @joe

philly didn’t deny they leaked the rumor…..djax’s agent didn’t deny philly leaked the rumor….its obvious to me they did…..they were in need on a wr, djax was their #1 option and when that failed they went to their #2 option…..

bucs are more worried about whats going on with Winston…imo, they could care less about how djax is feeling…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  25. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs has spent 7 first round picks on Quarterbacks
And a 1st round supplemental pick on Steve Young

    With their QB history

I seriously doubt they will get a QB here
Better than Jameis or equal to him

  26. Ray Rice Says:

Vacationing in South America. LMFAO… Ahhhhh! Yes! The Mecca of prostitution. But I’m sure he went for the beaches and the cheap all inclusive packages. Being in South America you got more shiznit to worry about than Desean, Warren.

  27. ATrain Says:

    I love this fan base

Crap on the guy who makes plays when the ball is thrown to him

Make excuses for the man who can’t throw pat 20 yards
And blame DJax for not jumping 10 feet in the air to catch it

DJax just broke Rice’s record. Rice is one of the best recievers in the NFL ever

    But DJax is the problem

I saw no problem with him catching the ball when Fitz threw it

  28. ATrain Says:

    Lakeland

They picked up a QB from the bench who is better by analyzing them
All though by only a half a game

  29. unbelievable Says:

I guess Atrain missed the record breaking pass that Winston through to DeSean for a long TD on Sunday.

SMDH. There is plenty, and I mean plenty of blame to go on Jameis for his play last week. But I’m so sick of seeing idiots write “can’t hit a receiver in stride” or “can’t throw a deep pass” when we watch him do those things every single week!

The problem is consistency. There hasn’t been any. He throws a dime in stride
on one play and then tosses it straight to the opponent the next. What gives? Is it Jameis? Is it the coaches? Is it both?

Jameis is quite the paradox. Best QB this team has ever had, yet still making rookie college mistakes on a frequent basis.

  30. Ed Says:

Comment about Jackson being underutilized is very relevant. He is one of the best ever at hauling in long bombs and a great punt returner. I agree with those who say he’s selfish. That’s ok because great receivers in this era are selfish other than Julio Jones who never bitches about anything. They want the ball because they know they can score touchdowns which helps a team win.

No coincidence in both wins over the Saints and Eagles, his downfield plays for TDS shocked their defenses and softened them up the rest of the game. He’s a deadly weapon if you get the ball to him.

The Raiders in the Kenny Stabler era had a guy named Cliff Branch who Jackson plays like, his long TDS helped Oakland win a couple of SuperBowls.

Jackson has that rare ability to catch up with a ball in flight 40-50 yards downfield but you gotta put some air under it so he can run and get it.
