Ronald Jones Returns

November 14th, 2018

Joe’s not sure this means much, but it might to general manager Jason Licht.

Ronald Jones returned to practice today in a limited capacity. No wonder he was all smiles in the locker room beforehand.

Jones has missed the past two games with a hamstring injury suffered against the Bengals.

Regardless, Joe doesn’t expect to see much of Jones against the Giants at the Meadowlands. Dirk Koetter seems to only be playing his most trusted offensive players.

On the season, Jones has 19 carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.

    Fire Jason Licht Plz!

  2. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

    Woopeedooooooooo.

  3. Bucsfanman Says:

    Barber gets to share his 13 carries!
    Seriously though, welcome back.

  4. LBSbuc Says:

    Dirk Kotter makes the same mistakes he made everywhere he goes. Pass happy who needs a running game. The only reason the falcons got over their play off drought was they developed a running game after koetter left.

  5. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

    If I were Dirk or Jason Licht, I would stage these final 7 games as an audition for next season. Granted, neither of them may be here next season, but to me, this seems like the only way to try to keep the players from quitting (if they haven’t already). These games are especially important for Jameis Winston, Donovan Smith, Vita Vea, Ronald Jones, Gerald McCoy and basically everyone else on a one year/expiring contract

    Time to see what will survive the house cleaning…

  6. 813bucboi Says:

    so rojo dresses and spence wont….great……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

    Breakout game

  8. unbelievable Says:

    Can’t wait to watch him fall down as soon as the defender looks at him.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Pardon my ignorance but who is Ronald Jones?

    Is that the Rojo I keep hearing about?

  10. DislocatedBucsFan Says:

    Spence played last week. Idk if you missed it he was O’layed by the RT and I never saw him again.

  11. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

    Well fire the cannons 😏

  12. BucEmUp Says:

    Ronald Jones would be a monster with the Saints, chargers, steelers, patriots….you know GOOD TEAMS!!!!!

    This is why I want Jason Licht to stay. Since Licht has been here he has had two crap coaching staffs teaching his young draft picks the NFL. You have to ask yourself are these guys busts, or are they being poorly handled by bad coaching staffs.

    I want to see Bruce Arians come down here ( who has worked with licht and Buckner) and THEN…THEN I will be able to believe what my eyes are seeing. Until then I reserve Judgement on Jason Lichts drafts.

  13. Matts17 Says:

    Who?

  14. WalkdaPlank Says:

    Don’t want to judge him because it’s only his rookie year…

    But he’s been awful and Barber has been better than him.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

    Dirk is coaching for his job guys… if him and Fitz can just win 7 in a row to close out the season then all will be good! I mean 10-6 in the NFC South probably leaves you in last place and out of the playoffs, but still, what a run Dirk is sure to have with Fitz leading the way. As for Ronald, he’ll need to take a bench on the seat because Dirk needs all his vets leading the way.

    7 in a row to go!

  16. Zwak Says:

    Super Bowl here we come!

  17. Dom is gone...Licht ? Says:

    Rookie year means nothing for RB position… bad pick! Other rookies picked after him are having much better years than him.

  18. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    He’s been suffering from a hamstring sine April.

    Can’t actively call Ronald Jones a bust based on how great he was in college, but I can’t say that I don’t wish he were Josh Jackson or Kerryon Johnson.

  19. DBS Says:

    And they pormoted Ogunbowale and resigned Minter again. So Jones is back and now we are to expect a sudden change? Probably not.

  20. adam from ny Says:

    this fuggin guy…he’s part of the problem at this point…not the solution

  21. adam from ny Says:

    smitty seen on the beach today sippin’ margaritas and laughing out loud about his boy dirk

  22. adam from ny Says:

    rojo is a no-sho

  23. JabooBuc Says:

    So there are a couple of position questions that I’m hoping you can provide some insight on Joe. First, you can’t tell me there’s not a better RG walking the streets of Tampa then Caleb Beenawhilwsinceiblocked. This dude is absolutely lost and is going to get someone seriously hurt. So, have they worked out anyone at all off the streets?

    Second, there has to be some crazy reason they are keeping Spence on this team. He’s literally good for nothing other than maybe giving a breather to a starter. I can do that with the same effectiveness as this dude. So…any insight on this. Again, there has to be a dude walking the streets Better than this dude.

    This, BTW, is what makes me think Jason might be the problem. Is he lazy or what?

  24. Ray Rice Says:

    Ronald Jones < Dexter Jackson. The 2nd Round draft pick pride of the football factory known as Appalachian State.

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

    Welcome back Mr. Jones. Kinda like you were never here! How in the hell can an RB be this good in college and do..absolutely zero at this level? I bet if he were with another team, He’s be gallopin and breaking tackles all over the field. Ohh Well. BUCLIFE BABY!!

  26. Fire Light Says:

    There are people still backing Licht!? Babahahahahhahaha. He’s toast. Dirk’s toast. There will be a new local holiday when those two are eventually fired. I’ve got a bottle on ice for the celebration! At this point that’s all Bucs fans have to look forward to.

  27. bojim Says:

    Please gain more than two yards a carry. This year like every year, we need to score as much as possible.

  28. bucanation Says:

    Barber isn’t good jones is miss used and the bucs and the coaches are just baddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd/more coachibg than talent Dirt is an embarrassing to tampa bay area sports

  29. bucanation Says:

    Both GM and a new coach is needed and need to whipe the last three years away as soon as possible and what there spilling is just bad , 1 Brate was a good tight end for this team wasn’t a need Howard is good but everyone cant get the ball ,we could of had defensive help or a running back 2. vita vey wasn’t the biggest need corner was our gm cant get out of his own way none of there moves make any sense . result its just badddddddddddddddddddd

  30. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @bucanation

    On the long, long list of bad decisions this Organization has made, selecting O.J. Howard at #19 overall in the 2017 draft doesn’t even land on that list.

    It was the 100 percent correct move to make because he’s a gifted player with generational talent and skills. He was criminally under-utilized in his rookie year and still is.

    We could have had Kareem Hunt or Alvin Kamara in the 2nd round of that draft, shoot we could have had them in the 3rd. For god’s sake we could have had James Connor in the 4th! We could have had Yanick NGakuoe instead of Roberto Aguayo in 2016! We could have signed Calais Campbell!

    I’m with you all day on axing Licht and Koetter, but your reasoning as to why needs some rethinking.

  31. basementbucs Says:

    Gonna have a break out game 4 carries for 12 yards get ready fellers

  32. adam from ny Says:

    as pictured, he does carry pads really really well…and that’s quite important in buc land

    #NotPadThai #PadCarrier

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    You know, there hasn’t been a single article all year without hate in the comments. Even during the first two weeks.

  34. joestang Says:

    OH NO just when i thought it couldnt get any worse, now jones is back, whats next?

  35. WillieG Says:

    If we would’ve had him last week, we would’ve had 507 yards of offense instead of 501!

  36. adam from ny Says:

    imagine he goes 22 carries for 161 yards and 2 tds…

    just imagine

  37. Season Is Over Says:

    This team hasn’t had a winning record at Halloween since 2011 with Raheem Morris. That means that each season is over before you blink and this guy above me is complaining about hate towards the team. Haha. People are tired of putting any effort into the Bucs. The Bucs are dumping on the fans and what they get back is what they deserve. There is a huge faction of people that can’t even stand Winston and most likely won’t even watch anymore if he is QB. This is not a vocal group of fans. These are the fans that make the difference. Just think of all the people that you talk to about the Bucs, How many of those people actually want to see Winston play? There is no excitement. He will have to work a miracle to win these people over. If Koetter, who is closer to him than anyone, doesn’t want him playing, why would the fans?

  38. Kansas95Buc Says:

    @Season Is Over
    while majority of what you said is factual, I think if we give Winston a competent HC who plays to his strengths. Fans forget this guy plays on a team with 0 defense

  39. adam from ny Says:

    winston can be more than just a game manager…he has to grow into a role of somewhere between a game manager and a gun slinger…there is a happy medium somewhere in there…

    if he can chill out and not be so emotional…that way he can up his on field iq…

    in the meantime let fitzie smack the f out of him with that harvard man mentality…

    the only “W” getting eaten this year is “Winston”…

    sometimes you eat the bear…sometimes the bear eats a “W”

  40. Trench War Says:

    this team can’t block for sh|t

  41. adam from ny Says:

    rojo is kinda like ziggy marley of the nfl

  42. LakeLand Says:

    BucEmUp

    So you’re saying that the draft picks from 2014 wasn’t playing decent football for Lovie Smith and his staff.

    Everyone in the NFL knows that these draft picks were developing under Smith

    Mike Evans
    Charles Sims
    Kevin Pamphile
    Jameis Winston
    Donovan Smith
    Ali Marpet
    Kwon Alexander

    Even ASJ had decent moments

    They even got production from the UDFA

    Jude Adjei-Barimah
    Dontea Dye
    Adam Humphries
    Cam Brate

    The problem developing these young players didn’t start until 2016

    The year AFTER they fired Lovie Smith

    The young guys were coming along, playing exceptional well
    Until they decided to go into a different direction

  43. LakeLand Says:

    **The draft picks and UDFA from 2014-2015**

  44. orlbucfan Says:

    Big whoop on Jones. Bigger question is how can a football team amass over 500+ yards in offense and lose a frigging game, 16-3???????????????????????????????

  45. Fire Light Says:

    @season is over Koetter and winston do not like each other at all. Your argument is null and void. I wanna see America’s QB Famous Jameis play, and play now! Not this FitzTragic crap. Fitz plain sucks and Koetter does too. They both won’t be here next year. A new coach, GM, and Jameis back starting and leading the Bucs to glory!

  46. Not Americas QB Says:

    I hope the start him, give him the ball 25 times and see what happens.

  47. Rod Munch Says:

    I wrote this before but Ronald seems more like a Gary Anderson type of back, meaning he’s a bit upright and sort of glides. Backs like that can be productive, and have been productive, but they are scheme dependant and Dirk’s scheme isn’t exactly helping him out. Now while I don’t like Dirk and think he’s an idiot, I do like his scheme and think the running game is way overrated, you run the ball to keep drives alive – and the Bucs have absolutely no issue keeping drive alive – so I don’t care if they throw it 60 times a game or not. The only time that is an issue is if you’re dealing with a ton of 3 and outs and your defense is exhausted, but we never have to worry about our defense being exhausted because for 95% of the season they’re just giving up a TD in 5 plays so they’re off the field pretty quick and fresh for the next drive, when they give up a TD in 5 plays.

    For Ronald I will say it’s not promising so far, and I hated the pick since as I pointed at during the draft, the Bucs have Chris Conte starting at safety, why are they spending a pick on a RB when they have Chris Conte starting at safety? I hated this pick, and would have not liked any of the RB picks, but watching the tape after the pick, he didn’t seem like a guy that fits this particular offense – sort of how Vita doesn’t seem like a guy who fits this type of defense. But maybe Licht is drafting a year out on orders of the Glazers and they already know who they’re going after (hopefully a Tomlin trade).

  48. tmaxcon Says:

    Bonzi

    Hate is the only honest emotion when dealing with bucs. There is truly no hope now or for the future. Owners refuse to field a comoetitive product. They have proven this beyond a reasonable doubt for nearly two decades. Hate is the only true emotion love, faith and optimism are for mentally weak people who need crutches to avoid reality

  49. Destinjohnny Says:

    So now he has to play so Jason can save his ass.
    Wow not good

  50. Issaic haggins Says:

    Obviously Jones should get every carry and I’m a p barber fan but Jones is just more dynamic and Koetters staff failed to prepare him or the scheme ………. probably the least played second round pic and at must must need !!!!

    I know , I know ; are we dreaming ? WELL unfortunately NOT !!!

  51. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

    Jones had major trouble learning the playbook , that is why he did not play. Bucs passed on Royce Freeman and Kerryon Johnson to select Jones-OOPS. Bucs also passed on Jaire Alexander to select Jones-HUGE OOPS. Bucs are a disaster. Total rebuild of character and culture of this team is necessary , as well as personnel changes. Father Tony Dungy as President of Football Operations ( if he would have us).

  52. gg720 Says:

    Bucs coaches don’t know how to use any of their players properly and in right schemes. Players leave and are damn good players elsewhere but can’t seem to fit and be good here. Look at the freaking coaching and you will find the main reason this team sucks with good personnel such as our offense.

  53. lewis Says:

    Swifty you are probably right on I blogged that out of anger lol and i am just tired of being angry ,midway threw the season and the bucs are out of it again Glazers better beware when fans stop being angry and just give up

  54. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Ronald Jones Returns.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Um….. yay?
  55. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    On a more optimistic note….
    It really would be amazing if he broke out, a bit. Sure would love to see it.
  56. bradinator Says:
    It would hardly matter if it was Walter Payton. This line has zero fire, heart, or will. I feel sorry for Peyton Barber. that dude has ALL of those qualities, and it’s the only reason he gets any yards. Jones is a rook and came in here expecting an NFL O-line that would open the occasional hole he could run through, and he could utilize his speed in the second level. Alas, he came here. Likely an unpleasant surprise for a guy used to tearing it up. Pretty soon he’ll have “Stockholm Syndrome” and begin to empathize with his captors. Sad.
  57. Tampa Bay Demon Says:
    ^^ @bradinator
    Could not agree with you more, man, about Peyton Barber’s fire, heart & will. I have come to really enjoy watching this kid play, and hope for him to have long term success here in TB. Of course, as you said, that will largely depend on the OL. — Peyton has the heart of a champion.
