Panthers Doing Something Right

November 4th, 2018

Gets value from players.

Want to know why the Stinking Panthers are better than the Bucs? Just watch the game (and look at the roster).

All over the field, the Panthers get production from their draft picks. The Bucs? Only get production from a handful of draft picks.

Curtis Samuel torched the Bucs today. So too did Christian McCaffrey and two drafted Carolina cornerbacks. The Bucs? Well…

Let’s look at the Bucs’ 2018 rookie draft class. Where are the Bucs getting in production from the haul Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht raked in from trading down?

Vita Vea is little more than a tackling dummy. Ronald Jones, before he got hurt, was largely MIA. Carlton Davis isn’t so bad when he’s not mouthing off at receivers and making googly-eyes in order to get flagged. M.J. Stewart is a big nothing. Alex Cappa isn’t good enough to dress for a game despite the guy playing ahead of him having whiplash from dudes racing past him on pass plays.

The only rookie doing anything is Jordan Whitehead who looks to be a keeper.

So you want to know why the Stinking Panthers are better? Guys they draft aren’t just sucking air on the field. They are making plays.

Bucs rookies make plays alright. Not the kind you hope for though.

Can we fire them now ??!!

  4. EA Says:

It is talent but ultimately im convinced that coaching isn’t motivating anybody on our team. How many 50/50 balls did they catch today and how many did our receivers.

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

No team will win in the NFL is it doesn’t have a defense

THE BUCS ARE DEAD LAST IN DEFENSE

  12. Pryda Says:

For the coach !!! They fired hue get him out of here enough is enough !!

    ATTENTION ALL BUC COACHING STAFF:
Take your positions on the Ship’s Plank.
    What say ye all……
FIRE KOETTER..FIRE DUFF…FIRE ALL ASSISTANT COACHES.
    FIRE the Strength Condtioning Coaches.
Front and Center Mr Licht- FIRE LICHT
Now FIRE the canons and make it so.
Hire Father Tony Dungy as Head of Buc Football Operations.
    Lets start building a WINNER.

  17. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Well since JAMEIS IS A BUST and he won’t be here

………..he’s set this franchise back 6 to 8 years

………the BUCS have now become the BROWNS SOUTH

    THE TAMPA BAY BROWNS

  18. Waterboy Says:

Whitehead missed several key tackles today too.

  19. lambchop Says:

Don’t forget Donte Jackson. Man among boys handling Mike Evans all game long.

  20. Bculaw Says:

Here’s a question: outside of a couple of pass catchers, what young player has the team developed under this coaching staff? I’m not ready to throw in the towel on all these young players. They simply can’t all suck. The coaching staff on the other hand….

Complete failure to develop any toughness or identity for nearly a decade now. It doesn’t matter who we draft if the schemes and staff aren’t up to the task of developing players.

  21. Season Is Over Says:

Did I miss Dirk “We were done before Halloween” Koetter and the thousand yard stare in the press conference already?

  23. Dre Says:

I feel for koetter … but this is your team even if it’s the defense and you put together the best offense in bucs history … you hired mike smith litch drafts weak collegiate athletes … you both are the culprit … the weakest link is the defense …. and signed weak free agent defensive players not named Jason Pierre-Paul… ultimately koetter and litch are gone

  24. Season Is Over Says:

Is Peyton Barber a No. 1 RB yet? Maybe I am just not seeing it.

I thought the pick would be LSU CB Donte Jackson or Isaiah Oliver. MJ Stewart is another slow CB, and so is Carlton Davis. I thought they were going with the speedy Jackson. I also thought they were going with the speedy Derwin James at SS. But they went with another slow guy at SS. It looks like the Bucs want the slow guys who can hit, instead of getting faster in the secondary.

    Derwin James | 4.47 40 yard dash
    Donte Jackson | 4.32 40 yard dash

So the Falcons take Oliver and Carolina take Jackson

  26. Rick Says:

You pretty much calling it on Licht too aren’t you joe?

  27. Mike Johnson Says:

Season is Over Says..Nobody saw this coming? I di. And I expressed it here on JoeBuc the minute Koetter and Smitty were hired. I knew. WHY? Would you hire coaches from another team who couldnot/did not get the job done..with that team? Hell, Simple Simon could figure out that one.

  28. Dom is gone ... Licht? Says:

Roster is horrible … keep Evans and OJ blow the rest of it up. Licht has had plenty of time to up grade this roster… team as as bad now as the day he got the job! Defense is worse!

  29. TonyC Says:

Listen this team suffered for 15 years before Dungy/McKay came along and built a winner. We are now at the 15 year point again and it looks like it’s going to take another regime to do the same. I just lack confidence in the Glazer boys to do what their pops did before them. They absoutely have to “clean house” but I don’t trust them to hire the “right’ GM or coach. They have a terrible track record post Gruden.

  30. Anonymous Says:

Well said The problem lies at the very top, owners GM and the coaches that’s why we have no draft picks they all suck

  31. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

Uggghhh, another week, another month, another year of the same ‘ol sh*t. Wish that the Glazer kids would sell the team already….and not to another businessman, but a fan of our beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Go ‘Bucs.

  32. lambchop Says:

I don’t mind Carlton Davis mouthing off. We need that swag on a limp defense. I’ll take a few penalties IF it means it gives the team a spark. That didn’t happen as the defensive coaching staff is the laughing stock of the NFL.

  33. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    YUP

KOETTER AND LICHT WILL BE FIRED

…………it’s coming now that the season in unofficially over

  34. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

So we are blaming one of the best young QBs in NFL history (fact) for why the Bucshave been a laughing stock for 15 years?
    Did you watch this game?
This staff is awful, especially on defense.
Fits was throwing wide and high and into coverage, and got all of his yards and TDs with defense playing soft. You know the same thing you say about Jameis…
Sorry but this staff and this organization is totally screwing up this QBs head and the organization and staff are 100x more responsible than a 24 year old QB. Wake up.

  35. Marlow Says:

The is not any talent outside of 2-3 players in defense. “They” tried to build the defense via the free agent market and failed miserably. Thats the organizations fault, not one individual. Unless you blame the GM, which I am inclined to do.

  36. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Licht has certainly been a sub par GM. He’s had a bunch of years to turn this around. The only pick anyone remembers throughout the rest of the country is trading up for Aguayo in the 2nd. Almost all his free agent signings have been busts and God only knows Jay Miss is a bust.
Mr. Licht, thanks for the memories. You are soooooo done here. And I can’t imagine you’ll ever get another GM job in the NFL. The good news is the Bucs win so infrequently, you don’t have to jump in your pool very often in your suit, so that saves on your dry cleaning bill – if you can even effectively dry clean a suit after jumping into a chlorinated pool, that is.

These slow guys don’t have the speed to stay with NFL WRs. They will have to rely on technique and coverage skills.

    The question is:

Can the Bucs secondary coaches develop these guys for the NFL?

  39. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Carlton Davis DOES NOT have the speed or agility to play outside corner

  40. Frank813 Says:

Jason and the coaching staff have to shoulder a LOT of blame-
Ronald Jones instead of Kerryon Johnson….
    The ENTIRE 2016 draft….
Players that are coming off major injuries…
    Humbolt State….
We just don’t have play makers, we have good combine people..
Can we hire Dungy as president of football?
    I miss Rich McKay

  41. GrafikDetail Says:

its called development joe!! and this staff could not even develop a photograph with an instant camera LOL

  42. DBS Says:

Just remember. When the firing starts the Glazers are just going to F it up again. So don’t get excited when it does.

  43. Rossta61 Says:

Well said JB. The problem lies at the very top, owners GM and the coaches that’s why we have no draft picks they all suck I have been a Buc fan since the beginning. it’s getting really hard to continue to be a fan. time after time I watch other teams get better and we still suck, after 10 years since the Super Bowl give me a break I’m done

  44. orlbucfan Says:

I am so DISGUSTED I can’t stand it. What is it with this team???????? Koetter has amassed the most talented offense in Bucs history! Screw the QB. A kid could win with these players and that includes the OLine!! Why are we not seeing a competent offensive game plan????????????????????????? YAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

  45. Mike Johnson Says:

LMAO Here. Somebody posted..Embrace the Buc Suck. We been doin that since we won our 1st superbowl!! You gotta laugh guys to keep from gettin angry and cryin. I’m snockered. Thats the only way I can stomach watching us. We are the SOB’S (same old Bucs!) Its a..BUCLIFE BABY!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. Elita Vita Says:

We are wasting the most talented Bucs offense of all-time.
Not sure how to fix the entire team.
Do we keep Winston and reboot the rest of the staff at years end?
Never like to see people lose their jobs but what is the alternative?

  47. orlbucfan Says:

Do not even get me started about the clueless ownership!

  48. LakeLand Says:

The problem lies with the GM

  49. firethecannons Says:

So Joe there is a reason the Bucs drafted these guys–his name is Jason Licht and he needs to be run the fok outta town

    ——————-
Give it a break. No it doesn’t!!!!!~

  51. SteveK Says:

    Orlbucfan,

Licht pocked Stewart over CB fonts Jackson.

Licht failed to draft a competent RB, and resigned Martin.

Licht would rather pay GMC and Grimes $26 million combined vs paying Calais Campbell.

  52. LakeLand Says:

    Give it a break?

    You have to be joking

  53. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Yeah I have to say I’ve given up defending Licht. I’m a wait and see guy and I’ve waited and have seen enough.
    Poor talent evaluator.
Bucs fans deserves a better front office and coaching staff. I am not holding my breath though. Glazers have proven stubborn to make this decision themselves and they always make the wrong ones.

  54. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

The problem is the Glazers. They should do whatever it takes to bring Rich McKay back as President and give him sole authority to hire every key position in the organization from GM to trainers. Unless and until they remove themselves from operations we will continue to lose. Period.

  55. LakeLand Says:

Rich McKay is set for life as Arthur Blank right hand

He won’t come back to this garbage

  56. LakeLand Says:

Arthur Blank signed him to an extension

    Good until 2022

  57. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Hire Coughlin for President of Football Operations

  58. AlteredEgo Says:

    I don’t know what to say….

  59. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Joe! Belting back a few “shots” of truth serum…atta boy! This regime sucks and is getting worse. Somehow snuck up on the Saints and Nick Foles without magic beans vs the Eagles. This team could easily be winless. This draft class will be outta the league in 3 years or less.

  60. Mike Says:

    Klueless and Lightheaded =
Bozo and Cookie minus the cool prizes

    Tampa Bay Clown show

  61. Sbucs Says:

How do you spell embarrassment?.. b…u…c…s

  62. TonyC Says:

Wow I was thinking at least we have a super bowl how do you think Browns fans feel?

  63. Clarence Says:

The saddest thing is, even if you fire Licht and Koetter, no legit talent will want to come here and take the wheel. Every time there is some more attractive prospect that we can’t compete with. So we never get the hot up and coming coaches, or the established big names.

We get the experiments like raheems, or Schianos, or guys who’ve never shown they can quite get it done like mike smith.

There’s no way out until we hire a PROVEN hc – an overall winning record as hc, a guy who has strung together enough consecutive winning seasons to not be a fluke. A GM who can get the basics right with player evaluation would be great too – Licht gets some things right but too often goes all-in trying to be the smartest guy in the room and catch lightning in a bottle.

  64. Christopher Schiefen Says:

Listening to AC/DC is for dunderheads. No nuance, just the same BS for 40 years, which is concerning when that’s the music of your franchise architect. He used the AC/DC ethos to build the team this year: toughness over all else. It’s how you end up with Vita over Derwin, MJ over Donte Jackson, Alex Cappa over literally anybody else, and semi-busts like Jensen, Allen, Curry, and Unrein.

  65. TOM Says:

Enough with this Dungy crap. And calling him father is a joke & disgraceful. Today’s NFL is a different animal. Need young blood. Not a bunch of retreads. If the Glazers aren’t going to sell the team to someone who cares, they should at least hire someone to handle day to day operations, including the hiring of the next GM & HC.

  66. Troy Says:

The Browns feel better than we do. They have a qb.

  67. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

We’re getting out coached and out drafted by all other teams and GMs

  68. Frank Pillow Says:

We are not an attractive destination for a premier head coaching candidate- a roster full of holes at every position except WR and TE….and the Jameis situation. The Browns have a stronger, more talented core and better QB option- we are a total disaster.

  69. Joe Says:

The saddest thing is, even if you fire Licht and Koetter, no legit talent will want to come here and take the wheel.

Joe won’t go that far. The one thing Joe has learned covering the NFL is that for many suits and coaches (not all, but many) is their inflated egos. Dudes, mostly coaches, think they have the answer to every problem.

And of course, zeros on a paycheck help.

Joe will agree with you that if Jameis is washed up with the Bucs, agents of top shelf quarterback prospects will just about do anything they can to make sure their client(s) don’t come to Tampa Bay.

  70. Clarence Says:

We really need a Coughlin type to be the adult in the room here 🙁
