Monken Confirms Bucs Fans’ Fears

November 18th, 2018

Empty wins trump development.

When Bucs Bit-O-Honey-snacking, Ozark-watching coach Dirk Koetter benched America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, he said journeyman backup Ryan Fitzpatrick gives the Bucs the best chance to win.

Joe believed at the time, and still does, that was a panic move by Koetter.

Joe believed at the time, and still does, that Koetter was basically saying, the hell with the franchise or even the future of the franchise, I have to save my arse.

Well, last week Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken basically confirmed that notion when he all but said the only way the coaching staff can keep its jobs is by somehow going on a winning streak.

As such, Jameis has turned to roadkill.

“We keep our jobs by winning,” Monken said.

Well, if there is one coach on this staff that should be kept whether the team wins or loses, it’s Monken. He has shown he’s a gifted offensive coordinator.

Lost in the desperation of guys trying to keep their jobs and ignoring the long-term is Koetter, and indirectly Monken and others, wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Jameis. Koetter was hired specifically for his working relationship with Jameis and to develop the young quarterback.

With Koetter benching Jameis, and all but saying he can’t win with him, that’s a public confession he failed at his top responsibility.

To make matters worse, the guy Koetter has deemed the quarterback who gives the team the best chance to win isn’t winning. Fitz is 0-4 in his last four starts. Jameis is 2-2 in his last four starts.

If the Bucs lose (again) today with Jameis on the bench, then it’s time for Team Glazer to make a decision. It’s either Koetter or Jameis. If Koetter doesn’t want to cooperate, doesn’t want to work with Jameis, well, point him towards the exit door at One Buc Palace.

Who the hell is running this organization anyway?

If the Bucs lose today, it’s time to fish or cut bait.

Agreed. If they get beat up by the giants and Koetter tries to force Fitz on us again it’s time to launch him.

  2. Hodad Says:

Oh the chum is in the water Joe, the sharks are circling they smell blood. This could be Koetter’s last stand!

  3. WutdaBucisthis Says:

…Who the hell is running this organization anyway?
Isn’t it obvious Joe? No one

  4. Buc believer Says:

I see a 0-7 run in our future!

  5. Jim Says:

Joe sees Winston as the future QB, but It doesn’t look like the Glazers see that, else he’d be playing…

  6. Architek Says:

Care to sensationalize any Joe? So you all really believe that Jameis entitled play over the past 4 years deem him worthy for people to put him above their families financial security and certainty? Not to mention the off the field stuff that none of us know what’s happened (including Joe) that caused the coaches to lose trust?

How about HIS OWN TEAM NOT VOTING HIM AS A CAPTAIN???

I don’t care to dog Winston out because this whole franchise wreaks or losing but why is Jameis being made out to be some helpless lamb slain to serve individual agendas instead of him having a hand in his current state of affairs.

I think there should be more time spent talking about all the draft busts Jason Lichts had and the inability for Koetter and the scouting to find key positions in 5 seasons…

  7. Bobby M. Says:

The decision making is part of the problem….You have multiple siblings with say, some may have never preferred Winston in the first place, some may be over him, while others just don’t want to give away $20 million at this point. The Glazers have almost always been hands off during the season, they let professionals do their jobs and make decisions based on results. The only thing that may have been communicated is what they need to see from a wins and losses perspective. Hasn’t been the best model of success for awhile but if that’s how their dad taught them, hard to argue with tradition.

  8. Architek Says:

Tired of these agendas and slants. Isn’t the point of good writing to inform not persuade consumers?

No disrespect homie, but change your screen name then. Why follow our comment then? Yea change names with season is over..

  10. T REX Says:

Joe you are really whiny lately. Winston is trash. 48 games and 4 years…hes regressed not gotten better. He peaked in his freshman year at fsu. Garbage. Time to turn the page. Stop crying.

  11. Dooshlarue Says:

I’m just about done with Koetter, but in NO way are JW’s mental shortcomings Dirk’s fault.
You can’t coach out that kind of stupidity.
The Soiled Messiah is a Mental Midget.

We needed a QB desperately and
Licht rolled the dice by drafting him and lost.

Jameis has been given plenty of time and chances …..and ya know what Joe?
    He sucks.

    Get over it.

  12. Dooshlarue Says:

…..and the title for this article should say Jameis fans, not Buc’s fans.
Those two aren’t mutually exclusive Joe.

  13. BucEmUp Says:

This is bull crap, Jamies needs to be starting

  14. BucEmUp Says:

I sincerely hope the Giants beat the snot out of us today and Koetter loses his job so we can watch real coaches do their job. Buckner and Monken have balls….Koetter has none

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

Koetter can take the OLine coach with him when he is terminated.
A bad game or 2 after suspension and you’re done with your franchise qb?
And don’t give me the off field issues excuse- if that was legitimate you would have traded or cut him during summer.
Koetter doesn’t want to explain himself because he has made it a personal decision.

  16. Pryda Says:

I won’t go to another bucs game till Jameis plays and if they move on from him … I will too for a few years cause we ain’t doing crap!!! He isn’t the problem on the team MF defense GMC LVD these guys are LOSERS!!!

  17. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Joe, I don’t believe anyone (outside of the Winston haters) really believe that the Bucs are a better team with Fitz at QB. He can’t make all the throws, doesn’t move well in the pocket, and turns the ball over at a very high clip. Winston is far from a finished product, but everyone knows how much more crisp the offense is with Jameis under center. Yes, he almost singlehandedly lost the Cincy game, but he has also had a number of games where he looks like a top 5 QB. Koetter has to stay objective about these things and for that reason I think there is something else at play that is preventing him from starting JW. Either the owners have given up on Jameis and told Koetter he can’t play him or JW has simply lost the team and the players don’t want him back. Koetter is not dumb enough to really think this turn over prone journeyman QB that the kid that owns almost every Bucs passing record.

  18. K_Bassuka Says:

    @Architek

WHY DIDN’T THE PLAYERS VOTED FOR SUCKPATRICK TO BE THE CAPTAIN AFTER HIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME START?

No fan in their right mind would question the decision to start Suckpatrick if: 1 he was winning. 2 we had a chance to make it to the playoffs. 3 Suckpatrick wasn’t turning over the d@mn ball.

  19. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

    is better

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I believe Jameis should be starting…..

If we lose and he doesn’t start next week, then it is most certainly because the Glazers have signed off on that.

Joe keeps calling for the Glazers to “step in”…..but in fact the Glazers may have already stepped in and that is why JW is benched.

I can’t wait until we dump you idiots. Go squidgy your Winston posters. I’ve never seen so many morons put one player ahead of the TEAM. Who got suspended? Who threw 4 picks in his last game? Who has regressed? Who was not voted a team captain? Who went rogue on his coaching staff during a game?

I’m so sick of you winston whiners. I hope you all leave when we dump that piece of trash in the garbage can.

  24. ateonetree Says:

dump koetter keep moken and make vic fangio head coach.

  25. BrianBucs Says:

    Joe

I’m starting to believe that it isn’t Koetter’s decision to keep Winston on the bench. It may have come from higher up the food chain.
However, the bench is where he belongs as he is a complete bust

  26. ben Says:

joe, why so much passion for Winston?? he is nothing special and you keep on like he is Tom Brady… He lied to his team and the fans after uber and has never been straight up . move on !!

  27. Pittsshore Says:

No Joe, what he was saying is that the Bucs have zero chance of winning with Winston starting. That is unless, you are playing the Browns in which the Bucs won despite Winston’s sorry arse play.

  28. BuccYa Says:

I saw it again on this msg board. Ppl wanting to keep Buckner. WHY?? D-Line is underperforming like crazy!! But Buckner has balls cause he yelled GMC once!!! Wow he made huge impact on GMCs game after that!! Please stop with the Buckner love. He yells. Whoop dee sh!t

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This site has lately become more depressing than watching the games. At least the games are over in a few hours. Here the pain is applied all day every day.

  30. DBS Says:

    1. This is an old story. And of course it is they way your going to take it and we should expect no less. Not that Winston may NOT be the best option. And Buck has done nothing. The line is as bad if not worse than it was before.

  31. Nano Says:

You people need to make up your mind
He benched him cause he was terrible is that simple
    Now bring him back?
Monken is right winning is the key
Like any job you don’t perform you out
Stop the panic think you all irrational
    Specially the press
    Season is done

  32. Rob Says:

Hey Joe. Would you really want the human ATM (America’s turnover machine), to be the last chance you have to save your job? I say emphatically hell no and if you say yes with a straight face, you must be doing shots of apple pie moonshine again. Either way, I’ll be doing shots of moonshine to get through the game today because win or lose (most likely lose), the Bucs will inevitably make the game harder than it should be due to interceptions, fumbled snaps, missed field goals, dropped touchdowns, no running game, poor tackling, horrid special teams, mind numbing holding penalties and off sides, encroachment on third and short, clock mismanagement. The problems are much deeper than your idol Jameis. I’ve seen enough of his ineptness because he loses way too many games he plays in. Forget Fitz, he is just a band aid until next year until he retires, the Bucs get another coach, and we blow half the team up and start again. Jameis is done. He should not dress out again unless you are comfortable scratching him a check for 20.9 million. He has pilfered enough cash from the Glazers already and I think they agree with me. Go Bucs!

  33. BigMacAttack Says:

When your team sucks this badly, it’s all about the cliches and memes. Wait, where do we post the memes? Asking for a friend.

  34. Pete I Says:

Winston, Fitz and Koetter all suck and need to be gone. Make it happen Glaziers.

If course the Glaziers suck too but unfortunately will stay.

    Jameis Winston on the bench!
    Galziers on the fence?
    Makes Joe wince!

  35. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

Wrong. Winning is everything. I don’t want to see a game where we lose. Losing sucks. If after four years Winston doesn’t know how to be a QB, then so be it. But, QB is not our problem, it’s running and defense, or lack there of.
Team mates don’t trust Winston. He lied to them about what happened, and they won’t forgive him for it. Whose to say there isn’t another issue out there we don’t know about. Bottom line, let’s win now.

  36. JIMMY T Says:

    TREX
JAMIES IS TRASH? U r clueless! He’s won more games than any other QB here that’s for sure! 48 games and the # 1 pick FOR A REASON, the BUCS STINK yer as a rookie he had them at 6-6 with absolutely no D and he was barely 20 yrs old. 15 picks a second a rook yet 9 came in 3 games. Year 2 9-7 didn’t miss a start no running game but improved D! Last year the guy had a bum shoulder but when healthy last 5 games was at the TOP OF NFL in passing efficiency and 3 FREAKING starts! Trash? Your insane!

  37. JIMMY T Says:

And this year only 3 freaking starts so basically since the BROWNS win for whatever reason Jameis & Dirk relationship over with. Something happened in that game that soured their relationship! One horrific game against CINCY when FITZ has been just as bad and u sit him? Glazers slowing Koeter to hang himself! I am SURE they ha e talked to people they trust there is no question Jameis will be here next year! DIRK IS TOAST!

  38. Jlbucs Says:

JW is on double secret suspension from nfl

  39. T REX Says:

    Winston is garbage.

  40. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

JW never should have seen the field this year. Ubergate should have sent him home for the season. He was a risky pick to begin with with all the off field BS, yet he assured the team he would keep clean. Nope! Let down his fans, his coaches and his teammates. Jameis earned his spot on the end of the bench.

  41. tmaxcon Says:

    BradentuckeyBuc

I hooe your son or daughter gets railroaded without due process….. jameis has never neen convicted of anything. he is a victim of a pc culture derangement led by libtards.

Innocent until proven guilty matters not pc libtard agendas….

    #MeTooHard

  42. WalkdaPlank Says:

“The kid that owns almost every Bucs passing record”

To my knowledge, Jameis Winston owns ZERO Bucs passing records. Most yards is Vinny, most TD’s is Freeman.

  43. D-Rome Says:

Enough with this development nonsense. We have 50 games of Jameis on tape. This is who he is and it’s not going to look any different with another 10, 20 games ect….

The players are paid to win. They aren’t paid to help develop a single guy. It was different when he was a rookie, not a fourth-year pro. The Bucs are making the right decision. The sooner the team moves on from this idea that the future is all about one guy, the better the franchise will be.

  44. meh Says:

We need to get rid of Licht, Koetter, and Winston.

  45. ModHairKen Says:

BuccYa, agree 100%. Buckner yelling does not make him a good coach. The DL is a huge disappointment. Pressure is what DBs need.

And these Jameis clowns need to get a grip. He is reckless, inaccurate and an immature leader. He has been an embarrassment off the field. What year is he in? This crap about “he needs to play so we can see what we’ve got.” No, we don’t. He has shown us over and again.

  46. Buc1987 Says:

    meh….and that will fix everything….

  47. JabooBuc Says:

Let’s face it, in no way has JW earned a $20 mil/year payday. They made a mistake and now don’t want to pay for that mistake at a premium. Options will reveal themselves either for this regime or the next at the end of the year.

  48. Cobraboy Says:

    Again?

  49. Buc1987 Says:

    ModHairKen….I’m a Jameis clown….

Fitz will throw 3 more INT’s today….let’s leave Jameis on the bench cause we already know what we have in him. That’s your stupidity?

Where were you guys the last 3 years on here…????

    In hiding?

WalkThePlank…were you in jail or something?

Just wondering. You vanished for a long time….

The Bucs could LOSE out the remaining games(prolly WILL)…..and these IDIOTS would be happy with it just so long as Jameis is not starting. SMH

ALL OF THEM WILL BE GONE NEXT YEAR.

BUT WE DON’T NEED TO SEE ANYMORE OF JAMEIS…..you’re right.

    Just lose with Fitz.

  50. Mike Johnson Says:

We’ve invested entirely to much in Jameis. To much. Another HC would do well to effectively evaluate Jameis. Koetter’s got him in the..Throwin Somoan role. A la old school Jim Plunkett mode! Lets get a coach in here who will develop an effective running game where we can balnce out Jameis. Thats all he needs.

  51. WalkdaPlank Says:

    87

To answer your question I am in the military and was on deployment most of last season.

    Basically jail lol

  52. Who Cares Says:

Would be nice if the Glazers pulled. USC and fired Kotter on the tarmack
