Mark Dominik Analyzes Team Glazer Evaluation Of The Bucs’ Front Office & Roster

November 29th, 2018

“Jason, let’s hit the film room.”

Few men on the planet have more intimate knowledge of the football workings of Team Glazer than former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik.

Today, Dominik provided a window into that world.

He was hit with questions about the future of the current regime at One Buc Palace, the regime that replaced his in 2014. He was asked how Team Glazer will evaluate the current team and they might see that would prevent them from making wholesale changes after the season.

Speaking on WDAE-AM 620, Dominik replied with great detail and stressed that consistency will be important to Team Glazer.

“Let’s see the different phases play well. Let’s see young players ascending. Let’s see development and growth. If we’re not going to have the wins and losses we hope to have, the 10-6, 11-5 or, you know, the chance to win the division, at least let’s see development of young players [and them] continue to grow. And so, I think that’s a big part you’re looking for is how are young players growing in the system, not just playing. You can start a rookie anytime; it doesn’t make him a good player. It just means you started him because you wanted to or had to. But the development of players in terms of statistically are they playing better. And again, you can’t just look at a box score and say, ‘Well, this guy’s really good because he had four tackles’. You got to look and see the traits,” Dominik said.

“And as I know them as owners, I’m sure that they’re talking to Jason [Licht] a lot about, ‘Tell me about it. Let’s watch some tape together. Let’s see where are we growing as a football team because that’s the most important part we’ve got to see.’

“And then I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of judging on, you know, not only this year’s [draft] class, but the last previous two or three years’ classes. Let’s go through the draft classes and see where the hits are and the misses and why, and I think that will be part of the tale, too.”

Dominik also added that there’s plenty of season left, enough for the Bucs and Jameis Winston to show they can play like the winning team many projected them to be. He also implied the Bucs currently are healthy enough to make it a fair evaluation time.

Very intriguing stuff from Dominik on how things might go down in December at One Buc Palace. Remember, Dominik started with the Bucs’ front office in 1995.

Ain’t seen no quit…..and we know what quit looks like with every coach since Gruden’s collapse…new DC and another year for L&K…Patience Coach hoppers

  2. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

I don’t mean to be mean………. but doesn’t it seem like Dominik is just sort of talking in circles? — Like, as opposed to speaking as a former GM of an NFL football team, any one of us here on JBF could have provided a variation of that answer?

    I don’t know, just a thought.

  3. D-Rome Says:

If the Bucs fail to win 3 more games he will have as bad a record as Mark Dominick. If the Bucs finish with only one more win, his record will be worse.

  4. ChanEpic Says:

So when they turn their attention to RoJo and his development vs draft position, will they conclude that Licht is a bad judge of talent, like the rest of us?

  5. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Jason Licht has wasted a lot of glazer cash

  6. Eric Says:

When they got to give away tickets………..

  7. TOM Says:

Licht when you leave don’t let the door hit you in the arse. Farewell, goodby & good riddance

  8. aceinthehole Says:

I don’t understand why fans care about the Glazer’s money. There is a salary floor, they have to spend money. If you are implying that Licht has made bad signings with the money then isn’t that really the point? For the most part though, the Bucs have done an excellent job in limiting the consequences of bad signings to the year in which the player is here. The Bucs at least have the option of moving on from bad signings quickly because they manage the salary cap very well.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Few men on the planet have their head up their a$$es farther than Mark Dominick…..undoubtedly the worst GM in Buc history, and that includes the current one…..a hard feat.

  10. Mike Johnson Says:

Alls I know is Carolina is comin in here PISSED. They’ve had 2 very close losses. Look for them to try and cut the Bucs heart out. Our season is over. By that I mean. forgetabout Playoffs. Time to see what our bench boyz got. Paging Ronald Jones..Anybody seen..Mr Jones?

  11. 813bucboi Says:

glazer cant afford to be patient….they’re alreayd “giving” away tickets….lol….dirk has had years to see players develop under him and they havent…..

name 1 player thats not a wr or te that has “developed” under dirk…..aint none!!!!!!

time for dirk to call smitty and ask who has better rates…U-HAUL or Penske

    KRIS RICHARD 4 HC!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’m open minded to giving the coach / GM just one more year IF:

-We finish 8-8 or better AND
-We don’t get blown out in any game AND
-We see development of many players – particularly the defense

Anything worse and it’s hard not to want to hit reset; and even the above isn’t really a great season for what it could have been.

Ideal dream scenario would be the Ravens being dumb and letting Harbaugh go (#1 scoring defense this year at 18PPG). Sign him; keep Monken at OC; and hire a GM that Ozzie Newsome recommends lol

  13. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Licht has not built anything on this team except the NFL historically worst defense and that is it….he has consistently missed on college players for his kooky moves….HE DRAFTED A KICKER to a 6-10 team, please licht needs to be gone the moment the curtain drops on this 6-10 season

  14. Seminole Bill Says:

The question the Glazers must first answer is whether Jameis is the QB this team wants to go forward with. Given his performance on and off the field, the answer has to be “no”. Now, if Jameis is willing to forgo his $21 payment for a year, then the answer is “maybe”.

  15. westernbuc Says:

I love the idea that Koetter hasn’t “developed players.” But you guys want Harbaugh to replace him, and Flacco has regressed since the super bowl….

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    LC

    we have:

    Panthers
    Saints
    Ravens
    Cowboys
    Falcons

coming up……i see maybe 1 more win with us finishing 5-11 again….realistically, you think we can get to 8wins?..lol…..what do you think our final record would be?

  17. miken Says:

every year we say we have a great bunch of rookies and 3 years later, not really.

  18. miken Says:

jameis will do fine down the stretch and be back next year to do it all over again. 6-10 in 2019!!!!

    Bwhahahahahahaaha

  20. SOEbuc Says:

Uhhhh…Let’s not talk to Mark “Rock Star” Dominik how to run a football team. Especially how the Glazers should run the Bucs. Much worse than Licht and there’s a reason he’s an analyst and not working at any spot in a team’s front office.

  21. Anonymous Says:

Jason results with free agency and drafting….
    Mediocre

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Be funny to win the rest to get to 9-7 and then beat in the tie breaker like with the Giants 2015.

  23. pepsi Says:

You just cant bring Licht back, hes responsible for so much of this. Our Oline somehow got way more expensive and much worse than last year.. I mean it would have been hard for that to happen but Licht pulled it off. We went from solid Center play last year to bottom 10 in the league this year while spending 10mil on the guy. We used a 2nd round on a RB whos become a healthy scratch and a corner back(stewart) will will be on someones practice squad in a couple years. hes been blowing second round picks repeatedly and them somehow blows 2 of them in one year lol. awful awful GM. but hey keep “following the licht” right Stick Carriers?

  24. Rod Munch Says:

SOEbuc, 9-7 in the NFC South is probably last place.

  25. Hodad Says:

If they bring Koetter, and Licht back the fans will continue to stay away. Giving away tickets because your stadium is half empty is not a good look for the current regime. Spending millions on your O,and D lines, and still having the worst run game, and worst defense in the league is damning. Needing a running back, and using a high second round pick on one who’s a healthy scratch all season is not going to cut it. I can’t believe some want to stay this course. I liken it to Stockholm syndrome.

  26. Dapostman Says:

That picture reminded me of Rainman. lol

  27. Buc believer Says:

It ALWAYS cracks me up that Koe holds out Dominek the Destroyer as the dean of football knowledge. This joker was the absolute WORST GM in the HISTORY of sports yet over and over and over again he is sited as the end all and the most inside insider in all of sports….. according to Joe! Good grief gives one a reason to think Joe is big time flawed in other areas as well.

  28. Dooshlarue Says:

Barring a total collapse I’m ok with keeping Dirk and Jason for one more year.
Just please, hire a hard nose DC and OL coach.

  29. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

@Dapostman,, I can actually see it too lol

  30. Rojas Says:

Give me any of these head coaches not named Jim schwartz
    Dave Toub
    Eric Bieniemy
    Vic Fangio
    John Harbaugh
    Bruce Arians
    Lincoln Riley
    Kliff Kingsbury
    Kris Richards
    Brain Kelly

  31. Whatisupkyle Says:

I can’t wait till we end up going 7-9 or 8-8 and we end up keeping Koetter pissing off so many ppl, remember dirk got a five year deal don’t think glazers love paying all these coaches who are gone. And honesty he hasn’t done that bad of a job Licht just can’t draft or sign the defensive players for s not dirks fault. Haven’t had a decent defensive line his entire tenured here think he gets one more year

  32. Loyaltotheend Says:

Dominik was such a good GM he’s been unemployed by the nfl with no interviews since he was fired 5 years ago

Not sure if his opinion carries much weight anymore anywhere outside of Tampa

  33. stpetebucsfan Says:

We can all have our personal “feelings” about all of these folks…Koetter, Licht, Jameis, GMC, and on and on but it’s going to be about performance and how the team looks down the stretch.

There are of course many possibilities including keeping everybody and then watching us burn and have to start our rebuild in 2020. But it could feature a remainder of season where JW plays as he did Sunday…under control and disciplined…if JW masters that aspect of the game…then I’m with the JW lovers here I think the sky is the limit. Let’s see him do it over the next five games.

If he does will you be shocked? I won’t. Let’s see the D line continue in their ferocity and with that great chemistry they got goin on. Will we be surprised? No because the DL should only get better with the return of some injured players to give us depth. I like out safety play right now…we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed for the CB’s but if our DL can pound QB’s like they did Sunday it’ll be fine.

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

I do not believe the fans will stay or leave depending on who the Buc’s retain…Jameis…Koetter…Licht…nobody makes a difference.

Buc’s fans will stay away or return to the stadium depending on how many games the Buc’s can win and the quality of football they’re playing. They’ll forgive everybody and everything else…Just win baby!

  35. Alanbucsfan Says:

Vea is the only 1st round pick Licht has made for both offensive and defensive lines. He keeps trying to fix this with free agents.
He got Jameis some excellent receivers and Evans and Whitehead look to be the safeties of future.
Davis and Hargreaves (if he could stay healthy) may work out at corner.
The team needs a head coach that believes in running the ball and pressuring qb. Licht needs to continue to draft for the trenches in the 1st round.

  36. Joseph Mamma Says:

The glazers are asking to watch tape with licht!? That is literally the funniest thing ever written on this site.

  37. Cobraboy Says:

@stpetebucsfan: the current LB’s are very weak.

Bulloch looks like an overachieving high school kid out there, and the other two look slow and lost.

This team needs some serious LB talent in the draft.

  38. Cobraboy Says:

Koetter and Licht may avoid the axe if the team shows great improvement down the stretch. Sunday was a solid start.

But not a chance the D staff survives, including Duffner.

  39. Pugs&Bucs Says:

Asking Mark Dominik to evaluate a roster is about as dumb as asking Rosie O’Donnell for her opinion on P90x.

  40. Jason S. Mclaurin Says:

Let’s keep Licht and Koetter and Winston in town for one more go. I like the idea of paying Winston the big money for one year to see what he really does and where his head really is. I would like to Licht back because I love his drafting. If Vea was not injured from the start there would be different talk on him. Licht also made the trade of the decade by getting JPP. He drafted four DBs that are developing nicely to me for the situation. I would like to see Koetter back just because the guy got dealt a bad hand from the start with the Winston suspension. They should leave everyone involved on the hot seat this year because there’s no telling how they finish. Right now though I say keep everyone and keep building it looks destined to prosper soon
