Koetter Discusses Job Status

November 11th, 2018

So, was today’s putrid loss to the Redskins, the lowest point total of the season, the beginning of the end for Bucs coach Dirk Koetter?

The Bucs’ third-year coach, now saddled with a 3-6 record, was asked by a local radio reporter at his postgame presser if he thought his job was in jeopardy.

Koetter initially responded as if either he didn’t understand the question or didn’t hear the question. Koetter, as one can imagine, looked physically crushed. But when the question of job security came up, Koetter seemed surprised and his demeanor changed and asked for the question to be repeated.

When asked again, Koetter said, as he had before, it all ends with him as coach. Then Koetter added about his job status,

“That’s somebody else’s decision.”

    Spoiler alert: he gone

  2. WalkdaPlank Says:

He’s done. One cannot have so many red zones appearances in one game and only come away with 3 points. Or throw the challenge flag when you have no timeouts giving the other team a first down. Or relying on a “kicker”. Or punting from the opposing teams 36 yard line. It doesn’t add up.

    Dirk is a good OC.

    But an awful head coach

  3. Buc4life7878 Says:

He took the play calls from Monken. He knows he’s done.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

Team has already quit. If glazers had a spine between the 4 they’d put this fool out of his misery

  5. Kalind Says:

Toast. Cooked like last nights dinner.

  6. Season Is Over Says:

The Bucs suck from one thing to another from week to week because none of the coaches are actually in control of the situation. It looks to be a free-for-all and that is unfortunate for the fans. All the words are lip service. You can see the effort with your own eyes. The team gives minimal effort. Just enough to masquerade as a NFL player. Name one player sat or suspended by Koetter for anything that wasn’t actually forced on him.

  7. Wesley Says:

Gotta play Jameis from here on out, gotta see what we have in him, two bad games isn’t enough to judge him.

  8. Dom is gone...Licht Says:

Look how good the Browns looked today after firing the head coach…. what are you waiting on Glazers??

  9. Curse of Gruden Says:

Koetter should have been fired by the end of the presser.

  10. Jason Says:

Although I wouldn’t mind if it happened, you don’t really think they’d fire DK before the end of the season, do you? Who would they promote from within? Monken? Puleaseeeeeeeeee!

  11. lurker Says:

    on another note…

who is the new colonel sanders? the chicken and waffles one.

  12. Darin Says:

So the offense is on pace for all kinds of team records. So Dirk takes back play calling. Puts up a big 3. Defense is on pace for nfl records, the wrong way. He waits a year too long to change anything. This guy gets worse every week. No idea that was possible after he threw in the towel before halftime in Arizona last season. I hope the Glazers want continuity, after they fire Dirk tonight. Booooooooooooooooo

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Dirk is just burning down the team on his way out the door. He’s throwing players under the bus, he’s throwing coaches under the bus, he just wants to get fired so he can have a nice paid vacation.

  14. Kalind Says:

Frankly, i don’t care. He made his bed with his ridiculous loyalty to Smith and a complete lack of interest in making sure the defense could actually defend anything. This team is hot garbage. Licht and Koetter both edd to go, as well as our “stars” on defense (not you JPP!) and there needs to be a sever cultural overhaul.

  15. SkBucsFan Says:

lol. why get rid of him now? The time to do it was after last season. Why not let him”coach” and help ensure we get a high draft pick. Instead they should fire Licht right now. Look for a new GM that can put a plan together including trading players for picks in the upcoming draft.

  16. Destinjohnny Says:

    We have 6-10 talent
    We are right on track

  17. Darin Says:

    Jason
No i dont think they would since they didn’t after he made himself look pop warner all last year. But they will the minute the season ends. Well I sure hope.

  18. SkBucsFan Says:

I am not sure Lurker. I was wondering that too.

  19. Curse of Gruden Says:

Monken can coach the team to a 3-13 record just as easily as Koetter can.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Where is the talk coming from that Dirk took back playcalling duty today? Is that just internet gossip or did it come from a legit source? I know Dirk inserted his run up the middle for no gain on 1st and 10 after the Eagles game, but who is saying he called all the plays today? If so – well there’s another reason to fire him.

  21. TBB2017 Says:

burn the m$#$#% down….. can’t even watch anymore games. dirk- please reimburse me for my direct tv this year. thanks.

  22. Season Is Over Says:

Vegas had it dead ass right again. Haha. Amazing. Two years in a row. They love how predictable Dirk “We were done before Halloween” Koetter has been.

  23. Ndog Says:

The day he chose Fitz over Jameis he was done. In fact he should have made it clear in the preseason that when Jameis returned he was the starter cause that is what divided this team so it is 100% on him. But who’s suprised by this as he also is on record supporating DJAX who is probably the most selfish player on this team. That’s not how you build a winner.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Last week a fake punt from the 26…..this week a challenge flag with no time outs and he stated he knew that…

Those two incidents are a sign of extreme frustration…..you really can’t blame him with all of the turnovers and bungled plays….but he lost his cool completely…..It’s obviously over for him and I think he knows it……good guy but is over his head.

Jameis will get his shot again and we will see what we have going forward.
That is perhaps the only silver lining to this loss….along with a better draft pick.

  25. cmurda Says:

I just read that Koetter said he called the plays today. When asked why he said for his own reasons. WTF is going on here?

Dirk Koetter says he handled playcalling today for first time this season.

  27. SkBucsFan Says:

Why? I believe he is auditioning for a OC job with another team in the future.

  28. Buccfan37 Says:

The revolving coaching door has left fans hanging with losing games as a given that are hard to watch and confidence draining.

  29. lurker Says:

    ummmmmm
jameis is the most selfish, not desean jackson.

who got himself suspended after promising his college stuff was behind him?

  30. Bucsace Says:

Nobody in this current regime will survive after this season……and that includes Jameis Winston!!!

  31. Frank Pillow Says:

Dirk’s playcalling= 3 points at home. Nuff said

  32. Bucsace Says:

Nobody in this current regime will survive to see next season……and that includes Jameis Winston!!!

  33. Elita Vita Says:

Yes, Dirk Koetter’s era with the Bucs is over. He gave it his all, but he himself admits he does not know what to do to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, finding ways to rectify such situations is his job. So fellow Bucs fans, time to brainstorm to move on forward.
Who is or might be available that has the capabilities to build a respectful team with a winning culture?
Let’s get behind the rebuild and look for solutions and move forward.
    Go Bucs!

  34. jb Says:

I just hope come Dec. 30th around 6pm that we’re told the Glazers have decided The Winston, Licht and Koetter experiment is Kaput, then further announce that the jobs of Winston and Gerald “Can’t Wait to cash my Fat Paycheck” McCoy will be up to the new GM and head coach. This team gets worse with each game played! How in HELL Do you put up over 500 yards of offense and manage only 3 points? Only the Bucs are capable of such ridiculous stats, points combination. Licht has every bit as much responsibility for this 4 year disaster as Koetter or anyone else. Meanwhile the Saints are the toast of the league. Why? Because they didn’t spend a valuable 2nd round pick on a head case kicker. They also didn’t pass on the likes of running back Alvin Kamera, while brainiac Jason “I’ve Never Met a Kicker I didn’t Like” Licht picks a corner that can’t even crack the starting lineup of the worst defense in the league!

  35. Swanee Says:

The Glasers are fully responsible for this mess of a season. At the end of last season I said it was a huge mistake retaining this head coach, GM and our scouts. Their ability to assess talent is very poor. Was a mistake for Koetter to assume play calling for today’s game. Organization can’t seem to have the ability to draft a consistent place kicker. Our current place kicker should have been released in October. These decisions will set this team back several seasons before making the playoffs.

  36. Lovie Smith Says:

Taking the play calling away from a guy that’s lighting up the score board is a no no! It’s just that simple.

  37. orlbucfan Says:

Don’t believe in miracles. This whole situation is a cryin’ shame. Koetter has regressed in calling his offense since he became HC two seasons ago. He can’t handle the pressure and the offense that he built is suffering for it. Bench Fitzpatrick. He should be out of football. Start Griffin and make Winston #2. Sure won’t hurt. This team is better than 3-6. Thanks for the insult, Koetter.

  38. JimmyJack Says:

I’d rather see this end now. I have no logical reason to even watch this team on T.V.

Give us new leadership and give us a reason to care.

  39. jb Says:

Forget inserting Winston as starting QB. He’s one of the reasons Koetter and Licht find themselves in this predicament. He lies his a$$ off to these guys then goes about being the no account person and QB he’s proven himself to be since before and after he was drafted. Good Riddance to both he and McCoy!

Did Be-otch just come out of the closet?

  41. JimmyJack Says:

This guy is on the Richie Kotite/Romeo Carnell evel of coaching.

  42. Patrick in SC (formerly VA) Says:

I’ve been through a lot of coaching hires and fires with the Bucs over the years. Koetter going sucks the most out of all of them so far for me. I think because he was the one that I had the highest hopes for with the potential we had with the team that he was working with. He’s also a likable guy and someone that I was looking forward to being the coach of the team for a long run. I don’t like that it’s time for him to go, but it’s time. He’s lost the team.

  43. Mike Johnson Says:

Koetter is going to be OK. He and Smitty will safely land in a nice Divisional 2 college team and have success with those programs. They both have had there NFl shots. I counted 3 easy TD’s in redzone and a missed FG Thats 24 points. Hell 14 of those would have won the dam game for us. Now you got the Giants and the niners upcoming. Watch him lose one of those. I betcha…

  44. Ed Says:

The Giants are not very good but I’m willing to bet Beckham and Barkley rock their stadium next week because any receiver or RB has their best games vs the Bucs. I expect the Bucs to continue giving up big plays to good players

  45. buccfan305 Says:

He was gone 2 week ago…no question….he F#@king sucks snd should have never been hired

  46. buccfan305 Says:

He’s gone plenty of time to suck on bit of honey now. Garbage MF!!

  47. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

He didn’t want to coach this year…had his mental bags packed before Winston hit Godwin for a game winner. Costly, costly win that was. Dirk was ready to head back to Idaho with pay…the way NFL coaching contract work would have paid him if he coached this season or not. What a never ending joke this is.

  48. Who Cares Says:

It is unbelievable that both the head coach and the General Manager are still employed , this franchise has no direction and certainly has no leadership from the top on down. It is so hard to stay a fan of this team when year after year it’s the same script over and over .

Fire Koetter tomorrow. The guy has lost the team and the season is in the tank. No need to keep his whiny ass around another minute he adds no value.

  54. King C Says:

Dirk Koetter has wanted to be fired since the offseason
He never really wanted to be the head coach tied to Jameis anyway
