Kendell Beckwith Out For Year

November 19th, 2018

Placed on IR.

Kendell Beckwith’s rehab for 2018 is now a thing of the past.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter announced that the second-year starting linebacker, who had yet to dress for a game, will be placed on injured reserve, thus ending his 2018 season.

Beckwith suffered a fractured ankle in an April car wreck in which he was a passenger in Louisiana just days before offseason workouts began. His surgically-repaired ankle just wasn’t good enough for Bucs medical staff to clear him for football contact.

Today, Koetter said Beckwith’s rehab would take him past the window to allow him to come off injured reserve. So his season is over.

So the Bucs are down three starting linebackers: Kwon Alexander, Lavonte David and Beckwith.

    Ugh. Well, next man up…again!

  2. Dewey Selmon Says:

I was going to mention it in your last post but didn’t want to hijack your thread. He might not even start next year if we have a new regime. bet his buddy who wrecked his car isn’t very happy about this either.

He might not even start again. Period. Or maybe play again.

This obviously was a major injury. For all we know Beckwith may have shattered his ankle. Those don’t heal so easily.

Missing a full year due to ankle injury is not very reassuring. And that sucks because it was not a football injury.

  4. PSLBob Says:

Not to mention he showed tremendous promise.

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

    Well said Joe.

  6. Doctor_berto Says:

This might be the roughest injury to deal with due to my hope he would take over Kwon’s starting MLB position next season

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Well….so much for choosing the wrong designated driver……Kendall was a passenger in his own car when the driver (with suspended license) crashed into a gate…..
As far as insurance is concerned, Kendall will be covered by his own policy for both medical payments (likely only about $10K) and liability to policy limits. Let’s hope he had big limits. He could go after the driver’s policy for excess but the driver likely had no coverage if his license was suspended.
Who knows what his situation is with the Bucs re salary/contract going forward with injury…..

  9. adam from ny Says:

yall didn’t really think he was coming back this season…common sense my friends, common sense

  10. Pickgrin Says:

Surely the Bucs knew there was a good chance that Beckwith was likely out for the year with the seriousness of his injury from the car wreck.

Yet publicly postured “hope” that he would be ready for Training Camp – then the regular season – then the 2nd half of the season. Now he’s still too injured to play a down in 2018…

Why? Why play it that way when you know up front the guy has a very serious injury? It basically feels like the fans were lied to about the likelihood of Beckwith’s return this year.

Just irks me how the team does stupid, meaningless stuff like this that continually fosters disconnect with the fan base. Like it was better that we not know he probably wouldn’t play again this year or something. Don’t want to discourage hope – and MAYBE he CAN make another miraculous recovery like he did last year coming back from the acl… SMH.

Either that or the whole medical staff needs to be fired just because of all the inept handlings of injuries – but I’ve thought that for I don’t know how many years in a row now… The Carl Nicks, MRSA and JR Sweezy situations still seem pertinent to that track record….

  11. Nprbuc Says:

Weren’t we led to believe that he may even be back in time for preseason? What is it with this team never letting their paying customers know what is going on with their injured players? I can understand if a guy is iffy going into a game next weekend. There is a bit of strategy involved in not wanting your completion to know who to expect to line up across from. Having a guy hurt during the off season, mysterious calf injury first day in pads, etc? Is our medical staff just terrible at judging injuries? If so, replace them when we clean house. We have been hoping all friggin year that maybe next week would be the week we would get Beckwith back. They had to wait until the second half of the season to make the call? Everything about the way this team is run sucks.

  12. John Says:

You guys are reading into this too much. They shut him down because this team is going nowhere. No point in bringing him back to a team that isn’t contending. If we were 5-5 and needed a backer he would be back. No point in gambling now. Save him for next year.

  13. Bucsfanman Says:

Pickgrin- It’s that “disconnect” that bothers me too. I mean does it really make any difference if it’s announced earlier, knowing the severity? It just seems petty.
I agree about the medical staff too. What in all the h3ll is going on with this place?!

  14. adam from ny Says:

jameis just told jenna he is starting vs the 49ers because he dgaf!

  15. nobucsgiven Says:

What on earth is going on with the bucs medical staff? With the exception of OJ Howard, I’m having a hard time thinking of an injured player that returned in the original timeframe. I’m sure there are some, but these projections are always way off.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    not surprised at all……

the medical staff needs a full house cleaning as well……

Must have somthing to do with that new Medical Place. Invent A Diagnosis or something like that.

  19. Rover Says:

Id take broken ankle Beckwith over a healthy Kwon any day.

  20. JabooBuc Says:

813- what does the medical staff have to do with this?

  21. AJ Says:

Go get healthy son. No sense rushing him back to this mess. Start fresh next year with new coaching and better outlook.

  22. LakeLand Says:

I knew this 3 months ago

  23. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

Ooooo no!!!!! Without Kendal Beckwith teams will score 40 points on us

  24. 813bucboi Says:

    jaboo

if you’ve kept up with the bucs the last few years, you would know why….

and im not the only person questioning whats going on with the medical staff…..

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So much potential. One thing you can say about Jason Licht…he knows Linebackers. I firmly believe Beckwith was David’s eventual replacement. Now that is up in the air.

  26. Not there yet Says:

It’s a wasted season even if he came back you can’t make this defense any better. Get healthy my dude and enjoy the vacation. Watch game film but be thankful you don’t have to study this pathetic defense any longer

While I agree the strength and conditioning people need a look over, in this case you are off base. Beckwith’s injury had nothing to do with football, therefore it was treated by outside doctors until he was cleared for football operations. Then it was up to the Bucs medical staff to clear him to play.

Obviously, he wasn’t ready, and that;s not the fault of the Bucs staff.

Being perpetually negative does not make you knowledgeable.

  29. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

Pear shaped Petey D. and others sure threw a fit when I predicted this outcome. It’s a shame…because he did flash before the boneheaded offfseason situation. Another Licht trade-up gone sideways…

  30. 813bucboi Says:

    bonzai

its not just beckwith…..this medical staff has misdiagnosed injuries or have been far off on a players recovery time…..

remember winston…..our medical staff said he was ok to play…..winston went and got a 2nd opinion and thats when he was shut down…..bucs medical staff missed that……

this year VV has a calf injury….medical staff said he’ll be out 2-4weeks…..he was out all of TC, all of PS and the first 4games of this season…..

i could go on and on……

this medical staff needs a full house cleaning right after the coaches…..

    Buccaneer Bonzai

    How is this negative?

The injury Kendell Beckwith had, wasn’t the type of injury you bounce back from in a short period of time.

    This is not negative

    This is Common sense

Thats just awful. Dude works his tail off to return from a torn ACL last year and then a freaking car accident sidelines him. I feel sick for the guy.

  35. BigMacAttack Says:

This team is probably 5yrs away from making playoffs, even with a new GM. Licht has set them back further than when he started with all of his missed draft picks. I can’t think how anyone would even want to take Dirky’s job, the roster is so bad. Receivers are good and Jameis at QB may come around. Everywhere else is one big gaping hole. Worst defense in history and an offensive line that can’t block. By the time the next GM gets it built he’ll have to start over again. One big fat mess. Saban’s Tide would beat the Bucs by 30 points at least. They are so bad.

  36. bucsfaninchina Says:

    Next year’s MLB. Let’s gooooooo

  37. adam from ny Says:

as expected…he was never coming back this year

  38. Sydney Says:

It’s already known inside the building his career is over.

  39. Miguel Grande Says:

Don’t the Bucs have the option of bringing one player back from IR?

I’d like to see Hargraves back.

  40. bradinator Says:

Well that stinks. Maybe they decided to bubblewrap him until next season. He couldn’t save this one, that’s for sure. Might need him in case Kwon doesn’t come back from surgery (or free agency)

  41. Dave Anglin Says:

Just another check mark on another crap season!
