Jensen Would Enjoy Run Focus

November 25th, 2018

Wants to run the ball.

Let’s call it like we see it: More often than not the Bucs have been pistol-whipped this season.

In an attempt to build a nasty team, the Bucs too often have rolled on their back and cried “No mas” as the alley-beatings continued. With a completely decimated defense, might it be better to try to run the ball and play keep-away?

Well, there is some logic to this. Bucs running back Peyton Barber has twice in his career run for 100 yards in a game, last year in an overtime loss to the Packers (102 yards) and last week in a 38-35 loss to the Giants (106 yards).

Small sample size, yes, but if Barber gets 100 yards on the ground, it seems the Bucs are in a close game. So should be the Bucs, an elite passing team that cannot score enough, go ground-and-pound?

Ryan Jensen would sure like that.

The Bucs’ center, known for being an ornery sort on the field, would be more than happy with a renewed focus on running the ball, he told Joe after practice on Thanksgiving.

“It is awesome to get the run game rolling,” Jensen said. “[That leads to] complementary football. Running the ball and throwing the ball. Yeah, it is definitely something we enjoy doing.”

Again, the Bucs, though leading the league in passing, melt down in the red zone for reasons unknown. So if the Bucs can keep it close, then the Bucs have a chance to win now that they’ve regained their common sense and reinserted America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, into the starting lineup.

“If we can just get the run game going, it just adds to the passing game,” Jensen added.

Could today be that day?

Every time we get to the red zone we have an obligatory run play on 1st down…..and it is always stopped…..

The entire world (including my wife) who says….”Here comes the run”…..

How about let’s try a short pass or anything else for once.

  2. orlbucfan Says:

How about a bootleg option starring Fameis Jameis??

  3. Trench War Says:

c’mon TBBF …that would make us too unpredictable. We have a formula! lol

  4. Loyaltotheend Says:

Jensen and Marpet are the most overpaid linemen in the league all that money for so little push

  5. AJ Says:

As Confucius once said “everyone has plan – until get punched in mouth”

Sure it sounds great to run the ball and control the game. Need a defense to make some stops. And not dig deep holes so we can stick to a run game.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The running game is not going to get better until we get a big, hard running fullback to pound the defensive line into exhaustion. Wear them down fast, and they will break in pass rush too.

    Not really rocket science.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Great point, AJ.

Also, it bothers me that people think Barber is ‘good enough’. We need better than good enough.

  8. MHBuc1 Says:

So you draft a franchise QB so that he can be Glennon and a game manager huh? My oh my the goalposts are swaying in Tampa now. Not so long ago the pirate ship was full of mates looking for a franchise QB to sling it like Brees and Peyton. Now? They want their interception (and fumble) machine to hand the ball off so the egg on face can clean up.

  9. Kobe Faker Says:

“alot of money coming in on niners side. Opened at +3.5 and now at +1.5…went thru key number 3…

Shanahan the offensive guru is going to smack Gumps all pro defense all around the field”

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Rooting for a Bucs win every week until the end of the season. Winning out would be great, just to see the reactions here when Koetter gets a new contract.

    That would be hilarious.

  11. Jonathan Lipnicki Says:

The only thing more funny than Koetter being retained is a pear shaped fella redirecting web traffic to a “beautiful” 90 year old golden girl jumping on a mini trampoline…but I digress. Offensive lineman by and large prefer run blocking so that they can fire off the ball vs backpedal in a defensive pass blocking mode.

  12. stpetebucsfan Says:

Every OL loves to run the ball. But loving it and succeeding at it are two different things.

    Bonzai

    And you call people trolls?

No real Buc fan wants Dork or JLicht ( and quite possibly JW) any where near this team… It certainly wouldn’t be hilarious

You must be a division rival troll…”eye roll”

  14. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Bootleg option for Jameis?

I’m all for that…watching Jameis run is some funny sh1t…

This team could use the comic relief…right up until he fumbles.

  15. orlbucfan Says:

    Hey BBonzai,

Like seriously, when are we going to see an actual offensive (not stinky) gameplan that uses the talent including Barber to its advantage? So, far it has SUCKED. Fer crissakes, 500 yards of offense in a game, and we lose???? Give me a friggin’ break!

  16. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Bonzai that Idea so beyond dated. If you have a dominant O-line, some good blocking TE’s, willing blockers at receiver and a good running back, you absolutely do not need a FB to run the ball in todays NFL. Just ask the Cheifs, the Rams, the Bengals, the Steelers, and the Giants.

  17. SchwiftyBuc Says:

And if by some miracle Koetter actually did win out, I’d gladly see him retained for that kind of effort down the stretch.

But here’s the thing, that aint happening. In fact I’d say it’s at least 10 times more likely we lose out than it is we run the table. Koetter just isn’t a good enough HC and our Defense is historically bad. No way on earth does this team do better than 5-11 this year.

Say what you will haters and morons alike, I want us to go 3-13 with Jameis playing well because that’s the best possible outcome for us right now. We need to have at the very least a shot at getting a Nick Bosa type player in the 2019 draft.

  18. jmarkbuc Says:

    Cmon Joe

you know I’m right..JW runs like a baby Giraffe.

  19. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    Jmarkbuc

Yet for some reason he had 6 rushing touchdowns in his rookie year…

  20. Marine Buc Says:

Our running game sucks. These guys get zero push. Jensen is delusional if he thinks we should run the ball more.

  21. jmarkbuc Says:

    Schwifty

    And????

He still runs like a baby giraffe. Or as another poster said..Joe Cocker.

Lighten up man..You can be angry this afternoon….

  22. Kobe Faker Says:

“Is it just Kobe, but this fat Jensen have the same smirk as JR Sweezey?

“I just stole a $hitload of money smirk?

    Kobe Faker

  23. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

We could run the ball if Jameis stops being an idiot and complete some DEEP passes to deshawn Jackson, that will setup the run for delayed handoffs. But nooooooo that makes too much sense so Jamies won’t do it

DOUG MARTIN ONLY HAD 12 CAREER TD’S AS A BUC yet most of this site is ready to put his loser arse in the ring of underachievement.

Jameis is the most talented buc of all time yet the ignorant dungy nuthuggers and choirboy lovers rather live in a failed past than support this young man. No one calls 500 football with NO chance in postseason glory years outside of low standard buc fan with no clue…

Bucs don’t deserve Jameis and the NFL does not deserve to carry such a crappy franchise that does not even attempt to field a respectable product for nearly two decades. Talk about freeloaders shared ticket revenue and tv revenue yet they rank last in both areas. NFL should do fans a favor and force glazers out. Owners should have minimum standards to collect tv and ticket revenues. glazers have no incentive to get better nor desire to be great..

  25. Slugglife Says:

Well I’m hoping for a win because my employer gives us Mondays off(with pay) after a win.

Y’all get the day off after a win, don’t you?

  26. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    Nope I sure don’t.

  27. Trench War Says:

Please run the ball inside the red zone. Barber needs 2 more rushing TD’s. Please throw a 36 yard pass to DJax putting him over 750 for the season. Please let Barber rush 20 carries this game so Barber can achieve over 650 rushing yards for the season. Do all that and make me a happy fan!

  28. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

When this team gets blown up at the end of the year and McCoy and LVD are shown the door, this guy will be the next fan’s whipping boy?
