I found it curious too, that Koetter announced the starting QB so early if he wasn’t such an idiot, I might have thought he was up too something but he’s not smart enough for that. That would be like a trick play for him.

  2. lambchop Says:

Ofcourse Jameis wants to stay. This offense is built for the future. Nobody wants to be the guy that gets drafted #1 overall and fail with his team. There’s no guarantee he’ll be successful somewhere else.

When there were whispers last year about Dirk Koetter and Jameis having a rift in their relationship, you can be sure there is a gape in their relationship NOW.

Either Jameis will stay and Koetter gets fired, or Koetter stays and Jameis is let go. I really don’t see how this relationship can be salvaged now unless Jameis gets the starting job back and all of a sudden he plays pro-bowl level QB and everything ends on a positive note. Deja Vous of last year.

I don’t see that happening again. They both need to go if we tank the rest of the season and Winston’s behind center.

If Fitz plays lights out the rest of the year, what can possibly make you think that Winston is worth 20+M when a journey man QB can set offensive records on fire and your “franchise” QB has trouble throwing to his guys? It’s not about Fitz and how long he can play and whether he is a long-term solution (he isn’t). It’s an indictment on the ability of Jameis that someone else can run the same offense that he’s struggling with to play consistently well with.

  3. Trench War Says:

In his NFL debut undrafted 49er QB Nick Mullens completed 16 of 22 passes for 262 yards with three touchdowns and “no interceptions” in their 34-3 win over the Raiders.

This argument that Jameis can’t be replaced right away because he was the #1 pick in the draft doesn’t hold water when you watch an undrafted, relatively unknown rookie QB come in under the bright lights of Thursday Night Football, and put on a clinic. Jameis is not irreplaceable. …and it shouldn’t take a decade like some would have you believe. Whatever the Buc’s decide with Jameis, I’ll be behind them 100%. They deserve that much after every amount of drama Jameis has exposed them to. Seems he keeps the franchise in P.R. mode way to often for such a highly regarded position.

  4. lambchop Says:

I have a feeling that if Doug Pederson were dealing with this situation, he would do exactly what he did when Nick Foles took over for Wentz and struggled; he changed the offense to suit Nick’s strengths.

But Doug Pederson is not our coach. So, you have a coach and a QB who are both unable to adjust to the game.

Something has to give otherwise this is going to be groundhog day every season.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

@Lambchop … “Either Jameis will stay and Koetter gets fired, or Koetter stays and Jameis is let go.” I agree with you lambchop … for 2019. My gut feel is that Jameis will stay, on a 1-year ‘prove it’ contract, but that Koetter & company will be evicted. I’m personally hoping that Licht is ejected at the same time (he’s not our future), but I’m not totally convinced that the Glazer Boyz have the cajones to make that many changes simultaneously. I am still convinced however that they will bring in a highly-experienced President of Football Operations to reign over things starting at the end of this year (that seems to be the trend with many of the more successful franchises).

  6. Resurrection of Duff Says:

At 3-6 Jameis gets 2 losing games only!!!!

At 3-8 RYAN GRIFFIN OWNS DECEMBER!!!!!!!
