Inside Jameis Winston’s Mentality

November 21st, 2018

Interesting news conference today from Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback.

Jameis talks about “bonehead” turnovers, how he views his performance and about Dirk Koetter’s decision to bench him was not about a loss of confidence.

  1. Season Is Over Says:

No one wants to be 8-8 for the next ten years. Move on.

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

Jameis knows how to say all the right things
and can problem break opposing defenses down as fast and correctly as Tom Brady…
    his arm is unpredictable
and his decision making too late and desperate under pressure
    blah..blah…all that is well documented
finish the season to lay down more record
draft a QB with the 1st pick in 2019 and let stuff sort itself out in 2019

  3. Cgmaster27a Says:

Cool season is over ,then why dont you move on?

  4. Islam By Force Says:

All Praise to Allah and The Prophet Mohammed, please inform. what is the define of the ‘Bonerhead Turntover’? Please respondings in Arab I pray.

  5. jmarkbuc Says:

He’s said plenty of things, plenty of times…..

  6. Petty Officer Buc Says:

I wonder what crazy S.O.B. wants to come here to Tampa to coach. My hat is off to them

  7. Dapostman Says:

Winston needed the tough love done by Koetter. When you are sitting you can reflect on why am I sitting? Winston said it best, I made a boneheaded decision in Atlanta in the end zone. I made a boneheaded decision against Cleveland in OT. I had a really bad game against Cincinnati. Admitting the problem is the first step. I’ve been saying he will get the last 6 games. Win or lose it doesn’t matter because this is a team sport. What matters if Winston can build on decision making.

  8. jmarkbuc Says:

    Postman

He has always made bad decisions. When does he start “building” on decision making?

  9. Joe Blahak Says:

    “America’s Bonehead”….he stated it himself 🙂

  10. Dapostman Says:

    @jmarkbuc,

Sorry, I don’t have all the answers. I can’t tell you when or even if. All I can tell you is if he does it will be an improvement worth waiting for.

  11. Mike Johnson Says:

Can our Bucs beat the lowly 49ers? Its not a shoe-in. They lose to this team and Koetter and the Glazers might need bodyguards!

  12. Eric Says:

This website has some of the worst fan commentators ever. Very support for the team you claim to love. Love the site though.

  13. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    ^^ Agreed, Dapostman.

  15. Kobe Faker Says:

    “JW needs better footwork, mechanics

Better coaching, Short consistant passing attack, Better scheme

Better yac recievers that can separate

    JW has bad habits

Needs to replaced with good habits that can only develop thru consistent, continuous practice, practice and more practice until its 2nd nature …needs to be coached up

“Jameis needs to sit on the bench and ponder”

    The Bucsheep

  16. Guzzie Says:

Just stop saying JW is America’s QB, he needs to earn thst

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Here’s the good news. Winston showed better decision making vs the Giants. He he hit a deep sidelines pass.

It is a glimmer of hope for those that still believe in Winston. Means nothing if he cannot repeat it.

Either way his back is against the wall and the pressure is on. Moments like this are exciting to watch……Playoff pressure is more funner but we are the Yucs.

  18. SOEbuc Says:

This 24 year old hasn’t had one good coaching staff since coming into the NFL at 19. I believe him when talks at the podium that he feels with enough hard work he can become the best QB in the league and that it’s all about W’s. Glazers need to try their hardest to get the best HC that is known for putting together great coaching staffs and give him the keys for finding those guys.

Jameis mentioned this is a team sport. He has tons of interceptions. How many does our defense have?

Give us real coaches since you want a franchise QB so badly Glazer kids. Keeps throwing picks all day in 2019, then it’s Sam Ehlingher in 2020 (Big XII record for most passes without an interception).

  19. Joe Blahak Says:

He’s pretty subdued…I think he realizes now that he aint that good….Baloney talk about being the best…Try going a game without a turnover, WinSTUNNED…Nearly impossible for him

  20. Stokes963 Says:

Matt Ryan threw 45 INTs when Koetter was his OC, but that never gets brought up.

  21. BucTown Says:

I would not use ‘mentality’ and ‘Winston’ in the same sentence.

  22. AlteredEgo Says:

    MAQBGA

  23. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

Well I would not use “jkdlsi” and “uiuihwvbakjh” in the same sentence, BucTown, but that is just me.

    just playin’ 😉

  24. Eric Says:

    Go Jameis.

I predict greatness on display over the next six games.

Much to the disappointment of the haters.

  25. jmarkbuc Says:

” I made a boneheaded decision in Atlanta in the end zone. I made a boneheaded decision against Cleveland in OT. I had a really bad game against Cincinnati”

He’s never had a problem identifying what he’s doing wrong…he just keeps on doing it anyway..

He’s been at the mic saying he’s got to play better for years now.. Why is this time any different?

  26. Joe Blahak Says:

@jmarkbuc…Exactly, “I gotta play better” …DUH, It’s never going to happen. It’s not in him…

  27. Jean Lafitte Says:

If undrafted 9er’s QB Nick Mullens out performs Jameis (who has home field advantage) with their just as bad of a defense as the Bucs, then we need to seriously start thinking about drafting or signing another QB for next season. Seems other teams are doing fine outscoring their own sorry defenses but us. We leave too many drives without scoring. Not field goals either, we need touchdowns.

  28. Pickgrin Says:

Sounded like pretty honest responses to me.

I certainly don’t sense posturing behind any of Winston’s words today or at any point this year.

Build a good team around this QB – one capable of playing TEAM FOOTBALL – and you are looking at a STAR NFL Quarterback.

Jameis will always be more of a gunslinger than a check down charlie. That’s just how he plays. Finding the balance that allows for a few turnovers yet results in 2-3X as many TDs because of that aggressive nature coupled with high end talent is the key to success for this QB and this team.

Find a reasonable level of balance as a TEAM and Winston’s higher than average turnover ratio won’t be that much of a “problem” even if it does continue at a rate of roughly one per game.

More specifically in regards to the current state of the Buccaneers – give Jamies Winston a more reliable Oline, a good running game, an average defense and improved special teams play (including a good kicker of course) to go along with his talented group of receivers – and watch how quickly ‘ol Jaboo gets considered as one of the better QBs in the NFL…

  29. GhostofSchiano Says:

JimmyJack Says Here’s the good news. Winston showed better decision making vs the Giants. He he hit a deep sidelines pass.

    ————————————————————————————–

EXACTLY… can he do it each and every week for the next six weeks? It will be fun to watch.

  30. 813bucboi Says:

    963

    thanks for bringing that up……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  31. Jean Lafitte Says:

Jesus F Christ, he checks down all the time. Why do you see Hump getting so much attention? That’s when he’s accurate when the receiver settles in to an open area as a standing target. I don’t know what game you apologist are watching but you sure aren’t watching it objectively.

  32. Pickgrin Says:

“he checks down all the time”

Sure he does Jean – that’s why Winston leads the league in yards per pass play…

    SMH

  33. Jean Lafitte Says:

watch the next game and tell me that

  34. stpetebucsfan Says:

QB is not actually are pressing problem. JW doesn’t need to be HOF…and in fact he could be the 4th QB in our division and still be serviceable enough to allow us to win.

We have some talent, but we need a real clean out of attitude.
If that starts with JW so be it….if not then build a great defense to go along with the offense…and game plan around JW’s weaknesses.

  35. T REX Says:

He blamed his benching on Fitzmagic. He said he only had one bad game. He’s delusional. He’ll never get it. He says all the right things but never follows through. Anyone that believes him is an idiot.

  36. LakeLand Says:

He will have January to September to work on his craft

  37. Season Is Over Says:

He needs more time. More defense. More weapons. Better OL. If only he didn’t throw those four picks. If only it was a sunnier day. Different RBs would help. Are we taking crazy pills? Every one of these BS excuses were used when Freeman was fading into a footnote. I remember those fans asking for more. Give me one more, Daddy. How do you fans not see the same thing? Winston can’t even put two good games back to back without crumbling. This is year four. Winstopolgists have had four years and no one is convinced. Not even Winston.

  38. ERIC Says:

So if/ when Jameis does turn it around what will y’all say then

  39. Jean Lafitte Says:

So how long do we continue to lose waiting for if/ when Jameis does turn it around?

  40. Bucnut2 Says:

Eric- QB’s 4 years in are who they are. They don’t “turn it around”. Face it, he’s a horrible overall #1 draft pick and has set this franchise back ANOTHER 5 years. When you add in his fumbles, NO ONE has more turnovers in the NFL the last 4 years. This guy is a LOSER on and OFF the field!

  41. Zwak Says:

This was a great presser, now watch it again after Sunday’s game!

  42. Ndog Says:

So Jean what if he does play perfectly and we still lose cause we give up our usual 35 points? See you just don’t get it he threw for 395 and 4 TDs at Atlanta this year and we lost. Yes there was two TO’s in there but outside of those what more could he do, oh that’s play perfectly when NO OTHER UNIT IS EVEN AVERAGE. So let’s gets this straight he is being askied to do more than any other QB in the league because we have no running game and a crappy oline, yet the defense and kicking game can just be horrific and he’s the one we want to point the finger at. This has been every year of his career and you people want to blame the only part of this team that is actually producing? No he is not perfect so according to all of you we should get rid of him. So who are going to get that is going to win with no run game, no defense and no ability to kick field goals or heck even extra points?

  43. Jean Lafitte Says:

If Jameis plays well, not just this game, but consecutively without boneheaded plays, then I’m all for not giving up on him. We need to see more accuracy, better ball placements, ball security when running with the ball. When he starts doing that consistently we will all recognize it, but right now we’re not seeing it consistently enough while he puts even more stress on an already bad defense.

We WILL see IT ….now he has to do IT!

  44. Season Is Over Says:

No one is buying the Winstopology. Every year it is another BS excuse. This was the year. The window is almost closed. They put all the chips in this year and failed. Another eight weeks of useless football is the gift the Bucs give the fans each season. Not only is it useless, but you win a few games and it takes them right out of getting the difference makers making the fans more bitter. There is no wonder why the team doesn’t like the fans they created.

  45. RTG Bucs Says:

It is funny when people bring up drafting a QB in the first round next year, some people are completely clueless. Not a QB coming out next year that is better plus we have so many other needs. The entire f’ing defense minus JPP for one. An NFL starting RB that can get a few yards when needed and more on the O Line. And then some bring up Freeman, holy cow!! Get a clue. That kid should have never been drafted. Guarantee that if our puppy of a head coach at the time hadn’t partied with him in college he would have not gone till the 3rd or 4 round, if at all. Oh yea, and let’s lose for better draft position. It is a competitive game that you play to WIN! If you are not playing to WIN then you are just continuing the losing culture!

  46. Islam By Force Says:

All Praise to Allah and The Prophet Mohammed, please describe the buttcheeks of the mr-jameis-Winston-Americas-quarterback-pro-blower-uber-woman-driver(why does America permissible woman drive car..why.why….WHY!?!?)-kissing- crotch-drunker-finger-of-female-stink-man.

  47. Lamarcus Says:

Doesn’t matter JW your team is garbage anyway. You can have a perfect day and you will lose.

  48. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Whats thete to prove?

Last quarter of 2017, for 4-5 games after not completely healed from the shoulder injury he played better than everyone but 3-4 QBs last year

He has regressed this year starting 4 games behind than everyone

This incompetant lame brain decides jameis to start the year after halftime 3 tds down and must pass situation

The national media jumps on the interception number after the Cincinnati game and the last year of the contract

No one national knows anything about jw and tampa and how well he played end of last year because we are irrelevant

The local highschool tampa media and these websites goes along with the national JW bashing like he hadnt proven elite level play he performed last year 4 games ago

JW must leave this irrevalent $hithole to achieve success in his future

Bring father dungy in. Jw will be traded for a 2nd round to

    Giants or washington

  49. Oxycondoms Says:

Is he starting to pack on some weight? I remember during hard knocks he was working hard to get in shape was wondering if he lost that drive or if he is still keeping in good shape .

  50. lambchop Says:

Why doesn’t he just shutup and let his play do the talking? This is what I HATE most about Winston. All talk, no walk.

  51. Blackmagic00 Says:

This boy has lost his confidence. Can see the way he talks and his dimeener. such a shame.this franchise will probably be in the gutter forever. Let’s embrace the gutter people…………wait…………right, we have. It’s a bucs life!

  52. Oneilbucs Says:

963 I’ve made that point a lot but they hate Jamies so much that they will never say anything about that cause they noticed it but the hate for Jamies on this site is real . I think a lot of these people really just want a white quarterback and just don’t want to say it on this site. But for me I don’t care if our quarterback is white or black or brown or green I just know that Jamies is a good quarterback that’s my point . We need defense not quarterback. It will be stupid to draft a quarterback with the first round and our defense suck. Look at the saints they like to talk about the offense and Brees but they defense is really good and there running game that’s why they are wining. Brees have always put up numbers but now with that defense and the running game that’s why they win . We need defense like that and a running game like there’s and Winston will be great.
