Bucs Get A “C-“

November 13th, 2018

Back to the future.

Joe would be hard-pressed to give the Bucs this high of a grade for Sunday.

When a team racks up 501 yards of offense and only has a field goal, that is unacceptable. But even so, John Breech of CBS Sports gave the Bucs a passing grade for such nonsense.

In what might go down as the weirdest offensive day in NFL history, the Buccaneers totaled 501 yards, but scored just three points. It was the fewest points ever scored in an NFL game by a team that put up more than 500 yards of offense. If you’re wondering how that stat line could possibly happen, here’s how: The Buccaneers drove inside of Washington’s 30-yard line a total of six times and came away with just one field goal. The other five possessions ended with a two fumbles, an interception and two missed field goals.

Just think, the Bucs have had rotten defensive play all year long. They finally get a good game from the defense and the offense throws up all over Team Glazer’s wing-tips.

If you think about it, yesterday was what the Bucs did last year in a nutshell, when they moved the ball up and down the field but didn’t score points.

Still, three points?

But yeah, Jameis Winston is the problem. Sure.

Very generous of you Joe. I’d give them a F-. This whole organization is a joke.

  2. ghost Says:

Keeping in the spirit of crappy records achieved, we SHOULD put Jameis back in, Im sure he can knock testaverde out of the 2nd spot of most interceptions thrown in a season, if it not take the record

  3. snookman Says:

Joe- you keep bringing up jameis……….Jameis benching is a business decision. The organization(bad albeit) has decided that they are not going to give 21 mil. Jameis had his shot. He had his chance and blew it. Point blank. Jameis isn’t the reason the bucs are terrible……….but he is not the answer. The season is over. This team is going nowhere. They will win 4-7 games max this year. A new GM, New Coach, and Regime will come in and start over and we will suck for another 10 years. Why be forced to give Jameis 21 million if he gets hurt only to have the new regime decide that he is not the qb. This is a business decision and one that I agree with but I still think the owners are dumb. I would consider Ryan Griffin just to see what he has. The season is over and the team has already conceded. We may win the next two games( im not betting on it) but it is over. This regime is over and Jameis can go play in Jax or Denver next year where he will throw turnovers and make stupid decisions……….come to think of it he does fit this organization very well.

This is terribly overblown on so many levels beginning with, if the Bucs don’t want to pay him that cash, why haven’t they cut him or at least kept him inactive on gamedays.

Whatever quarterback they bring in next year if it is not Jameis will be paid right around $20 million. That’s the going rate for starting quarterbacks.

(Jameis’ salary is projected to be No. 18 next year, right above Nick Foles.)

  5. Lamarcus Says:

Dude. If JW gets hurt before that deadline you can still cut him. What part of the March deadline ppl don’t understand. If he gets hurt you can cut him the next day and move on

    Bucs are a F minus. Maybe E. No a Z if possible

  6. snookman Says:

Hes not the guy they want any more. Quite frankly hes a waste of time. Hes not good. Hes better than Fitz but he is not good. Yes they should make ihim inactive or cut him. Jameis had his chance. He was given every oppourtunity to succeed and has proven to be a bust. A BUST. You watch games and you see the same mistakes over and over again and again. Hes done. Fitz is garbage as well but he is just filling the position until the next coach comes in here. Oh and let me give you another reality…………Stats………….Stats are for losers(Reheem was right). Sunday was a prime example. Alex smith was smart and efficient, Fitz was aggressive and reckless. We put up the stat numbers………The redskins put up the TDs and most importantly a W. Jameis fools people with his Stats. You look at his box score and you see 375 yds 3 TDs and 1 Int and we lose 27-24. He doesn’t score TD(Neither does Fitz) when the game is tight and the defense is adjusting. This is a fact. Jameis had his shot, and failed. His stats look good but he is not a clutch QB and I have the game history to prove it. Mariota is proving to be clutch and that is what you need to win football games……..not some brainless idiot chucking the ball recklessly

  7. BucsFan33 Says:

    START JAMEIS

  8. snookman Says:

Besides lets face reality, and I was such a Jameis fan before Cincy, Jameis isn’t good enough to overcome his personal issues. He had a chance to make people forget about the allegations but playing good……….he failed. Joe how can you think a guy who has had 4 years to fix his mistakes is allt he sudden going to turn out into a stud QB. it is not going to happen. Jameis will end up like RG3, Josh Freeman, and……….well………….Ryan Fitzpatrick. He will be a Journey Man QB who will be a back up on many teams in the NFL. He’ll get another shot as a starter and make stupid mistakes and get benched. Some dumb organization, like the bucs, will give him a shot and he will fail like he failed here. BUST.

  9. Joe Says:

Mariota is proving to be clutch and that is what you need to win football games

Now wait a minute. Last year Jameis gave the Bucs the lead four different times in the fourth quarter. In a fifth game he won it on the last play of the game.

If that’s not clutch, Joe doesn’t know what clutch is.

Of course, Jameis’ problem is he doesn’t play DE, LB and CB.

  10. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Jameis has one of the greatest rookie seasons of any QB in NFL history year 1.

Year 2 all he does is improve his numbers and win 9 games.

Year 3 he gets hurt and plays rough through his injury except bills game. Then comes back and is one of the top 5 QBs in the league the final 5 games but an atrocious defense and no run game make it near impossible to win here.

Year 4 gets roped for something he did after year 1, pays the price and is executed in the court of public opinion.

Tries to follow up one of the luckiest/hottest 2-3 game stretch in NFL history and tries to do way too much.
He only got to play in 2 games!!! A 2 game tryout for a guy trending to be a franchise QB?
Our damn first year kicker had more leash than our franchise 1st overall QB?!

Wtf is with fans saying he has proven to be trash? What in 2 games?! The people who say he is garbage have never wanted him to succeed or has written him off because of off field issues.

Facts are facts and fact is Jameis is a mid level QB at age 24 with plenty of room to grow and was showing growth at the end of last year. This loser coach and loser GM need to get out now before they ruin any more of this embarrassing team.

  11. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

    3games?!*

  12. BucsFan33 Says:

Alaskan Abdominal Snowman – Exactly. Such a small sample size of games this year for Jameis to even get in a groove. Only makes sense to allow Jameis to play 4+ games consecutively before allowing critique.

  13. WeAreLost Says:

It doesn’t matter at this point. Sadly the giants are tanking only to give the fan base false hope(with a bucs win). I really liked Kotter but man….. Who will be the next GM?HC?QB? Exciting news for next year.

  14. Mike Says:

    Alaskan is right

  15. AfrikaThaRapper Says:

@Joe What do you think about Jack Del Rio?

  16. PriMech54 Says:

    Snookman

This dude literally just brought up a fictional Jameis statline for 375 3 td 1 int in a 27-24 loss… interesting… did you perhaps mean to reference our 30-27 loss vs Buffalo last year where Winston had 384 yds 3tds 1 int? Where he drove down the field for the lead with 3 minutes left and then Tyrod f%c^ing Taylor ripped our defense for 70 yards in 3 plays? Weird how you tried to create a statline and outcome that would make him look bad but forgot there was one just like yours that actually existed and we still lost in spite of how well he played. LOL! Weird how you guys completely ignore any sort of context to how a team can collectively lose a football game despite a quarterback playing well but strut like pigeons and cherry pick faults when it comes to your narrative “BUST. DONE. LOSER. NEVER SHOWN FLASHES EVER. ALWAYS BEEN GARBAGE.” That’s why you lose all credibility no matter your recency bias from the Cincy game. You’re not giving us any reality check get over yourself dude clearly you’re the one who can’t sniff just how deflated and absolutely inept this entire coaching staff and FO has been and ignore all the backwards decision making but still expect Jameis to put the leagues worst defense and kicking game in history on his back and be aaron rodgers before he hits 25 because he’s a number one pick. You’re delusional bro. Quarterbacks are a product of the situation they’re birthed into in the NFL and that will never change, and the Bucs are in contention for the most broken culture in the NFL. Get a real coach with some pedigree and let him get his hands on Jameis and this offense and watch what happens.

And the next time you mention Mariota as clutch while he leads his 29th ranked offense and rides his number 1 ranked elite defense, coming off a season where he threw more picks than touchdowns, we’d all like you to return your football card to the front desk.

  17. Defense Rules Says:

WeAreLost, I keep thinking the same thing … “It doesn’t matter at this point.” This team has cemented itself into the basement of the NFC South & it’s not climbing out. We don’t have the players, we don’t have the coaching, and most importantly, we don’t have the ‘want to’. You can see it in their play on the field and sense it in their interviews after the game: these players don’t believe they can win consistently.

SOMETHING will always go wrong. They lack what it takes to put together a solid 60 minutes of good old-fashioned disciplined football. There was an article in the Tampa Rag a couple days ago about how this team finds new & innovative ways to lose. FIRSTS nonetheless … inventing ways to lose that no team has ever managed to find before (such as scoring 3 points after gaining 500 plus yards?). If you’re a player on a team like that, how do you have any confidence in your on-the-field leaders? Or confidence in your coaches?

I’m convinced now that the Bucs hierarchy made a decision to tank the season weeks ago. We’d lost a BUNCH of players to injury & our backups obviously weren’t getting it done. There were players available in FA who could’ve come in & at least potentially helped us. But Licht didn’t make a single move, except to grab a couple of fill-ins off the scrap heap. With this Secondary & now this depleted LB corps, no way this defense can be competitive against decent teams. And with this OLine & our RBs, no way this offense can be expected to put up 30 or more PPG against even mediocre defenses. Jameis MIGHT play some this year, but I’m tending to think that the Bucs hierarchy has made up their mind on his future with the Bucs one way or the other. Welcome to tank mode.

  18. Waterboy Says:

The Glazers aren’t going to put Jameis back out there during this trainwreck of a season. They’ve seen him play under Koetter for 4 yrs already. They’ll give him a fresh start under a new coach and system after the season and see if they can salvage his career in Tampa before he’s due a contract extension.

  19. Pete I Says:

Did the defense really play a good game? Or is the Redskins a depleated weak offense. The Skins didn’t score many points when healthy. I think we are making too much of the score yesterday.

  20. Pete I Says:

Oh and yes Joe Winston is a major problem, not the only problem.

  21. VFL98 Says:

Deserve nothing better than an F.

  22. VFL98 Says:

Alaskan is dead on! Good Post!!!

  23. Dlavid Says:

    Water boy is right !

  24. Alanbucsfan Says:

Only thing I’d add to Waterboy post is if Bucs hire new YOUNG defensive minded head coach, I’d keep Monken as OC if he has good relationship with Jameis.

  25. Jarhead Says:

    Alaskan!!!! Great post homie

  26. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

The redskins are no measuring tool to gauge a team esp the bucs piss poor defense just look to how the falcons and their crappy defense embarrassed the skins last week in DC, the defense cannot hang its hat on a loss to a bad redskins team missing its entire starting OL

  27. TOM Says:

In spite of what a lot of people think, there are several good looking QB’s coming out in the 2019 draft. Herbert-Oregon, Lock- Missouri, Grier-WVa & Stidham-Auburn. Don’t sound any worse than the was that came out this year.

  28. 813bucboi Says:

    they deserve an F

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  29. Troy Says:

Herbert is staying at Oregon and going to the Giants if he did happen to leave school. Grier doesn’t have the arm strength to make the throws in the NFL. Stidham is a turnover machine like what we currently have. Lock is the only guy on your list that has potential and he’s been compared to everyone from Jay Cutler to Mahomes.

  30. Dapostman Says:

The Alaskan Snowman has hit the nail on the head.

I will add Winston is not where he needs to be YET. That doesn’t mean he won’t get there. He’s just not there YET. The dude is a grinder who gives 110% as a player. That is a fact. We have already seen Winston maturing since last season. The ball is already rolling. You can count on Winston getting there too. Hopefully it’s in Tampa.

  31. joestang Says:

how do you get a C- when you set a record in futility and lose to a team you should have beat by halftime. Cant see this team with anything than a F rating at best.

  32. Bucs 14 Says:

This team deserves a failing grade. They have quit. The O line does not complete plays. The D line is made off soft ice cream and velcro, except for JPP. The kicking game was atrocious. The play calling is highly predictable. Blow it up and start over at this point.

  33. Jimbo Says:

Alaskan’s post codifies the situation perfectly. Best summary/analysis ever seen on this blog.

  34. Knoxville Buc Fan Says:

F- < got that out of the way. So Buc Fans And Winston haters. What proven QB is gonna want to go to Tampa? I’m tired of hearing the offense is unstoppable, bullsh*t… look pretty stoppable since about week 4. No one with any talent will want to play for the Bucs. Griffin? He’s a Earnest Graham of the preseason. Old fakea$$ Fitz. Lol he sucked all you MF’S in. This has been some funny $hit, reading your takes for the last several months. Stupid lol. So y’all wanna kick a MF’N starting QB to the street? For who? Dammit wake up you stupid bandwagon Fitzteabaggers who have no football common sense…

  35. stpetebucsfan Says:

Why do we keep giving our targets a pass…I’ve not read about the effect…ME13’s dropped TD pass…or Brate’s drop near the goal line as being a major reason we lost.

Then there’s Jack’s fumble into the end zone. Just execute on those three plays and we win the contest.

Plenty of other challenges…a horrid snap from center…Fitz was inconsistent..what else is new.

Bassenger had a good column this morning. He brought up something I first noticed about two weeks ago while digging in career stats. JW and Fitz are the same player!!! Both can get on fire and do amazing things…both can run pretty well…both fire waaayyy too many picks…but if you match there career stats it’s eerie how close they are.

  36. Eric Says:

    What’s next a participation trophy?

  37. D1 Says:

    Winston is Finkel.
    Finkel is Fitzpatrick.

  38. Bucsfanman Says:

stpete- The offense failed the team. Forget about kicking for a moment. This team is allergic to TDs! It’s the strangest thing. We make everything look so difficult.

  39. Pickgrin Says:

Alaskan Abdominal Snowman’s post is on the money. (except for the “loser GM” part)

  40. RODNEY J ALLEN Says:

Yall talking about jw 20mil next year is a stupid reason to not play him Griffin wouldn’t get paid much less if he started for a team next year n hes never even played it’s the going rate for a starting qb now times have changed

  41. jmarkbuc Says:

Jameis was surrounded by a great team at FSU..National Champ Team… and yet the scouting report was still the same

Slow first half starts..indifference to ball security.. turnover prone.

Add to that his off the field transgressions and problems with his HC’s authority.

    How has he changed?

You don’t draft a guy #1 to be a “mid level QB” especially after 4 yrs….

  42. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

You mean after 3 years?.. 48/16=3…3 years.

  43. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Let me re-phrase

You don’t draft a QB #1 overall to be Mid Level after three years

  44. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Oh you mean like Mike Vick, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, Matt Stafford, Alex
Smith? Just to name a few recent ones. Nothing criminal about being average considering the alternatives we have had here. Check out history.
He is avg at 24. He will be in top 10 one day soon.

  45. Jmarkbuc Says:

If he were at least as “average ” as those you mention we might not be in the situation we’re in..

He’s clearly below even these “average ” players……
