Bucket List

November 29th, 2018

Among the best.

Yes, as we know, Bucs star wide receiver Mike Evans is one of the best receivers in the NFL.

For Mike Sando of BSPN, Evans is in the league’s second bucket of receivers.

Sando decided to look at 10 receivers who are on the first year of a new contract, which included Evans. Sando then broke down the list into four “buckets.” He has Evans in the second bucket, along with Odell Beckham.

Contract: five years and $82.5 million with $55 million guaranteed ($16.5 million APY)

Numbers so far: 62 catches, 1,073 yards, 5 TDs

16-game pace: 89 catches, 1,561 yards, 7 TDs

The Buccaneers, like the Giants, aren’t playing well enough to brag about this deal, but the team can feel good about keeping Evans for the long haul. Evans passed 1,000 yards receiving for the season Sunday and has a career-best 1,073 through 11 games.

Is he a game-plan consideration?

“In the red zone,” a defensive coach who faced Tampa Bay last season said. “He is a catching-radius guy, not a speed guy, and he is dealing with a quarterback situation in flux, and still producing.”

Evans ranks No. 1 by a wide margin among these 10 receivers in air yards per target (14.8), a reflection of Tampa Bay’s aggressive downfield passing attack. Evans also heads this list by a wide margin in percentage of receptions made after aligning wide instead of in the slot (90.3 percent), a reflection of his reliance on size, not shiftiness. He’s tied with Cooks for second behind Beckham in receptions gaining more than 15 yards. He is first among these 10 in number of third-down catches for first downs.

Joe understands Bucs fans are griping about the drafting of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht. That’s understandable when the team has but one winning year in five seasons.

But with Evans there is no debate about what Licht did. Pretty soon we’re going to have to start wondering if Evans is Hall of Fame worthy. Licht absolutely hit it out of the park drafting Evans.

Evans is by far our best player. And my favorite WR we’ve ever had

  2. Lamarcus Says:

Me13 is not elite. A very good receiver and one of my fav but no way he is elite. Elite receivers know to overcome better competition like when Patrick Peterson and Xavier Rhodes or that Bradberry guy. He most likely gets shut down by them.

    Maybe next year.

imagine having an HC that not only knows defenses but knows how opposing offenses will try to attack his defense…..

imagine having an HC that puts his players in postion to win….

imagine having an HC that preaches technique and attention to detail…..

imagine having an HC that can get his defense to produce…..

imagine having a HC that has a defense that is aggressive and physical…..

    imagine JPP under KRIS RICHARD!!!!!

  4. Doctor_berto Says:

Still could have had Aaron Donald…

  5. Lamarcus Says:

    Agree with Doctor berto

  6. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Love having evans BUT at the time like berto said the NFL was in a defense wins championship mode and that is not the case now so licht lucked out, but the dummy licht went full circle dumb by drafting vea in a pass happy league when derwin available…fire jason licht now

  7. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

For those of us without BSPN paywall access, who were the other 10 receivers?

  8. Robert Says:

    5 years. 25 million
    10 million gauranteed

  9. DK Says:

He could have hit a couple more out of the park too. this draft alone- Derwin is going to win defensive rookie of the year most likely.. I use to be all in on Jason Licht when he drafted his 4 horseman. Winston, Smith, Ali and kwon. But since then it’s been crickets. He passes on good value FAs often and signs the overpriced bums.. moves up for the wrong players, moves back for the wrong players.

    why you blocking me?

Kris Richard has only been with the Cowboys for a few months.

That makes his influence all the more impressive.

Richard approaches his job with an evangelical fervor that’s impossible to ignore. Whether he’s lacing up his cleats to run with the players or making an introductory speech to the team that ends in applause, he makes an impression.

Players gravitate toward the Cowboys’ defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator. His charisma is intoxicating.

There’s a presence to Richard that should accelerate his drive to become a head coach, a status linebacker Sean Lee is convinced Richard will hold one day. But there’s more to the 39-year-old coach than an overdeveloped case of zeal.

Lee considers Richard to be an unbelievable coach and resource. Safety Kavon Frazier marvels at his ability to tell the players exactly what to expect once the game is underway. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli calls his co-worker a great technician and as good as any defensive coach he’s been around.

“I think the guy’s brilliant,” Marinelli said.

  12. Eric Says:

Licht has fielded the best offense in bucs history, can’t take that away from him.

But not much winning. Can’t not blame him for a lot of that.

Interestingly, Cam Newton commented today that he is having his best season, yet is frustrated his team hasn’t won more games.

Egad, its more than the QB. Or a great receiver like Evans.

  13. Bucsfanman Says:

Lamarcus- Even the greats have bad days. Jerry Rice dropped a pass once or twice I’m sure.
5 straight 1,000 yard seasons tell me that he doesn’t get shut down often. I’ll reserve judgement on his “elite” status until his career is over.
I’d still take him all day long over that fruitcake OBJ!

  14. go for the face30 Says:

I follow both Djax and Mike Evans on IG, and for whatever its worth – Mike is much more unassuming, down to earth. Half his stuff are about his little girl. Djax comes with the narcissistic “motivation quote” posts, videos in strip clubs, and flossin with the gold chains and shi. Who am I to judge so its whatever – but Mike just comes off as a legit good dude, and humble.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    @joe

be sure to watch the saints vs dallas game tonight…..you’ll see why i want Kris Richard….

  16. Jean Lafitte Says:

He is unquestionably one of our captains. He hasn’t been any trouble at all. No diva in Mike. A true locker room leader

  17. Tony LA Says:

    Doctor Berto…

What a horrible way to go through life.
Do you really think A. Donald would have been as good HERE??

    Come on, man!!!

  18. AlteredEgo Says:

    and Joe wanted Johnny…

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    ME13 & OJ80 are absolute winners…..there are others who may be…..

    Ali Marpet, D. Smith, Kwon,

He has some pretty big winners in UDFAs……Hump, Brate, Barber.

  20. Tampa Bay Demon Says:

    Wow, NO DOUBT, @Tony LA.

No offense, @Doctor Berto… but let it GO.

EVANS has been one of our best players in many years.

  21. Duthsty Rhothdes Says:

Dr. Berto is right though drafting 1st round WRs doesnt give you jack squat unless the team is already going to make the next step…mike is great for this team and town, but licht has no clue how to build a consistent winning organization…saints build their team through the trenches and defense…licht drafts kickers in rd 2 and passes on stud RBs and OL/DL

  22. SOEbuc Says:

Not elite? Making a list of only A.J. Green (5) and Randy Moss (6) for 1,000+ yards for five years straight out of rookie year sounds pretty f#cking elite to me. And could easily tie Moss and pass him on the list unless major injury occurs.

  23. AlteredEgo Says:

If he was hit in stride with a properly placed and delivered ball he’d be elite….I pray he doesn’t go down and out like Dilfer did to Horace Copeland

  24. Dewey Selmon Says:

Starting to think bucboi is Kris Richards agent.

  25. 813bucboi Says:

    dewey

nawl….just a bucs fan that wants to win….

watch how the cowboys defense especially the DB’s perform tonight…..

    KRIS RICHARD 4 HC!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  26. Realbucfan941 Says:

    Lamarcus,

Dumb statement. Evans has done fine against Bradbury in the past. And look what our rookie did to the so called Ellie receivers we faced in AB and Beckham. His TD in NY shows he has speed and he’s abused Sherman and other good corners. If Winston stops throwing it so high or leading him out of bounds like last game he would be even more productive. Name your elite receivers that go over 100 yards every game….

  27. jmarkbuc Says:

    813

Why would we sign a position coach to be a HC?

Done that…Raheem. Now if he was qualified to be a DC, then by all means let’s sign him for that….

  28. Pic Jordan Says:

“But with Evans there is no debate about what Licht did. Pretty soon we’re going to have to start wondering if Evans is Hall of Fame worthy. Licht absolutely hit it out of the park drafting Evans.”.

And which “Joe” was drooling and praying for Johnny Manziel?

  29. aceinthehole Says:

And if Brees burns the Dallas D for 45 points or more will you stop with this nonsense?

  30. 813bucboi Says:

    jmark

he’s more than a position coach….he calls the plays for the defense and is the passing game coordinator…..basically the DC…..something we need….

and that last position coach was the last coach to win 10games in tampa…..we dont need another recycled HC that has failed before…..

  33. rrsrq Says:

Licht could not have messed that up if he tried. This team had NO wide receivers the year ME was in the draft. Everyone mocked him to the Bucs and everybody knew we needed him. The only way he could’ve messed up by not picking ME is if he would’ve drafted OBJ, so he couldn’t mess this up

  34. Anonymous Says:

Imagine if mike had a elite qb????
    Wow

  35. Doctor_berto Says:

You guys can disagree with me all you want but I know a lot of the Bucs faithful wanted Donald with that pick. Evans is a good consolation prize as he’s probably the second most talented player on the Bucs right now next to OJ.

  36. joestang Says:

You keep defending Licht. The evans pick was a no brainer, he was the best available. Licht has showed time and time again that he is very inconsistent with drafting. Licht has had to many misses for me, he needs to GO.
